[Guide] Get out of jail, stay out of jail. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Ok, so far I am still a free man and my probation has not been revoked. A huge thanks to @BlackMesa123 for apparently figuring this mess out. Here is the link to his original post. ALL CREDIT GOES TO HIM! https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75360965&postcount=22 .
Ive been running for 3+ days now, multiple reboots including into TWRP to flash zips files, over the course of all days, and I've not gotten the dreaded binary error as I have in the past. Here's what I did and the details on my phone. To be clear this method should work on any ROM, I did the write up with IronMan simply because that is what I used. @dr.ketan excellent ROM has now been updated to include a similar fix so you are safe with his ROM, no need to go through these steps. Hopefully this will work for everyone else too. This write up is quick so look at the original thread for more info. Let me know if there are any questions.
-Put Ironman Rom, dmverity zip, and Build.Prop editor apk on sd card. I believe this will work with any ROM but I am using IronMan so I want to be specific.
-Waited on my parole hearing (168 hours)
-Removed SIM
-Installed TWRP through Odin
-Formatted data through TWRP
-Flashed dmverity file
-Flashed Ironman, did not update bootloader or recovery through Aroma. I did select the CSC that matched my original, thereby switching me from Germany to Taiwan.
-Did not reboot after flash
-Mounted system through twrp and removed RIc app per instructions on linked post
-Booted phone
-Skipped setup and did not log in to anything, did not connect to WiFi or any other data.
-Installed Build.prop app and edited Build.prop according to linked post
- Rebooted
- After reboot I powered down phone and inserted SIM
-Rebooted and logged into my Google account, and operated as normal
Have rebooted multiple times and at random periods just to see if I would go back to jail. So far so good.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the zip file in the original link does remove the RIL app but it does not edit the Build.prop, you have to manually edit it.

The app to delete you talking about calls Rlc, not RIL

Well if you read what it says, yes you remove thw sim and it's most likely before rebooting into bootloader to flash twrp.

I don't know for sure if it is required to remove the SIM or not. I did and that worked for me. I removed before going into download mode to Odin flash TWRP.

i tried it out with the same rom and everything but i used the oem issue patch( which has the whole process in a patch) from Dr.Ketan Rom instead of having to remove the app and change build prop

Good, it should work with any ROM but that is good to have confirmation. Looks like the good Dr has updated his ROM with this mod already baked in so there is no need to manually make the changes.

[DOWNLOAD] Android Wear update MEC23G to MWD48B

Just got an update on my watch and, as always, pulled the update.zip for you guys!
If you're having troubles installing this ZIP please refer to this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67403296&postcount=19
----------
Quick Install "Guide" if it's still failing for you:
1) Install TWRP from THIS THREAD HERE
2) Reboot into fastboot mode by turning the watch off and on again and while the black screen shows up constantly swipe from the left upper corner to the lower right corner.
3) Flash the TWRP provided above and reboot into recovery, then push the unpacked TWRP backup into "/sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxxxxxxx/" (to get the last folder simply make a backup of only your boot partition first, it's the fastest)
4) Restore the backup provided IN THIS POST HERE onto your watch via the in 1 flashed TWRP
1) MUCH EASIER: Flash these instead the TWRP way, far far easier!
2) Let the OTA update install automatically

I've got TWRP 3.0.?? on the watch and it refuses to flash, error is
Code:
Unable to statfs '/system/.'.
I've flashed the stock recovery in LG G Watch tools. It went fine, so I've proceeded to install the update the standard way. It seemed to be fine, but than it stopped, with the "Dead Android" image. After using the reset button the built in recovery is dead, but the watch boots. Any ideas?
EDIT: TWRP won't mount /system for some reason, you tap the checkbox and nothing happens. Not even as RO.

yeah it can't write to it, you have to use the stock recovery for that. You are able to write to it but you must first format the partition as writable and then flash your system image/ backup. I'm getting the usual "old keys" error of TWRP not error you mentioned, just means The TWRP is too old base

We could try flashing an older version of Android Wear (the one provided with the one Toolbox someone made here) and let it update to the latest version again.

Nope I found it thank god. I had kept a backup of the awful stock kernel just in case when I was initially testing invisiblek's kernel. Luckily its still there in all its awful glory and I will share it here as when you boot up with the stock kernel the system auto flashes the stock recovery because thats how stock is for everything

Btw. I tried going back to stock yesterday (without locking the bootloader tho) but I may have used a wrong or too old stock recovery version.
Also the only reason why the OTA is reporting an issue while flashing the package with the squashfs enabled TWRP is because the script gets a string back that's not identical with the one it expects. Maybe someone could "hack out" that check and make it TWRP flashable.

No the problem is the TWRP was built on an old base of the LG G watch specifically the last 5.1.1 update so the zip thinks the whole system is still on 5.1.1 as TWRP is still on that. I don't think the 6.0.1 source has been released yet so I don't think a recovery could be built with a 6.0.1 base of the lg g watch.

That's exactly what I mean with the check and the "wrong" string it gets back I have no clue on how to disable this check inside the ZIP-script tho.

I actually think there are more than 1 cores activate at a time now, the watch has gotten pretty fast with the latest updates and so on, I don't even feel the need for a custom kernel anymore since that.

Nope after about 1 minute after boot the phone locks to 787mhz with userspace governor and I can confirm there is no CPU hotplug aswell. I don't know how you survive with the abysmal lag but ok cool. During the first minute of boot for whatever reason it uses 2 cores and ondemand, would rather have that always lol.

Tried, didn't work. My guess is that it didn't handle squash FS. I was left with dead Android guy on the screen
For everyone to enjoy HERE is the stock kernel, @EpicLPer add this to the op to save everyone some trouble. NOTE: you have to boot to system once before the stock recovery is restored. Also it is a twrp backup so you have to adb push it to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/ to use it. If someone could just get the boot.img raw that would be great, I was too lazy to do it lel.

Actually... mine's running pretty well, no lag, no freezing animations, apps take 1 second to open and scrolling is smooth too.
Either I have some leftovers of an old kernel (which I don't think, or, hope) or I'm having a magic LG Watch

DualBoot Patcher now for our H918 V20!

Dual boot Patcher now works with our v20 I can confirm it works with the h918 but I cannot confirm it works with any of the others but as they are the same Hardware I cannot see why not.
I take no credit for this mod as all I did was send the original developer the necessary files to get it working on our phones, so go give @chenxiaolong a thanks and go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534&page=1083
To download the latest snapshot and DualBoot utilities to easily managed between the two or three or however many you get.
This will really come in handy once we get Aosp up and running for our devices! Set alarm just putting this here in case anyone is interested.

Thanks for sharing! Works great! Just flashed CM as secondary
Be warned, I used this with NATFs ROM as a primary and CM as secondary and I got locked out of my phone when going back to NATFs ROM. Pattern lock said it was wrong pattern. So be careful and disable lockscreen and fingerprints before doing this. There are still some bugs floating around.
But nice job and great progress for our phones!!!

Edit: I figured it out. If I flash it in twrp root sticks.

For future reference for anyone with root sticking problems.. Just patche the SuperSU. Zip for dual or multi whatever you are going to use then flash it either in app or recovery and when you are booted into your secondary Rom make sure to set kernel accordingly

If you do run into this, delete all `lockscreen.db*` files in `/data/system/`.
Yes, it is good etiquette to remove lock screen patterns and fingerprints before installing a new ROM in any of your slots as it will not let you in when you go back to the other
I was having issues with this on my ls997. I was running teamdev ROM with werewolf kernel set as primary. I patched resurrection remix for secondary and tried to flash through app and got an error. Unfortunately this dual boot Patcher is setup for the h918.
So what you were going to have to do to get it working is extract the entire Resurrection ROM folder and open the updater script and remove the get prop lines and then save the file and rezip then patch and Flash after that all should be well

N950U, so kinda but no, not really. If you set your CSC to A then yah, if not it has carrier bloat.

I'm already on sprints latest. That ok or do I need to downgrade before doing update.zip in recovery? Any mirrors for U2CQL1? Every time I try to download, it fails

I seriously just got to about 750 mb downloaded of the file and it just stops and starts over. Can't get it downloaded? What the heck lol
I was at 12 percent and the same thing happened to me lol. I'll just wait for the mirror.
Somehow, after 4 attempts at downloading, it worked and only took ~5 mins. everything appears to be in the zip file. I loaded the BK2 file (never got cell signal, and had a lot of strange things in settings) and am applying the update now. Hopefully this doesn't screw up anything. with the BK2 my settings showed custom for the status though, so not sure if I just screwed myself out of Knox stuff.
---------- Post added at 10:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:35 PM ----------
Looks like it's working, some things I noted:
I had a few strange apps in my service folder (BoA and some games)
Samsung connect was causing a bunch of force closures.
Even though I was on unlocked before this, I ended up on Verizon (my carrier).
Everything else seems normal, and had I done a wipe I'd probably be in even better shape. Might to a whole tomorrow.

Don't need odin for this, it's an OTA.
Just put it on your phone, and go to recovery mode and flash from update.zip or whatever.

Also got your pm but nothing was in there lol

Its been doing that. Said i was gonna try it sometime this weekend. Been having weird no signal issues i believe is related a baseband issue if i reboot be3n taking upto 5 min to get signal. I did a lot of blind tweaks after my last weeks reset and thinking i did something wrong
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ----------
Um i know we dont really talk about telegram much any more but i got a semi private group with a few well known fellars but if any of you where to join you could probably ask cyborg or a few others for tips. It can be off topic a lot. And be quiet but the idea i had was to pretty much gather up as many devs and legit sources on unlocking and other mobile related services and have a big collaboration group. We all talk dev related everynow and then
But if any of you want to join your more than welcome

Yeah, I've had some issues as well with Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth not keeping its settings, never happened on V2 bootloader, not a deal breaker for me more of an annoyance than anything. Let me know what you think of that mod pack when you get a chance its pretty cool:good::highfive::good:

So thats a xposed issue. There is a fix by modding a couple files somewhere. Since i dont run xposed i havnt faced it. I run a stock rooted that i tweak on my own. I havnt used cyborgs rom in a while due too a feww needed, debloated features. One was being bluetooth losing parings... I swapped over to this right before the fix was found and havnt bothered to try it but others said it works great. Me and several others came across the fix on xposed github. But since then its been posted a few places including some page on cyborgs many

Strange as I don't have exposed hell I might have the framework there but not the installer app I'll have to take a peak.
So yeah no xposed in my framework folder.
Also forgot to mention this is my personal BRB1 build deodexed with root
you need to post better noob friendly instructions on how to do this. got my phone to safestrap and did everything your instructions say once i pass step 8 and reboot phone just stays on a black screen and a blue light at the top left of the device stays on, also when i plug the device into the computer i can hear it connect.

i'm on stock ROM here's my build number G950USQU5CRK1. bootloader v5

[ROM][G986U1]SamPWND.R3.v1 1ZTJA

Hello!
Please forgive me as it's been a long time since I made/posted a stock based ROM as I have been mainly doing security research and dealing more with source code last few years.
Most seasoned Samsung users on here probably already know me and work that I have done so I won't waste time posting any "about me" stuff.
DISCLAIMER:
This ROM is still WIP (although fully functional) and based on Android R Beta 1ZTJA for G986U/U1/W. An unlocked BL is required to flash this ROM!
Features:
- Based on Stock R Beta 3 Build aka 1ZTJA.
- This is a full ODIN flashable tar (got tired of messing with update zips.)
- Disabled vbmeta
- Pretty heavily debloated
- Deknoxed
- Removed pesky recovery-from-boot.p which could cause boot loops.
- Currently only has SPR csc mods (will mod others in next build)
*Native call recording
*App Lock (forgot to push the app though so will fix in next build)
*Few others.. will post more specifics and give creds since I used the csc mod for exynos as a basis..
- Probably forgetting something but thhis is an initial build so will add more as time goes..
Instructions:
Note: The zip contains an instructions.txt that is more detailed.
Note 2: Zip contains the full firmware tar file which includes everything to be fully updated/on ztja. This means all bl files, modem, boot, recovery, super etc. so you can start from and build. Zip also contains files and instructions on how to obtain root.
- Backup your data if you must since this will wipe device!
- Put phone in dl mode and extract zip to pc somewhere.
- Open ODIN (INCLUDED IN ZIP) and in AP slot navigate to SamPWND.R3.v1-G986U1.tar and flash it.
- Device will reboot into stock ZTJA recovery where you will wipe data and reboot.
- Set up device and win?
Root Steps (optional):
Note: Since theres no sources for R yet theres no custom recovery. Also, Q based recovery will not work on R bootloaders as well as R there is no more /sbin so root needs to be flashed at this time.
- After you have flashed rom and everything is set up reboot back into DL mode.
- Open included ODIN and in AP slot navigate to the 1BTIF_BL_Files_and_LOS_Recovery.tar. Make sure auto reboot is NOT selected. Flash it.
- Once thats flashed hold vol down and power until screen turns off then immediately hold vol up and power until LOS recovery loads.
- However you want to flash magisk (I included Magisk.v21.0.zip) flash it.
* I do adb push magisk.zip /... Then select Install Update then install from root and select magisk zip...
- Reboot back into DL mode.
- In ODIn, select AP slot then navigate to 1ZTJA_BL_Files_and_1ZTJA_Stock_Recovery.tar and flash it.
- Device will boot back into ROM and you will now be rooted!
***TWRP RECOVERY***
- Download listed below
- I suggest you follow all the steps above and make sure it's up and running before installing TWRP.
- Basically extract the .tar from the .gz archive and flash in ODIN!
- adb works
- file manager and other tools work
- If follow above steps first as recommended, data will be decrypted.
- mounts work
- flashing works
- backup/restore works
- no issues found so far?
Steps are really quite simple if you have ever used ODIN.
It took a bit to put this together since all we have are update zips so I had to do a bit of trickery as well as had to build some binaries/tools to manually patch from 1BTIF to 1ZTJ3 to 1ZTJA to be able to have all the firmware images.
I will create a Telegram ROM support group soon where you can ask all the questions you want there (I am not at liberty to discuss unlocking bootloader on XDA so questions about this on here will either be ignored or will say I cant discuss. More info as to why will be posted in the support group or you can read the imcluded instructions.txt wink.wink).
ENJOY!
Shout Outs:
@topjohnwu for Magisk of course
@jesec for LOS Recovery
@afaneh92 base TWRP
@Mentalmuso for direction on how to get TWRP to work on R!
More shout outs coming soon!

Thanks, that will be a big help getting me back into building roms again. I haven't had the time at all lately except for some minor phone stuff plus I'm waiting for computer parts to come in and put together a 10th gen Intel system. Then I can get started again.

That being said, how do we get this going for the 988U1? I have root working for R on the 988U1. Although attempting to boot into stock recovery on ZTJA sends it into a boot loop still working on that.

i have toake rom for g988u/u1..
and thats bcuz it needs to pull recovery from boot which it xan only do on stock boot.img
Just flashed this last night, seems to be running beautifully, no issues so far, battery is looking good. Removed a dozen more useless apps, root is working great.
Running on a G986W with a Canadian Sim, everything seems to be working fine with my carrier (WiFi calling, LTE+...)
Thanks brother! Keep up the good work
