Hi guys
I'm wondering if is possible to resize the system partition on Android.
On MIUI 9 there is 2.38Gb free in system. That's kinda waste of memory, since I won't use such free space there.
So, is this possible?
Heyyo, the issue is you need to format data via TWRP.
Please note formatting data WILL delete all data files so you will need to transfer your ROM and Gapps and such back onto the phone via a PC or USB drive.
Like this
https://i1.wp.com/www.99mediasector...17/09/twrp-format-data-min.jpg?resize=648,371
There is no way to resize any partition on the phone, only if there a bug on unbrick process.
To resize the partitions you need to make a LOT of changes on the phone. and making these changes can brick your phone forever.

I imagined that...
On MTK and Samsung phones is pretty easy to resize
I'll do some searches

I'll mark some apps as system and it's done

Are there any deep erasing apps out there that can zero the bytes or perform dod style erase methods? I'm trying to erase the internal memory (not the microsd) of the phone. How can I make sure its not recoverable when selling it?
Its just that it contains work related information that I wouldn't want someone trying to recover if they happen to be that type of person.
Ι guess, reflashing it should do the job, and then just mess around with install-uninstall applications, a lot!
The only way to recover data from phone memory if deleted is with taking phone apart and taking flash memory out(this includes melting down pins). And than put this flash on some other circut board.
Just so that you know how hard is it, enough for most people.
For exstremist what the poster before me said, writing and deleting many times. You could do that on rootet phone with some root explorer program. If you didn use custom ROMs you only need to take care of /data partition, if you did flash a bit DATA partition can move maybe(no sure) so you should do same for /system. Flashing ROM writes to some of system partition, the remainder fill it us with some trash files and to again
I heard 20 times is what makes it 100% FBI secure. But 2 times should make it 99.999% secure anyway
Edit: That 20 number is for hard drives with same special machines. I am not sure how it is with flash, maybe one rewrite makes it totaly unrecoverable already. If you only worried for softwere recovery once is enough.
I will also give an example. Suppose you have some critical info on your SD card. If you delete that info, you can't rest assured that your critical info has been deleted. Because system just shows it has been deleted. Until something else fills up the same sectors /space on your card, it wont be permanently deleted. But now, if you fill up your whole SD card with, say, videos and songs, then your critical info is really gone. Though simpler solution to do this is to format the SD card.
Same applies for internal memory. You must flash a new rom and fill the data space fully with other apps. Do it without activating/logging in your gmail. Once it's done, you can reflash it with wiping everything from recovery and give/sell to someone as a fresh phone.
In other words fill ur SD with trash,.
I haven't rooted the phone yet. If I do root just to flash a rom and fill space, will I be able to flash back the original rom and make it so that it was never rooted in the first place?
i wud "dd" all my phone's partition in recovery mode(manually mount them use df in normal mode to know wats mounted) and then flash stock rom using that kdz thing...
PS ..u cud also "dd" your sdcard using
dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sdb bs=5M count=1000
(/dev/sdb is assumed as your sdcard drive )
5M*1000=5000MB wiped multiply acc to your card's capacity

Yes flashing some original ROM with KDZ (there is a thread with instructions somewhere) makes it like it was from the factory.
You r not rooted. In this case:
1.factory reset.
2.install futile apps till your internal memory is full.
3.factory reset again and you are done.
is there any way to install apps without adding a google account and d/l from the market?
yes
download them to your pc
move them to your sd card and install them from there
it would b flashing the new rom alover, of flashing the lg original firmware.
to flash another rom your phone must be rooted and have custom recovery
thanks guys, I flashed the stock rom with kdz then installed futile apps via adb until I couldn't install anymore (adb error when phone hit the 20mb mark). One hard reset later, I think its good to go.
shredroid
i have another gmail address that i use for signing up to websites that might start sending me junk. after ive reset the phone i just add that account to the phone and can get access to the market that way without messing up my other main google account settings... then use Shredroid to give the internal memory a good wipin'.
i never tried the other way but using shredroid sounds way quicker that installing apps until youve filled the internal memory, especially if you have a phone with a lot of it

is there actually a dd binary in recovery mode / android at all?
Hi I am using the Galaxy Player 4.0 (intl) and this is how my internal memory is laid out (check the attached zip file).
I wanted to ask, is this normal because I am pretty sure it isn't and I probably messed it up somehow will all the flashes I did to it.
Aren't the "two weird partitions" supposed to be merged?
Anyone? They only thing you have to do is either download DiskInfo, run it and tell me if you have the same layout or go to Task Manager > Storage and check your partitions from there.

This is how it should be there's no worry.
The first weird partition is the "internal" sd card where when you plug your player, you can put on stuff there.
The second one is the /data partition which is needed by the OS and the applications to put out their data related stuff.
As those devices are pre-ICS ones, those 2 partitions aren't merged and I honestly consider it a plus (if someone messes /data, he or she doesn't mess all his or her internal space.) The same thing applies to the 5.0 as well. and pre-ICS devices.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I was concerned because I tried to install CyanogenMod 11 (by following your guide) but it had an error that said that I did not have enough space so I thought that my partitions were messed up but I guess I did something wrong so I am going to try again.
Hey everyone
I have recently bought an android tablet with KitKat and 16 GB internal storage.
But there were just 1gb available memory for installing apps and the remaining 11 GB were USB storage.
As I didn.t like this I tried to partition flash memory with mini partition tool wizard home(or sth like that I donno the name exactly).
I have partitioned the flash memory as following: 3gb for internal storage(fat32), remaining memory for USB storage and 8mb as ext2( I completed this after a tutorial).
Everything was done ,I applied and then I reboot my tablet. When I entered link2sd said that cannot detect my partition. When I get to storage information I realized that I still had 1gb internal memory, but 445mb USB storage. I was a bit panicked so I tried to wipe data, but didn't work. When I tried to repartition the flash memory with mini part tool , the computer couldn't connect to my tablet storage.
I have lost my internal memory(most of it) and now I want to recover it as it was stock.
Plsssss help me I have root access and I think there is a way to fix with root explorer but I don't no it so hopefully you guys understand my issue and help me.
Thanks

Are you rooted?
Edit: nvm you are I see.
You have to use an external SD card for link2sd, does not work with internal storage.

Why would you repartition your storage to a windows (fat32) partition? This is a Linux based system running on ext4. You may just have killed that partition without redoing your device from the boot loader up.

You will need some sort of default rim update with the correct partitions. It will wipe your device if you can find one. Which depends on the device. You. At have corrupted it beyond any repair you can do. Check the oem site as you. Ever stated what device it is.

OK don't take this the wrong way but you really seem to have no idea what your doing. No you can not fix a partition issue by replacing some system files. You messed the base system up. I would go to the oem site and forums and see if you can find something that will help you. Basically you will have to flash a rom from the boot loader. This should fix your issue. But with it being a minor brand device you may spend a long time finding it but I wish ukulele luck.

Oem stand for original equipment manufacturer. A google search may find it as I have never even heard let alone seen this device.
Now if/when you get it fixed I would advice you to do your proper research before doing something that could leave your device bricked and void your warranty. Age has nothing to do with it. My sons are the same age and know to spend a few hours or even days researching an issue before trying anything. Flashing your device is not an easy, no risk thing to do. It holds many risks as you have found out. I would read up on Linux a bit

I know age has nothing to do ,it was about I didn't no things like I need to reflash device to restore partition. I have great experience with android and flashing Roms as I have plenty of devices. I change Roms weekly tasting their features. Whatever my dad is working in it but he's on windows.
I have found a possible solution to my prblm after few hrs of googling== I found with disk info that I didn't make any partition, their just unmounted. Nows da big question: is it a way to mount them ( I found out that I could merge partition kernel source- or srh like that -)
My tablet is a copy rebranded after onda 711s==allwiner a31
Hello.
My Father has a Galaxy S II , and he is always complaining that his phone is low on space.
The phone is 16GB and has another 16GB MicroSD card.
Most of his on-board integrated 16GB is free, and his MicroSD card is almost completely empty, the problem is that this phone has a very small Android OS 2GB partition, and every time he installs an app it always leaves something on the OS partition (even after manually moving every possible app to SD using the built in Move To SD, and placing all photos and videos on MicroSD). So even with very few Apps installed his phone is always begging for space since essentially he can only make use of 2GB of his 32GB of storage.
So I have considered maybe the best way to fix this his issue, is to install a Custom ROM on his phone, which only contains 1 Single Partition for the integrated 16GB of storage space, and another partition for the 16GB of MicroSD storage.
Thus eliminating the limited 2GB OS partition. (basically make it like every new Android phone since the galaxy S2)
I have never used a custom Android ROM so this is new to me ( i am more familiar with PC's).
So my primary question before I start looking for info and procedures on rooting and custom roms for this phone is as follows:
IS it possible to even install a new android OS on this phone which will have only one primary partition, or is this phone forever destined to only work as it is now with a small 2GB OS partition? In other words is there a hardware limitation which prevents this phone from addressing more than 2GB for its OS partition?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can repartition the phone using a modified PIT file. You will be able to increase the Data partition to avoid the "out of space" when installing or updating apps. The tradeoff is to have a smaller internal SD partition.
I have done it to my S 2.
There is a thread with clear instructions on how to do it. You will have to learn to use Odin, but that will be very useful as long as you have Samsung phones.
Here is the link: [MOD][GUIDE]Partition your internal memory for better App management (Pit Files)

Thanks for the info.
Would it not be easier to just format the phone and start from scratch by installing a new custom Android OS ?
Will starting from scratch with a new OS allow me to set my partitions (just like on a PC) ?
Thanks again.

No. You must use the Odin / Pit file to modify partition sizes.
And yes, that assumes you will flash a new rom.

It's not Android that makes an external SD-card ( by default formatted as FAT32 - so readable by any cardreader ) in part or in whole unreadable: It's you, the user , when you decide Android should use external SD-card's storage capacity in part or in whole as system memory. This adopted memory uses the Ext4 file system and 128-bit AES encryption.
