Hello,
I've a problem with my Z5c when video/audio recording. There's quite some noise and a ticking sound regardless of how quiet it is in the recording environment.
I've made a loop video of one of my recordings when i've tried testing different settings. Please note that the noise is more easily noticeable when listing to a recording on the phone itself - here's the link youtu.be/AF5EDJtJIMI (new user, can't use outside links). The odd thing is that the sound gain is poor, meaning that when i record someone speaking, standing at 1.5m away from the phone, the voice can barely be heard.
Below is a list of phone settings and tests/results i've performed:
- Android version: 7.1.1 stock
- Mic sensitivity: Automatic (I've tried the rest of settings but none seemed to "fix" my issue)
- During calls: no problem
- Main/Secondary microphone tests (from *#*#7378423#*#*): no noise but the volume is so low
- Various apps for Audio Recording: same issues as the camera
- Various apps for Video Recording: same issues
I've tried searching for similar issues but with no luck - has anyone else encountered this?
Could this be a hardware or software issue?
With respect,
Bogdan

Rooted stock I9300XXLFB (international) version. The audio recording is very noisy. I tried several applications for video+audio recording and audio only recording but the noise is always there (EDIT: except of call recording where the noise is ok but overall recording quality is low, of course). Here are two examples taken with the stock Camera application (with the audio track taken out of the resulting mp4 using ffmpeg). I was hoping that the latest fix from radeonxt might help but it is perhaps even worse (more noise from the lower frequencies seem to appear) - the first one (before.aac) is before the fix, the other file is after applying the fix. Both of these were recorded at night in a completely quite room.
before.aac
after.aac
Is this a general S3 problem or is it something specific for my S3? Any sugggestion how to fix it?
I tried 2 other things.
Noise removal in audacity worked pretty well. Of course, this was a very simple spoken word example and it would probably not work well with eg quite background music but still it shows that the problem might simply be no noise reduction while recording audio.
Then I recorded a fake call (using Call Recorder) - and the noise is not present there. Of course, it is a much lower quality (8000Hz at 6.4 kbit vs 48000 Hz at 45/80 kbit) but still it shows that a software fix might be possible. However, strangely enough (at least for me), the noise is not even present if I turn off call noise reduction in the call advanced options:
mediafire.com/?5liar18ekjt5afm
(sorry for not providing a full link but it seems that suddenly I am not allowed to include links??? I get an error message that new users cannot post links - strangely, I was allowed to do that 10 hours ago)
Anyway, the only conclusion I can make is that is seems likely to me that a software fix is possible.
However, first I am wondering, can somebody confirm having the same levels of noise in audio/video recording? If the problem is in my device then I'd rather return it - I certainly want to use the S3 for recording videos from time to time and it is close to unusable for me at these noise levels...
Any input highly appreciated!

If I knew this is a general S3 issue then I could just wait and hope voodoo for s3 is out soon indeed
However, so far I have not found anybody either confirming or denying the noise on his s3 (I do not personally know anybody else with S3), so I am wondering whether it is not a problem specific for my device...
If anybody with S3 could make some audio recording (eg using the Camera application) under similar conditions (just a few words in a quite environment) and compare the noise level or post the recording here, that would be a huge help... but any report (I think/I don't think I have the same problem) or comment would definitely help me too...
I have just found a few S3 video recordings on youtube that are significantly less noisy than mine, eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfsdxx7dK8k (even though he is complaining about audio, it is still much less noisy than what I get)
So I guess either there are different versions of S3 with different microphones/drivers or my microphones/drivers are not working properly. Anybody has an idea how could I find out what is the case?
Anybody? Any idea, suggestion, comment?
Hello,
i have problem probably with noise reduction - when i record video in quite room, audio is ok,
but when background a little bit noise, i hear only some scratches, sometimes a quiet voice ...
The same situation is when i record call, barely hear voices... is there any possibility to change settings in noise reduction?
I'm using aosp, on miui there where only problem with call recording...
Is qualcomm have something similar to mtk engineering menu? Maybe some settings in build.prop?
I think it's a problem of the secondary mic (it is located next to the headphones port) which is used for noise cancellation. I haven't experienced an issue with video recording yet (because I haven't recorded any video) but I have problems with call quality. Every time I place the phone a little far from my mouth I hear complaints that the other person cannot hear me, which wasn't an issue with my older phone.
The temporary solution I have found is covering the secondary mic with my finger (thus disabling it). Also from what I've found in the internet there are some other phones with the same problem and there are ways to disable the secondary mic through software but I haven't tested it yet. Here are the links I'm talking about

I repeat that I haven't tested this fixes myself and I don't know if they are compatible with our phone.
Thanks for answer,
when i was looking for a solution, i saw tread from one+ but i was counting that is fix directly for our model.
Firstly i change build.prop - and now testing, in audio platform i dont have such line, solution from nexus same situation - dont have those lines.
Hello..
I have problem with background noise during audio call.. because of that noise.... I didn't talk with person who is in call..
When recording sound (to a voice recorder or when recording video), the smartphone uses the functions AGC (automatic gain control) and NR (noise reduction). Try to record and hear that the first few seconds the sound is loud. Then the volume decreases and the noise reduction function is activated. Sounds awful. These functions are appropriate for a telephone conversation. When recording music, nature sounds and the environment, these functions seriously damage the sound.
I tried to edit the Build Prop (lines persist.audio.fluence). No changes occurred.
I tried editing mixer_paths.xml and related files. But my knowledge was not enough. I did not receive any changes.
In addition, it is known that on wileyfox swift with firmware cm-12.1-YOG4PAS33J this problem is not present. On later firmware the problem appeared.
Perhaps AGC and NG are sewn into the driver. Or implemented through audio effects in libraries.
Who knows how to disable these functions?
In advance thanks for the answer. And sorry for my bad English
Hi, I have noticed the sound issue with recording audio on the Swift 2. Have tried two different models and found the same thing. Did you ever find a resolution for this? It's very annoying.
I have a problem that when I'm recording movies, the audio quality is very bad. This mainly applies to recording movies in noisy places, for example in clubs. Instead of music, you can hear only buzzing, clattering and cracking. I think that reducing the sensitivity of the microphone during recording would solve this problem. Unfortunately, I could not find the right guide on how to do it on the internet. Literally all tutorials either do not work or show how to change the microphone's sensitivity only when calling. I tried to modify DEC1 and DEC2 values in literally all files whose name starts with "mixer_paths ...". It also did not help. I would like to add that the quality of sound on movies recorded with other phones in the same places is as it should be, the music is clearly heard without any disturbance.
Phone - Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon)
ROM - Android 6.0.1 MIUI 10.2 (Dev 8.11.22)
Thanks in advance for replies.
Every couple of minutes I am getting a loud pop/crack sound during normal calls and the same behaviour on Whatsapp and Viber calls.
I tried both on speaker and without and the result is the same. I am running all the latest updates. The adaptive sound is disabled.
Also tried Stealth Audio Player to hear both the external and internal speaker on Youtube videos and I can't reproduce it except sometimes it pops when a video is started. I also tried recording my mic and it sounds clear without this popping.
Is there anything else I can try to fix or debug this issue? It sounds like it is trying to record or adapt the sound while on call even if the adaptive is off.

This kinda sounds like the problem I had, but ALLLLL the way back to my Pixel 2 XL!
If you're rooted, you can try what worked for me below -- although, I'm not up to date with Viper4Android (V4A) and I believe it's either EOL or is in the process of being updated to work in x64 architecture or there are newer updated branches or something... But if it's possible to lower the frequencies, you might luck out like I did on the taimen...
I Found a Speaker Distortion Fix
Like many, my phone has the lower speaker distortion on speaker phone calls and general audio, like YouTube, when turned up high. If you are rooted, I have found a solution to all situations except speaker phone calls. I installed Viper4android...

Thanks for the help. I can hardly hear any issues while on youtube. There is noticeable pop when videos ending or starting. Some people are reporting motherboard issues with Pixel 7 leading to similar problems. I am trying to find if it is a hardware or software issue.
After further investigation it looks like interference. If I disable the mobile data and WIFI it seems to be a lot better. After 16 minutes call it was a very faint pop if at all. Does it sound like it needs a motherboard replacement or a future patch might fix it. Update: still happening regardless of connectivity on both the inner and outer speaker. I am going to RMA for motherboard replacement.
