Had Mahdi rom on my last phone and had a option to skip tracks using the volume controls while the screen was off and was simply beautiful to use.
Quick press changed volume.
Long press changed tracks without changing the volume.
Sadly my new phone, J327t1 Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime is currently not rootable and the best app I can find is Frinky music controller.
Anyway to get something like Mahdi's way to work?

Hi,
I really, really miss the function of being able to skip to the next track by holding down the volume buttons, like on my blackberry, so I don't have to take the phone out of my pocket, wake it up, unlock screen, and manually press the "next" button just to skip to the next track (I am the type of person that skips tracks often, and do not like playlists).
Since I use custom in ear monitors, I don't have the remote on the earphone like the stock earphones do.
On the web, someone mentioned that all I have to do is root the phone, and install an app such as buttonremapper, and then I will be able to remap the volume button to act as a music track skipper when being long pressed.
Is this true? I much rather not flash to another rom.
Thank you soooo much!
Cyanogenmod has this functionality. Currently, nothing other than Cyanogen will do what you want.
If you want to keep stock ROM though, your only choice is PlayerPro. It has a lockscreen widget that lets you use the volume buttons to skip tracks when the device is locked.
Ah, thank you for your reply! I had actually used Player Pro when I first gotten my SG2, but switched to Poweramp because of the better EQ.
I have downloaded Player Pro again, and the skip song function works great. I just wish it works while the screen is on, and works with widgetlocker instead of its own locker. But I know I can't have everything.
Thank you again.
No problem. Latest version of PlayerPro also introduced a shake to skip songs feature, so you can use that to skip songs while another app is active. I tried it and it works.
Once again, thank you so much aydc! You have solved my problem! I will give the shake and bake a try, I just hope people don't think I am weird when they see my hand shaking/baking around in my pocket..
I LOVE this phone! (other then no led notification, and no default music skipping via volume button )
Can someone confirm if it's possible to change the track with the volume keys while the screen is turned off.
I can currently do this with my nexus 1 running cm7
Thanks

Nope. You can't. Volume keys are for volume up/down purpose only. But you can swipe the clock in the lock screen to get the music player widget, where you can change tracks.
Well it may be adjustable with CM when it comes out for the S, so I wouldn't give up hope. It's just not available in stock .
I don't get why OEMs make this a part of the stock firmware. Its a very useful feature especially when listening to spotify.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
Like the old Sony Ericsson Walkman phone's.
Hold up for next and down for previous.
It would be very usefull.
Hello everyone,
I'm using a custom ROM on my Galaxy S II > Resurrection Remix v1.0 pro.
Before that i used stock gingerbread and my headset VolumeUP and VolumeDown buttons by default have been used for changing songs (Next/Prev). Now that's changed and its by default used to control volume (As it is supposed to do) but i want to use it like on old Android for changing songs because my volume is always at 100% .
If there is any way i can change it again please, tell me how. Its kinda annoying to take my phone out and in a pocket every time i need to change a song.
Thanks.
I have the same problem on stock ICS.
I prefer Next/Prev instead of Volume up/down.
Wait for JKAY mod
That supported the change songs like that on stock
Nothing yet ...
I have recently purchased a Galaxy S Player 5.0, rooted and upgraded the firmware to stock gingergbread.
But i find when using the default music player in my car, the volume is very low, if i use poweramp it increases to the same as my iPod. However i dont want to use poweramp i want to use the stock music player. How can i boost the volume?
I have tried Voodoo but i have a stock Kernel so that doesnt work, is there any way to get into the service menus like on the Galaxy S2 and boost via the codes?
Is it just in the car? Or do you have this problem with speaker and earphones. Also are you using bluetooth to play it from car steros?

Quick Question. Have you tried to Google Play Music app and also have you tried to use any equalizers?
why dont you put the equalizer settings all the way up in the stock player? i have mine set up like that and it boosts the volume a good deal
Headphones are plenty loud enough, its just when i use it in my car. I use the Headphone socket in the car not bluetooth.
Equalizer settings are all the way up and it has made it louder but it is still alot quieter than Power Amp.
I prefer the default app as when you press the home button twice on the lockscreen it has the pulldown menu to change track easily, which is less hassle when driving than unlocking the screen and changing track in Power Amp. Also if i just use Power Amp il have the stock music icon sitting in the dock and not being used, i cant replace it with Power Amp unless i use a different launch can i??
Its not the songs as they are the same songs i have always had and on my old iPod the volume is much much louder.
I havent used google play music as its not available in the UK
Im guessing as there isnt a dialler on the Galaxy Player that the service codes to boost volume cant be accessed?
1.you can change the icon just hold and drag unless its not on the "desktop" then you go into the app drawer and press the menu button and press the edit button and now just hold and drag and i am pretty sure poweramp has equalizer settings that you can put up to and it should have a lockscreen control available.... or not try n7player.... it's pretty good

there is no harm in flashing a kernel if you fell up to it. if not you can go into setting of the main music app and one of the last settings for sound alive is user 1 and user 2. use one of those and drag all the knobs up to the top and that should give you a great deal of difference in sound level

Why don't you use Poweramp's lock screen?
And the icon in the dock can be changed, I changed mine to Poweramp.

+1 Poweramps lockscreen kicks the crap out of the stock.
Also Voodoo sound is for the 4.0, nothing you can EVER do to the 5.0 will make voodoo sound work on it, it uses a different DAC.
I'm having issues where my i9300 is not navigating through music tracks on CM10 based ROMs.
On stock, pressing and holding the volume key will make the volume go up or down until either limit is met. Now, on CM10 based ROMs, the volume will only increase or decrease by one point but the music tracks do not advance.
I have used stock ELLA ROM with a flashable mod, CM10, PACMan ROM and JellyBam.
JellyBam has the unfortunate effect of crashing PowerAMP if I enable to AOKP lockscreen volume button music control, so I can't use that ROM (nor did I want to, I was just testing it).
I am using PowerAMP with the ICS lockscreen turned on.
This works flawlessly with my HD2 so I know exactly what I should be doing, it just seems this particular handset doesn't want to work.
Does anyone else have this issue or know of a proper guaranteed fix?
Thanks in advance,
Dan
