Hi,.
I own a redmi note 5 and naturally I go to thread redmi note 5 / 5 plus. But I notice the code name doesn't match.
Now I confused, should I go to redmi note 5 pro??
If I'm not mistaken my note 5 is code name are Why red right?
But why two same thread on xda redmi note 5?
And what the sidéré ce between note 5 and 5 pro?!
PLS HELP, THX
EDIT : NOTE PRO HAVE 625 SNAPDRAGON AND MISSING 4G BANDWICH I THINK
Redmi 5 plus code name Vince had 625
Redmi note 5 / pro has 636
Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5 are basically same devices, maybe some difference in the bands, both have a processor SD625, R5+ called too R5P has a codename Vince and RN5 has a codename Whyred and was manufacturer for selling in India.
Redmi Note 5 Pro has processor SD636 and has many improvements comparing the other two.

Redmi Note 5 is the same (not exactly) device than Redmi 5 Plus except for the bands enabled.
This device was made it for India to implement these required bands for this country, for this reason not being an exact same it has other codename that is Whyred.

Indian Redmi Note 5 is vince. Whyred is separate device. Whyred is sold in India as Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Redmi 5 Plus (China/Singapore/Pakistan etc) -> Redmi Note 5 (India etc) -> SD 625, single back camera -> code name "vince"
Redmi Note 5 (China/Singapore/Pakistan etc) -> Redmi Note 5 Pro (India etc) -> SD 636, dual back camera -> code name "whyred"
Fastest way to check which phone you have if your phone is named Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5 or Redmi Note 5 Pro is to check how many back cameras it have. If you have single back camera it is vince, if you have two back cameras it is whyred
As for bands supported all of these support 4G LTE but I'm not sure which bands each supports. There is variation in bands supported between different variants of vince itself. There are also different variants of whyred that support different bands.

The device with codename whyred is a completely separate device. Indian Redmi Note 5 is in fact almost the same phone as Redmi 5 Plus and its codename is also vince.
Indian Redmi Note 5 is not whyred.

I´m sure about my model, I have the first batch bought in pre-sale manufactured initially only for China. . OP asked for.
Your summary is correct but it´s needed some clarification,
If we take in account some background they´re and they´re not same device apparently (due to how they´re called depending from the region) so is precise to clarify this "error" from Xiaomi.
There is some confussion maybe due some effects caused by the globalization so after of my model that I own (chinese version) Xiaomi had release the international version (with international firmware) and thirdly released other version that is the Global version adding two bands; 4 and 20 (of course all of budget devices manufactured in 2018 comes with 4G, it´s imposible to imagine a device running only 3G actually atleast for this spectrum) for this reason it´s opened a same forum for these devices that is this.
The sequence of the last stated is as follows:
- Redmi 5 Plus with chinese firmware.
- Redmi 5 Plus with international firmware
- Redmi 5 Plus with two bands added (Global version) known as Redmi Note 5 in India, etc.
These three mentioned are the same like I said before with probably the unique difference that the third; Redmi Note 5 is a Global with more bands.
This is the reference: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_5_(redmi_5_plus)-8959.php so the members that opened this thread are in the correct otherway they would be wrong calling to this forum with that tittle.
Then it is the Redmi Note 5 (What? It´s not the same that the third mentioned? here´s the confussion, Xiaomi calls to this last device that was manufactured initially for India (of course maybe other neighbors countries may benefit) Redmi Note 5 but known in India like Redmi Note 5 Pro and distributed officially with this name.
This is the reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redmi_Note_5
Then to have more clear this is the easy summary:
1- Redmi 5 Plus (both chinese + international firmware)
2- Redmi 5 Plus (Global version with 2 bands added) This launched as Redmi Note 5 in India and of course sold for all around the world due to globalization.
3- Redmi Note 5 (Launched with this name in China but released in India as Redmi Note 5 Pro)
For this reason if I buy from China it´s known as Redmi Note 5

but it´s different respect to our RN5 or R5P (R5+)
This is some reference: https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro-kernel-source-code-android-nougat-release/ see in the third paragraph.
The 2 first versions mentioned have the same specs and they are identical devices
(why 2 and not 3?) Both mentioned in the item 1 only have different firmware pre-charged but they have identical specs (SD625) and they are the same device and both have codename vince and the mentioned in the item 2 although it´s not an identical device (but virtually the same) also has the same processor SD625 and it too receives the same codename vince.
The mentioned in the item 3 has other processor (camera is a good detail at quick glance) this is the SD636 codename whyred.
How someone can distinguish the Redmi Note 5 (Global version of R5P or R5+) between the Redmi Note 5 also known like Redmi Note 5 Pro? well, for this reason Xiaomi is rebranding Redmi 5 Plus all versions to Redmi Note 5 and the version specially made it for India Redmi Note 5 to Redmi Note 5 Pro to avoid more confussions.
So finally we will have officially only these two variants (although some seller or people continues call them like they want)
1 - Redmi Note 5 - codename: vince (Redmi 5 Plus-both firmwares- and Redmi 5 Plus Global with 2 bands added).
2.- Redmi Note 5 Pro - codename: whyred.
I hope that this finally has been clarified.

I never doubted anything you had to say about the Redmi 5 Plus and its bands. I'm sure you know much more about the different variants than me. This post was quite clarifying. But in your previous post I got the wrong impression as if you meant that the device being sold in India as the Redmi Note 5 has a codename of whyred. You didnt mean that but that was what I inferred from that post. So I wanted to clarify that though whyred is the Redmi Note 5 in China and other markets in India it is sold as Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Redmi 5 Plus is sold as Redmi Note 5 in India. And by saying that they are same devices I meant mostly similiar and for most purposes they are as in you can use the same recoverys and ROMs. Thankyou for your post as after the mess that Xiaomi has created in naming these devices it helped me alot in understanding.
Plus my post was really simplified for people who wanted to know which device they have to know which ROM to flash as I have seen many such people in the forums so I wrote that as simple as possible.

Oh welcome, Your summary is very clear. The error comes from Xiaomi.
A device can receive other name if it is for other country due most of times to bands added but for me is incorrect to call a device the same name for a country (Redmi Note 5 in China instead of Redmi Note 5 Pro) and the same name for other country but for other device (Redmi Note 5 in India but instead of Redmi Note 5 Plus Global).
I read that this problem with nomenclatures will be solved.

Confirmed: Xiaomi won’t bring Redmi Note 7 Pro to rest of world
https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-pro-availability-968713/
Very disappointing. At least they gave us a 128 GB Note 7. I'm left wondering if I should grab one of those or import from China and suffer without LTE.
Looks like I'm getting the Mi 9 SE instead -_-
very disappointing Xiaomi, shame on you.
I dont know how can they come up with that sale strategy. This is the first phone they sub brand as redmi devices out of mi devices which possibly means they dont have enough money to make it on international market. So they sale it on india and china for now to gain money for the next redmi generation.
I don't give a crap about global version
I have R5+ chinese version and it works perfect with LTE, because in my country we don't use band 20 on the carrier i use
Well...
It's unfortunate, but still you could buy one directly from China or perhaps from other resellers.
This not true. I assume.

A few months too late, really strange move from Xiaomi : why didn't they launch it at the same time as the "Mi 9T"?? Plus, rebranding from Redmi to Xiaomi in Europe is a bit strange imho. Do they think we in Europe don't read the worldwide news? Additionally, they won't release the 8/256 version.
Btw, I wonder what will happen to the Mi 9 with a price that close...the real difference is the camera which seems better (to be honest even my Mi 8 takes better pics vs. K20 Pro).
Also I think its a little bit priced.
I'm not sure if I'll buy, long time waiting to be this difference.

You can import it from China (6/64 version) around 315 euros tax free and shipping included, and they're gonna sell it here for 430 euros? It will have a Global ROM for sure, lets see if its the same one as the India ROM (POCO launcher included) or not but still...
Btw i think if Europeans want to wait for a new phone they should wait for the Mi Mix 4. The 3rd was a bit of a flop because specs were too close to the Mi 8 which was great, lighter and cheaper but the Mix 4 specs will be spectacular according to rumors. Wait and see!

A lot of people doesn't want to import, and also the main problem is the warranty, people prefer to have a local store where they can go if the phone have an issue.
But anyway, for my part I will buy it on Aliexpress soon
If you want to push further the comparison, in the official Xiaomi China store, the 6+128gb is at +-290€

Xiaomi has already mentioned that if the phone comes with China firmware, it will be locked on China firmware. Only when the bootloader is unlocked it can be flashed to global firmware. This is the same with phones that come with global firmware

Thanks for confirming. Thats a bad policy. As long as the firmware is official, they should allow us to lock bootloader and use find device feature.

You shouldn't be buying phones that weren't meant for your country anyways. Xiaomi wants their chinese phones to be only sold in China and the global variants for outside of China.

As far as I can tell there has been no official launch of the phone, so nothing has been confirmed either way. There was the small announcement last week that it will be available in the Benelux region from the 20th, but it gave no specifics. Since then all we're seeing is the phone suddenly appearing for sale in various European websites. So far there doesn't appear to be any 8GB model being sold anywhere.
Even though the Mi 9 had 8/128 and 8/256 options in China, they were never made available on the global version, so it wouldn't be surprising if it turns out to be the same with this one.

So I have been wondering lately about the codename of my upcoming phone, Redmi Note 9 Pro. Yes, I just bought it (and it will be delivered here soon) and I just want to set it clear if 9s/9 Pro have the same Curtana codename? Because for some reason I also read there's another codename called Joyeuse. And it's confusing me. I bought my upcoming phone from Lazada here in the Philippines. And I just realized I bought a phone without specifying if it has CHINA or GLOBAL ROM, so that's my bad. This is the phone I ordered. (Also Image link doesn't seem to work)
It's probably joyeuse.
64mp camera is the joyeuse, that's what you have.

any explanations?
