So, moving from s8+ then note8 (obviously 7.1) i used to use an apk of black nav bar, once installed then a solid black color shows up as a color option..
So now with s9+ in my hands, i installed it and it didn't work, am assuming because its oreo, any idea if there is any solution (other than substratum) to black the navbar..
+1 It's annoying.
im using navbar apps and it works fine on the s8 running oreo so should work on s9+ as well, still havent got mine so cant test it.
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps&hl=en
You can also just use an adb command:

That's exactly what i was looking for, thank you, will give it a try tomorrow..
I tried this and am unable to inject black as an option. Possibly that Oreo is prohibiting this (for now).
I used an adb command I saved from earlier (S8+ Times) and it worked just fine:
adb shell settings put global navigationbar_color -16777216
adb shell settings put global navigationbar_current_color -16777216
adb shell settings put global navigationbar_use_theme_default 0

Isn't this the same as the link above has, except explains different color values? I still can't figure out why Samsung thinks the users don't want black or be able to choose whatever he/she wants.
It is probably the same, nevertheless it worked for me.

These 3 commands worked. It shows as an "off white" in the Nav Bar settings but the bar itself is black as expected. Thank you!! Bring on the burn-in!

Black means the pixels are off, so there is no burn in.

But whilst the background is black, the button symbols themselves are white/grey making them pixels lit. If those pixels are lit all the time whilst the pixels around it are off, it's more likely to burn into the screen as those pixels are being used more.

All phones with oled screens yes.
Not working for me, still all my colors are the stock Samsung ones and nothing closely resembling black
I read somewhere, I really can't seem to find the article that Samsung did this on purpose. To help prevent burning And to keep screen degradation uniform. I assume it's because the black bar is essentially no pixels meaning they're not on. Meaning they're not being used as much as the rest of the phone's display thus they will degrade slower and eventually give the appearance of burn in. Makes sense to me I guess

I rather not have them turn on at all. I don't like using screen filter because it disables randomly or when the brightness is adjusted either manually or from another app.
LEDs hack in the market. You can use to disable them, but I don't know if it will stay after reboot.
Didn't work that's the first thing I tried.
I have a script I got from somewhere on here that I just run the command in terminal emulator. One command, and it turns off when on or turns off when on.

I was thinking of just maybe coloring the LED's with a black Sharpie. But im sure there's a easy way without taking the phone apart.
Here, download this then
adb remount
adb push leds /system/bin
Now, in adb shell or terminal, type leds

Thanks. I don't have tasker, but looked at this from your tut: For capacitive leds,
@! echo X > sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/brightness
0 = OFF
1 = ON
I was able to use Root Explorer, and navigate to "/sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/brightness" When I got to the 'brightness' file, I long pressed it, and cliicked 'open in text editor'. It opened and the number 255 was there. I deleted it, and added a 0, then hit menu and chose 'save and exit'. Not sure if i did it right, but as soon as I hit save and exit the capacitive lights turned out, and I've had no issues so far.
EDIT: NVM, they came back on and the 0 changed back to 255. Lights are back on after the screen shuts off and turns back on.
Tasker is $7, kinda pricey for me. Im a cheap bastard when it comes to adding to my $200+ phone bill.
Noticed they came back on with the script too. So I modified the script to make it stick.

Hey there fellow modifiers!
I have gathered the best tips and tricks to get the best battery life on our loved LG G6.
All this methods were made on a H870S non rooted phone so anyone can do it.
Post gets constantly updated with more tricks, so keep coming!
Reduce resolution to 1080p and adjust DPI for comfortable view: (AOD gets messy so you are better off disabling it)
1) Connect phone via adb and activate debugging.
2) Execute this command and select the resolution you want.
"adb shell wm size 1080x2160" THIS MAKES YOUR PHONE RUN IN 1080 NATIVE RESOLUTION.(tested and works wonders)
"adb shell wm size 720x1440" HAVEN'T TESTED THIS ONE, IF YOU DO COMMENT.
If you need the original resolution just run:
"adb shell wm size 1440x2880"
3) Run this command to adjust DPI(screen scaling).
"adb shell wm density 500" SLIGHTLY SMALLER.
"adb shell wm density 400" EVEN SMALLER. THE ONE I LIKE WHILE USING 1080P
"adb shell wm density 300" COULD WORK GOOD WITH 720P.
If you need the original resolution just run:
"adb shell wm density 640" THE ORIGINAL WITH 1440P.(or the three options on "app scaling are 544/640/720)
DON'T TOUCH APP SCALING BECAUSE IT WILL MODIFY THIS.
4) Reboot if needed.
Deactivate/Debloat the phone as much as possible.
Just go to settings > Apps and start searching for deactivable system apps.
Secret menu
Disabling LDB
1) Open Dialer and type "*#546368#*870#" where "870" is your model number.
A "secret menu" should appear, if not search for your secret code.
2) Go to "SVC Menu"
3) Go to "LDB"
4) Untick the "enable". It should then say below it "MLT will not run after booting.
DON'T CLOSE THE MENU STILL.
Disabling Log Service.
1) Go back from the previous menu.
2) Go to "Log Service"
3) Tap 2 times on "Log enable". It should enable and then disable again all logs, cleaning them in the process.
4) Exit menu.
Disable Always on Display.
Settings > Display > Always on Display.
Disable Wifi/Bluetooth scanning while off.
Go to Settings > location> three dots > scanning > Bluetooth scanning and Wifi scanning.
Disable "Find my Device" under Phone Administrators if you don't use it.
Settings > Fingerprints & Security > Phone Administrators
Disable Excess "Trust Agents".
Settings > Fingerprints & Security > Trust Agents. (I personally never use nor "LG Face recognition" or "Smart Lock (google) so i disable them)
Disable Alarming Flash if On.
Settings> Accessibility> listening> Alarming flash
Use Greenify to "Doze" the Battery-Hog Apps.
Just download "Greenify" from play store and follow instructions given on app.
Turn on Battery Saver.
AOD doesn't seem to work at 1080p

Interesting... 2% during night with flight mode ON (about 8h). With AOD INm flight mode ON it takes during 8h 4%.
Do you have stock software and stock launcher (with or without dock?).
Can I run these commands in a terminal with root?
Thank you for this! lowering the resolution also seems to make the phone that little bit snappier. Any ideas how to fix recent apps list? it shows zoomed in previews (likely ignoring the set density). This also applies to AOD and boot up animation in my experience.

Does someone know what LDB is good for? I tried googling it but found no real answer. I don't like disabling things I don't know the purpose of. Thanks for your guide btw!
Thanks. I will try it
Thought i'd add to this too:
Enable 'conserve memory'
Settings > Smart Doctor > Memory > 3 dots > Conserve memory
Select the apps you don't want running in the background.
This works so well. I usually get only 2-3 hrs of SOT with normal settings, but now i strongly believe i can easily reach around 5-6hrs with this method. Screen on avg used to be around 20%/hr, now its around 10%/hr which is astonishing. Thank you!
So I got my T-Mobile S9+ on Tuesday. I got everything loaded up and restored and at 10pm, I noticed the color shift on the screen into a night mode type color scheme. Whites were turning a yellowish hue. I'm running Nova Launcher as my main launcher and checked all the settings in the phone itself, and nothing is enabled for Night mode. I ended up having to reboot the phone and it was back to normal.
It happened again the last two nights at 10pm EST. No idea why. I've tried everything short of rebuilding the phone (I know most will suggest this, but I'm trying to avoid it for the time factor). Rebooting seems to reset the clock on whatever is doing it and it goes back to normal.
My wife has the same phone and similar setup with Nova and hers doesn't do it. I've tried going back to the stock Samsung launcher when it is happening and nothing seems to fix it.
Anyone had this happen? I don't see any third party apps that would cause this that I have installed. the only app I can think of that even has a night mode is Nova, but that just effects menus and turns them black, not yellow.
*Edit* Sorry, I meant to put this in the Q&A Section.....

Seems unrelated to that.

EDIT: I Fixed it finally!
I have no idea if there's an easier way to fix this, but here's what I figured out sifting through adb commands. If you run the command
Code:
adb shell 'settings list secure
you will get a list of many of the device's settings. The one we're modifying is called "Night Display" which is different from what everyone has been calling "Twilight Mode" in my google searches. So all we have to do is run the two following codes:
Code:
adb shell 'settings put secure night_display_activated 0'
Code:
adb shell 'settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 0'
This fixed my issue immediately and it persisted through my manual date and time adjustments just to verify and also two reboots. I know ADB commands aren't everyone's cup of tea but it is also a very powerful tool at unfu**ing what manufacturers have fu**ed. Hope it helps others as well!
(ORIGINAL, not needed, left for posterity)
This needs more attention. I know EXACTLY what this is. You came from a more recent Android device that uses Google's own "night mode" settings. I know, because I did too. I came from the Razer Phone and had night mode enabled on that on schedule. After my screen turned a real dank orange color at night, I started looking for the setting and discovered Samsung's "Blue Filter" setting and that enabling it made the orange color even more dank. So I immediately knew that the setting must have carried over when I logged into my google account and carried over my settings.
I have a workaround, but it is just that, it's not a permanent fix and I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it permanently. You need to install System UI tuner from the playstore. Follow the instructions to make the app work by granting permissions using ADB while connected to a PC. This is not root and will not void your warranty as such. From here, you can either just disable "Night Mode" under the miscellaneous tab or you can go to the playstore and install "Nougat / Oreo Quick Settings" which will allow you to add the toggle for "Night Mode" to your quick settings pull down bar. Unfortunately, you have to do this every night to get rid of the ugly orange color.
I've tried disabling the setting on my Razer and syncing everything in my google account from that phone, then restarting my galaxy and hoping that the settings would transfer over, but it hasn't worked. My fear is that I will have to factory reset the Galaxy, go back to Razer, toggle the night mode on and back off. Sync settings, then sign back into my galaxy and hopefully the settings will not come back this time. I just haven't because I don't want to set EVERYTHING back up again, ugh.
If anyone is aware of how to disable the "Night Mode" schedule feature in a different way without factory resetting the device, please let me know. Thanks!
There's an easy solution to this, if you hadn't switch off the night mode on your previous phone before transferring to the S9:

Wish I had waited a little bit longer and had done this. I ended up backing everything up to my SD Card using Smart Switch and then wiping and rebuilding the phone yesterday afternoon. However, I didn't choose to restore from Google and only from Smart Switch, so the night light setting didn't end up carrying over again.
Good to know I wasn't crazy and that my phone wasn't defective.
I had this problem too, and couldn't find an easy solution, until today.
The problem is that samsung will ask you out of the blue if you wanted to enable the "Nightmode" which is separate from "Blue Light Filter," and the two can overlap. Which is annoying. And you'll find yourself looking everywhere to find the setting to turn it off.
So, where is this setting hidden?
Google Playbook.
Launch google playbook, read something, anything. Click the screen and then the "Aa" icon, for changing brightness/fonts. Then there, click Setting again, and you'll find "Night Light" turned on and scheduled.
Simply turn it off and Voila!
No rooting, no launcher or nothing required.
I was all ready to get adb working and use the above workaround, and / or install nova launcher and fix this issue but THIS WORKED.
THANK YOU it has been bugging me for WEEKS.

Huge thanks as you saved me from factory resetting my new Mi 9 Lite. That's why I love the internet.
I have the amazfit stratos 2. I installed a custom watchface.
The problem that i'm facing is that the watchface is different when locked and when unlocked. I would like it to be like on the photo from the unlocked screen. You can see a green shade on the unlocked state. When it's locked it's only a sort of green line without any shade.
Usually most watchfaces go into 8 colours mode when screen is locked, it was meant to save battery (?) and increase contrast, but I think it was also some limitation of the initial API used to display watchfaces. Every custom WFZ that is available on SAWFB site will display this behaviour. Some built-in ones won't look as bad if the background is only black or white. To avoid this, without keeping the screen on all the time and killing battery, you can personalise the WFZ by copying the same background to the 8c folder (WFZ is actually a zipped folder) or use a Java (APK) watchface.

To avoid this, without keeping the screen on all the time and killing battery, you can personalise the WFZ by copying the same background to the 8c folder (WFZ is actually a zipped folder) or use a Java (APK) watchface.

Thanks for your answer. I've checked what you suggested. But like you can see in the pictures it was already like this. The weird thing is that the first time i installed this watchface everything was fine. Than i modified it to display the temp instead of the total km. When i installed it , i notified this behavior. So i installed the original one again and still the same weird behavior.
Try using these command on adb, with the watch connected to the computer, this will reset the launcher and watchfaces cache (root not needed):
Code:
adb wait-for-device
adb shell rm -rf /sdcard/.watchfacethumb
adb shell pm clear com.huami.watch.launcher

Sadly that didn't work. I've shared the original file maybe you or someone else can check it out to see if the same thing happens on there watch?
Same thing... And now I realize that I missed one thing: you are using Stratos, that comes with WOS2 (Watch OS 2.0), and it doesn't use the "8c" folder anymore, but some kind of color mapping/dithering in another folder named "26w". Even using a black & white PNG in 8c folder, WOS2 removes the dithering in my tests.
If you are into graphics and want to try to figure out how it works, I am attaching one of the stock WFZ for Stratos, so you can see what I meant above.
This kind of dithering from another stock WFZ seems to work better, but I don't know how to make them.

Thanks , i'll try this one out. I wish there was an easy programme that we could use to make or edit existing wachtfaces. The one i've send you looks very nice but only when not in locked mode sadly. I would be happy if someone gets this working.
Hi OP, me too interested in this topic... Got Stratos yesterday and cant really understand why they impact screen awesomeness in this way...
Also interested in this topic. If.we can get the lock/standby mode watchfaces look better would be a great win for this cool watch.

It can't be done.
The watch in standby switches the display to the 8 color mode and you can't do anything about it.
It is one of the reasons why it used so little energy

8bit mode is OK - but dont shut off antialiasing....
My Garmin FR935 screen is 240x240, has ****ty colors (64) but looks WAY BETTER due antialiasing constantly on and has 3weeks batt life if connections are off (I just upload stats over wifi when I am home)
So technically 8bit mode is OK but dont shut off antialiasing - as screen really turns crap (until you move your hand to turn antialiasing on)...

I wrote 8 color mode, not 8 bit.
is it possible to use the cut out area (when we cut out / hide the notch ) as notification light area (like holepunch from s10?).
Maybe a little bit too much but I think the mi 8 gonna be look so cool if we use the cut out area
I like this idea!
There's an app called Battery Notch in the Playstore that does this.
Doesn't need root, says you need to use ADB commands but I never and it works great.
Works for all different types of notch or cut outs.

That's not what kenshin1908 asked, it's for battery level not intended for notification.

That's what Battery Notch is for, indicating battery level with a line around the notch that moves and changes colour from green to orange to red as the battery depletes.
Nothing to do with notifications.
still not what kenshin1908 asked for, you just changed the point lol, or do you see somewhere the word "battery" in the open post?
he ask for Notification light, check the topic again.
This is what I meant. We use the hide area with animation to show notification or charging progress

Thanks, it works fairly well. but it costs money to change battery colors, definitely worth checking out.
