Find a kernel to root Lineage on i9100 device ( newbie) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone , :good:
As mentionned on the title , i am searching to download some stuff to root my Galaxy S2 device .
I am a beginner ; the things i've done before on my device is installing Lineage 14.1 ( Android version running on my phone is Android 7.1.2 )
I am actually trying to root my phone . I've tried to use somme apps , like Framaroot and Kingsroot but it didn't work .
Reading some topics and watching tutorials about that i've understood i need to use some insecure kernel with odin to bypass some restriction .... but i can't find this kernel .
I've tried to find a kernel who is specific to mine ( 3.0.101-lineage-g349a3e9 ) . I don't know how it is important to use the proper kernel so i prefer asking to you what kernel i can download for my device .
So , what kernel can i use for my device , and where can i find it ???
I'll be glad to have some answers and i hope i've been understood , i'm not fluent in english .
( i let you some information here : GT-I9100 , Android 7.1.2 , OS : 14.1-201705-NIGHTLY-i91OO , Kernel 3:.0.101-lineage-g349a3e9 Build lineage_i9100userdebug 7.1.2 N2G470 f607bf3184 )

you only need to install the addon that comes in page for the root: s
https://download.lineageos.org/extras
you install it from recovery and ready

Thanks for the answer !
Actually i have already tried to install a file ( i had additional files of lineageROM like TWRP and ADDsu ARM ) like that by the recovery mode of my phone ( the file was Addsu-ARM ) and it did'nt work ( so i thought i need some special kernel )
I follow this steps : Recovery mode>apply update>sdcard0>download>AddsuARM
But maybe i've made a mistake . I've tried to do the same with the file you provided to me but it was the same ...
Any idea off that's going wrong ??
Thanks a lot , i'll keep continue to search how to install this file

Well, you should have flashed twrp 3. together with rom and you would have been fine to flash anything like root.zip.
Now i suppose you are on useless stock recovery.
You have to start again and flash kernel/recovery with odin and then upgrade.
Just want to remind to the need of repartioning to at least 1gb system/4gb data before flashing 14.1 rom and do not to forget to flash twrp recovery.
There is a thread/guide by saber and another one by djibe89 (in Q&A) how to update.
Sent from my BTV-W09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

here my guide to get fast TWRP, repit(is what I use when I'm switching between SAMMY and AOKP roms) non use of computer or odin:
Downgrade to 6.x Rom, many of them are already integrated the recovery TWRP isorec some of them:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-t3356498
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-team-octos-oct-m-t3313585
now in recovery currently TWRP
modify the PIT to have more system and data space, I upload the tools to change the PIT based on @Lanchon tool https://github.com/Lanchon/REPIT
1GB system 6GB data at the same time I also attach another one to return to the stock pit 0,5 system 2GB data:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UgDOouH6n3Gz1uzadzKTBdsI-wOFmQ9T
put those 2 files in some folder or in the root of the microSD in TWRP we will install the one that says lanchon-repit-20170115-system = 1G-data = 6G + wipe-sdcard = max-preload = min + wipe-i9100 later it will give us an error is something normal if we install it from the microSD but it will have installed in the root / tmp of the internal memory, we install it from there and wait for 3-6 minutes to complete now make all wipes without external sdcard or scard1 finally install the desired rom together your gapps

Thanks for those answers !
I did flash the rom with odin and install lineage,Gapps, and TWRP ( but despite of your advice TriboDoP , i did not make a partition data because it was nothing to save on my phone .. maybe i have misunderstood and if you say i must make some partition , i'll do all the process again with the creation partition's part ) .
After that i ran the TWRP recovery mode , install the addsuARM file , reboot and then allow ADP and applications to acess the root by "options for developers" , root acess .
Now i can run the App2Sd app' ( really need to learn how it works:silly: ) .... but it is another story !
Abels2 thanks to have took the time to show me your alternative method , maybe it will be useful later !

Fine you managed to flash rom etc incl. root!
I just wonder how it worked without repartitioning.
But never mind if it works!
Just in case there is a need to increase the system partition and data partition aswell - all you have to do is to flash the lanchon pitfile.zip with your twrp recovery like @Abels2 said.

[GUIDE]How to install CyanogenMod based ROMs (D618)

Well with the fact that i just 'Beginner' in android -developer world i spent two days (read and search) to just know what the right steps to have unofficial rom . So this is not thread from professional it's just what i understand so far . (SORRY FOR BAD ENGLISH)
It's some simple Steps :
1) First you need to root your Device to have fully adminstrator . (This make you can execute terminal order from you and the apps)
2)After you get root install flash tool To do Setup 4 . (Rasher or Flashify)
3)You must UNlocked you bootloader . (So the new rom can edit your boot process)
4)Install custom Recovery [CWM]or[PHILZ]or[TWRP]. (This make you can do zip install from external card)
5)Get your rom download and copy to your external card.
NOW YOUR READY
OK Now my guide is for LG G2 MINI (D618)
The custom rom is [ROM][5.1.1][D618/D620] Cyanogenmod 12.1 Stable
And my phone have OFFICIAL android 5.0.2 lollipop
1) ROOT : FOLLOW THIS GUIDE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/development/root-root-g2-mini-lollipop-t3123652
If it not success . do factory reset and start the root again but this time (don't setup superSU from store and don't restart your phone and IT's su Not Su) this should success .
2) DOWNLOAD THE FLASH TOOL FROM PLAY STORE AND KEEP IT
3) BOOTLOADER : FOLLOW THIS GUIDE (YOU MUST TAKE BACKUP FOR YOUR PHONE FIRST)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/development/bootloader-d620-d618-t3127819
4) CUSTOM RECOVERY : FOLLOW THIS GUIDE (CWM SUCCESS WITH ME) (JUST FLASH .IMG FILE WITH SETUP NUM (2))
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/development/recovery-lg-g2-mini-d618-v10c-t2854493
5) DOWNLOAD THE FILE YOU NEED FROM HERE AND COPY TO EXTERNAL CARD AND FOLLOW Installation :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g2-mini/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-stable-t3175833
NOW IF THIS SETUP'S SUCCESS THE HARD PART IS OVER.
6) Now reboot into recovery mode (you will find this in Flash tool)
in recovery mode you need just two things (WIPE AND INSTALL)
7)CHOOSE "Wipe" CACHE, DATA and SYSTEM (THIS WILL DELETE YOUR PERSONAL DATA AND SETTING AND EVERY THING)
8)CHOOSE INSTALL ZIP FROM EXTERNAL CARD AND CHOOSE FIRST KK_BOOTSTACK_D618_1.1.ZIP THEN cm-12.1-20150828-UNOFFICIAL-g2m.ZIP
9) RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL GAPPS (tk_gapps-modular-pico(uni)-5.1.1-20150824-signed.ZIP)
10) NOW YOU HAVE DONE .. REBOOT YOUR PHONE AND IT WILL DO SOME INSTALL FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTE AND YOU WILL SEE SETTING SETUP ON THE SCREEN
11)F YOU HAVE unstable SIM signal JUST GO TO RECOVERY AND WIPE ONLY CACHE IT WILL BACK TO NORMAL.
THIS IS MY experience ON MY G2 D618 I DON'T KNOW ABOUT OTHER PHONE'S
THANK YOU XDA AND XDA-DEVELOPER'S FOR YOUR HARD WORK .
Thank you very very much for this great explanations!!!
Tried to flash custom recovery with Rashr after unlocking bootloader. Tried CWM, Philz and TWRP and always ended up with attached screen.
What do you think the mistake is? And what do you mean with setup Num 2? Do you mean kernel flash in Rashr?
Thank you!

this is the stock android recovery that means that you didn't or couldn't flash a custom recovery
make sur you extracted the zip file and flashed the recovery.img with flashify

i think your device is d620r and your trying to flash the one from the thread [RECOVERY][CWM][PHILZ][TWRP] G2 Mini D618
if you can boot into system reflash the matching recovery TWRP for your device if you can't connect your phone to pc
use fastboot to flash the recovery

is it 5.1 or 5.1.1?
The quick way to root any ROM, including the newly released 5.1.1 is, if you have an unlocked bootloader:
- Hotboot any custom kernel with a recovery (fastboot)
- Flash SuperSU
- Reboot
If you want CWM/TWRP:
- Flash NUT's Dual Recovery kernel through fastboot
- Reboot
You're now rooted, and you have recovery.
NOTE: If you have no idea how to use fastboot, then you can use QuickIMG. It lets you flash .IMGs very easily without needing to use any commands. Do however read the instructions provided before you use it.
It's also a good idea to learn how to get out of a sticky situation in case something goes wrong. If you want to be on the safe side when testing kernels, hotboot, or boot an IMG/kernel instead of flashing. Once you see that the kernel is indeed working, and you're not experiencing any bootloops or red LED blinking, then you can safely flash it to disk.
Note: Hotbooting means that the device will only boot the kernel once, so it doesn't really flash it to the device. Flashing a kernel writes it to the device, making it permanent until you replace it by flashing a different kernel yourself.

hi there. I just want to say that after following your guide I could not get in to recovery after flashing the 5.1.1 ftf minus the kernel. when turning the phone on it goes straight to normal boot but it doesn't. it goes in to a boot loop. some how it removes dual recovery and can't flash SuperSU there for loosing root and yes I was rooted with dual recovery. could you explain with more details how to please because I did as you said and didn't work

Need help!! i accidentally removed the internal storage partition.

My device is YU YU4711 , rooted, then I flashed TWRP via fastboot, then using TWRP I backed up the stock ROM , and then flashed RR ROM (7.1.2), it was working fine , but then I thought of flashing RR ROM (6.0) , In the process to do so I couldn't erase the system to flash new ROM (failed to mount system) , so I was on TWRP and I accidentally changed my partition format and since then I have no ROM installed , no internal storage partition , I have TWRP and it shows internal storage (0 mb), I have checked other threads too but found no solution . please please help me .
I'll soon post snaps of the TWRP , and let me know if you need any other information

Hello...!
Try googling "YU YU4711 stock rom". There seem to be enough answers there to your problem.
Most likely you will need:
1. stock firmware
2. Qualcomm USB Driver
3. YU USB Driver
4. Qualcomm Flash Image Loader (QFIL)
Take a look here also!!! https://forum.xda-developers.com/yu-yunique/development/guide-flashing-stock-rom-yu-yunique-t3219897

Thanks for the quick reply , I will download these files asap and flash the firmware , A question , does flashing the stock firmware fixes the partition problem , there are no /internal storage or /data partitions to be mounted .
I had this problem before , it's so simple , learn how to use the ADB SIDE LOAD method so u can push the ROM into the phone storage from PC.

To my knowledge, flashing using the QFIL method (and using correct stock firmware) almost completely wipes and repartitions the device to the new (stock firmware). (the correct flashing software is QFIL since your device's processor belongs to the Qualcomm famiy)
You will see pretty soon, if you get on with is, that a scatter file is required for completing the flashing process. If you take a look at the file with a text editor, you might get a better idea of how you device will be partitioned (most likely from scratch).
Look a little bit more around, just to get a better idea on how to use QFIL. There are options on the software to force format/ wipe if nothing else works, or there is also the option to either download or upgrade. You will see once you get the program running.
My concern is that you don't just rush to flash the firmware. Try to understand the process as much as you can, and then give it a go!

I am not sure if you really need to have enabled usb debugging for this particular method to work. Perhaps more experienced members can chip in here??? Heeeelp!!!!
Still there are a couple of things you can try, provided that you have correctly installed the drivers to enable at least some communication between your phone and the computer.
1. Try just connecting the phone to computer (powered off) after having pressed the download button in QFIL.
2. Try holding the volume up button and connecting the phone to PC (powered off phone) after having pressed the download button in QFIL.
3. Try holding the volume down button and connecting the phone to PC (powered off phone) after having pressed the download button in QFIL.
For all of the above, it would really help if the battery was out of your device (if it is removable).
I really do hope that you will get a chance to revive your device... For the time being, I am out of ideas myself... I wish you the best!

Is there any way to cancel the flashing task or reboot the twrp? Any help would highly appreciated.

Your TWRP version's is super old , you should update it .
But exit this situation is a problem , it seem that the only solution is a forced reboot to bootloader (by pressing vol down + power button until the phone restarts in bootloader mode) .
I'm not sure at all of this solution , so I can't be responsible for what will happen to your phone.
Then reflash LOS ( if it worked the first time , it may work 2nd time ) with the SU Add-on to root your device .
Then , boot your device , download the TWRP companion app , and download the right and up to date recovery image for your device.
Since your rooted your device , you'll be able to flash the recovery image via the TWRP app .
Flash the recovery and with the app and reboot to recovery.
Finally flash your GApps .
Keep at mind that TWPR (your custom recovery) is the most important thing of your phone , that's what allows you to recover your phone even in critical situation .
So please , until now , keep it up to date
Good luck

Hey RaiZ,
Thanks so much for looking into this!
Pressing vol down + power button solved the issue and the OS started perfectly fine. I've updated TWRP as well just like you mentioned, however, I'm having trouble getting the device rooted. I've downloaded the latest SU Add-on from this page: download.lineageos.org/extras and installed LOS with the addon. It did not work.
Then I've decided to switch to Ressurection OS 8.1 which comes with Magisk root inbuilt, yet that did not work either. Access to root was only showing root access for ADB which did not work ("adb shell su" command outputed "su: not found")
Lastly, I've installed latest version of SU-addon for RR OS. Now I'm getting root access options for apps and ADB, but selecting "Manage root access" outputs no applications for root access, "root checker" app still cannot verify root and adb shell su command returns "Permission denied".
Do you have any suggestions what might be wrong?

Personally , I don't really know a lot about Resurrection Remix , but assuming that it work the same as LOS , you should go to the developer option and see what you got.
If you still got op only 2 option after flashing the add-on , I will advice you to flash Magisk on your device to root it

Yes you will need Odin. If you are going to use magisk then either flash twrp or use the patch method. Either way require Odin.
Personally I use twrp. You can copy all files needed ( on to SD card ) and flash within twrp.

yes that was my plan stay magisks with twrp ,
altough i dont remember i did this when i installed twrp on mines
HOW TO INSTALL:
0. Make sure you enabled developer settings by pressing the build number several times and have the OEM unlock enabled
1. Boot into download mode by pressing: bixby, volume down and power
2. Download the latest Odin version, open it
3. Download the recovery file from below and put it into the AP tab
4. Untick "auto reboot" in odin and flash the file
5. After flashing, boot into twrp. Make sure to NOT allow system to be modified till you disable dm-verity! (otherwise your phone will be stuck at bootloop). Alternatively flash my stock patched kernel to the boot partition (install, install img, check the kernel, check boot partition, done). Find the patch kernel here
6. To disable encryption you need to format data

Basically yes. I would first do a backup ( I know but the amount of people not doing it and then wanting to know how to retrieve the lost data ).
In download mode check kg/rmm state is NOT in prenormal state.
Step 5 - allowing system to be modified - that's up to you. I normally allow modifications.
Then format data reboot back into twrp.
Flash/install - no verity zip, rmm bypass zip, magisk .
Hey i have a problem, i downloaded latest rom but my bt wont save bt pairings, what can i do about it
