As the title says should I do it? Xperia Z5 Premium is better than Z2 but the support on Xperia Z5 Pre forums is nearly dead. Abd Xperia Z5 Pre will not get android 8.0 imo becuase no one seems to talk about it on their forums. So should I stay with my Z2?
I don't recommend to do it.. Better buy XZP if u re interested in 4k screens.

I don't mind how my screen looks. If my screen is good enough then I am ok with it. I just wanted to get someone's opinion.
Go with S8/S9 or even the A8. I have lost faith in Sony's camera output, Amoled screen can also be a single reason to switch
No doubt... XZ premium.. True Sony...
Not sure about Z5 premium, but last week, after good few years with it, I upgraded from Z2 (currently Carbon Black ROM) to Z5 dual SIM (stock ROM so far). I like the look of it, how it handles, how fast and responsive it is. Fingerprint reader is an added bonus.
Brand new unlocked Z5 phone is aprox 290USD in my country. I would say you get quite a good spec for your moneys. Most of my friends have their Huawei and Lenovo crap, despite being few years old Z5 still shines here.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers
Buy a Oneplus 5t or wait for the 6. its cheaper and has flagship specs better than the lastest xz
So let me ask this question in a diffrent way then... Should I switch to Z5P if I am getting it for free?

I mean I am student and my dad bought a new phone for himself and he asked me If I wanted to switch to his Z5P. I am just scared of the support on Z5P xda forum. Because there only a few developers working on that phone but Z2 has many developpers working for it. So if the situation is now clear should I use Z5P as my daily phone or keep using Z2?

If i were you i would keep my Z2 as i dont like sony stock firmware as it runs slow and lags for me, I dont know about the Z5 premium if it lags or not but developer support is a must in my case
The developers support is the problem, although xz premium has less developers than other devices
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
If you look at developers support..a phone developer support starts when the company ends support for the device... Looking at Z2, from 2014 to 2016 though there is developers working at various roms, infact for stability most of us preferred staying on stock rom and only few people who unlocked bootloader to experiment with latest android and new features ported from flagship devices... Since Z2 was one hell of a flagship it didn't need much working on..just a latest version rom satisfy but on the same hand stock rom also new and was pretty happy to have all stock features.
And Z2 wasn't laggy or slow and it's smooth as butter all days long. Towards end of 2016 when Sony said end of support, then starts people like us frequently visiting XDA for new roms with latest version, latest security patch. Also more developers starts getting involved to take Z2 to a new height to keep it updated and last long.
Likewise Z5 premium which is not laggy or slow has got nougat and end of Sony support is happening.. So from this year end onwards there will b developers getting involved more to bring new roms nd features to the Z5 premium.
One problem is we don't want to lose Z5 premium 4K features and other stock functions.. For that we need to stay on stock rom. There is custom alternatives for Z5 premium and few mods can enhance stock usability of that phone.
If u ask why z5 premium not that popular is bcos of its snapdragon 810 chipset which was a failure when launched bcos of overheating and battery issues... 810 easily heats up... Sony did made updates to control overheating by downgrading performance. Still losing a single 1% performance is not acceptable for people like us..
So now there's d answer solving all problem, getting that rich premium feel and big 4K with snapdragon 835. And that is XZ premium..
If u don't overuse the phone Z5 premium is ur best friend for life. Otherwise XZ premium if u can ask dad to buy it. Or exchange Z2 but I don't think there is much resale value for Z2 in 2018.
If Current Z2 has not much problem then use it for 1 more year... Snapdragon 801 is performing well above expectation comparing to newer phones on market.. Except latest android....
Still it's ur call...

I know how to XZ premium feels becuase he had bought it for himself asked me if I wanted to switch to his Z5P. So I read what you have written and I will keep my Z2 for now and watch the Z5P forum if it gets any atention by developers. Only thing I can complain about Z2 is it's cameras. Main camera used to be good but after many years some scratches appread on the camera lens so the quality of my pictures dropped a little bit but the main camera is still usable. Frontal camera was bad and still bad so nothing I can do about that. So the Z5P will stay as a backup phone for now and maybe I will switch to it as the time goes on.

Hi all!
First of all I wish to thanks in advance for any of you who may stop by, and provide some tips, experience
regarding the next matter, advice request:
My context is that I am completely noob regarding choosing android phone.
I want to get my first one, but a low budget, and I thought about Sony Xperia Tipo, cause it uses Android ICS,
and its hardware specs are some better than comparing to others of similar budget as LG Optimus L3, Samsung Galaxy Mini
( phonearena.com/phones/compare/LG-Optimus-L3,Samsung-GALAXY-mini,Sony-Xperia-tipo/phones/6941,5147,7151 )
I already discarded going for Vodafone Smart II, cause after reading its thread in XDA (around 30 pages), despite it was posible
to be rooted at first, in 1 month the new versions have been capped by cel companies (the recovery, the fastboot etc), at least for Spain, Portugal versions, therefore the customization is getting quite impossible, or very random depending the version, the cel company, ...
I think the main problem it is that this Xperia Tipo has been released quite very recently,
and after been searching through forum about info for rooting the Xperia Tipo, I can't find any info about it :S.
So my 2 questions are:
- it is expected that Xperia Tipo will be rooted in a near future ( and therefore customizable with
ROMs ...) ?
- Taking in count any answer to this question, would you suggest to go for it,
or by other hand go for Samsung Galaxy Mini (despite it has worse HW, Android GingerBread,
BUT it has quite plenty support for rooting and flashing with custom ROMs) ?
Again thanks in advance for any advice, and excuse the long post! )
Cheers!
ive used this phone after recomending it for someone else. Its a great cheap ICS phone dont expect it to be really fast or to play excellant games but it is really good for the price under £100!!!. would i recomend it to someone else after using it YES!!!! just remember to clear the apps your not using from the RAM by pressing the Home key and holding it and swiping it to close it so it doesnt get laggy.
as for root im not a dev but im safley sure it will be rooted in the future as its got a SD card slot so its easier to install CWM recovery etc.
BUT it is new out and dont expect it to happen any time soon i have the Xperia U and thats been out ages now and i still dont have root it just takes time for the devs to get the phones and then to start work on them.
hope it helped

Thanks for the tip!
Being cheap phone is ok, in fact that is what I seek for, a low budget phone as a start point, looking for customization.
Well, I could get that Xperia Tipo for £48, while the Samsung Galaxy Mini would cost £32. HW (CPU, inbuilt mem, display res) difference and phone release date diff, explain the price difference, hehe.
I was tempted to get Vodafone Smart II (for £48, I think), but atfer reading this whole thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722811 , I found that it is a lottery, if I could get it rooted or not :S
My main doubt is if going for Samsung Galaxy Mini cause its great support in matters of rooting and customization, or expect that Xperia Tipo will get some nice support here in XDA, in the future ...
A third choice could be LG Optimus L3 which has worse display res, same price as Xperia Tipo, and it has some support here at forum for rooting and ROMs.
Regarding your Xperia U, I think there is quite nice support in this site, forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1728 , so you mention you still having probs to root it ?
I have just returned my Tipo today due to very poor reception. If you just want a phone to make calls and send texts then it should be more than adequate but if you are going to use it for browsing or games I would find something with a stronger processor as it can be very laggy after using it a while - even in menus. However the touchscreen is responsive and the display should be OK for making calls and texting but I found it very washed out when viewing pics etc. On my particular handset I could hear electrical interference through the headphones but this could be related to my reception fault I guess. If you can I advise you try it out before making a decision - if ur in the UK o2 shops usually have all there the phones on display switched on. If music is important to you the sound quality is very budget. Also the camera has no flash or autofocus. Tbh if it wasn't for the Sony xperia branding on the front I would have though this was a cheap chinese no-name handset as Sony really have cut costs on this one.
I can't comment on the Samsung but I have read bad things about the lg. Have you considered the Motosmart from Motorola. It has a similar spec to the tipo but at least the camera has a flash and its root able (running gingerbread)

I bought this phone a week ago. It's very nice for the price!. It isn't laggy, It has plenty of ram. Obviously it isn't so fast as would be needed for a device to play games, and doesn't have a big screen (or an hires one) if you have to surf the web a lot, but handles with no problems at all divx streaming from my pc, using mx-player. It's clearly better than vodafone smart_II and my device hasn't reception problems at all. The battery (this is a good point in my opinion) it's 1500mah just better than the usual 1200mah used in low-end devices
The camera can make decent photos but hasn't flash or aufocus at all & no front camera just like all the cheap phones.
BTW i think it's one of the best ICS devices avaiable here in Italy for about 150€.
I tried samsung galaxy mini too and this experia is a lot better in my opninion.
I have been using the mobile for more than a month... It's perfect .. Go for it... It is the best in the range... I do use it a lot and it has held up against everything... Custom ROM will be available veeeeeeeeeeeery soon... It is already rooted...

Hey, I just found out that Sony wont provide us with a Jellybean update:
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/product...rades-jelly-bean-for-2012-xperia-smartphones/
This is really bad, because they promised 18 months of updates, and thats one of the main reasons why I did buy this phone, so no more Sony phones for me after this phone.
Sad

I found it not surprising for Sony doing that. They're late to the game now even for flagship devices.
Most of consumers not even want the update or know about it, only us screaming and crying is not enough force. And most of consumers will screaming and crying with update broke their device so rom need to be bug free to release, it cost a lot sop they dont bother.
I personal think Sony should have 'for experimental testing only' rom release without any warranty when they can not release the official one, I'm sure it take much less effort and can satisfy the community at good-enough level.

not expect Xperia 2011 to 4.1 but still disappointed with sony
Yes it sucks... no official JB for all 2011 devices
will xs get JB?
It's a flagship one.
Sony Mobile has this morning confirmed that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its new Xperia devices (Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V) will start to receive the update from the middle of Q1 2013. Sony Xperia devices that launched earlier this year including the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1 in “due course”. Looks like Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, Xperia tipo dual, Xperia sola and Xperia U users are excluded.
We suspect that the JB launch for the other 2012 Xperia models could take as long as early Q2 2013, given that no concrete information has been given. It’s hard not to commend Sony Mobile for updating many of its mid-range handsets along with their higher-end models. However, Xperia sola and Xperia U owners will rightfully be arguing why they won’t be seeing the update. It’s certainly not a question of hardware specification.

Well, the problem is that unlocked bootloader is an obligatory requirement for using JB custom ROMs. The point of expecting official JB from SONY is because devs. could get official drivers too, so they could cook ROMs for locked and unlocked bootloaders... Or at least that's what I think. There are some people who just can't or don't want to unlock the bootloader, one of them is me.
The reason why I bought a Ray is because I'm (somehow) a SONY fan. In fact, I was going to buy Neo but in the SONY store in my city they didn't have it in stock anymore, so I liked Ray and I got it. Their handsets are beautiful and reliable on their performance. A friend of mine has a Galaxy Ace and that phone is terrible, he has problems with his modem in his house, the phone doesn't connect to it (my Ray does without problems). Plus, no ICS ROMS for it. My business partner has a Samsung Galaxy SII and that piece of s**t is busted, it shows that is charging battery when the phone isn't even plugged! And it doesn't last more than 5 hours...
SONY (and SE) phones have never gave me that kind of problems. But yeah, it's really lame not getting JB, I guess SONY devs weren't smart enough to make project butter to work fine in 2011 line, or it's because all the damn bloatware they want to push affected the performance at the point the phone was a total slowpoke.Or, it's a lame strategy, getting ride of your current device to get a 2012, or even a 2013 one. Whatever is the reason, this is a bad new and a low move from SONY.
Personally, I was going to get Xperia V, but with the rumored prototypes (Odin and Yuga) I'd rather to wait, my Ray still has so much to give and when I get a new phone I want to feel I'm getting a real big upgrade.
Or I dunno, maybe the next Nexus isn't from Samsung anymore... I'd give it a chance
Doesn't matter.... its like we are sticking with a 1ghz phone for a long time since there a cheap dual core phones out there... so I guess its okay and who cares about jb on a 3.3 inch phone
dreezz said:

The problem is that custom rom cookers don't have the latest libs for the HDMI and camera, for example, so they can't get them to work properly or at all. And while Sony has released all the libs for the Xperia S to the custom community, they won't do that for the Xperia 2011 line. So, no official nor unofficial solution for getting a 100% usable JB, though the handsets are fully capable of running it even better than ICS.
It's no possible for devs export it from XS?
I think XS will have jellybean or not?

Link to my opinion...............
If you're okay with the fact that this phone will not get JB, go ahead.
In my opinion, wait one month or two, all the phones announced on this CES '13 will start to be realeased by then and a lot of phones will come very cheap with a lot of funcionality.
I don't use officall updates only cm releases
Things are important for me:
Camera quality
Custom rooms
Design
And new phones comes late and they will be expensive in my country

camera quality is great.........
many custom ROMs for this device............
-the camera sucks for me sincerely (a lot of noise, slow autofocus and camera key has a bad feedback)
-dev support pretty good (a lot of roms, CM9 nearly stable CM10 in working)
-beautiful design, no plastics noise, fantastic rubberizzed body
-display fantastic, great resolution and brightness
-audio speaker with low volume but has a clean sound, speaker phone has a low volume but high quality, dual microphone works very well
these are my opinions
1. Normal camera without fantastic quality
2. Good display
3. Pretty perfomance, but not enough RAM
4. JB will be from CM and other dev teams based on rom from SXP
I bought my Xperia Sola about a month ago
I am really enjoying this phone, and I think it is definately worth the money it costs
take in mind it won't be updated to JB officialy EVER.
Would defiantely recommend, if you can add a little cash and go for Xperia S or Galaxy S Advance, also not a bad option.
If you want to use it for the internet - no - worst battery EVER. If you don't need the internet, maybe.
P.s. I had the Mini too -way better battery.
If you're planning to use CM releases, then this will qualify as a phone.
Stock is just horrible as it can't function as a phone: Lag when people call. Crashes when SMS arrives.

I'm thinking of buying the Xperia U but I have a few questions.
How is the call sound quality, headphone quality and loudspeaker quality like?
How is the screen quality like and how are the graphics like on high end HD games?
Is the browsing very fast on this phone? Does zooming in and out on desktop websites lag a lot?
Has anyone's screen stopped working or has their been any hardware failures that have happened to a lot of xperia u's?
Finally, how long do you think it will be before the phone becomes out of date? I want to use it for maybe 3 years after purchase so I need to know if it is future proof.
Sorry for asking so many questions but I want to be entirely sure the phone is ideal for me. Thanks if you bothered to read this far and double thanks if you answered any of my questions.

I would recommend you to increase the budget a bit and buy Xperia P instead Xperia U.
Cause 1GB RAM will give you better smoothness than XU's 512 MB RAM.
Also SONY is still keeping XP in their mind while releasing Official updates like JB. [XU have Unofficial JB Port]
No offense to the XU users. It's just what i think that while buying android handset, it's better to go for a better hardware spec. Off course if u plan to increase your budget.
Guy above is right, i still regret buying xperia sola, when i could pay 30 more euros and buy xperia p... It is MUCH better and worth the money... I also think that its developing community is more active than xperia u... No offense of course
Also, u should know that a device like mine it is said that because sony reached the target of sales for this device, now they dont give a damn about it.... We all rely on xda to get jelly bean while xperia P DOES HAVE official jelly bean from sony...
Finally, technology is evolving SO FAST that u need to buy an expensive device so that it can compete with future device... (my opinion)
Does the extra 512MB RAM make a big difference from xperia u to xperia p? The processor and GPU are the same but stuff like screen and camera is better on the xperia p
Trust me, xperia sola with 512 mb of ram barely gives 150mb available, logically xperia p should give u at LEAST 300 mb of free ram...
As far as i know, true gaming devices must have at least 1gb of ram...
Any other comments on the Xperia u? What do you use it for on a daily basis?
If u dont play heavy games then it will do the job BUT IF U:
1) Are sure that 4 gb of storage is not enough (like me). Remember xperia u cannot take sd card...
2) Want to play heavy games, i am pretty sure that xperia p will do better
If u meet either the first or second condition then i urge u to buy xperia p but if u dont then feel free to buy xperia p... My sola is the same as xperia u but i can use an sd card and i must say that since i am not a hard core gamer it does the job pretty damn well
Does the xperia p have a slightly yellow tinted screen? In some videos I have seen the the white looks slightly yellow. Can anyone with an xperia P confirm whether the white is pure white or tinted yellow? Also, after upgrading the firmware to jellybean on Xperia P, do you get various problems with apps such as gallery app not working and does the phone lag or does it get faster? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure before I purchase it

Actually there is no device exists which is completely error free. You just have to make it right by your self. The situation is quite same for Android Update also. Check the General Section, you will find a thread there named as - Xperia P JB Review.
Many users posted there JB experience there. That should be useful for you. And as for the Yellow Tint, Sony took care of that issue, after first few shipments of all of their models.
Hey guys ! I'm Running rooted and S-off HTC Incredible S. Its okay but outdated now. We are fully up to date in software, but the hardware is behind. Looking for a new phone is so difficult right now..
I have a budget of $300-$400 Aus. Samsung SIII is a little old now, N4 has no storage.. I wandering is Sony a good option? Would you recomend any Sony device in that price range?
Thanks

Hahahaha there is nothing called as future-proof..U is already outdated, maybe you should go for P instead.
I have doubt in getting satisfaction with recent releases sony device, compared to my x10i.
Also, the reason behind this change over is due to heating and restarting issue for past few days.
Even, After back to stock rom and relocking the bootloader perfect baseband flashes. Nothing helps me to ride out of this issue.
Hopefully, i concluded that it should be a hardware issue.
So, i need to miss my x10i badly :'(
If you can please suggest me for good change over.
thankyou mates!

I've currently got a xperia T (the forgotten flagship) awesome phone with awesome hardware, I haven't looked back in regret when I updated to it.
I would recommend the xperia Z as it has better Dev support and it's new

Still using my XPERIA X10i with 64GB Class10 SanDisk(3months use), overclocked CPU with root access and 1800mAh Mugen power battery.(1 - 5days battery life)
It's now become a music/media phone with Neutron Music/XiiaLive/Video players and a mobile file server.
Syllable G18 Bluetooth headphones keep the phone sounding sweet.
Thinking how good my XPERIA X10i still is, I thought, gee, the XPERIA L must be heaps better....
Hmm... that may lose some of the sparkle when one looks a bit closer..
XPERIA L appears to only support Class 6 MicroSD cards and maybe nothing over 32GB.
USB-OTG doesn't seem to be supported from what I read.
Sony is indicating the XPERIA SP needs to be referred to service support if touch screen issues are noted, so indicates HW issuse and not something a SW patch can fix.
Have an XPERIA S and that's in a world of pain after JB upgrade, where XDA Developers will probably be left to pick up the pieces if Sony doesn't address the many voices of dismay.
Third JB update mooted for early July, so it may not all end in tears.
Sony is not at it's best at the moment with firmware updates, but I'm sure they'll want to prove us doubters wrong. :fingers-crossed:
Given the above, I may enjoy my XPERIA X10i for a while longer before it is retired.
Still have 20GB of my SDcard left to fill....

You may be onto something there.
I can purchase an XPERIA LT25i for approx USD350.00 which is less than what I'd paid for an XPERIA LT26i
The XPERIA V has all the 'modern' features and an S4 Snapdragon chipset with an Adreno 225
The XPERIA V also has a good chance of getting Android 4.3 as the Adreno 225 supports OpenGL ES 3.0
Pity I already have an XPERIA S. [mumbling something about JB 4.1.2]
I saw a post were some dude in Asia lost his XPERIA V at the beach in the ocean while videoing and it kept on videoing for some time after it was lost.
It was found and returned to the owner some days later after being dragged from the ocean. All still working and the under water video was on YouTube. Can't say better than that.
XPERIA i1 HONAMI ... THE NEXT YEAR
