Looking for support / feedback Note 8 - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey all. Long time XDA member! So I VERY recently started a YouTube channel and I just uploaded a note 8 review. I own the device (obviously) and I love it. I tried to remain fair and unbiased tho. I hope you'll take a few min and check it out. I also hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not, just let me know and I'll move it. I'm looking for constructive feedback. I appreciate the help. I'm kinda new at this so... Be gentle. Haha

Skygunner, contact gary asap

Hey skygunner, Gary wrote me back. Remember when I told you I told him your story on what's been going on with u. He said he wants to help you out. He said he sent you a pm. Also said its hard to believe you went through so many primes but he wants to still help you out. You said you have reciepts n all that so you good. So if you possibly want that Prime you looking for, hit him up Asap.
Mods can close this. Just getting the word out to him. Couldn't find him to pm him.
Did you ask him if I can beta test the TF700?? Ok close this thread!

Damn, I forgot. Lmao I would want to test it also. Actually I'd want the smaller 7in. That has the tegra3 in it.
Go For It
Skygunner,
Go for it. I've been working with Gary, and he (and especially the Asus Technical Product Manager he turned me over to) have been both very helpful.
Thanks guys. I just sent him a PM.

So long my friends, and thanks for all the fish.

Well, I just sold my view in the market place. I'm sure I'll still dev on it, but I can't give a reason for keeping it around. got 230 for it with LNIB conditions + the case. Anyway, thanks for your time guys. I'm sure Globatron can keep everyone floating in this forum. I'll still be on IRC though since I made the channel. enjoy your device everyone!

New Beginnings: Dev Appreciation Thread

I've seen these in other parts of the community...
Given the recent events, I believe the creed going forward should be "show some love".
While I don't feel it's limited to just devs, as members make XDA go in circles also, I do think the devs here need to know they're loved.
That said, I'd like to start by saying thanks to JoelZ, DMeadows, Scott, Con and a non-dev, dev, Marine.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but these are the guys that come to mind first...
I have made it a point in my XDA history not to post unless it's necessary or I'm trying to be informative. I generally stay on-topic etc so count this as an exception, lol.
Anyways, guys, you've all been so helpful to me, on a personal level. I've pm'ed a couple of you on various things and you've always been quick and genuinely helpful in your responses and that is awesome.
It's because of you I will be hanging onto my rezound for awhile, as you've made a few months not having CM a little less painful with all of your hard work, friendliness and enthusiasm.
I encourage other users to post their feelings, remarks, comments to their favorite dev(s) and be let them hear how awesome-sauce they are.
Thanks again
Sincerely,
This Guy
To My Fellow Devs!

This is my personal thanks to all the Developers on here. Without you, we wouldn't have the great things we do now. I want you to be reminded that your hard work doesn't go unrecognized, and hopefully you can continue to deal with us, the people, and still provide us with awesome products. If you read this, hit thanks.
Edit: There are so many others who deserve thanks and appreciation. For example, andybones is one of them, who is always helping out those in need. Also, people like us, who like to help others as well, and keep our patience intact when times get tough.
Special Note: Protekk, I'm sorry for the ones who drove you away from the Rezound community. I didn't pay attention to any sort of progress you had going, but I'm sure it was great since you have done a lot as a developer. I doubt you'll ever read this, but if you did, just know a lot of members feel bad as to what happened. Leave your legacy, Protekk.
Don't forget Newt, his ril fix was impressive. Thanks to everyone that helps folks around here. We have a lot of folks new to Modding in this forum. Lets be patient and help one another so we can all get more from and enjoy our device.
One thing I notice is that a Dev will get 20 posts of people praising them for their work, clicking the thanks button, and then one person out of that 20 says something dumb or is unappreciative and that is the one that gets the attention, and the Dev getting irritated about it. I sucks that there are a few unappreciative people out there, but I think the Devs need to weigh that against the huge majority of appreciative and thankful people.
The devs here do great, amazing work and deserve all the thanks they get.

This, exactly.

All of these guys are absolutely amazing at what they do. Thanks for the hard work. I appreciate all you guys do to make my phone better.
dont forget about the lurkers like myself. I don't say much, but i always hit thanks on a helpful post or anything i D/L. I don't say very much at all but I would like to thank all of the people out there who make this phone way awesomer than it already is. I'm not gonna drop names, but if youve contributed even in a small way, THANKS! (yes i just used the word awesomer)
I just wanted to bump this to the top so it is easily seen. I have modded multiple devices, and can say that the rezound has been the one with the longest learning curve. Our forum is junked up because we, as a community, have allowed it to happen. Instead of one newb learning, and posting a definitive guide on how to do some of the stuff, or a simple walk thru explanation, we have twice the threads. Before anyone jumps on me to do it, or that is why we need to search, XDA search sucks. I don't know enough to do this. I am still confused about the multiple hboots, and would want someone who knows their stuff, so would you. If you look at our stickies, they are all old. I have been on forums where all of the important info is in the top 2 stickies. Hell, Fattire helped the nook color forum learn how to build cm9 from source. (should check it out, that thread is amazing)So Veterans attacking newbs has got to stop. Newbs attacking Vets, and Dev's has got to stop. Attacking Marcus has got to stop. If we tried helping people instead of wasting all of our time holding them down, we would evolve as a community. I am not harassing, or blaming anyone. Thank you to all of those that blaze the trail ahead of us. Thank you to Nils, Joel,Bored, Newt, DMeadows, Protekk, paulie vicious, Con, and everybody else that has contributed to the Rezound. I may post here again to bump it up because this is one of the most important threads in general.
Edit: also want to thank all of the kernel developers, themers, and newbs.

Andybones!!!!
Just saw your post in the other thread... that sucks, please don't be a stranger, you helped me a lot too... one of 2 XDA people I've ever bothered to Gtalk with, thanks for all you've done sir
Another bump. I have mostly been quiet unless I thought my contributions could help. I think the devs generally get the thanks they deserve, but not always.
Thanks, Scott, Con, antp, graymonkey44, NilsP, Newt, and SO many more. Don't let the negative get to you. There are SO many people here who never post a word who appreciate your work.
And to those of you who take it as your personal responsibility to jump on or flame noobs or anyone, just chill, ok?
I believe we can all be civil to one another and still have fun and teach/learn.
Thanks again to everyone who puts their time in and makes this a better place.

I'm a big fan of many of the Devs here. Some I met in the Incredible forums. All of them are brilliant at what they do. Joel, Newt, bored, Nils, you guys are my personal favorites.
Some devs here are more humble and down-to-earth than others. Some are total head cases! LOL!
Nils is a prime example of a Dev who does amazing work, but doesn't make a spectacle of himself by obnoxiously tooting his own horn. But you can tell by his legion of loyal ROM flashers that his work is top shelf. He is very patient, helpful, and probably the best of the bunch when it comes to troubleshooting and technical support. Obviously, I'm a big fan. He's a class act.
Some folks here can't resist telling us over and over about how great they are, and it can get a little tedious. If your work is good, your 'thanks' meter, positive feedback, and donation balance should reflect that and be ego boost enough. Let the masses tell you how good you are. It'll carry more weight.
If we all tried a little harder to keep it classy and respect each other, this place might attract devs instead of running them off.
Thanks,
BBEgo
A whole lotta thanks son!
I do appreciate all of the Devs for putting real life things on hold to provide us those dope roms on their own time and dime. Words cannot express how grateful we should all be that these guys/gals put up a lot of their time and knowledge for us.
The least we can do is give a "Thanks" and search the Dev thread BEFORE you ask a question because 9/10 it has already been address/answered. Do not make your first post in a thread "When's the next update" or "Can you fix this" or "Why doesn't this work". If we were to do the simple things like that the Devs would be much happier.
Lastly, I would also like to point out there are many of us users who also spend quite a bit of time on this forum to help other users with the bit of knowledge they have. I think those guys/gals also deserve a shout out as well because they also do help make things a slight bit easier for the real deal Developers.
Just sayin
Favor
When I was young, when someone did something for you that they didn't HAVE to do, that was called a "favor". And the one lesson that I learned early in life is that you don't question a favor - you accept it. You say thank you. And just because you got one favor, don't assume you are going to get another one. You aren't "entitled" to anything as the result of a favor, nor does the person that did the favor HAVE to keep doing favors for you. He or she deserves your gratitude, if not a good deal more.
As far as I'm concerned these Devs, Themers, Contributors, Helpers, etc., are doing us, the Users, Flashers, Lurkers, etc., a FAVOR. Accept the favor, thank the person doing the favor, but don't question the favor.
Just sayin'......

EVO 3D user here. Debating new ROM, SGII, or iPhone 5

Hopefully this will not be closed or bashed! I need some help here, I'm trying to decide between the GS3 or jumping ship to the iPhone 5. I'm disappointed in the iPad, feel like I will feel locked down with the iPhone but I'm ready for a change... I feel like the Galaxy won't be that big of a change for me usability wise, just performance and hardware upgrades so I'm also interested in anyones experiences with Jean Bean ROMs for the EVO 3Ds to make it most like the Galaxy at least for me to decide about the jump to iOS. Hope I can get some help and not just guys in their mother's basements trying to start an argument. Thanks in advance guys!

I don't know much about the iPhone 5, I've experienced iOS6 myself (obviously not much different from iOS5) and it seems a bit smoother. I honestly thought the GS3 was sub-par build quality wise. it felt too lightweight and slipped through my hands easily. I would google both and make a comparison for yourself. Because posting the same thread 3 times, once in the development section trying to start a flame war, and then twice here, is going to get you infracted from hell. I'm not a mod, but I can tell through these course of events you won't last here very long if you keep these kinda actions up. Not trying to be an ass, just giving you a friendly heads-up so you don't get in too much trouble. Hope I helped a little bit
I don't consider asking you (even with the "p" word) to read the forum rules and post in the correct forum "bashing", but now that you have I will try to help.
Here's a pretty unbiased review of the two phones, and here's a side-by-side feature comparison. And one more review with some sample pics from each device.
As far as simulating the SGS3 on an Evo 3D goes, that will be pretty hard to do since Samsung uses TouchWiz and HTC uses Sense, but if you want to try there is some information on getting TouchWiz for the Evo 3D in this post. The TouchWiz launcher on top of one of the CM10 ROM's in the Development Forum may be the closest you are going to get to simulation of the SGS3, but there are so many other differences that you probably would be better off going to a Sprint store or BestBuy and trying the real phones hands on. Since you can't replace iOS on an the iPhone with another operating system, it's probably best to compare the two in their stock configurations.

You did help thanks... I posted more than once because different crowds read different sections and I wanted the view point from all of them. The mod is pretty much saying just find out for yourself. I am sick of the way my EVO 3D works even with a replacement, I work in web/media in sports and I use my phone a lot and have to decide quickly I don't have time or all the knowledge to test every ROM myself LOL

Thanks I appreciate the help, wasn't really lashing out directly at you, I'm sorry but like I said in the other reply I depend on my phone and the apps for my living so I need to decide something soon.
Well also, you should also realize, that xda is a community of over 4,000,000 users, and that the mods already have enough to deal with, and the last thing they need is a triple post on top of their day. A few minutes of patience is all you need before you get an answer. There are several people who check the q&a forums very often (ramjet, flashallthetime, coal686, and myself, just to name a few) and its not like you won't get an answer, its only when you post the same thing over and over that irritates people, especially when you violate the rules on purpose to try and get the answer you want (thread in the dev forum). So like I said, just post once, and check back every so often, and you'll guaranteed get your answer. Obey the rules, that's all any of us here on xda of of people
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
What I would suggest is go to each individual forum to which phone you would like as your new daily drive and poke around to what actual users are saying, as for iphone 5, I would admit to being anti apple. Issues with maps on ios 6 is a huge issue, it could spell the downward spiral for the iphone?
( Don't ask me for help, as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh!!!)

Go to Q & A in the stickies under ask mod any question and that gives you some answers.it is a very hard decision to go with any new phone, research on any forum is your best bet, actual users will have both points of views, bad and good, pro's and con's

Would you mind linking a couple of the websites with user forums that you admin so we can take a look? Maybe we can learn something from seeing how user questions and issues are addressed on other sites.
I know this post doesn't directly address your questions in the OP, but I've already given you as much information as I have on that, so maybe you wouldn't mind sharing something that might benefit the rest of us?
Thanks in advance.

Actually here is my full response to u since u insisted on calling me out in a public forum
No I'm saying learn to search learn try things out on your own. Make up ur own mind on what's best for you. Ask for help when your stuck.
Your saying...spoon feed me everything I want so I don't spend my time looking for myself and oh btw I'm gonna ask a question in the dev section cause it'll get seen more there. Go look in the dev section. How many question threads do u see in there. Did you look at the stickies. The one that reads "must read before u create a thread" or did u think u r special and not subject to the rule.
Obviously you thought that your above them cause you told people in ur thread not to get butt hurt cause u posted a thread where people would see it.
So who makes sense here. On xda we do not spoon feed members. We help members that run into issue. We encourage members to seek out answers on their own. There is a ton of info to get educated on. Use it. Then contribute. Its not that hard.

Lets keep this thread on topic I'm pretty sure thats a rule somewhere... spoon fed or not you guys should be nice and help educate someone especially if they are thinking about leaving android. Going through everything on your own is overwhelming and contradicting so many time especially when you don't have time to. What would be you opinion, you really haven't even clearly given it, I'm sorry if I have overlooked that. What do you think I should do if I am sick of the HTC experience, give the new EVO a try or go to GS3? who knows you might even also like the iPhone?

We answered your question in the first 3 or 4 posts. We told you to try each phone for yourself, and do some snooping around and see what you want to try for the EVO 3D. I don't know what else you want us to tell you. And side note, just because you admin other forums with more members, it doesn't give you the right to be a **** on our forums. Nobody wants to help someone who sets themselves higher than everyone else. We answered your question. Try each phone, and look around in the forums and decide for yourself. There's not much else our community can suggest

Again u want to be spoon fed. We don't do that here. Again search for your answers. I understand ur time is precious but ur not the center of the universe. Everyone's time is precious

Ok after reading all 2 pages, I think I feel cheated.......I will NEVER get my time back! LOL
allofthepeople, here's a suggestion! (hopefully you read all over it and your ADD doesn't kick in)
If you're going to come into a public forum like this and expect people to help you then it helps to follow the rules.
1. Going back and forward with a moderator, will get you NO WHERE!! I don't know how many idiots like yourself I see a day that think they will win an argument with a moderator. Not saying you can't reason with them BUT the way you're acting, is not going to happen.
2. AGAIN, just in case you didn't read #1...This ex-iPhone user, junior high school **** where you think the world owes you something attitude is getting old. Follow the rules and stop geting butt hurt about everything that happens on the internet....GROW UP!
3. Take time from your superstar job (media/sports aka camera man) and go into every thread like the rest of us and decide what ROM is best for you. Also there's this thing called YouTube......you can watch videos there and see as much reviews as you want about any phone.
4. At the end of the day, XDA doesn't need yet another thread from yet another self entitled member asking what's the best ROM or what phone should I get. 6 months to a year when you decide "I don't like this phone" you're going to be the one stuck with it, SO why do you think our opinion should matter??
Oh and if you want this SGS3 feel or whatever.....go find Devil Toast (CM9) and download the add-ons and launcher here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701961 and enjoy!
[EDIT]
I see you're a bit of a spammer and maybe have a reading problem (most likely that ADD kicking in) because you opened up 2 threads before this, both of which got closed down.....consider yourself lucky that the moderators haven't sent you on vacation I've seen people banned for less!

Could have just said the last part lol and I'm not an ex-iPhone user, never had one thats the point. I am not the one getting butt hurt lol I have read articles and watched videos. Was just trying to get a consensus from supposed educated people who might have had the same experiences I did and could give a little more light on it than I found in the other posts but I guess thats being "spoon fed". Please people stop trying to argue with me and if you don't like my thread then don't reply!!!!!!!
actually im gonna close this thread as the question has been answered and the thread is non longer needed. This is your last warning to listen to what a moderator tells you.

Maybe the other 94 views didn't see anything worth saying thanks for like myself. It would be different if you made the theme yourself but you simply posted a theme you found on Google play. Congratulations. I personally think that theme sucks. It's bright and very plain. Looks very similar to stock. I've got 3 different themes I use on substranium. Should I make 3 new threads and expect thanks? Lol
Seriously, Im not trying to be an a hole. I just didn't think you posted anything that merits a thanks. Actually I don't even think this merits it's own post. And then you coming back on all butt hurt that nobody thanked your post was just lame af and kinda makes you look like a d bag.
Again I'm not speaking for anyone but myself and it's nothing personal, you could be cool as can be, I don't know you...but that's just how I thought your post came across

Lol… And you've been on here since 2012??? Look at the Dev. thread and see how many thanks they got for either making a Rom or putting up instructions on how to flash a GSI to our devices and answer lots of questions and help in there spare time!!
Very little my friend! Take a look! And as for it being a Subsratum theme means nothing except as I posted that I haven't seen any themes on here yet! And thought it would be a great idea for posting one so others on stock that cant get Pie to work, could atleast have the Pie look! You know, that New firmware that we are not getting Lmao! And further more, ive seen in threads that some were having problems getting substatum to work!!! No I didnt make a Theme myself, but I took the time to put up a thread for others to see and help HELP them if they had questions on how to install or anything for that matter! So, yes a thanks goes a long way when your doing this on your spare time!!!
Ive been on here for awhile now too and I had all the Samsung Note series and alot of the S 6,7,8 plus series and I have Made Roms, Mods, THEMES Etc. and have helped many!!!
So, before you respond to something, maybe take a look at what they have done for XDA community in there free spare time and support, not put Down my brotha!!!!!!!
And I do believe this is your post
"so the first guy to successfully get 2.3 to boot on a Sidekick only has 20 thanks on the op. Thats kinda sad. I know it's a long long way from being a daily driver but much THANKS windxixi. You are forever a Sidekick legend in my book. Respect"
Bro, you're killing me! ?
I have over 600 post with over 450 + thanks and I don't know how many been thanked! And you have 44 thanks since 2012 LMFAO… RESPECT

Sad thing is that more and more Great Developers are leaving XDA because of lack of RESPECT, PEOPLE ASKING FOR ETA'S CONSTANTLY AND COMPLAINING INSTEAD OF THANKING!
And you dont have to thank someone only if you use there Rom or Mod or Theme! Just cause you ended up on there thread and liked it, but maybe didnt use it at that time!
Fellow XDA's, these guys do this for free and in there spare time and we are losing them fast! I posted that comment on my thread because I dont want to clutter up someone elses! But ive been looking at Roms to Flash and see no Love for the guys that work hard to bring you these wondetful roms, mods etc. So, dont be like this guy (theusualDBag) in the post above mine who has thanked 0nly 44 times in 6+ years! Its only a button, but means alot!

Oh you got way more thanks them me. Congrats. Sorry I've been too busy living life to care about thanks. I'm more concerned about taking care of my mother with cancer, my father that's had 3 strokes, and that my bank account goes up every time my face is shown on the video Billboard in front of Harrahs on the Vegas strip. Hack im more concerned with the fact that I travel so much I don't even know what city, state, or time zone I'm in half the time when I wake up. What I'm not concerned about is how many thanks I have on xda in however many years. Do the 4 guys in my inbox from the last week that I've helped recover their bricked phones who actually said thanks count? Id prolly have more then you if I begged for thanks on every post as well. Or maybe I should get on Twitter and beg them to come on xda and thank me because I know I have way more followers then you do. I agree with most everything else you say, the developers do deserve more cred. But the developers I talk to do it because they love to do it, not because some dork hit a thanks button. None of this still doesn't change the fact that you didn't develope **** or that i still think that youre a ***** and I could drop you with an open hand smack. When you do something worth thanking, I'll hit the button. But congrats on having more thanks then me. I'm sure your mom and boyfriend are so proud of you.
