"Hey google" hotword for google assistant - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Who knows about this? It looks like it was rolled out last fall, but I just discovered it today. It dosen't work for for me, and was wondering if it was working for anyone else.
Article: https://www.androidheadlines.com/2017/10/google-assistant-phones-getting-hey-google-command.html
Youtube quick tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkDlWgrcVl0

Definitely a fail by Google to properly advise folks and/or roll this out ...
I''ve been waiting and trying ... OK google sucks as a hot word ...

[Question] How to make video tutorial of android app?

Done anyone know of any suitable way to capture video of running app on android device?
I've tried several
Capture apps (none reliable though, one said it was taking view, but did not store it, another was unable to start the service). BTW on a rooted dev.
Moto webtop (this really sucks @ 5fps)!!
Thinking about getting a phone grip, putting pu camcorder on stand over my shoulder and do the job. But what about screen glare from the phone? Anyone had any experience with these? Suggestions would be helpful if you've done that before.

Yep screencast. Brilliant app that can capture in high definition with sound and can add a pointer on screen so video viewers can see where your finger touched if you want them to.
Also the dev is regularly updating to add new features etcetera.

just tried screencast http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
I commend the development effort, it is step in the right direction. Features, limitations and usage is clearly documents, setting right expectations.
I for one right now will go back to camcorder
stevenkhan168 you must be rolling
Another hour or trial and error, will post results back...headed to WMT for chepo phone grip

That's not the app we mean.
App is called screencast not android screencast and is on market. Its developer is media solutions.

How is S-Voice?

One of my greatest hesitancies in going with a non-Android smartwatch OS is the terrible lagginess of S-Voice in the past compared to the lightning speed of Google Now.
For those who own the watch, how responsive is S-Voice as far as texting, asking for information, etc?
Thanks. First look at this watch in the store I thought it was too big and geeky for me, but still fence-sitting a bit. I now wear a Rolex Submariner so this would be a big switch style wise.
Just tested it out myself. It's not as blazing fast as Google Now, but it's better than it was an acceptable.
You won't be able to get quick answers like "When is the Redskin's next game" without being redirected to the phone. Someone said we could get Google Now on this Gear S. Will have to research that.

I switched from my Rolex Submariner also, so I know how you feel. It's not too large, but it is definitely instantly recognizable as something more than a watch even at first glance. Still it blends in well.
S voice is pretty decent, haven't use it much but it's pretty smooth and fast. Google now is nice, but it's always been way too much of an internet search to be 100% perfect as a personal assistant.

Well one of the nice things about Google Now is I can say, "What is the score of the Redskin's game?" and the answer will appear on the watch. With SVoice it will just link me to the answer on my phone which kind of defeats the purpose of asking the watch in the first place.

Yeah they are both better in their own ways. S voice is nice and straight forward but limited, where Google now is much broader, but sometimes too broad. A good example is sometimes when I say "call Mario" it gives me an internet search for super Mario bros. Now I'm not sure why it sometimes does this, and other times calls my contact.
So far S Voice is so laggy and generally weak that it is almost useless. If I say "When is George Washington's birthday?", sometimes it just spins and spins then finally recognizes the words but never gives me an answer. The response to this using Google Now would be almost instantaneous.
I just don't get it. Samsung has had S Voice from freakin YEARS now, why does it still SUCK so bad?
Between that and the weakness of the Navigation app (no driving directions - what?!) this watch is losing it's charm for me quickly. Why is Samsung SO bad at software?
**UPDATE: I think part of the problem with the lagginess is due to the fact Sprint puts their Gear S on the horrific 3G network. ATT uses 4G. Why would Sprint go 3G when 4G was possible? Inexplicable.
Still, I can't believe S Voice can't answer something as simple as when a football game is without redirecting me to the phone. I mean, my god, come on.
It's nowhere near as good as Google Now, but it works for things like sending texts, setting alarms, and checking the weather in a city

This is my experience too. I had a Moto 360 and it could do much more but too frequently made mistakes on basics. S-Voice is near perfect for calls and messages and alarms and voice memo. I am happier with S-Voice but really missing setting calendar appointments and reminders (tasks). Anyone think Samsung will add those like they have for the phone?

I started a bounty thread for the Google ware to be ported over to the GG, G2, G2Neo. but was beaten down about the difference in the processors and such so i abandoned the thread since it was getting more flack then support.
But yes, I agree. Google now would be AWESOME for this watch.

there's gotta be something in it for them to get involved.
1k devices = no dev
millons = tons of apps.
This watch needs to sell a bunch to get dev interested or Samsung to run another dev competition.
This is by far the best watch on the market. I had the gear 1, 2 and now the S. Loving it

VR Headset for Zmaxpro

All I can say with VR capability of Zmaxpro is  .
I bought a $20 one from walmart. Pain in the ass though coz this phone is huuuuge :good: It is pressing on the buttons and so my husband is 'tweaking' the gear to solve that problem.
Dunno if there is a VR headset that can fit this phone without problem but since I can't wait to try it. I just shove my phone in the headset without its holder LOL. IT works but my phone of course is not snug in place.
Still wow. UNBELIEVABLE! I thought I would not be sucked into this VR thing but wow. The only reason I 'gave' in is coz the headset is not overprice like crazy. For $20 wow really amazing.
And Zmaxpro is VR awesomest!!! Just sharing my happiness with the VR experience in this phone.
And no I am NOT gonna root this awesome phone don't want to lose its VR capability no way.
Just want to share my head is spinning and am about to puke after I played 'Returning home' VR game. Ugh. And then I had an error 491 out of the blue and can't update or install anything from playstore.
None of the solutions online worked for me. If I was not 'traumatized' by all this stupid locks on new phones ESPECIALLY FRP and google verify locks, I would have factory reset my phone in a heartbeat.
Instead I went to ZTE website. By the way, really impressed with the live chat support ZTE people. Your customer support is 100001% better and lightning fast may I add, than alcatel which I believe is NON EXISTENT!
Anyway, just want to share that I factory reset it no problem. Without being locked out AS IT SHOULD BE!! But to play safe I remove my google account like the live chat agent told me.
It is the ONLY way that solved my error 491. Just don't forget to remove your google account first before you factory reset.
I bought my phone brand new too and it is not rooted. So maybe that's why I didn't get locked out.
Just sharing to anyone that get the error 491.
I also want to say this is my fave phone by far out of all the android phones I had and they are like many. Before I had this, my fave one was Galaxy s2.
This is my open letter suggestion to ZTE people who are (in my mind ) reading on this forums :good: I love my zmaxpro. I loooove it. I mean I have been peddling this awesome phone in this forum EVERY chance I get.
Dear ZTE people,
My phone is the awesomest! Thank you. I just hope you fix the slow internet surfing on my phone please? When I click on the video on an article in the internet it is also slow. AND.... please make my phone be updated in nougat Android 7 for free like right now?
Because I just read about this new VR software from google and so I KNOW once my phone is updated to nougat Android 7 my phone will also be daydream ready!!! I know now why you are not advertising my phone as VR ready. You are capitalizng that on axon 7. LOL. I get it. It's my win though coz I have this VR ready phone for cheap! Or else I won't buy it!!!
Thanks and anxiously waiting for my free nougat Android 7 update, hopefully
I recommend the bohemian rhapsody VR app, LOL. It is FTW! I also like Cyclops duckhunt. I really feel like I am cyclops from xmen. You don't need controllers for those games. The best games are those that you can control by headtrack. No controller needed. I love horror movies and games that's why my fave game is resident evil. I just can't with VR. Because this is literally in my face more like my eyes magnified. I tried a few horror apps that really works good on this phone. I can't finish it. I am too chicken to finish it.
ZTE people. I am really disappointed though that there are a lot of bugs in this phone. I hope you really fix this. The only way I can really be happy with this phone even if it has this bugs though is if you will finally update zmax pro for Android N. ALREADY PLEAAASSEEE! I will bug you here and also in your ZTE website. I won't stop until I get what I want.
Two words. Android N.

P30 Pro Australia update query

Hi all,
So ive seen a lot of posts lately of people getting updates past 9.1.0.153 now I'm in Australia and since getting the phone I've revived the one update which took me to .153 but since then nothing.
I don't know what exactly can help with someone being able to give an answer but it's
VOG-L29 and C636E4R1P5
I just would like some of these updates that are going around, and I want anything to help the camera keep producing nice photos but I'm not completely sold on paying a third party for the update or dabbling around doing it myself as I want to keep functionality for banking etc.
Well anyone who can help please do and thanks
Same Here.. We seem to be the last to get them but the next one should come soon

It will probably come just before all the new devices release, I just wish this Google stuff didn't happen then Huawei could of just dropped their crappy os and taken a leaf from Oneplus and Google and keep it clean and simple and then add a few cool features and just ensure it runs well, gets updated globally around similar times each region

Then compare it as designed. Log in. Otherwise you're not doing the factory rom justice.
if by justice you mean features that require internet and my personal information and habits, those are features that i dont need or will ever use.
if you are talking general speed and battery usage and functioning with the apps i use the most, then logging into google on my phone is not needed.
the phone might have the power to calculate the need parameters to build a space ship and put a man on mars, but using that power to smooth out my crows feet, socialize online looking for 5000 likes and 2 millions followers , is not a improvement in tech use.

If you know what you're doing you can log in with a Google account and not give out all the information you mentioned. There are a lot of privacy concerns these days all you need to do is some research. I'm sure you can figure something out that will accomplish your goals. Good luck.
Try freezing Google systems and Play services.
There are different apps that can do this, but you will need root.

I think he means not cutting off your nose to spite your face. Google credentials are needed for Play Store, like for keeping Carrier Services and whatnot updated. It's possible to push back against data harvesters while using stock Android, especially with root access. But it sounds like you'd rather take your concerns to the next level with something like CalyxOS and a Play Store alternative.
the only thing i dont want is to log into anything to use what i paid for.
the device is not crippled, its rooted and i have already installed 150 apps and disabled everything google i can disable.
i dont want the google experience, i want to experience the device i bought.,

So, you don't want the Google experience yet you bought a Google-branded phone? Just a bit of an oxymoron there. Seriously, while I could ask why you bought a Google phone if you don't intend to use Google services, it would be a pointless waste of time and energy.
Install a custom ROM that doesn't use Google services and don't look back. Just don't complain when you can't take advantage of a Google-exclusive feature as a result.

You do realize that as a society we are all walking around with computers thousands of time faster than we had sitting on our desks 20 years ago. That have dozens of sensors, connected to wireless networks, that can cover nearly every inch of the surface of the planet. What you're worried about is what we (the collective nerds/geeks/privacy advocates) were screaming at the top of our lungs back in the 90s...before it was too late.
It's too late son, That ship sailed, sank, was resurfaced, and put into a museum so younger generations could see what it was like in the way back when before times.

Everyone read what you wrote don't be a martyr. The fact remains you didn't get an answer yet you continue to berate members here trying to guide you in a direction that is concurrent with reality. You seem to be delusional and contrary, simply looking for an argument and to make your voice heard over reasonable discussion. It's not working. We tried to help but you will have none of it. It wasn't productive from the first post. It simply is an excuse for him to rant and rave about how Google is a data whore and all that. I can understand that, as I once was like him. Perhaps I am in the wrong here for being so blasé over Google's data collection, but I stopped worrying years ago about it. I figured the benefits outweighed the liabilities.
It's rather entitled to expect to have all the benefits of a smartphone while having none of the liabilities. I think if I were truly that worried about data collection to rant about it in a public forum I wouldn't be using a phone at all. After all, every phone made today, from the most expensive smartphone to the cheapest dumbphone, has sensors in it that can track you, even when the phone is off.
To the OP, TANSTAAFL.
