I have Huawei u8600 sonic rooted and with Cyanogen 9 ROM for this phone. Everything is working fine, but I noticed that sometimes my phone just doesn't find SD card. After reboot it works fine again for a while, but after an hour or two it happens again. There is no message about SD card being removed or something, it just disappears. I have most of my apps moved to SD card, so this really annoys me, because without SD card I can't use most of my phone's programs. Anyone have any idea what is this related to and how to fix it? Any help would be really appreciated.

I had the same issue with my Motorola Defy with SanDisk 32GB class 10 sd card. The solution was... replacing card with different card. Now I'm using for test Sandisk 2GB class 4 sd card, and till now everything is ok.
It doesn't mean, the 32GB card is bad - it works perfect on any other device, but it's simply incompatible with my Defy.
It's a long post, so even if you read it and don't have any answer, thanks for the time!
3 weeks ago I got a 16gb Adata Premier Micro SDHC class 10.
Put it on my x10 mini pro (latest minicm10 nightly), created a 512mb partition in ext4 for a2sd and the rest in fat32. Activated a2sd and installed some apps, put around 5gb of music. The card worked perfectly for 2 weeks.
Last week I installed a couple of apps, used it for a while and then an hour later I picked up the phone and I had a "sd card ready to remove" notification.
I mount it again, leave the phone alone. I check later and was unmounted again. So one more time, I mount it and went to sleep. Next day there was a "card suddenly removed" or something like that and I couldn't mount it. Physically removing and reinserting it did not work.
Rebooted in recovery and I was able to mount it from there and when restarted into normal mode the SD was mounted normally. But just for a couple of minutes til it unmounted again.
After that nothing worked. No matter what I tried the phone never recognized it. Tried with the old 2gb card that came with the phone and it worked flawlessly.. So I assumed the card was dead.
I reinstalled latest minicm10 because a2sd broke everything when after the 16gb card died.
A two days ago I was visiting my brother and tried the card on his galaxy S3. Surprisingly for me the card was recognized right away and all my files were there. Copied the files to the pc and reformated the card with Aparted from the galaxy again with 512 ext4 partition.
Put in on my phone.. It works! Copy all my files, activate a2sd download a couple off apps and everything was working great.
An hour later the card started to unmount again.. I thought it might be the rom.. So I installed pureslim v4 (that is also based on minicm10) formated the card in the galaxy, this time no ext4 partition, just all fat32.. Copied all my files and a 9gb game (around 14gb in total).
Everything working fine.. On my way home listening some music from the phone and the card unmounted. Restarting the phone got the card mounted again and I was able to copy all the files to my pc.
The card continued to unmount regularly the rest of the day, "card ready to be unmounted" "card broke, need to reformat" "card incorrectly extracted" and the sort of notifications. Until it dismounted and never mounted again.
I don't have any other device to test it right now, but I'm 99% sure that it will work just fine there.
I've read in this forums other people use this SD in this phone with no problems and even recommends it, so it should be compatible.
The card if fine, because it works the S3.. And my phone is fine because the card that came with it is still working perfectly... I just don't know where the issue is.
So.. Why is my phone having problems with this card?
Hi guys I'm having problems with my s4. If I transfer data from phone memory to the memory card it sometimes becomes corrupted or lasts a moment on the card the minute I reset the phone rrandom files are deleted or have there file names changed to different symbols a few weeks ago my 32gb SanDisk card just died completely unusable in any device or card reader if I use the card as a source for my camera it stores the photos but once again only till the card is unmounted or the phone reset. If I transfer from my laptop it is fine and remains on the card I have done a full system reset. Still no luck. I'm now running kit kat and have a 64 go Samsung memory card any help is really appreciated
I think it's a sdcard problem. Could you try another (if possible brand new) sdcard?
I have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SDXC card formatted in exFAT. I had been using the card in my NOTE 2 with no issues. I normally keep all of my movies, music, emulators, and ROMs on it so I can keep space free on my phone. This morning I got my phone setup the way that I wanted it and I decided to install the SD card into the new phone. Everything seemed to go okay, I got a message telling me that it was preparing the card, but after the message disappeared, the SD card was not recognized. There were no error messages regarding the card, it simply did not show any additional storage on the phone and all options regarding the card with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" were not accessible.
I took ejected the card and formatted it to NTFS to see if that would make a difference and when I reinserted it into the (M8), it recognized it as a blank SD card that was not in the proper format. It prompted me to format the card while still installed in the device, which it did without error. After the format was complete I received the same "Preparing SD Card" message that I received before, but after the message disappeared, the card still didn't show up as additional storage.
Through a root browser I have the option to enter extSD, but nothing I put on the card is there. I then took the card back out, installed it into my Note 2 and it worked with no problems at all. Finally I ejected the card, reinstalled it in the (M8) again, it gives me the same prompt as before, but after the message disappears the additional storage does not show up and all options with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" are inaccessible once again.
I have tried the fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310 to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and is there any way that I can solve the problem?

If you have a USB card reader, try formatting the card as FAT32 with your computer.
I believe most cards come pre-formatted as FAT32 by default. I've always just put the cards in my Android devices without any formatting, and they work just fine.
Not sure why the device's default format didn't work, but possibly formatting on a computer will get it working.
It's possible that SD may be dying.
I had a 32gb card that a friend left with me to fill with movies/etc, but since I wasnt going to see them for a while, I decided to use it with my old LGOG. Not 3 days later, I get what you described, and now the card isnt even seen by Windows.
Even with formatting the card, it would work again for a few minutes, but as soon as I tried copying more than ~3 gigs, the card would go corrupt again.
SD cards dont last forever yo.

I just tried it out a few minutes ago. I don't know why, but it's working perfectly fine in Windows, a Note 2, S3, and an S5. I have no idea what's going on, but no matter what I try, nothing makes it work on this phone.

I was able to get the card formatted form exFAT to FAT32 and it looked like it was going to work, same with NTFS. I inserted it into the phone, waited for it to prepare the card and this time I got a message telling me that the SD Card was damaged, but I could format it in the phone. I followed the instructions, just as I had before, it went through it's thing, got to the part where it attempted to mount the card, appeared as though it was going to mount, and then nothing, just like with everything else. I have no idea what's going on.
I ran some tools on it and the card appears to be in good condition, so I have no idea what to do. I don't know if it's the phone, or if it is the card. I'm thinking about buying a 128gb card, but I'm afraid if I do, I'm going to find myself in the exact same position that I'm in now and out a lot of money to boot.
I'm loosing my mind with this thing.
Surely you must know someone that has a MicroSD card you can try. Trying another would pretty much eliminate the card as being the issue (and possibly the card tray or similar component on the phone). I have at least 2 "spare" MicroSD cards laying around.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago and I did format my 64gb card with GUIFORMAT on my win 7 PC and since then no more problem. Here is the link: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/323-gui-format-fat32-drive-formatter/
Thank you. I'll give it a shot right now.

You, sir, just won all my Internets. I don't know what it was about that app, but it worked like a champ the first time around. I don't get it either. I had used so many tools to get it to FAT32, but this one did the trick. I formatted the card, inserted it...was totally waiting for it to not work, and I noticed "Unmount SD Card". I read it and thought "hmmm, that's not right", lol. Then it dawned on me that it worked. Copying folders over to it now. Thanks so much, bud. I really owe you one.

Nice. I've heard that the native Windows formatting tool is not the best (although its always worked fine for me), so this might be one of those instances.

Thanks. I had the same problem with a brand new 128GB card with only this phone (HTC One E8 Dual). Until I found this. So far working like a charm. You ARE a star.
Hello XDA community. This is my first thread and post. I want to start by saying that I'm very grateful for such an awesome community of techies like myself. While I may not be a far invested as some I'm willing to learn and help.
With that being said, I have been having external sd card issues untill today.
I bought an HC 64GB external sd card a week ago and it has been nothing but trouble and problem from the start. At first it seemed everything was fine... Untill I rebooted my phone at which point it decided to erase all my files on the card.. After hours of research I reformatted my card but it would only save about 1/4th of the data at which point it would erase the rest... I also could not run game roms off of the card.
After reformatting and several wasted hours of tinkering with settings and lock switches I decided to buy another different brand SD card (which I got today). As soon as I inserted the adapter into my computer slot I knew the old card was the problem. It copied files to it quickly and flawlessly. It runs my game roms very well. Moral of the story... Before you imagine the problem is bigger than it is try anouther card first..:good:
- What Android OS are you using? (KK, LP, MM and AOSP/Stock)
- Is it a branded or un-branded SD Card? (Unbranded tends to be a POS)
LP 5.0.1 and I do believe the first SD card was an offbrand as it only had an HC on it and no name.
