Hi all,
My Redmi Note 4 (MTK) with stock ROM and MIUI 8 (presumably) had several continuous strange reboots and since then. It doesn't accept My password to unlock the phone. (I assume never changed the password myself)
I have Google and Mi accounts logged in on the phone and the device data encryption is ON. there are valuable data on my phone and don't want to get it unlocked in exchange for losing all the photos and data. I didn't find any way to unlock the device remotely via Google or Mi account which is a frustration.
How could I solve the problem?
P.S: I've seen a password resetter tool on an old topic in Mi forum which also is proposed for a different model (Note 3G). not sure if it could help. Should I try that? the Topic is here

Thank you. I didn't install any third party recovery tool or root the device myself. However, root checker apps declared the device is rooted. I assume it's the default setting by Xiaomi and they've shipped the Redmi Note 4 device rooted?
Regarding the recovery tool, I'll enter into Mi's default recovery environment by pressing power + volume up. Could I do anything helpful there? like installing twrp
I had this same issue recently (three times in the space of 3 months)
I wish I'd seen this thread earlier as I just factory-reset. The 3rd tone it happened, I reverted to stock miui. I was using the modded aosp Rom at the time.

Vendors never ship devices with root access. Is your device second hand? Also did you notice having any app named supersu or magisk installed on your device earlier?
Currently you have miui recovery installed. You can only do a factory reset from there, but it would just wipe everything including data. And regarding all the tools you talked about. They require an unlocked bootloader. So inorder to not lose data and Remove password you need to unlock your bootloader and install twrp recovery. Here's the thread for it
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/development/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-root-t3717952
Note that getting unlock permission can take from 1 week to 3 weeks.
If you want to get your phone fixed urgently then the best way is to visit a service centre. But then if you can wait for a week or so, you can fix your device yourself.
After twrp is installed then just follow the guide i linked above.

No my device wasn't second hand, Actually, it was somehow strange because some apps like a mobile bank app were stating that the device is rooted whereas some other apps didn't detect any root sign on the device. There isn't SuperSu or Magisk installed on the phone too.
I just applied for getting unlocking the phone (Although for my HTC phones in the past, just used some tools from here and get the bootloader unlocked. I don't know why it's not the case for the Redmi Note 4 -or Xiaomi phones may be- in general)
I also tried the Method II here (was expressed would work for the phones Without Recovery Installed) but got Permission denied error on adb shell for rm *.key command. (Maybe it's related to the locked bootloader?)
Thanks

Adb required usb debugging and computer to be authorised, so since your phone is locked you can't allow it. And adb won't be able to perform anything on miui on lockscreen.

Since my phone has the USB debugging enabled already and I've used it with my computer (the computer was authorized). I was able to back up my files on the phones memory via ADB with below command:
Code:
adb pull "sdcard/[Folder Name]" "Path/On/My Computer/To/BackUp"
After that, I've wiped out the phone remotely via Mi account. This way I just lost my SMS and call history, since hadn't synced them with Mi cloud account.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting my unlock permission from Xiaomi and install a custom recovery for future possible issues.

From my hard time unlocking Bootloader and flashing recovery until first custom ROM of 3s, I'll share some advice
- If stuck on 50% at BL unlock, >use chinese dev rom (I used this: "land_images_V7.5.1.0.MALCNDE_20160629.0000.25_6.0_cn">MiFlash has different names but it's all the same program, and if you wanna flash something, you have to run the .bat of the extracted ROM first! >And then start the MiFlash Prog. >sign into your MI account at the dev rom in your phone >activate 'find device' and all other account options there which you can tick there at login >stop account sync of the rom and start it again >go to i.miui.com and sign in >RETRY
Custom Recovery & custom ROM
- Flashing the Chinese TWRP will cause bootloop to the dev rom ! And you likely cannot boot into recovery by just a button combo, so just reboot the recovery >using recovery< once, after you had confirmed to make changes on system (at startup of recovery) >> And keep your ROM plus Gapps on your SDCARD as you cannot access the recovery easily, if not by >fastboot reflash< or working ROM (using 'reboot recovery' in it, later) ! Do not flash Gapps after you booted the ROM already, as this will cause Gapps to fail!
Enjoy~

you must use this exact rom, at least this was the one i was using. and there is a guide where it says how to flash it with miflash but i lost the link. "land_images_V7.5.1.0.MALCNDE_20160629.0000.25_6.0_cn_e5777810ad" from en.miui.com
and yes, afaik you do have to flash this rom with miflash that's mandatory. chinese dev rom is must.

If you got Permission for unlocking just wait for 6 to 10 days after getting the permission..
No matter which rom u are on..
You will unlock successfully.. Just follow the process of i.mi.com.
Well i was also facing the same issue, what really helped me here is,
1. Removed MI Account after getting unlocking permissions,
2. Re-Added MI Account by using the mobile no. (Logging in using Mobile no. is mandatory)
3. Located the phone from i.mi.com (find device option)
4. Switched off the phone and booted into fastboot mode.
5. Opened MI Unlock and logged in here from Mobile No. and unlocked.
Got success.

unlocked boot loader successfully . I got code week ago and i had same problem stopped at 50%.
Finally i decided to install Chinese developer rom but for last time i thought let me try unlocking again with global rom. Fortunately it was a success.
Suggestion:
- allow unlock bootloader option in developer setting.
-when ever u try unlocking.Try login with phone number ,email id and mi account code.(three try every day)
-do the same with three acc in i.mi.com(locate your phone.)
-remove finger print security.(remove security)
-And have some patients. It will get unlocked when xiomi update their database.
-i got two different codes with my email id and phone no. I don't know why i have only one account in mi.com.But if it shows u"u need to apply for unlock code "again then get it.
really frustating.
I was really surprised that I got the permission for unlocking the bootloader just 30 min after applying for request. But got stuck at 50%. Tried all solutions. I'm getting that "Current account is different from the account info on the device". Somebody please help. It's already two weeks since I got the permission. Also tried internet on/off method but no use.

1. Try removing other devices from your Mi Account for the moment, add them later if you want.
2. It takes a week or so to update your information on the Indian Xiaomi servers.
3. Make sure you're using the same account in which you got the permissions to unlock and the same account is logged-in in your Mi Account app.
4. Enable Developer options and tick "Allow OEM unlock"
Personally, I waited for 6 days after getting permissions. I was also getting stuck at 50% with a few error messages but after waiting, the unlock was successful.
I had tried a lot of things that included, switching internet on/off, factory resetting MIUI, trying multiple times, reinstalling drivers, maybe I flashed the fastboot ROM too, a few times. But after all of that, few guys suggested me to wait for a week or so, so that my device's information may be updated with my account, I did that and got it unlocked after a couple of days without any problem.

Hi there,
as the thread title suggests, my phone is linked to a non-existing Mi account.
As my (100% correct) password didnt work, the Xiaomi support told me to try and delete the Mi account, which was linked to the phone. Bad idea!
And now, as the shop shipped out the device with an unofficially unlocked bootloader, my bootloader has been relocked and I can only flash ROMs via fastboot. But this seems not to work in terms of deleting the MI account from the phone. No matter what ROM I flashed, there still is the login screen with the prompt to enter the password for the non-existing account.
I have tried many guides on how to remove the Mi account from the phone, but no luck this far.
Can anyone please provide a solution?
Thanks in advance!

Oops, sorry, forgot about the two different models for a minute.
I'm on Snapdragon (kenzo) and the phone was ordered as new (but with some inofficial store ROM).
I tried a lot of different ROMs and yes, I could flash them in spite of the locked bootloader,
but no luck still with the account login screen...
After deleting MI account, flash any ROM stable/developer ROM without SIM card inserted in EDL mode and try again. That login to MI only comes in first boot if SIM card was inserted, without SIM card atleast I don't get that login screen. Then create MI ACCOUNT in mobile itself on Wi-Fi, not with SIM inserted. Hope this helps a bit

Well then you can flash any AOSP ROM via TWRP (I recommend ZCX TWRP recovery).Go for lineage os or slim7 both are quite good Roms.
For the non existent account issue login through a computer and then try forgot password and other things see if u can succeed.

Okay, I have tried to flash TWRP over the locked bootloader by replacing the recovery.img in the developer ROM.
The MiFlash process was successful, but when I tried to enter recovery by pressing power and volume up, I always ended up with the picture of an USB-cable and a PC. So it seems like there was no recovery installed.
So, I couldn't flash any other ROMs unfortunately...
Anybody has any suggestions how to get lineage or any other ROM on my Note 3?

I had the same problem and took me 2 days to find a good solution and here it is... There is a software called RBSoft Mobile Tool (used v1.4 for RMN3). It's commercial but you can find it online if that's not a problem
adb shell
su
setprop sys.usb.config diag,adb
...and it will show you the port you have to use and just press Remove Mi account. It takes couple of seconds. Reboot, and whoila
Good luck
Edit: This has to be done in EDL mode but it's noted in application. Phone has to be rooted, too

I have managed to open the bootloader, but no success yet with flashing TWRP - MiFlash shows a success, but when I try to enter recovery by the button combination, the phone does simply nothing (sometimes it will boot normally when I release the keys).
Rebooting to recovery via ADB doesn't work for the fact, that the phone is only recognized in fastboot mode. This may either come from the fact, that I can't get into the phone in order to activate USB debugging or from my driver chaos, since I have installed every Xiaomi driver in existance, I guess
I'll try different versions of TWRP over the weekend and let you know how this works out...

Hey I think you are doing something wrong.
After following steps of unlocking bootloader, did you reboot in fastboot mode and then run following code in command prompt?
fastboot oem unlock-go
Try above code (this will be the final nail in the coffin for unlocking bootloader)
After this you follow below link to install recovery

I installed recovery by this thread, excellent one, no hassles

I'm no expert, but I would go online and unlock the bootloader. Then follow this: http://c.mi.com/thread-334-1-0.html There might be other ways, but this one will work, even if getting Xiaomi to unlock the bootloader takes time.

Not sure but I think you should install adb and fastboot on pc and then Connect your phone then try "fastboot devices" and if it shows you some device, it means that your device is plugged in properly then try "fastboot oem unlocking" command this would unlock your bootloader, well the big problem is that all these commands are with respect to the Linux pc, there are something similar to do with windows and worse thing is that xiaomi have different method for unlocking the bootloader as shown in other post

Thanks for your answer, but for unlock the bootloader of a Xiaomi Phone you need first apply and ask permissions with a mi account , after that use a sofware name Mi Unlock with the account login on the phone and on the MI Unlock software. Is the only way in Xiaomi's Phone. The big problen here is I can't get into the Android System I can't put my account in the phone for unlock the bootloader.

you may use wipedata option in recovery mode, if you done have already backed up your data or you can sacrifise the data on phone,it will load the original recovery rom, than upgrade rom.....

Dear community,
you are my last resort to help me in this situation...
I have Redmi 3 which I last used 2 years ago. In that time It was associated with my Mi account. Today this account doesn't exist anymore - don't ask me why, I don't know.
I factory resetted it. Now, when it starts, it asks me for Mi credentials and doesn't let me access other phone options (settings, apps, etc.) I enter my old credentials, but of course it doesn't recognize them (account does not exist / username-password is invalid). This leaves me with unusable phone.
I tried many things:
- wrote to Xiaomi support, but they refuse to help me. They redirect me to local support or to my seller (which doesn't exist anymore).
- I flashed with brand new clean MIUI rom. I can use phone normally until I put it online. It instantly locks the phone and asks for Mi credentials.
- tried installing other OS (such as Lineage), but can't do that, because I need TWRP. To install TWRP, I need to unlock bootloader. Unfortunately I didn't unlock bootloader when I could do (2 years ago). If I try to unlock it now, my username doesn't get recognized.
-- I tried creating new Mi account to associate to my Redmi 3. Association requires internet connection which instantly locks the phone.
-- I also tried installing TWRP as it shown in this youtube video: watch?v=quNAkht1Lwc [can't publish link, I'm new user] Procedure puts my phone in looped boot process.
- I tried flashing this custom Xiaomi EU ROM but can't even flash it (instructions are at xiaomifirmware site guides-and-tips/twrp-custom-rom-locked-bootloader-redmi-3s/ [can't publish link - I'm new user])
I probably tried some other options, but can't remember them now and I'm literally exhausted!
So, in brief:
- my phone has locked bootloader
- Mi account associated with phone doesn't exist
What else can I try? Let me know if you need additional info.
Sorry for the late reply.
Have you tried to boot into fastboot mode and
- fastboot oem unlock, to unlock bootloader?
If you can unlock bootloader, try flashing a recovery. That will give you more space of maneuver.
Hello,
I have a realme 7 pro and this morning, after I turned it on, I entered the required password after rebooting and it rejected it.
The last time I used the phone was yesterday and I neither changed the password (it has been the same for months), nor did update.
How on earth is this possible?
I have never modified the system files since I bought the phone (no modding) and the bootloader is still locked (that's why I think I can't access the fast boot mode).
I can only access engineering mode and recovery mode.
Thank you in advance for your help.

That's strange. Phone rejects the password even if it entered correctly if someone has tried to enter the password incorrectly earlier without your knowldge.
Please allow some time and then enter it again.

First of all, thank you for your reply!
I wasn't aware of this defense mechanism of smartphones, however to my knowledge no one has tried to access my phone by mistaking the password...
In any case, I will wait 24 hours without making any further attempts and then try again to enter it
I just tried again but nothing.
To your knowledge is there any company that performs such unlocks? I am only interested in recovering the data which is very important, otherwise I would have formatted it....

There are a few problems with such requests:
They often come from people with stolen devices (knowingly or not, no judgements here)
It's borderline illegal, which contests our 'do not get us in trouble' rule
There's often payment involved with such services (and rarely any guarantees), also against our rules
You'll find several "tools" to "help you" but they are often bundled with malicious software
In short, though we do support some good old exploit sparring, the topic resides in a dark corner. Nonetheless it's good to ask around, perhaps there's other people with the same problem (2 years after release, unlikely) or someone has heard of a rare bug related to the matter.
IMHO your best bet would be getting in touch with Realme (find them here). Definitely keep us updated if you do!
I also have this Realme 7 Pro (issue/bug? IDK) since January 11, 2023
I have set face recognition but useless after rebooting phone.
In Realme UI recovery mode v1.2, before using any commands like
1. Install from storage
2. Online update
3. Wipe data
Phone asks for lockscreen password FIRST. Even PIN is what I set.
Also I need to recover my data first before doing ALL Methods to gain access again.
Please help us.
Edit: I just add more details about mine.
RMX2170
Android 11
non rooted, I dont have plan to modify first.
That's why I did not enable "USB Debugging" before I encountered this "lockscreen PIN problem". Which is I need right now to establish connection between android & pc.
(Forgot password is also useless they just recommend to bring this to Service Center to factory reset but, goodbye files.)

Unfortunately, I am also in this situation, I can basically only use *#899#
For now, I contacted Realme who referred me to a local shop. I have contacted them but am still waiting for a response. I have a hunch that we will lose the data....
If the device is encrypted, you can not access data without unlock. Maybe Realme have something they can flash to EDL to unlock the phone and access data….
