Newest Build Supported by Phone? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have an S4 that is no longer used, so I decided I would see if I could root and install a custom ROM on it. Every one I find seems to be 5.1, and I was curious if the phone was even capable of running a newer version of Android. If so, are there any custom ROMs of the higher OS?

Not with a locked bootloader. The Sprint S4 has tons of 7.1+ so the hardware is capable but the locked bootloader really limits things.

I'd read reference to bumping the bootloader, and assumed that was a term for unlocking it. Is it really impossible to unlock?

Not unless you're on MDC, which was the first build released for this device. It would be a miracle if your device was still on that build. There's no downgrading that far, so yeah pretty much impossible. Not sure what "bumping the bootloader" means, but the answer is still the same.

Bump is a vulnerability only for older LG bootloaders.

[Q] Unlocked bootloader?

Can you please tell me how do I check if I have an unlocked bootloader?
I read that some of the GT-P7510 wifi do have it unlocked... I would like to verify mines. Thanks.

If you're asking.. then you don't. (no, really, I'm not kidding).
When you boot the tablet there will be a little unlocked lock on the bottom of the screen
Mine is unlocked but I don't know what the benefits of it are

Ya, I figured. For reference, an unlocked bootloader looks like:

From my little knowledge, an unlocked bootloader allows you to load custom/unsigned ROMs/kernels into phones. However, nobody knows for sure what it means yet... on a Tab tablet. Any gurus, please step in and add more info.
I would like to know if there is a procedure to unlock the bootloader on my P7510.
Google shows some sort of solution but for a 10.1 tablet that does not look at all like the retail one I have.
Thanks for your help.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom ROMs/kernels. What you need for that is a custom recovery.
You mean like CWM 4.0.0.4? So what does a unlocked bootloader does then?
Personally, I would love to have my tablet as open as possible. Thanks for explaining.

I've tried Frama, Kingo and rootkhp all without success.
Any help?
Thanks
MAC
Are you sure that you have tried all these steps?
Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I have tried all those steps. When Framaroot runs I get a pop-up that says "Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot"
Any other suggestions?
MAC
when i look at device list that can be exploited by framaroot here http://framaroot.net/devices.html, i cant find z320 anywhere. maybe we should wait for some more time for the developer team to work more effort.
Is the bootloader unlockable? Do you have stock images for the device? If you do have stock images and unlockable bootloader you can create a rooted image and flash it via fastboot. Just ask chainfire if it is okay for you to use his app and binary . And for how to unpack an image, google! How to repack, google!

Q1. How can I unlock my bootloader?

Q2. Can I use TWRP Custom recovery?
A2. See A1.
Q3. Can I use Magisk?
A3. See A1
Q4. What are my options?
A4. Pay a third party code provider.
Sell your phone.
Use your phone stock.
Q5. Why would Huawei do this?
A1. Pressure from their communist masters? Or google? Who knows?
Q6. What is the point of this thread?
A6. To inform anyone who is thinking of buying a Huawei or Honor mobile phone of the situation at present.
And what is the actual point of this thread? We all know they stopped giving out the bootloader codes, so this thread is moot anf if anything will only turn into another "***** about Huawei" thread
Definitely will be the last device I buy from them.

Yea, because the existing bootloader-unlock-threads don't do that already ...

yeah, when youre looking for a device, thats been out for a while, pop into one of its forums man. We all ***** and moan about the crap that happens and sing the songs of praise for the good stuff and wee are all BRUTALLY honest about how we feel about these devices. Dont hesitate to ask man, thats why we are here
it should be getting it very soon. the releases come out in waves. These waves contain IMEIs and they are deployed via the wave to update. Or you could get it from sammobile and flash it yourself. That is the XDA way. Do, or do not. There is no try.

It used to be that every known method of rooting required you to unlock your bootloader to flash custom stuff, which you can't do on U.S. models. But now, they found a workaround without unlocking it to gain root access. Look it up

Question Error when trying to unlock bootloader

Hi all.
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my 8 Flip but am having a couple of issues. First one is that there's no "OEM Unlock" option in my Dev settings. I've tried running the official unlock tool anyay, and it errors out saying "Failed to unlock your device, please try again later.[11006]"
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Solved it - Just had to turn wifi off and use mobile data and it worked
My friend has an error code when unlocking the Bootloader. Do you know why?

To root the phone
where did you buy the phone? Some vendors sell phones that cannot be rooted.
You can see it with the app CPU-Z in System section if you see bootloader : no, you can't root
I was just about to unlock the bootloader to try to dump the recovery.img and use that to create a twrp image.
But there is a big warning saying:
Before you download, install, and use the Unlock Device App (“Service”), you understand that you need to take all risks in terms of quality and performance of the Service, including but not limited to: once you trigger the Service, you’re not able to recover your ASUS products to the original status at the time of manufacturing (“Original Product”) anymore. Original Products which is used with the Service (“Changed Product”) will no longer be regarded as the Original Products. The software updates will not be available to the Changed Product, and the digital content in the Changed Product may no longer be used. (...)

Does this mean I would not get security updates and later the Android 13? I only want to get twrp to be able to root the device. but losing the OS updates would be a big no-no.
Are those who have unlocked it getting updates? Can anyone confirm this?
