About installation TWRP on A6020a41 - Lenovo Vibe K5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am trying to install twrp to my a6020a41 device.
i can not flash twrp with fastboot commands. It says bootloader is locked.
I tried to install twrp with bypass method in this forum. But qfil gives "sahara" error while flashing.
I can install A6020a40_S007_161128_ROW_QPST_HW39_indian_S616.7z with qfil to my device.
After that i can install twrp with fastboot commands.
But after i flash A6020a40_S007_161128_ROW_QPST_HW39_indian_S616.7z i lost my GSM network. imei still here, i can connect wifi networks too but gsm not working.
I think it is because of baseband difference.
After that i can return device's own stock rom Lenovo_A6020a41_S005_Q1021101_20161017.zip by qfil flashing.
So any idea, how can i flash twrp with gsm network
@electric.droid @Phatal7 @Shreps

So there is no answer, i have one more idea.
Can i export Lenovo_A6020a41_S005_Q1021101_20161017 firmware's baseband or modem and flash it on over other rom? it may solve the problem.

if you have a sahara error then you have issues with drivers. reinstall them and dont forget to disable driver signature enforcement.
what is your SoC, is it SD415 or SD616?
if you are flashing 616 firmware on a 415 phone then obviously gsm wont work. but then i suggest installing custom roms like AEX 4.6 by @Harry8242, that may solve gsm issue.
so your choises are: 1. fix driver issues and try again, 2. flash a custom rom on top of sd616 f/w and 3. stay on stock lollipop
hope that you can enjoy the beauty of custom roms like i do!
PS: post in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-k5/how-to/tutorial-installing-twrp-lenovo-k5-a41-t3742276 to make my life easier

thank you. you wanted to answer in this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-k5/how-to/tutorial-installing-twrp-lenovo-k5-a41-t3742276
so i did it.

Oem Unlocking aka Unlocking bootloader

problem with unlocking and flashing

Hi my friends.
this is my story :
my phone is Redmi note 3 pro (qualqomm)
I got permissions for unlocking a week ago.
then i tried xiaomi website unlock method but it stopped at 50% and gave me couldn't verify device (different account) error.
my rom is global (MIUI 8) . then i tried to flash dev rom with updater app but it gave me couldn't verify update package error. i cleared updater data and tried again but same error.
in next step i tried mi pc suite to flash but no success.
then i used fastboot mode and mi flash and i got locked bootloader error.
then i used EDL mode to flash but in mi flash i got hello package error. (object reference not set to an instance of an object)
i completely confused . i tried all methods and read many fix like login in i.mi.com and other method that people fixed their problem but all of them not fix mine.
i read some threads about flashing twrp and root without unlocking bootloader but all of them need flashing dev rom and i can't flash.
can anyone help me?

I just recently went through most of what you have gone through... Be patient though... It seems that the unlocking of bootloader even after you getting permission, takes atleast 2-3 weeks more.
- You can flash the miui global dev rom, you may download it from the miui forums... Here is the link for the fastboot rom http://en.miui.com/a-234.html.
- To flash the dev rom, you need to ensure you put your phone into fastboot, ensure all the fastboot drivers are installed on your computer
- Also, you need to ensure that you download the GLOBAL/DEV FASTBOOT ROM(this is different than the regular zip package) that you download.
- Then you can follow the instructions to install the ROM using miflash tool
- If the ROM installation is a success, then you just need to wait patiently atleast for 15-20 days from the time you got unlock permission sms from MI
- Then try running the flash unlock tool, it should get unlocked.
- Now flashing TWRP might be tricky, I was able to flash the official TWRP, but had issues where the internal memory wasn't getting mounted, because you keep getting asked for decryption password in TWRP to mount the data, no matter what you enter, it might not work
- After trying many TWRP types, the one that worked was "zcx twrp"
- Once you flash that, you should be able to flash any custom or miui roms you need :good:

You don't need an unlocked BL to flash official fast boot miui ROMs

You may try the steps on this link http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
Skip the EDL thing and go directly to the part where they explain how to use the miflash tool to flash a fastboot ROM
I should have asked this first... what's the state of your phone right now? Does it boot, stuck on boot loop, or are you able to boot into some ROM.
maybe u have a vendors rom, flash the fastboot rom using edl
finally a downloaded adb 1.4.3 and installed it and i flashed dev rom in EDL mode.
but now i have some questions:
can i change kernel with locked bootloader?
if i change kernel does fingerprint work?
You just dont have proper drivers installed im 100% sure, else it would go via edl
Hehe was right
And why dont you ask for official unlock approval? Its approved in less than a day, anyone saying otherwise have old news
Or you can always use a method in this forum...

Nokia 1 TA-1056 ROM issue

Hello everyone, after a long attempt at unlocking the bootloader i finally got it, i flashed TWRP and got a prompt for encryption password, and my password wasn't working and i also tried default_password,so i read that the format data option will decrypt the phone and people said wouldn't do anything to system, so i did it and now everytime i reboot it boots straight into recovery no matter what i try, it will also boot into fastboot, so i tried to find a stock ROM for TA-1056 but couldn't find it anywhere, the only the i found was a single ROM for the TA-1060, can anyone help? i really appreciate it!
Completely Bricked
Me too need a stock rom of ta 1056. Please help if you could manage to provide a helping hand... ?
I had the same issue like yours, looping in twrp. then i tried to flash it with a so called stock rom from net, guess what it went completely bricked and I donnow what to do. ??

It's simple. just get the stock recovery (and boot, optional) to flash it with fastboot and go to recovery and wipe it and you'll be ok.
and also using the twrp on this phone is not a great idea to wipe.
if you wanna wipe. please use "fastboot -w" to wipe the phone while bootloader is unlocked. or stock recovery to wipe.
Because twrp built this recovery with only formatting option was ext4 to /data and /cache. So the phone cannot operate properly. Which leads to fake failed decryption notification.
Data partition must need to be formatted under f2fs format.
And finding rom for this phone is pretty easy. Just find some nb0 file for this phone (any variant of this phone should work) and extract it with "nb0 extractor" and then flash it with SP Flash tool by mediatek.
That's my way. I don't know how will you do. But normally you only need the nb0 file and then flash it with OST LA (Nokia's flash tool based off Intel's SUT L1/L3 tool).
My Nokia 1 TA-1047 stuck at Nokia logo screen
Hi guys, sorry I'm newbie so after a long time surfing for solutions, I couldn't solve my own problem. That's why I come here to ask for your supports
Firstly I unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP and rooted my device and enjoyed it. But after decided to wipe (factory reset) this phone with TWRP, and my problem began...
1. I got stuck in TWRP loop booting. After that I tried to fastboot system.bin, cache.bin and recovery.bin from Stock Firmware but it still hung at Nokia logo booting
2. I still kept trying with SP Flash Tool, Miracle Box but there was still no hope:
- SP Flashtool v5_1548 gave me error: BROM ERROR: S_BROM_CMD_STARTCMD_FAIL (2005)
- Miracle Box 2.27A told me there was an error (i don't remember the code) occured in the location (i can't remember its code either)...
Anyone can solve it please help!!!! I love this phone much and as of now still suffering day by day since I can't do anything with it.
Kindly appreciate any suggestion and solution.
Thank you all!

So here's the thing. The rom you downloaded from internet (about 2 GB) or ripped from your phone and reflashing from flash tool will NOT WORK.
The first reason you can't flash the ROM was:
You got into flashing mode but you didn't do the right way so it failed the downloading DA for the phone. Try again and it should work (Don't go into fastboot mode)
2nd reason:
Because of the unsupported chip that MiracleBox read. It said the phone was 6573 or something while the phone chip is 6737M.
So the app will create the wrong version of the scatter for the phone. Leads to the flash tool app downloading the wrong command and Download Agent for the phone makes the phone can't be flashed.
You need to get the official nb0 file for this phone (TA-1060 or 66 should also works, mine was TA-1047. Since it's a universal ROM so any variant of the phone can also work) and then extract the ROM. Then you can get the scatter text file from that nb0 ROM and then flash it over flash tool (version 5 recommended, version 3 more likely not work).
Remember to look at line with partition "metadata" and then edit "boundary_check" to false.
PLUS:
If you flash it with your own dumped EMMC rom or flash it by dd-ing the partition in recovery will kinda work. But when you update the ROM over OTA (Google Play services's System Update app)
It will most likely bootlooped the phone when it's trying to verify the 2nd partition of the same recovery or kernel flashed into the phone (https://source.android.com/security/verifiedboot) and flash the updated one.)
So flashing from official ROM is mandatory.
And you can flash it over Intel's (Nokia modified) flash tool app SUTL3 (aka. OST LA) but I can't get it to work so you just stick with Flash Tool v5 from MediaTek and you'll be good.

(Source: https://romprovider.com/2018/09/nokia-1-ta-1060-firmware/)
nb0 extractor, requires java installed (If extracting hurts your hard disk performance aka. frozen or lag. Don't worry, It actually works, DON'T DO ANYTHING. It will notify you once it's done.): https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/tool-unpack-repack-nb0-rom-t3495091
Smart Phone Flash Tool from MediaTek: https://spflashtools.com/
My fixed scatter file that actually works from nb0 file: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gRoADGHBm4vIAw3NeDyc_h9QWj12XUrC
And don't use twrp for wiping the phone. Use "fastboot -w" to wipe or use stock recovery.
TWRP will wipe the data parition but in ext4 format and make the phone bootlooped. We need f2fs in order to make the phone's /data partition run correctly. (Unless you know how to make the phone not having encryption flag when booting up every first time. Or modify TWRP to wipe the /data partition with make_f2fs and not make_ext4 app. Or using make_f2fs in recovery to directly wipe /data partition over terminal, the actual partition is in /dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name/userdata.)
Or you just do this (I'm not tested it yet): Google "twrp f2fs format"

Thanks for your comment. I have recently bought that version (TA-1047) and I see that is more complicated to root it securely than I thought… Your comment gave me hope to try it. So, could you please say me if it is posible to do it without breaking it? I will read your comment when I have more time but I thank you for it!
As I see there is only stock rom for TA-1060 version, but as you say it is posible to recover it in case of breaking it, isn't it?
Thanks. :fingers-crossed:

It's really easy to root the phone actually. Just unlock bootloader, install twrp recovery and install magisk.
And if you broke the phone's ROM. Just bring it to Nokia. Or flash it by yourself with the ROM I linked above by SP Flash Tool software.
Anyway the ROM is universal. So any variant of the phone can be flashed. (Proves that the elabel partition has 5 certifications images for 5 different models)
Just take sometime and read my words there.

Many thanks! At the moment I achieved to root it with twrp. OEM unlock > installed twrp > fastboot -w > magisk.
At the moment all is okey but I have not been able to unencrypt DATA partition (I have done fastboot -w, but with no success, I have not tried TWRP format because of your advice). That's the only point I can complain about.
I hope I do not have to use the stock rom to unbrick, but I have your advice if I do.
Thanks again!

That's weird. If you unlocked the bootloader and install adb/fastboot (must be latest version. Older version will not recognize the phone, download platform-tools from google dev site, don't download adb tools off XDA) + Nokia's driver from emulated CD drive (every time you plug the phone to computer with official rom, you'll see it) properly then it should be able to work.
You need to check the fastboot device driver Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and see if the driver is properly installed yet.
You can only use "fastboot -w" once the bootloader is unlocked. And booting up the phone. It will say the bootloader is in Orange state.
You need to unlock oem bootloader from developer settings when the stock rom is there. And in fastboot too
Here is how you unlock it:
Enable oem unlock from dev settings
Then reboot to fastboot mode (bootloader)
Do this:
"fastboot oem key "serial number string converted to md5, not imei strings" "
"fastboot oem unlock"
Volume up
Then you are actually unlocked the bootloader.
Unlock from developer settings only will not do the trick. It only allows you to have ability unlock the bootloader in fastboot.
If you stuck on the Encryption unsuccessful screen. Try wipe it with stock recovery or "fastboot -w" (if you properly unlocked the bootloader)
If you think you can't do anything anymore. Just flash the ROM provided you above.
If you need the extracted ROM for SP flash tool and the fastboot driver. I can link it to you.
Most of all drivers will automatically install off Windows Update if you're on Windows 10 (except the fastboot driver, and yes. SP flash tool drivers are also provided by Windows 10 too)
Also. You should update the phone to the latest software update when flashing stock rom too. Because newer builds for this phone is compatible-friendly with GSI rom (Treble ROMs like AOSP Android 9 or 8.1 by phhusson)
Updates on Android 9/10

Nokia might harden the security of the device so you can't use Magisk on stock rom.

moto e XT1524 to LineageOS 17.1

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place but I could not find anywhere to post it by following Help threads I just went round and round in circles. Hi I am fairly new to phone modding. I updated my moto e XT1524 to LineageOS 16.1 some months ago. Yesterday I decided to update to 17.1. I followed the instruction to install. I have wiped phone and ran fastboot adb as instructed. I keep gettting -This packeage is for XT1514,XT1524,XT1526......... ect and error7. I have ammended the updater-script as detailed in the "How to fix error 7 " document but the rom will still not load. same error message. I have now noticed that * Required * firmware version must be based on Marshmallow on the Installation section on the main forum page. Can someone help me get the phone back to stock rom or any other rom for that matter. I can get the phone into recovery mode and I have TWRP installed i aslo have SDK tools installed on PC.
@rddxda
TWRP can't be used to flash Stock ROMs. In your case you need QFIL ( read: Qualcomm Flash Image Loader ) to flash a Stock ROM, and also the Motorola USB driver installed on PC.

Thanks for your help, could you please help a little further as I cannot find a stock rom. I have been on the motorola site and followed a few links on the internet but only to find the file is no longer available. Any idea where I can get a stock rom from or can I use QFIL to load a non stock rom?
I have found a stock rom XT1524_SURNIA_RETEUALL_5.0.2_LXI22.50-13_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip this is not an mbn file, however if I open the zip folder there is a fsg.mbn file in there along with boot, bootloader gpt.bin etc. Is this the file to use with QFIL. Sorry to be a pain but I don't want to make the situation worse.
Also can you tell me if restoring to stock rom will this re-lock the bootloader?
UPDATE: First of all thank-you for all your help - I have learned a lot over the past 6 days (that's how long I have been trying to fix it). I flashed lineage-17.1-20200814-recovery-surnia and then sideloaded adb sideload lineage-17.1surnia.zip. Phone now rebooted in normal mode and showing on PC now OK. So old Moto E XT1524 on Lineage OS 17.1.

Detailed Guide for Flashing ROMs in POCO X3 / NFC (Karna & Surya)

Custom ROMs are one of the best things about Android. One of the best things about the openness of the Android platform is that if you're unhappy with the stock OS, you can install one of many modified versions of Android (called ROMs) on your device. A new ROM can bring you the latest version of Android before your manufacturer does, or it can replace your manufacturer-modded version of Android with a clean, stock version. But with the introduction of the dynamic partition flashing Custom ROMs are a bit tricky. In this post, I will run you through the steps of flashing Custom ROMs on your Poco X3.
Pre-requisites:
Unlocked Bootloader
Custom Recovery
Note:- Always create a backup of your important files before flashing.
Steps:-
From MIUI to Custom ROM
Encrypted
Copy the Custom ROMs zip to your sdcard or your OTG flash drive.
Boot to the recovery.
Flash the required firmware mentioned for the ROM.
Reboot your recovery.
Flash the Custom ROM.
And then format data [**This will wipe your internal storage**]
Reboot (Flash magisk if you want root after the first boot)
Decrypted
Flash this decrypted vendor
Flash the custom rom
Format data and reboot
From Custom ROMs to Another Custom ROM
Encrypted
**Backup your internal storage, incase something gets wrong**
Remove your lockscreen password
Boot to the recovery
Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache
Flash Custom ROM
Reboot
** If the device bootloops Format Data **
Decrypted
*If your device is encrypted*
Flash the decrypted vendor
Flash the custom rom
Format data and reboot
*If your device is already decrypted*
Wipe data and cache
Flash rom
Reboot
Notes:-
For encrypted people
Always create a backup of your internal storage.
Format data while upgrading from one android version to another.
Downgrading firmware may also require data format
Moving from Gapps build to non-gapps build or vice versa also requires fata format
For decrypted people
You don't need to flash the decrypted vendor everytime unless you come from miui
The vendor will not work on miui
All credits to POCO X3 Developers & Custom ROM Community.

Polvolt
You saved me. I had properly unlocked bootloader, flashed OrangeFox but then I did the wipes and also mistakely formated data, so I couldn't send files from PC to phone to flash the custom rom.
Guess I could've just used the usb otg at this point, but I reflashed MIUI with a script, and reflashed OrangeFox and now I'm good to go.
I thought current custom recoveries don't check for rollback protection (yet)?
It's probably safe to be flashing stock firmwares via custom recovery if you are sure you know what you're doing. But this guide seem to appeal to new comers. Should we suggest they stick to using Mi Flash tool for flashing stock firmwares as it has rollback protection checks?
Or am I just out of the loop and this is no longer the case with custom recoveries for surya/karna?
Thanks for the guide btw. Greatly appreciated.
I miss manually flashing each partition files via fastboot like when I was on my Nexus devices and my Essential PH-1. I have not seen a guide that recommends or even teaches us to flash partitions manually.

Yes it is safe to flash stock fw via custom recovery. ARB hasn't been implemented on surya yet.
Well manual flashing each partition using fastboot on surya is much more complicated. Dynamic partition work differently. In short one have to boot to fastboot than boot to fastbootd than you can flash rom
Are you sure it's not enabled? After running fastboot getvar anti, I get anti: 2 and I just bought the phone without doing any upgrades. Unless this alone doesn't mean that ARB is enabled?

No only if you get "anti:4" itmeans ARB is enabled, otherwise feel free to downgrade via fastboot.

Seems you're wrong. This XDA article states other way:
"
How to find current rollback index
Reboot to fastboot mode
Enter the following command: fastboot getvar anti
If the output is blank, then anti-rollback has not yet been enabled. If you get a number in the output, then that’s your current rollback index."

Use any fastboot stock ROM and MiFlash tool to restore your phone...or flash any custom recovery and use it to flash any recovery stock ROM to restore your phone.
I have 6 days to wait for unlocking the device. I can't wait to get rid of the Mi UI mess and bloat. I haven't had to do a complicated (for me) phone flash process like this since a Motorola phone in 2014. I have a a few questions:
1- Do I need to add/install adb drivers to my WIN10 PC? I came across win adb drivers for the POCO in my search for Windows PC drivers. Which version of adb is needed for Win10? I currently have abd my laptop, but I can't determine the version.
2- Installing the recovery - I see the steps some have posted with TWRP versions, but I'm not really clear on this. Do I go to the folder with TWRP in it and then use a command prompt from there? TWRP or Orange Fox and what version? The posts are confusing.
3- I'd like to have the easiest rom flash for my first go at this phone. I would appreciate a recommendation for which rom might be the best one to start with. I will be want gapps as part of the process, but could flash afterwards if its better that way. Is Arrow OS or Havoc a good choice?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks

Flashing ROM and Format data is the usual way....
I now. But the chronologie was another. First Format data, then flash Rom.
Usually in all my old device while flashing roms I have to wipe system data cache then I just flashed the rom, it's my first Xiaomi device I am confused as hell , should i never have to wipe system partition ? , Is flashing firmware necessary everytime ? Are there any risks associated with decrypted vendor ?please guide me I am not noob but these things are completely new to me
Device storage partition schemes have changed and are now dynamic, so previous procedures don't apply anymore. Closely follow your ROM developer instructions in order to avoid bricking your device.

Is there any way to relock the phone just through fastboot? After installing an OTA update, the partitions should match the vbmeta partition, right? So could just relock the bootloader using fastboot flashing lock or would the phone not start then?

Your device will go in to boot img corrupt after that.......
PLEASE NOTE: This isnt working if you are on a custom rom! My Bootloader ist broken and locked and I have to figure out how to fix this ****.
Hello Pankspoo.
I reset my Nord 2 again with an A11 image.
Now I wanted to lock the bootloader again. I have implemented your instructions one to one.
After that, the Nord 2 will boot normally and start.
But in the developer options I can still unlock the bootloader. So the option is not greyed out. The OTA cannot be installed but does not lead to a bootloop either.
I used the appropriate boot.img recovery & vbmeta.img.
Do you have any idea?
Best regards

Check YASNAC app from play store if it's showing safety net check passed your locked.
While installation of OTA what's errors u r getting.
After locking OEM unlock not grates off actually now it's available to unlock again with switchable tab
Sorry for crossposting a lot today, but I am really stuck and it seems that this may be the tool I need. I am on A15, cannot lock bootloader and cannot update.
So, to be sure, for this to work I need the boot.img, recovery.img and vbmeta.img for A15 stock rom? If yes, where can I get those files?
I found the files! Thank you for this guide! It worked perfectly. I really thought my phone was completely bricked. Coming from a Pixel, the root/restore process on this thing is a complete nightmare!!

Definitely, no doubt about that. But the rooting-proces after that is easy and well described here. Don't forget to FIRST take you OTA's, that makes things easier!

I want to lock the botloader, I don't want root anymore. I just need to be sure that if I service the phone for reinstallation to the original firmware, then the bootloader will be locked. Will be? thank you for answer
No worries, it'll be locked after a factory flash!

This happened to me. It turns out that I had version A10 and flashed the A12stock_boot.img and when rebooting I had no wifi. I had no twrp either, since I had just flashed the stock recovery too.
So, I figured "did this actually updated to A12?" I checked the build version on the settings and no, it did not. So maybe thats the reason the system gets confused and some functions (I only noticed wifi) don't work properly.
Anyway, this is how I solved it:
1) restored my A10 version (flashing the file I got from a link on this post)
2) rebooting to A10, I did have wifi. I tried to update to A19 through Software Updater, but even though it did download the update.zip, it failed to update ("didn't pass the verification"). So, I:
3) flashed TWRP again, rebooted into it and installed the update.zip file (in data/ota_package/) that had just been downloaded by Software Updater.
4) Rebooted.
5) Fastboot flashing lock
6) Rebooted again. Congrats, its a brand new phone!!
P.S. Don't forget to lock the OEM unlocking option in Settings.
