Should I update to US99810C? I'm currently on 10B. - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I have the US Cellular version v30. Should I update? I don't want to ruin the (TINY) possibility of any potential exploit to root/unlock.

If you can find a KDZ of your current 10B firmware, you could always go back to it using this method:

If you can't, then it's your decision.

I cannot update to lollipop

I tried to check updates through the phone and it said my phone is up to date. I also try the Verizon upgrade assistant and it checks the phone's info but it doesn't give me the option to upgrade. I am no Android Version 4.4.2 and on software version VS98510B. I just bought this phone on craigslist. Help me out please?
Root it, install and update TWRP, and JasmineROM. Boom.
I would rather not root the phone.
No harm in rooting it, only benefit as half the people I talk with don't even like Lollipop, especially not the broken VZW version. With root, at least YOU can choose when the phone YOU bought and own with YOUR hard earned money is upgraded. Just my 2c. Otherwise I don't know why it would be doing that. Keep in mind if you upgrade to the broken Verizon LP build and don't like it you'll be rooting anyways to downgrade back.

Use the 23C_01 KDZ with LG Flash Tool 2014 in Windows. Have the Verizon specific LG drivers installed first.

Sometimes when downgrading to 10B you will not be able to update. So KDZ to 12B and then take OTA.

How do I get the 12B KDZ? I can't find it by google. What is OTA? Over the air? How do I do that?
12B KDZ should be in this forum... somewhere....
OTA = Over the Air
If you are on an unmodified, unrooted stock with stock recovery, it should trigger automatically. If not, got to Settings and have it check for an update. Pretty large files, may wish to make sure that you are on wifi.
Mines the same way on 4.4.2 and says up to date my version is vs98510a tho...
Most likely if you aren't getting ota, you are not using it on verizon. Like me lol

thats not entirely correct.
if you are not getting updates, most likely some uninformed person flashed the phone with the 10b kdz, which is not on the official update path, and why you cant get updates.
use one of the return to stock threads in the general forum to fix it, and use any other kdz or tot but not the 10b kdz or you will be right back stuck again.

Rooted Lollipop to Marshmallow

Can I use LGUP to flash the .kdz for marshmallow over my rooted lollipop image using upgrade option in LGUP? Yes I want to lose root. I miss android pay to much.
Yes, as long as it's the whole .kdz image and not the update it will do a complete wipe of your phone to factory.
Is there a non OTA method to get to MM from LL?

these links still good?

RS988 KDZ or TOT pre v11c download that works

Does anyone have a firmware link for the RS988....im looking for pre V11C files.
I'd be willing to give you a tip for it!
Jesus, are you there?
hahah

None of those are pre 11c. I can not say that those files even exist except for at LG and they never released anything besides 11c kdz for the USA rs988. Even so i don't think you could flash without bricking your phone because the anti roll back number for those is 0 and anything 11c and up has anti roll back of 1.

Ah sry i misread it thought was asking for 11c kdz
I flashed the RS98810d_00_0716_ARB01.kdz from that link and then proceeded to flash back to 11C from that link and then updated to 11D and stopped since I wanted to remain on Marshmallow for Xposed. However I wouldn't want to remain on 10D since it is Brightpoint and not what you want to be on with a non-brightpoint phone. Why are you wanting to be below 11C? You can't unlock and root your phone unless you are on 11D.

Did I make a mistake?

Just bought a G3 to replace my broken S4. I was looking forward to custom roms, but..... I have the 985K variant. Anything I can do?

Nope. No way to downgrade to 10b which is a requirement in order to install a custom recovery. Your only option is to KDZ flash the 47A image and root with King root to at least root the phone. But, that's it. There is no way to install TWRP on Marshmallow for the G3 so no custom ROMs.

Actually, how do you identify a VS985K? My G3 has "VS985W" on the tag under the battery. There is no K present. In "Hardware Info" the Model number is listed as VS985 4G and the Software info gives build number as MRA58K and Software as VS98548A.
Maybe I don't have a K model after all?

No, you don't have a model K. The W stands for White, being that you have a white model of the G3.
Now, there are some known cases where even those that are not labelled "K" still cannot downgrade to 10b because of some update in the firmware somewhere, but those are rare cases that I know of. So, you might be okay, but there is no way of knowing. I don't know if you have the updated firmware and attempt to downgrade to 10b if you would go into bulk mode, which can be fixed, but is much tougher to do so. So, you flash at your own risk.
I got it working with a CM13 nightly. Works amazing over stock.

Root and Safetynet pass

The main thing stopping me from rooting and flashing a custom ROM is tripping Safetynet and not being able to use certain apps. I also don't want to brick my phone or lose software features like i did when I rooted my Sony Z3. Has anyone had any issues with Safetynet and root?
Model Number : LG-H930
I've attached my phone details.
Thank you for your help.

You won't lose any features "like Sony" if you stay on rooted stock firmware. Or stock based ROMs. I specifically address that at the the top of the WTF instructions -- about Sony. LG is not Sony
You won't trip safety net if you use Magisk. You're asking questions long answered in the WTF thread.

That's good to know, does my device meet the standards to root? I know I'm being abit paranoid, but I love this phone and I don't want to lose it lol

Yes. You have H930 on Oreo, so very easy for you.
Almost all V30/V30+/V30S on the planet can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, with the exception of the T-Mobile H932. But some are harder than others. The easiest are the ones already with fastboot flash commands and already on Oreo KDZ: US998, H930, H930DS.
For instance, the other North America variants have to Frankenstein convert (at least temporarily) to US998 for bootloader unlock and root.
