I just got this Huawei HUAWEI Y550-L01 for a great price and it's a massive improvement on my G300 (which actually cost me about double what I paid for the Y550 a couple of years ago!)
There doesn't seem to be any custom ROMs available for it yet but I was wondering if it's possible to just root it, as there's quite a few apps I like to use that require root?
I've e-mailed Huawei and they've sent me my bootloader unlock code but unless I can root it, there's probably not much point doing that at the moment.

Framaroot didnt work
Eroot didnt work
SRS One Click didnt work
Vroot didnt work
Kingoroot didnt work
For now i dont think we have root on Y550
Apart from anti virus, theres not much i need root for, but the two key things changing the dpi (because the resolution isnt good enough), and full link 2 sd (because of the lack of storage space) are kinda important
Its a pretty new phone though, pretty sure root will be around soon enough.
BTW.. can you change title to Y550 rather than 500.. help people using the search function.

Woops, yep done.
Oh well, thanks for trying.
Yeah, lack of space and inability to use link2sd was the main reason I wanted root, although there's quite a few apps I use that need it too. Apart from that though, the missing encryption feature kills it for me. I e-mailed Huawei asking why it was missing but they haven't replied!
I have filled out the email response form on a couple of the root methods asking for Y550 to be added if possible. It was only launched in October, and November for most of UK so its pretty new, but generally there is root out there for most Huawei phones.
Most apps can be moved to SD the native way using app manager or similar but its the space hogging ones like Facebook that cant be.
For those passing by this thread, make sure you set SD as default in settings>Storage and then select defaut storage location as SD
and for ref:
CPU: Qualcomm MSM8974 (think this is a misidentifiation. meant to be MSM8916) Snapdragon 800 x 4 on Elpida (Krait 400 Arm 7)
GPU: Adreno 330
Overall, on the phone its not a bad bit of kit, was bought to replace a dying Galaxy S2 and the specs are pretty much the same as the S2, more CPU but less Storage.
Negatives:
Lack of storage space, about 1.3gb at stock
Screen Resolution: Is fairly low but actually looks pretty good. Just needs the DPI dropping down a bit.
The Huwai stock launcher is pants (but easily replaced)
The Good:
Battery life at the moment seems pretty good. Using it all day, whatsapp, twitter, music player (but no games), ive not come close to having to worry about a charge
Included apps: You can actually remove the bulk of the bloatware and most of the included apps are reasonable. The backup program is functional (but let down by lack of scheduled backups), the messaging and contacts replacements are passable (but lacking merge contacts), the power management is actualy fair good with good contral of which apps are shut down to save battery and which stay open, good control of which apps are allowed to push notifications etc so that aspect of it is good.
Camera: average, but fast and functional. Good enough for snaps, but lacks obviously from only being 5mp
Mobile internet is snappy as hell
The Meh..
Not totally convinced about the settings, drop downs etc with the MIUI styling on them,

Down now to £69.99 on O2 Paygo
£1.47 on Ebay to unlock.
this phone is £49.95 on PAYG upgrade from carphonewarehouse.
The Ascend y550-L02 is now available in Australia through Vodafone PAYG for $99 AUD (including some pretty sweet extras), making it perhaps the cheapest 4g LTE option in OZ. All the standard one click root methods already mentioned don't work with this sub model either. A new root would be very appreciated! Unfortunately I'm not a developer, but I do like to reward those who are smarter than me and allow me to tweak my devices. Thanks in advance!

DISCLAIMER - THIS CWM AND ROOT METHOD IS DESIGNED FOR THE G620 - IT IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME PHONE BUT LIKE ANYTHING THERE ARE ALWAYS RISKS WITH INSTALLING CWM AND ROOTING YOUR PHONE. IT WORKED FOR ME, BUT I BEAR NO RESPONSIBILTY IF IT DOESNT WORK FOR YOU, BRICKS YOUR PHONE, OR TURNS YOU INTO A PUMPKIN.
Ok, rooting the Huawei Y550..
Source Credits Here and Here
Originally this is the boot image for the G620 but it has the same partition table as the Y550
Three step method - first you need your bootloader unlocked, then CWM installed, then superuser installed.
First you will need your bootloader unlocked. You can get this by emailing Huawei
to get your unlock email Huawei on [email protected]
Send them a request for bootloader unlock with the following info:
Serial Number: under battery
IMEI: under battery
Product ID: call * # * # 1357946 # * # * to get it
Model: HUAWEI Y550-L01
Once you have your code...
switch device off
boot into fastboot mode "volume down and power"
connect by usb to your PC
wait for drivers to install (just install the huawei app to get the drivers)
download and install ADB toolkit from google (or Android SDK Slim which ive attached as a zip)
open the directory adb toolkit is in, shift and right click and select open command window
type in... fastboot oem unlock 1234567812345678 where the number is your unlock code
Your bootloader will now be unlocked. Source and more info
Update: Alternate way to get the unlock code Link

Superuser
Dowloaded superuser.zip from HERE
(Do not use Super-SU it doesnt work with stock roms)
copy superuser.zip to your SD card.
Boot into CWM (Volume up and power key)
select english language if prompted
install zip from SD card and install superuser.zip
Boom....
Phone has CWM and Root.
Only downside is parts of the CWM (notably the backup section) are in chinese
Translation for backup section is:
backup image to internal SD
restore image from internal SD
delete image from internal SD
restore image with options from internal SD
backup image to external SD
restore image from external SD
delete image from external SD
restore image with options from external SD
Note: I tested on L01 model, not tested on L02 etc.
Wonder if this will work for the Huawei Y536A1 (At&t Tribute) as it is almost the same phone as the Y550?

Well theres one way to find out.
Joking aside, I dont know, would be a risk trying it (but then me trying g620 method on my y550 was a risk)..
Hard to find specs on the Tribute but all i can find...
1.2ghz quad core - the same
screen 480 x 854 pixels, 4.5 inches - the same
internal storage looks to be the same or similar, i have 1.6 gig on my y550, ive seen 1.62 reported for the y536, but it would need the partitions to be the same.
Y536 specs Link
Y550 specs Link
Pretty much all the specs are the same, slightly different size and weight.
Would be a gamble... but if you only paid $40 from walmart not a very expensive gamble.
Word of Warning - there are various stories that AT&T dont sell phones with unlockable bootloaders or dont allow them on their network. Not sure how reliable these rumours are
No problem with the unlocked bootoader on At&t's network on my Mom's Y536... just my $.02
Nice one dimspace. It seems to have worked on my Y01, at least CWM is installed and so is SuperUser.
I'm having a bit of trouble verifying though, as I don't really want to setup my Google Account on this phone (I already spent a while before erasing the storage). I downloaded this root checker http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472076 which shows
"Application Superuser found"
and then in red
"Terminal does rooted
Busybox not installed"
so do I need busybox installed to check root? If so, which of these zips should I install:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44175626#post44175626
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929852
or maybe there's a newer version I need to install? Do I need to install it from CWM?
I use Jrummy Rootchecker..
You can download the apk without play store and just sideload it from SD.
use APK Downloader
just put the apps id in the box and generate download link, and you can download the apk direct.
The Jrummy rootchecker address is com.jrummyapps.rootchecker
For busybox, again just install busybox installer from play store (or download apk as above) id is com.jrummy.busybox.installer - then run it and follow the instructions to install busybox
For terminal - use terminal emulator - id is jackpal.androidterm
all three of those working fine with me and i have full root, busybox and terminal.
the busybox installer will automatically check root, and download the applicable busybox for you, terminal installs as a normal apk. but you dont NEED them as long as your root is working. some applications do need busybox, but you dont have to have terminal.

Hello brother is used this ROM for who 3 days found little bug in it
1. there is not audio option to choose from silent general or vibrate
2. no OTG support
3. apps can't be moved on SD card and for mobile SD card is internal memory only so there are internal+internal 2.+Gb+ External very confusing.
4. can't select developers mode did it by hitting on build version but still can't open options.
5. o battery status.
apart from above mention the rom is cool cam is working front n back this Rom rocks requires few tweaks
Thank for you review bro
I also noticed these drawback like no control of volume separately for notification and rings, no OTG support and not showing battery level in numbers etc. But i was able to enable the developer mode by tapping on the build number.
And for increasing the internal installable memory i did some steps , sorry i didn't mention it in the previous post .
Before installing this kitkat ROM you have to Flash your phone using UCALL Phoenix rom and then install this kitkat ROM using recovery mode.
U can find the file and steps from the below youtube link to flash.
youtube video id : GcIU2n3mHEM (am not able to put the link )
(or search in youtube : "How To Flash Iball andi 4.5h With PC")
Steps:-
Download Flash Files
Find the link from above youtube page (am not able to put the link )
Instructions to Flash::
Download the PHOENIX_Firmware_Update_v5.7z to PC.
Extract it using 7zip file browser tool.
First install USB Adb drivers and Preloader VCOM drivers to PC.
Check in Device Manager if Android device is properly installed..
Now switch off Ur device..
Remove ur battery for 5 seconds and insert it again.
Insert microUSB cable and listen to the sound of attaching USB device to PC.
Just for 1/2 seconds the COM port will be seen in device manager of PC if u have installed all drivers correctly.
Now go to SP Flash Tool v3.1224.0.sn85 folder and open flashtool.exe with admin privilage.
Load scatter file from scatter-loading option and select it from PHOENIX Rom folder (MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt)
All options should be checked except cache and Userdata.
Now switch off your phone.
Remove Battery and connect microUSB cable.
wait for 5 seconds and click download button on SP Flash tool.
If u see searching below the SP Flash tool instert Battery.
You will see preloader VCOM driver detected bottom right side of Flash Tool.
If there is no error, you will see Blue, then Violet, then Yellow progress bar to reach 100% one by one.
At the end a green circle of Success.
All is done.
Now u can On you phone , phones shows Ucall Logo , for the first boot it will take 20-30 seconds. This Rom is a jelly bean rom. Once u enter into the os plz check the installable memory.
If you like this ROM you can stage in this ROM itself or if you want KitKat you have to reboot into recovery mode , now the recovery will be of CWM .
Follow the steps of early post to install KitKat Rom.
I had done this in two iball andi 4.5h and this was success for me, And i got 2.3 GB of internal memory for installation. And i think this ROM very light weight than any other. After all the steps if you need root access u can use kingroot apk (google it).

Hi !
Just picked up this big phone from Aliexpress and I want to put a custom ROM on it (preferrably Lollipop). I've searched the forums but can not find anyone that is doing anything related to this phone.. The specs are as below:
Processor - Octa-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53, Mediatek MT6752
GPU: Mali-T760
RAM: 2 GB
Internal Memory: 8 GB
It seems there are a couple of other models running on this processor (HTC Desire 626, 526G, 820s)...
Anyone working on anything related to this phone that I could try out ?

There's only one stock rom for this model now and I think it's for variant with 1GB RAM. It can be found on n e e d r o m . com
No custom roms yet.

No lollipop yet. But they have Flyme OS from Meizu as well as some other stuff in the link below. Be warned that most of the ROMS there are for the 1GB RAM version. And the whole forum is in Chinese. Have fun.

Hi Pavillo, all,
any luck with getting the 2g ROM?
I just received the device yesterday - it came somehow rooted with tons of CN bloatware, while MTK droid tools 2.5.3 was unable to access the root shell to make a backup. After few tweaks I made the su working (reinstate the superuser using the chanfire SuperSU + adbd insecure shell v2.0, but I'm not able to Create scatter file (button greyed out, probably unknown to the tool), what I see on the list is within attached jpg. Backup is I believe incomplete - console log>

I'm happy to create the dump, however seems I'm not savvy enough to prepare it using mtk droid tools.
I contacted the supplier to provide stock rom for this device, because with mine I'm not sure it wasn't somehow modified.

I backup the firmware (VIBEUI_V2.0_1450_5.9.1_ST_A936_CU)

Hi Pavillo, all,
any luck with getting the 2g ROM?
I just received the device yesterday - it came somehow rooted with tons of CN bloatware, while MTK droid tools 2.5.3 was unable to access the root shell to make a backup. After few tweaks I made the su working (reinstate the superuser using the chanfire SuperSU + adbd insecure shell v2.0, but I'm not able to Create scatter file (button greyed out, probably unknown to the tool), what I see on the list is within attached jpg. Thanks Yiminghung!
Edit:
I checked the scatter file against my partinfo and it seems to fit my 2g ram / 8g rom version!
Created a dd backup of my partitions to get the courage to replace the system partition from your dump - and it worked!
However the dump is CN version (no google play, no root, ton of bloatware) so I reverted successfully back to my original version..
I found this on the web, it's in three parts, but I was a bit loathed to fulfill the advert criteria before downloading it, so it's untested. I did message the dev to check it was dual SIM and he answered so it sounds legit. Would be good if someone could download the rom, combine the three parts and post it here?

Hi, imho this is a fake to earn money using the surveys, the whole page looks weird. I cross-checked the CN forum bbs.ydss.cn/forum-lenovo_note8-1.html and there is no lollipop rom, and I guess these guys are in front of the ROW.
Yeah, I was suspicious myself, could definitely be fake but I was very surprised to get a reply from the dev when I emailed him to ask if it would support dual SIM. That said I wasn't brave enough to fill in the ads! I'm just hoping someone can access those downloads without the ads.
What to do to download

Hi, use translate function in google chrome as I did . I managed myself to reply to some of the topics - just a single reply enables the download link- so ultimately got to the download; usually it points somewhere to pan.baidu.com ... but honestly not too much of a use unless we will get a recovery in other than CN language. I've posted the request for cwm also in that forum. However I suspect these ROMs will be CN only, while we need ROW version.

Hi all,
just to share my enthusiasm - I just got my Lenovo A936 (2g RAM/8g ROM) loaded with EN CWM recovery.
Prereq is rooted device (mine came rooted, I just switched the su app with my favorite SuperSU from chainfire) and adb (e.g. adb-setup-1.4.2.exe, could be found on xda forum).
Afterwards I used PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery executable v7 - it requested only to provide boot.img and recovery.img from my device that I created simply by adb & dd command.
After completing the setup automatically by the executable, voilla it rebooted into EN CWM recovery. Very simple!
I can dump my recovery and boot.img that might be of a good use to others.
Credit goes to yuweng!

Hi, I´ve ported a rom for BluDash 5.5 based on Resurrection, just let me know if someone want for share
Few questions about your port...
1: Is the default camera working properly?
2: Are you able to connect to any Bluetooth device?
3: When you reboot the device, are any manual changes you make kept? Example. Background, icons, etc?
I have created multiple boot animations and logos for this device. I have a variant of CM 12.1 but the issues I asked above are preventing me from posting everything.
Any input will be appreciated.

Rom Ported Blu Dash 5.5
Hi, well, I've ported this rom keeping in mind that I have not found no one a custom rom across the web, phone is not mine but I behaved for someone and the reason is that the original rom already had problems with the length battery charging and then booting, he stayed in the logo and the last time no longer started, I clarify that I am not a developer, I'm just an enthusiast and my english is very bad.
Consider the following points; Of 12 roms that I ported these have different bugs would therefore be better not to share, this rom is lightweight and has good length battery, I think it is based on cm but not sure, the native camera works well, just need SD card, bluetooth working properly, it boots normal, there is nothing to set back, known bug; when connected to the PC does not recognize internal memory but yes SD, I think it is a minor problem, give it a day to stabilize better, I used recovery Philz Touch, anyway if someone wants to improve it you feel free to do so, it's for Blu Dash 5.5 firmware D470u but I think that rolls in others.
Is the ROM good for everyday use?
It seems you ported it somehow to run of the sdcard not internal memory. Are you able to use both internal memory and sdcard?
TD378
ROM is not ported with propose of run from SD card, probably characteristics from origin, phone runs properly almost twenty days without major probs, I think is good for a day use, of fact it haven't a SD card inside, runs without it
What are the minor issue you have with current port? They may help me with my port.

Well, minor issues are;
- Some apps like Memo from Chensi ask for SD card but others like Colornote not, I think that for some reason some apps can't read internal memory.
- when a notification is on status bar I displayed to down scrollbar but at third or fourth time it's unable.
- When connected to pc don't appear internal memory but yes SD card.
I didn't see more issues, probably few errors from porting, considering that 2 of these issues keep relation with internal memory
The screen on my device cracked causing it to no longer be useful. If anyone wishes to continue work on this rom, please let me know and I will provide you the information I have completed.
Please how do i install a custom recovery on my blu dash 5.5? because i've searched and can't find any.

First extract this zip in desktop, download SP FlashTool for mediatek, extract it and open, click on scatter-loading and navigate to your unzipped folder till "MT6582_Android_scatter.txt", turn off device, connect terminal usb first only to pc, click on "Download" button in SP FlashTool and now connnect to device, process will take just a few seconds, close programm, disconnect device and go to recovery holding volume up and power at same time till appears a menu with 3 options (recovery, fastboot and reboot normal), rapidly release power button and select recovery navigating with vol+, it´s done
What recovery did you use with your upload?

Hi,
My friend bought a cheap fake chinese phone named S21+ Ultra 512Gb +16Gb with a MT6989 chip.
This device is running Android 6.
Is it possible to root this device and install a custom ROM, and if so, how?
Regards
Robert
If phone's bootloader is unlockable, and if you find a Custom Recovery suitable to this phone, and if you find a Custom ROM suitable to this phone, then it's possible.

I have this phone now as a tester. Cannot find a recovery or rom. Have your friend had any luck?
I also have an MT6989 phone and cannot find a recovery or Rom to try. Anyone else had any luck yet?
I too Have One of these And after Doing some backups I discovered that although the phone In setting says CPU 6989 It in fact is a MT6580 I also attaching scatter
Yeah I found that the specs promised were all very wrong. Phone advertised 5G but was only 3G, advertised 1TB storage but was only 16gb storage, avertised 16gb ram but was only 2gb, advertised screen 7.1 and ended up being 6.8, advertised the MT6989 CPU but was actually the MT6580, advertised Android 10 but was actually android 8. They had some spoofing software installed by default that allowed them to change whatever spec they wanted to in the settings to say whatever they wanted. I found it eventually. I chose to send it back to them and get a refund for all those reasons (and have them pay return postage). Basically a criminal seller rip off merchant. Not worth the time and effort to use when the specs we so low anyways.
well I have successfully rooted it with magisk. you can use emmcboot with magisk and boot to recovery sideload the magic_patched then afterwards select the graphics test in recovery window and should see system updating and after that magisk should be there with full root access! enjoy hope this help out!

Edit: can you give me an link for the program you used on that image? please
well you can either just use the file if not I used a cracked miracle to get the boot emc
