[MOD][Stereo][BiQuad][Audio] Stereo mod and enhanced bass using Qualcomms Biquads - ONE Android Development

Code:
*** Disclamer
I made this mod for myself and I'm willing to share it with you. Install this at your own risk.
Introduction
This mod activates the earpeace speaker for playback of multimedia audio, to create a stereo sound.
Using Qualcomms biquads, which is a hardware filter (doesn't interfere with software equalizers) in the audio codec that isn't used by default, I have been able to increase the volume and bass of the audio without harming the speakers. For this, I designed the biquads like this:
Earpiece
Let's be clear about it: the earpiece speaker isn't physically designed to produce loud and rich music and doing so may be harmfull for it.
I filtered out the low-frequency tones for the earpiece speaker because these are the most harmfull for it. Doing so, I was also able to turn up the volume a tad without sacrificing on the quality of the audio.
This is the frequency response of the earpiece speaker:

Main speaker
Here I made 2 versions: 'balanced' and 'volume boosted'.
Balanced:
On this one I lowered the volume of the main speaker to match the volume of the earpiece speaker. But because the low-frequency tones are quite weak on the oneplus one, I decided to keep the basses on stock level. This way, the sound is nice balanced while basses are a bit boosted. This leads to a very nice audio experience while watching video's, however the max volume is quite low.
The frequency response of the main speaker for this case is like this:
Volume boosted
This is actually the same as the balanced, but the total volume is about the same as stock.
I lowered the main speaker volume until the point where the earpiece and main speaker together produce about the same volume as stock. The low-frequency tones of the main speaker are kept at max volume. This leads to music with about the same volume, but better bass than stock. The nice stereo effect of the music is still present, but not balanced anymore.
This is the frequency response of the main speaker:

1) Download the balanced or the volume boosted stereo mod above
2) Flash the zip-file through a custom recovery
(The mod will check if my 'balanced' or 'volume boosted' mod has already been installed. In case it hasn't, it'll make a back-up of the original mixer_paths.xml)
3) Ready!

Uninstallation instructions
Just install the Uninstall.zip, you're back to stock.
(I also noticed that not every ROM uses the same mixer_paths.xml, so if you lost your sound after flashing this mod, don't wory, just flash the Uninstall.zip)

Remarks
I use (and thus developed) this mod together with a dolby atmos port to get a great audio experience while watching movies and listening music. Therefore it is also optimal in combination with dolby atmos.
This mod was a lot of work, give a "thanks" or consider a small donation if you like it please.

Nice work, but try to actually edit your posts instead of flooding the forum. Please. The mods are doing enough work already.

Hi
I know.. I kept arriving at a a page "this page doesn't work" so I thought the thread failed to be created every time.
Then I saw all the duplications and tried to delete them all, but although they were removed from my projects they kept existing in One Android Development...
In the mean time a mod already deleted the other ones Sory for the confusing!

That's weird... On pc, the link take you straight to this page (see attachment), but in the android app it doesn't... I'll upload a Google drive mirror..
Edit: same for the pictures in the 'introduction' section, they show up on pc but not in the android app.

I don't know, you can try. In case it doesn't, just install the uninstall.zip, this recovers your stock mixer_paths.xml.

Are you trying to flash this on a oneplus one? Could you check what is stated above the red tex that says error 7?
The mod probably can't identify your device as a oneplus one.

Oh I see, the location of mixer_paths.xml has changed with android 8.1...
I'll update the installer to support android 8.1. In the mean time, you could indeed manually replace the mixer_paths.xml like zzyyi66 said, but take a backup of the original because the uninstaller won't work if the installer can't make a backup.
For the people who manually replaced it without making a backup: another way to return to stock would be dirty flashing your rom again.

[MOD][CAM]GBXperia S|Video 1080p >20mb Bitrate|720p >15mb Bitrate|>100% Image quality
Gingerbread only
Thanks to all the lovely people in the "Root XPS (63 & 67 FW) [Update: 08.03.12]" section I am now able to test my mods and install apps direct to System/app.
As with my previous camera mods this "initial" version increases video 1080p bitrate from 14mbps to 20mbps and 720p from 6mbps(pathetic) to 15mbps.
Also increases Image quality from 90% to some what over 100% by fiddling with the constants array-data and removing the 0x5A cap, image size will be bigger; I'll be able to check images better in the morning during the day.
This version should work with all firmware and roms versions for Gingerbread 2.3.7.
Normal install:
1. Extract the zip files to a folder.
2. Obtain a root file browser like rootexplorer or ES File Explorer.
3. Rename the current files on the phone before replacing.
4. Activate root access via the file browser of choice and copy SemcCameraUI.apk to system/app and media_profiles.xml to system/etc
5. Apply permissions and change owner to match any other file in the same directory for both the above files (06755 and root).
6. Reboot device.
7. Recommend to go into Settings then Applications then manage Applications and find the camera install settings under the All tab and press clear data to restore camera default settings.
ClockworkMod install:
1.Copy the file to your phone, reboot into clockworkmod recovery.
2.Select "install zip", then sip >> sdcard and browse for the file then click and 3.confirm to install.
4.restart your phone as normal.
Seems very smooth with video at these moderately increased levels, will see how high the bitrate goes.
I've tested most of the functions of the app and it should be fairly glitch free, let me know otherwise.
For more info on how I modded these files check my previous mods in my signature below.
Got a few more ideas and as always suggestions welcome.
Edit1:20120314
Seems the media_profiles.xml does have some side effects and i've had a few random force closes with video settings, if you experience this just replace the file with your backup version and restart the phone. I'm looking into this.
Edit2:2012317
New version of the files uploaded, fixed the above issue force closing with video settings.
Edit3:20120320
On comparison it seems the quality of even the 14mbps stock bitrate is extremely good, which says quite alot about the 12mp image sensor used, high praise indeed.
Edit4:20120420
Seems to be a Sony bug with Image stabilization set to on and changing the ISO setting, this actually disables the image stabilization.
Found on the Sony Xperia forums this is currently being looked at by Sony for a fix

Yes tho the audio is already quite good at 128kpbs x 48khz in stereo, what sound quality would you prefer?
@ Solid Eye what other options did you want that the SGS2 had?
-smc
@ Jozinek tho i haven't had too much of an issue with it, the stabilization feature could be alot better in my opinion.
Also the video format profile is only [email protected] which doesn't allow for CABAC compression, might be able to change this if i find the profile code in the app.
The default-capability.xml file in the system/etc folder shows different format profiles which we may be able to play around with like H264 [email protected] at least which supports CABAC.

You are writing on a dev thread not a FAQ thread, learn to read and accept what comes when you don't read. Also stop caps and learn what netiquette is.
i gonna keep it short, the post above in red is my first post ever made on xda using caps, it was my 339th post, so pls, spare me your lessons && morals about netiquette.
Asking questions is part of the life of a dev topic.
End of the story

nocomp & gbil,
You will both end up being infracted if you continue spamming this Dev thread with your petty bickering.
Now stay on topic!

Yeah good point, i'll be upping the audio and video bitrates soon and see if we still get a consistent framerate, as long as our min framerate stays above 25fps in low light then im happy.
@ asestar reddish tint I haven't seen yet sorry, is this in video and/or images specifically? Night or day shots? can you upload a sample here for us also?
I have yet to fiddle with default contrast, iso, sharpness etc values.

[Sound Enchantments]SRS Trumedia & MixeDDSP for our x8

Greetings Fellow folks. This is my modification thread. Feel free to leave comment & feedback as you want. I Advice you to backup your current working rom to prevent undesirable experience with my mod's.
This is SRS from SRS Labs for our Lovely X8
This is The only Mod that really activate SRS effect on your devices. Yes, there are alot of duplicated thread along xda forum here. But today let us not go through that topic.
After install this mod, you will experience:
Surround effect(For Stereo speaker, (headphone, bt, portable & etc...) )
The sound becoming detailed(Dynamic Sample rate increased, You'll feel your music becoming more details now!)
Background sound is heard clearly(Clarity)
Volume Gain! (Please be careful with your speaker sound. As it is set to global changes in your sound volume. You should lower it to 2 level from the normal volume to achives normal speaker loudness. This Volume Gain is designed for some geeks that find it useful.)
TAKE NOTES THAT:
WILL Work on most Gingerbread Rom's out there, If it is built properly.
NO ICS SUPPORT. (Don't Disrespect Paul-xxx)
DSP, Volume+ app and other application that use/depends on libcyanogen-dsp.so will stop functioning as you flashed this mod. So remove them before flashing to avoid annoying Force closes on them....
This is tested on Fde (Gingerbread) rom without any problems, although it support many rom outside there, expect some problem when flashing this mod. (You have been warned.)
Special Thanks goes to:
Paul-xxx for guiding me & helping alot about how the lib and others things work in GB rom!
But surely the files are my discovery across many forum & risk to tested it on my device.
DO not duplicate anymore thread
You can include it in your rom freely, distribute, but in the condition of LINK IT TO THIS PAGE, FOR ALLOWING OTHERS USER TO UPDATE THE MOD MANUALLY!
Downloads: Delete your DSP Manager before Proceeding !
SRS Trumedia V2 for X8 by CKKnot.zip (CWM-zip Flashable Zip Files)
Take Note This Mod will:
Remove any /system/lib/soundfx files and install the SRS into it.
So, your all previous sound enchantments are removed! (To prevent lib conflicts)
For undo/remove this modification, You have two choices
Restore your rom backup easy right?
Reinstall your whole rom without full-wiping.
Buglist:
Weird bug on cwm installation (The mod will not installed, no effect to your device. If that happen, check whether the file inside the zip archive is exist on your phone, if not, you'll need to manually copy & paste & set permission)
Hope you guys doesn't get lost in the jungle

NO ICS SUPPORT. (I'm not samsung or whatever user...)
Download & Instruction:
Download Initial MixeDDSP-Beta.zip or Attachment below (CWM Flash-able Zip File)
Flash in CWM recovery & reboot.
Known Issue:

P.S.

EDIT: Everything installed fine. Just can't really tell difference and I cannot understand this new app at all. Any suggestions?
Note to poweramp users, you'll need to up your EQ if the volume is "not working".
Disable EQ and you'll get a vol boost (with the EQ effects), so increasing would compensate for it(naturally).

Just turn off all equalizers in your music/media app, play a song and at the same time play with the settings in the app. Some things might not work though because the libs caused mediaserver crashes for our device. I love the Psychoacoustic sound though, try that!

Yeah, and also need to disable DVC in PowerAMP. Basically any app that has it's on post-processing needs to be disabled for the native effects to do anything.
Can anyone confirm whether 'Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) and 'Volume Enhancement Engine (VE-Engine)' are working for Build-In Audio Monitor (headsets) ?
Edit:
Tried with other more stock-y media players. AVLS works but disables the it's own Digital Preset's EQ.
VE-E can't hear any difference.
VSUR attenuates some middle-to-high frequencies on the mid-side area without any stereo expansion. Kinda counterintuitive but whatever.
Anyway, I'm feeling lazy -
I hope others find more use for this especially for gaming/watching videos/ebook. Good luck discovering those tiny bits and please share them.

CyanogenMod DSP Manager does not work with any of these mods (SRS, BeatsBass, xLOUD).
Kk. If you listen to dubstep then put on your headphones, set large level of psychoacustics and play skrillex equinox best bass I've ever got from my good old koss porta pro.
I'll say it for the third time. I love you man.

Just some info -
I am aware that the xLOUD service is unreliable. It is not engaged as soon as the AudioFlinger wakes up, so incoming calls and such usually won't be xLOUD-enabled. But I will say that I'm looking into a possible solution - to remove the xLOUD "Audio Effect service" and merge the code directly in with the media framework. The downside to this is that the ROM will need to be built from source for this - I'm sure wedgess and cj360 can make the change but FXP will probably not care.

Used this to replace cm10s low audio. I must say your the best. I notice a significant difference in the audio after a bit of tweaking on the eq. Thank you.

[MOD][ONEPLUS ONE][4.4.x-7.1.x] True Stereo effect [BALANCED]

First off, to be clear this is a reworked project. But definitely a great mod that might help many users.
Q. Oh gawd, a thread is already there. Moderator ban him!
-Yes, there is a separate thread for Audio mods and all, but I'm afraid not many people visit them. So I'm just posting it here for the sake of sharing. And yes, I'm very thankful to the original idea of the OP here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-oneplus-one-stereo-mod-t2967925 and most of the credit goes to him. Buy him a beer if you like this.
Q. Okay, whatever. Just tell me what will it do???
-Well, what in does in OP(s) own words "I have enabled true stereo playback by putting the speakers on a different channel than the earpiece. This version of the mod will only be noticeable if you are listening to music that was recorded in stereo."
-YES, IT DEFINITELY DOES SOUND BETTER.
What it basically does is sets up 2 channels, one from the speakers(both mono) and the other from the earpiece, thereby making it a True Stereo combo.
Enough of All the explanations, get me to the downloads. Grr.
HERE mate -

Q) Is A.R.I.S.E. supported? What about Spotify? SoundCloud? Indian users: Gaana? Saavn? Hungama Music?
-Every music App/mod is supported which can output Stereo sound (most of them do) Don't worry. ^-^
Q) YouTube?
-F*ck yes.

Works for me, maybe add an option to balance sound volume between speakers? Main speaker are Lauder then upper one so stereo effect is minimal
Edit: but in game there is only music, sfx sounds doesn't work, eg Hill climb racing 2 only hear music, but nothing more, engines or other

The earpiece cannot match the output of the main speakers (power output difference), however I've tried to create a balance between them.
To increase the earpiece volume -
Navigate to /system/etc
Open the mixer_paths.xml
Go to the "output paths" section
Find the <path name="speaker"> line
<path name="speaker">
<path name="spk-ear" />
*This is the earpiece volume code* (increase or decrease as per your will)<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="92" />
<ctl name="RX3 Digital Volume" value="66" />
</path>
About the game, I haven't tested it on Hill climb racing particularly. Can you check out more games and report and maybe I'm able to fix that as well.
Cheers.
the STEREO works great! thank you for the mod.
only problem I lost all sound in notifications and touch sound and lock screen sound doesn't work.
can it be fixed? I'm on RESURRECTION REMIX [5.8.0]

The value is already set to 90%(if you're using the modified zip), I do not recommend going over 95 as it starts cracking after that and may affect the earpiece. However, you're free to set any values as per your will.
Just change the values, hit save and reboot.

This module enables the earpiece to be used as a secondary speaker while playing music or videos.
There were a few modifications in the mixer file, similar to Oneplus 5 & 5T.
*I am not responsible for any damage to your device*
You will need a stock rom with Magisk installed.
EDIT : After reviews from users I found out that this mod works partially with complete stock, to get stereo audio on all the apps please install NoLimits rom or Viper Audio.
Just add the module in magisk & reboot.
If you want it to be more loud, flash the cleanslate kernel and increase the earpiece gain.(*At your own risk)
Downloads :
v8 : Releases
Source : Github
Note : Download the file in the attachment, extract it & move it to ViPER4Android/Kernel folder in internal storage and select TubeAmplifier file in Convolver. This will significantly boost the output of both the speakers without causing any distortions. [Original thread]
Addidional Note : As reported by aenews v8 breaks AML compatibility with other mods, so if you're facing the same issues please revert to v7!
OLD VERSIONS :
Download v1 : DRIVE
Download v2 [Gain Reduced] : DRIVE
Download v2 : DRIVE [Does not require Viper]
Download v3 : DRIVE
Download v3 [With Unity & AML Support] : #232

Black player working for me as well. I had flashed NoLimits rom to check compatibility, also viper and dolby were included in the rom, you can maybe try flashing viper and report back?
Meanwhile I will try to revert back to stock and check whether the earpiece is working.
EDIT : Reverted to stock, facing same issues as you guys. To get the stereo mod across all apps please install the Viper audio or NoLimits Rom.
OP will be updated accordingly.

You can modify gain levels by flashing clean slate kernel and installing the companion app.
You can increase the volume till the voice is clear, if it starts to crack lower the volume as it may damage the earpiece.

You can damage the earpiece at very high volume levels. However, at moderate volumes this won't cause any issue.
