Turn Off System Update for Oreo? [Using Nougat] - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

Hi, I am currently on android 7.0 and I am receiving a system update for Android 8.0. I've heard about performance/battery issues and I don't want to upgrade. How can I turn off the system update notification? I have auto update off but if I do anything to disable the notification, it comes back after reboot (and actually downloads the update automatically)
I am not rooted but I will consider root if it's my only option.
Thanks,

you can not turn off the notification since the device is not rooted.
but you can goto about >> settings>>about>>softwareupdate and on top right settings and someting DONOT download automatically option, Select that and atleast the 1.2 gb wont get downloaded and stored in your device cache!
yes 8.0 on X has horrible battery life and more over on battery saver mode, the screen flicker/lags more than it used to on 7.0
btw, you shoul consider rooting it. (its a long process starts from downgrading to android 6 in order to save your drmkeys but honestly its worth it).
on rooted device magisk on battery saving modules does wonder ( i am on android 7.1.1 )

Do you have a link to an guide that's easily to follow? I tried looking into rooting guides here but the instructions seem scattered and all over the place. Or a video helps too.
Thanks,

Both YasuHamed and me have written a detailed guide about this. I didn't mention how to downgrade, though

kinda late - just stumbled across this thread - did you find any answers? Do you still own the G700?
I still have it... No confirmation for the kitkat and huawei didnt update the emotion ui... So i put toghether emui 2 and the new weather app and widget and all working pretty good for now... Huawei sucks on updates for the overseas phones or models... Common a 1 year old quad core 2 gb ram with no kitkat? :banghead:

Yep, sadly it looks like as there won't be any (official) Kitkat update at all for the G700. So as long as there won't be a dev with some time to port one we'll stuck with Jellybean - from the hardware side it would be perfectly capable of Lollipop as well
-- EDIT --
Do you have any more details about the mods you did?
I just root my phone and replace the launcher widget and weather apk from emui 2.0 with root explorer give proper permissions and ok... Just search for emui 2.0 apk on p6 forum...

Nothing really new - besides that there now exists an official CM11 version for a different phone with the same Mediatek chipset Let's see how that goes. Huawei seems to be the one to blame now as Mediatek rolls out the source needed to build 4.4.
But did you manage to install CWM already? If not: I saw a few similar guides with a relatively complicated method (flash stock again with a bigger recovery partition, factory reset, flash CWM, root again) and the installation failed for me many times (bootloop) although I already had that version of the stock ROM installed. Most probably this was a result of not doing the factory reset - I just didn't want to.
Luckily I stumbled across this thread which I did put on hold first as there hasn't been too much information - same for the page where that thread links to.
But in the end I didn't care and kicked my doubts - and it worked perfectly: CWM installed without any loss of data.
Just to make sure the links remain available I'll quote it again:

You'll need to turn off FRP Lock.
You do that in Developer Options. First, you'll have to turn on Developer Options, if you haven't already. To turn on Developer Options:
Settings > General > About Device. Click on Build Number several times until you see the message that Developer mode is now turned on.
Now, go back up one level and you should see Developer Options.
On the list of options under Developer Options, make sure the check box next to OEM unlock is set. This will turn off the FRP Lock that you see on the Download screen.
You should be good to go.

It fails because SM-G900T3 yo uhave is different a bit from from SM-G900T. I have the same model you have and followed the instructions here successfully:

Yes, turn on the OEM Unlock. This will allow you to flash a non-stock Rom, and also root your phone. If that is off, then you can only flash stock ROMs and you can't root.

There is no rooting difference between the 900T and the 900T3. The real difference is in the firmware.
To root my 900T3,
1) I copied the SuperSU file to my SD card.
2) I flashed TWRP using ODIN
3) Used TWRP to Install the SuperSU .zip file.
The files you have listed in your original post should work to root your phone.
I had to reflash my firmware the other day, and after doing so I re-rooted my phone.
I used the following:
TWRP 2.8.7
ODIN v3.09
BETA-SuperSu-2.74-2-20160519174328.zip
But, your versions should work.
Rob
Make sure you try it with Odin 3.09, anything later than that doesn't appear to work with the T3.

I don't remember where I got Odin 3.09 from, but it's not hard to find. I thought at first that I wasn't going to be able to root, but it turned out to be an Odin compatibility issue.
Yes, I'm running Nougat now. I ran the stock roms for a while and liked them, but I was looking for a better way of controlling the LED brightness at night and decided to try a CM-based rom. Resurrection Remix seemed to be the best of the bunch, and it turned out to be a LOT better than stock. You probably think your Marshmallow Samsung rom isn't laggy, and neither did I until I tried RR. I like Marshmallow, but the Nougat interface (notifications, etc) is better. What I do now is flash the updates from Samsung to get the latest modem/firmware, then flash or restore the Nougat rom.
Marshmallow to Lollipop 5.1.1 on T3?

If you're going back to Lollipop from either MM or Nougat, you're doing something wrong! Lollipop is the worst Android release to date, imo (I've used every version of Android since 2.3). I'm guessing your complaint is with the LG or Samsung flavours of 6.x & 7.x? In retrospect, it's obvious that Lollipop was a half-baked transition between the excellent KitKat and the even more excellent Marshmallow. I don't know why you can't flash, but some bootloaders are locked (although in your case OEM unlock would seem to suggest otherwise). My T3 doesn't have the OEM unlock option, btw. My very strong suggestion would be to try different versions of Odin & stock firmware until you find a combination that works, followed by flashing some variant of Lineage (I use Resurrection Remix which, judging by your signature, may suit you). I resisted an AOSP-based rom for the longest time because of years of putting up with proprietary driver interface problems when using a non-OEM-based rom, but on the GS5 all those issues appear to have been solved. My phone is more responsive than a GS7 running TW, the battery life is significantly better, I have more customization options than I can shake a stick at, and I'm on the latest version of Android (7.1.2) so I have all the features and security patches. Unless you have some pressing need to use an app that requires the Samsung framework, there's absolutely no good excuse for being on a TW rom.

So the locked bootloader is the culprit? I guess they started locking bootloaders with this T3 model?
I wonder if there is a firmware package that has bootloader removed. Or if 5.1.1 stock can be flashed without flashing bootloader. I suppose that won't work when talking downgrade...

1.) Turn off the phone. Hold down Volume Up + Home + Power until you see a little Android guy. It will say Applying System Update or something like that possibly, and just let it do it's thing until a menu comes up.
2.) Select "Apply update from ADB". You can scroll using the volume buttons and select using the power button.
3.) Make sure you have ADB and the proper drivers installed on your PC:
http://dl.adbdriver.com/upload/adbdriver.zip
4.)Put the firmware in the ADB folder. You can rename it to anything easy to remember like "FIRMWARE".
5.) In the ADB folder, hold SHIFT + right mouse click and choose "Open command window here". Then type the command "adb sideload FIRMWARE" (where FIRMWARE is how you named your file).
6.) Wait patiently.
7.) The phone will reboot and will hang at AT&T logo. This can take another 10 minutes, just wait until it's done
Ok, so I'm a novice at best on flashing with Odin... just flashed my AT&T S7 for the second time today, loading the SM-G930U version of Oreo (G930UUEU8CRJ2).
My understanding is that the 8 in the firmware version (G930UUEU8CRJ2) indicates that it is bootloader v. 8. I also understand that once you update the bootloader, it is impossible to downgrade it... So when I realized I couldnt enable Wifi calling on SM-G930U firmwares I thought I would flash back to the AT&T firmware, and then debloat it to improve the performance. But i cant find an SM-G930A Oreo Rom with BL v. 8.
I thought this one might be, but the 3 files seem to be independant of each other, and the 3rd file that lloked like it might be BL8, is less than 50MB...
So Im hoping you can provide some guidance, and im hoping i didnt shoot myself in the foot with this SM-G930U firmware.
Thank you

Awesome! Thank you, thank you!
I actually really like Oreo, just trying to get Oreo and WiFi calling working on my phone (My Office at work fights all day for 1 bar of cell signal), I had hoped that WiFi calling worked in the SM-G930U variant since everyone talked about it running so much better, but alas, it still doesn't support WiFi Calling (Stupid me for thinking it might have had support added recently).
Thank you again
(My Wife is sure to get upset with me once again working on my phone again today... whoops)
Thanks , G930AUCS8CRJ2 is working fine so far. Do you mind sharing how you go about 'converting' a set of ODIN files to a flashable adb zip? Do you just unextract every single archive in the .md5 files? and then zip it all up? And would rooting to G930AUCU4CRI2 brick my phone now that I am on CRJ2? My bad for all of the questions.

You mean about G930AUCS8CRJ2 sideload with adb? Im just pulling the update from AT&T servers and uploading it here. I don't know how to make sideload zip. And for the rooting part I don't know if its possible now because the bootloader binary was updated to 8, try to search here on xda and see if you can find root methods for this firmware

I actually have no charge port functions and can only use wireless charger to charge the phone till i get the port fixed someday to do these features. I am on Android 8.0 oreo that i installed to sd card and updated from there like a year ago? Is that possible to do? Use SD card update.. Or. Would love to root the phone again, but cent seem to find a one click root app that will work with this phone..

Yes, you can update your phone without pc, just download the update you need from your phone, put the update in your sd card, go to recovery and select the option "Apply update from SD card"

I was thinking something like that was possible. I have baseband version G930AUCU4CRB5 Android 8.0.0 on the AT&T Gal S7 as mentioned, I never saw any updates from this version to go up to a newer version or get into regular updates from OTA. 2 issues I would like to also fixed, that came with the manual update to 8.0 oreo on my phone was the HR heart rate sensor on the back by your flash(red LED) always goes off.. And have tried to go to Samsung health and do some settings to turn it off, but seems to show back up eventually. Also, the issue of not having a working LED indicator, works fine when the phone is POWERED off. and charges. But in OS, it won't work, screen off or on bc of the update. If anyone knows how those issues could be fixed and if there is a possible newer update from my baseband mentioned below. And thanks for the response.
HI, Help needed
Hi,
I wanted to check if it is possible to flash the latest Oreo firmware you have here for downloading dirrectly to my samsung s7 that is currently running on 7.0? Current BaseBand is G930AUCU4BQK2
Basically what happened was that i lost all my contacts on my phone, I ended up download Dr.Phone to my laptop, which i used to try and recover my numbers. What i didnt know was that dr.phone rooted my device which has caused me nothing but headaches.
I now want to flash my phone and get updated to oreo and have my phone working normally again. Since dr.phone did whatever it did to my phone I lost use of my finger print scanner, had to disable samsung health as it kept trying to open on its own, my phone is lagging and freezing constantly..
I just want my phone to be normal again and unrooted and updated.
Lastly my phone is an AT&T device, that i bought second hand in Dubai, if i flash stock firmware is it going to carrier lock my device to AT&T again?
Any advice and help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

[ Guide ] Successfully Rooted SM-T725 LTE

Dear All , this method maybe already here somewhere ,
i have tried to root this specific device and i ran into many issues !
but successfully i have done it .
i'll upload the patched file here and i'll mention what method i have done ! ..
unlock boot loader is a must . ( Please read about it in google , All Samsung devices is the same method )
u might repeat the process to times until it successfully unlocked and greyed-out !
Next download this firmware only to be able to run the patched AP .
un-tick Auto-reboot before flashing .
once flash done , power + Volume down to restart , then volume up with power until u boot into the recovery
wipe data . restart . done
to make sure u have done every thing correctly u'll see RED massage once u boot you're device
Firmware ( This is UAE Firmware " T725XXS1ATC5_T725OJM1ASJ3_XSG " ) All Languages included . Link
Patched AP File Link
Please Note that i'm not responsible if u break your Tablet ! .

No ! ..
Hi
Do I just need to use odin to flash the Firmware you mentioned then use ODIN again to flash the patched ap
I can just add that with this specific fw version and patched ap everything worked on LTE version but I might add my little deviations ...
1st original firmware flash (BL,AP,CP,CSC-non-home one) instantly followed by wipe data in recovery mode.
2nd After the initial setup + wifi connection I installed and updated magisk.
3rd "adb restart bootloader" (here i am not sure if it mattered but anyway) and flush again with the provided Patched AP File (BL,the_patched_AP,CSC - the home one this time ... using CP failed with modem err with me so I just skipped it here)
4th get trough the init setup again with wifi on and open magisk which will install more stuff.
The prerequisites still apply oem unlocked bootloader before you start and keep your battery at least 60-70% since the process drained mine a lot.
You know you are on the right track when you have warning with tablet bootloader is unlocked (at startup yellow) and tablet not running Samsung's official software (red after the first one)
Ive just bought this SM-T725 model android 11. There is no sign of OEM Unlock Bootloader under development. Does anyone know how I can unlock this.

The option only shows up when you are connected to the internet.
Thanks for reply mate, I got it figured. I also manage to get root and twrp recovery but not both at the same time. After flashing and using twrp recovery I then lose root after reboot and have to flash a patched magisk bundle over odin again. Bit inconvenient but I only intend using twrp now and then for backup/recovery.
Can you recommend a stable rom for this device - far too much google bloat on it for my liking. I tried latest lineage but found it unstable.

Just install LineageOS. Clean, no Bloat, everything smooth and you can have TWRP and Root/Magisk at the same time.
Depending on how much Google you want to have on your device, you might rather choose LOS+MG ( https://lineage.microg.org/) I can highly recommend it. You get rid of Google which debloats it even more and is a plus for your privacy but almost everything works (at leat for me. But migh depend on your needs)
If you like Google, just use normal LineageOS (https://lineageos.org) + GAPPS
Thanks for reply. Will try the LOS ROM later. Wish Google crap would disappear totally. I hate it enormously.
By the way which folder am I looking for on that LOS ROM download page
Ah gts4lv I presume

Recently switched to using MicroG Lineage. Timely enough, MicroG passes the SafetyNet now as per the instructions mentioned below and indicated in the attached screenshot. For the fingerprint, I had selected the T720 from the list.

Along with Aurora store installed as a service, I think you don't need Google anymore.

I'm having some problem here:
I can install LineageOS, I can root/Magisk, I can have TWRP, but not all together at once.
Can you help me on how to do this?
Working on a SM-T725 of course, actually rooted, lineage and TWRP installed, but my Magisk can't install modules, it seems it doens't have root privileges.
Thanks in advance for your answer
anybody have an updated one, the file has been archived on the said link... thanks in advance

Question [ROM] e/OS

Hello, just bought the One Plus Nord N20 unlocked version with the intent of rooting it and installing a ROM. I haven't turned it on because I don't want it to upload the latest security patch and make itself unrootable, so I have nothing to backup. Ideally I would want to install e/OS, but have not rooted nor unlocked the bootloader of a device since 2012, so I essentially know nothing. Can someone please explain if:
- Is this is possible?
- If it is, is it a bad idea?
- Is the GSI for e/OS absent for this phone, and is this an issue?
- Is using a GSI a placeholder until a true custom ROM is made?
- Should I wait until the process is more mature?
- I am told to wait until I know what I am doing. Where should I learn / practice since there is still little documentation for this specific phone?
Thank you for your time!

Is this still the case? I read another thread that says this may be the reason it no longer works.

If you think you don't need a backup because "you've not turned your phone on yet", you should probably think twice about trying to flash custom software. Especially GSI...
Just trying to save you some heart ache down the road. Cheers

if you decide to use the security patch it came with stock then be sure not to connect tp the internet at all because once its unlocked and rooted and downloads an update dsu sideloader will not work until that update is dealt with and system updates wont work while bootloader unlocked and definitely not going to work if any partitions are modified(not stock such as magisk patched boot image). im not sure about the september update but some did have issues with the august patch although others were successful so it may have just been user error. my suggestion is to just put dsu sideloader and a prerooted gsi on an sdcard or transfer via pc/usb cord to internal storage but don't connect to the internet and use that to gain root long enough to pull your full stock partitions backups. this would be playing it safe. then ifnyou want you can relock your bootloader and update to september/newest and pull another full backup so you have it in the case that ypur successful and if not then your bases are covered to downgrade and downgrading will be as easy as simply reflashing all the stock images you pulled the first time though you shouldnt have to reflash ALL of them but in case you want to / need to then u have them. I cant stress backups enough. I use Partitions Backup & Restore by Wanam from playstore or wherever u want to download it unless u prefer to dd everything but i like the gui its just easier. read my post on how to root any n20 as there are somegood tips there and a great response detailing the procedure and dmtec also posted a much more detailed guide. i still havr a device on May patch and the other on July
