Anyone working on a Non-EMUI Rom? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

I'm curious if anyone is working on a ROM without EMUI or that removes the left pane from EMUI that uses huawei id and replaces it with google now.

If you don't want to rebrand, try rootless pixel launcher. You won't be able to use a lot of the stock widgets but everything else should be ok.

I use Nova launcher and Google now nova companion to do just what your looking for. Don't need root, same deal as the modded pixel launcher, Huawei widgets will crash.

Hiding Apps via EMUI

Coming from a Nexus 6p with Nova Launcher, I've found it frustrating to use EMUI, especially the inability to hide apps - mainly the bloatware that are installed.
Is therea any way to have a folder for "junk"?
I've searched and found these:

Download emui tweaker on playstore and you will be able to hide app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.emuitweaker
Once option activated with emui tweaker you have to pinch screen with you finger to access to hide menu app
Thanks sonydesouza I'll try it out

I thought a "zoom out" was the inverse method to pinch in,which brings up your settings to the EMUI page (Wallpaper, Widgets, transitions, settings etc)?
When I do the opposite zoome out, nothing happens - am I making a school boy error here?

Yes it's the inverse at pinch (sorry for my bad English)
Did you reboot the phone?
Because it works for sure with this app.
It was a feature of precedent emui but it still works on emui 8.
It's just desactivated by default on emui 8 and this app activate it again
You have to do the exact opposite with your finger that which brings settings of emui page

Thanks.
Just French with a Spanish nickname seen on a "B TV show" ?
See screenshot below
!!
Well i have had that screenshot, restarted my phone as suggested but then I can't make it work!
So I have the screen like this, hit reboot, then can't access the hidden menu

Very strange did you spread your two fingers on screen at the same time?

I also have a Mate 10. This works for me, but only in "Standard" not "Drawer" style homescreen. I have not found a way to hide apps in the drawer using stock launcher.
Same here with Honor 9 and emiui 8, zoom out-->home settings, zoom in--->nothing :/
I can confirm that the hidden apps folder works on EMUI 8.1 on P20 Pro but only in Standard homescreen mode, but not in Drawer mode.

Dark google feed

Hello!
Is there a way to add a dark theme to the Google feed on the stock launcher ?
I have dark mode enabled on my phone and that white feed just looks out of place.
Cpl launcher has it.

Try this (I found purely by accident on Reddit)
1. Leave the Google app beta program (if enrolled)
2. Goto device settings / Google app and clear data and cache
3. Goto playstore and update to latest Google app (do not re enroll to the beta program)
4. Change your device default language to English (US) and reboot.
5. Set a dark theme / wallpaper on your launcher.
6. Enjoy your new dark feed
NB
Confirmed only working on Oreo 8.1 and above and is working on my Huawei Honor 7s with Oreo 8.1 and EMUI 8.0
I tried but no luck. Maybe the method doesn't work on Android pie.

It ONLY works on Android 8.1 and 9.0 pie, no other versions.
I can confirm it works on pie, I have a Motorola E5 Play (Pettyl) running an android 9.0 treble GSI, works fine.

Actually that is not the case, with EMUI 8 the feed changes to dark if you have a wallpaper that is dark overall, it does it by itself (Google feed)

As I said in my previous comment, I've had a dark feed in EMUI 8 for weeks on my honor 7S, but I didn't get it until I left the google beta and changed my default language From English UK to English US.

When my Mate 10 Pro was on EMUI 8 ,the feed never changed to the dark theme. The wallpaper was mainly dark and I'm always keeping dark mode on.

If you're using the EMUI launcher the news feed isn't Google, it is the Huawei version (HiCard) right now I'm using the pixel launcher (it uses Google feed) and the feed automatically changes depending on your wallpaper, no setting change needed. I'll have to switch back to EMUI and check.

I have EMUI 8 on an honor 7s and the Huawei launcher has the google feed, and always has. I don't have "hicard" anywhere on my device.
Edit
The Huawei honour range is very different to the Huawei range proper, what I have here and what you guys may have doesn't mean everyone and every device has exactly the same thing, it's all down to device and firmware - I thought I better point that out so people don't get upset or confused
I did explain there was no guarantee making those changes would work.
Several EMUI 9 users are saying on the Reddit post I copied this from that it doesn't work, where as EMUI 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2 users claim this works fine (like it does for me)

How to install Custom themes on VOG-L04 or any other device thats restricted to local

What you need:
Huawei Mobile Services - Get it on APK Mirror
Package Manager: App Details, Analyze & Backup - Get it on the Play Store
Steps:
1) Uninstall any update Play Store has made to your theme app
2) Install Huawei Mobile Services
3) Install Package Manager: App Details, Analyze & Backup
4) Open the package manager you installed and click on the "Activities" tab, then in the search bar type in "hwid" it will show Huawei Mobile Services. Click it to expand its activities.
5) Scroll the list of activities until you see ""HUAWEI ID" click it and then choose launch
6) this will bring you to a log in page with a link to "register" click it to create an account. Create an account, use "UK" as your region, skip the phone/sms verification and it will use your email to verify.
7) Verify your account.
8) Scroll the list of activities until you see "Account Center" click it and then choose launch which will bring you to what should be an already logged in the account manager
9) Open the themes app it will ask you to agree to the terms then notify you its switching to the Local of your Huawei ID. Bam custom themes.
10) disable the themes app auto update in the play store as it will reset the app back to the North american CUST features.
11) ???
12) Profit.
Just curious, but why is this necessary? Does Huawei not allow users in all regions to install custom themes?

custom thems are locked out of certain regions, which means your stuck with the half dozen that come built into the rom and thats it.
This step unfortunately doesn't work on my UK Honor 7s (DUA-L22) EMUI 8.0 android 8.1
Pressing on launch account center just glitches the screen out and doesn't open anything up.
Edit
After installing both those apps, my previously installed custom themes have now returned that disappeared after the February/March OTA update.
So this really does work, just slightly different (for my device)
Thanks alot.

Just the screen "glitches" (flashed white) but the Account centre never opened....
When I returned to the theme manager after unsuccessfully trying to open Account centre, my custom themes I had installed on my device from March had returned and all work like before.
(The nav bar and notification shade still don't change theme, as before so the same functionality from before has now returned.

I have to correct you there - I've never found a theme yet that has changed the notification shade colour - the android p theme does change the nav bar to the filled in arrow circle and square but no other themes have ever worked.
I assumed that was an honour thing.
Had the device since November last year, dual SIM SIM unlocked in UK.
Tried just about every theme there is and haven't yet been able to change the notification shade.

Here you go.
Android P grey theme.
Applied and rebooted.
Notification shade hasn't changed - but nav bar has changed.
And yes you are very correct, it hasn't worked properly because I don't have the theme store on my device still (used to be until last OTA update)

I had the same issue as that other guy with the flashing screen. I had to use the Huawei ID activity instead and that worked. Afterwards, I tried the Account Center activity and it went to the account settings, while the Huawei ID activity no longer worked. Thanks for the post in any case, helped a ton!

Follow the instructions exactly on the original thread and the top of the app itself. Turn off AOD and give all permissions. When selecting the apps you want to enable click the app name and select the color you want for that particular app (It doesn't seem to work unless you do that), the name of the app will change to that color. Once it's working you can switch AOD back on.

I'm on global Pie too and it didn't work until I assigned colors to the enabled apps. Ensure you click confirm for the colors.
However try these solutions:
1) Reboot your device and enable again
2) Uninstall and reinstall
3) Disable AOD before setting up
4) Ensure notification access, autostart etc are enabled.
5) Lock the app in recents
6) Basically give it all the permissions it requires.

Hmmm. App was working great until a few days ago when it started draining the battery on my Nex. All of sudden it started showing up near the top of the battery stats. Uninstalled and everything is back to normal but I miss the functionality. Maybe the next update will rectify whatever it is the developer changed.
