Isn't it supposed to have FM radio. I dint see any player app

(1) the SM-G965U and SM-G965U1 have an FM radio chip. Other variants might as well.
(2) even if you do have the chip, there are missing drivers for some variants (like the SM-G965U1), which Samsung said they'd fix
(3) even if you do have the chip and the drivers, you need a third party app to play music. I like NextRadio. You'll know if it's working if you get the option in NextRadio to switch off streaming entirely and only use the FM chip

I know they're not entirely reliable, but the Samsung rep I spoke with said all variants have the chip, unlocked devices without being carrier specific have a bug disabling the chip which will be corrected soon.
I also spoke with a representative from NextRadio that concurred and the two companies are working on the fix.

i live in Italy for example but i've bought my S9+ Unlocked from Samsung . com (US Store) and used forwarder to send it to me. I always use FM because a lot of soccer talks running in Italy and because Sony camera sensors are better that Samsung one .
To have Qualcomm Snapdragon inside device is too better than have Exynos for a lot of reasons ...
European S9 / S9+ with Exynos don't have officially any FM chip inside device and this is a disaster ....

Is your unlocked FM chip active? I've seen people flashing tmobile firmware on an unlocked which made the chip active.

And there's where I heard that from! Nice and thanks for the info. That gave me a bit of relief that there was hope for my chip! And actually what got me to click the help button in NextRadio app to question the chip! Figured the more complaints, maybe they'll see it's bigger than a couple of devices.

I have a Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime with exynos. I have a custom rom which did not have an FM Radio app. I unpacked the stock rom and found Hybrid Radio which I copied to my phone - I now have radio! (Next radio does not work)
Hi everyone... I am pretty new in using samsung, i do not know how to toggle between keyboard and numpad while writing messages. Info please..... thanks
Is there another apk (other than nextradio) that works on the s9+ (USA/Snapdragon chip)? I need one that will record the fm radio (not via the internet, but the actual old fashioned radio) and it will install on a stock non-rooted OS. Can anyone help to post that apk here?
Mine s9plus g965f it doesn't has radio app.
And i belive don't have radio at all.
If it has locked radio how i can unlocked?

For those that have been lucky enough to have received the i747 model, are you able to determine if there is an FM Radio tuner on it? I checked out the LTE i747 yesterday at the Samsung launch party in Toronto but I beleive they were pre-production models and firmware and did NOT have the FM app. Now whether the tuner exists but the app was removed or not added is a different story.
As many of you know, the international model has the FM tuner. In the past, the international model i9000 and i9100 also had it but the North American variants did not. I am not sure if the fm hardware tuner is located on the CPU itself and does not come onboard the s4 chip, or if AT&T and other carriers have decided to remove it.
In the specs for the i747, most sites list the Fm Radio as TBD for this model. I don't use the radio a lot, but it is nice sometimes. Also, it uses barely any battery and no data to use. So I am very curious if the FM app is there. And if not, I wonder if we could just extract the app from i9300 and move it to this model - which would require the i747 to have the hardware tuner of course.
There doesn't seem to be a FM app - So no direct access that I could see. Doesn't mean its not there though.
Not sure if it will work, but here is the apk from the international version.

Thanks for posting the apk. It may require root as it is a system app but will defintiely try it when I get mine next week. I am fairly certain the HTC One X had the same thing where the FM Radio exists but the apk was not added to the AT&T firmware. People can grab the APK from the Rogers firmware and install it to their AT&T One X. So now that I think about it, if HTC One X has the hardware tuner and using an S4 chip, its completely possible that the hardware will be there on the i747 as well. Some carriers may have it removed so that you'll use data to listen to the radio instead.
Won't install - but after root we may be able to
.... Surely AT&T didn't screw the hardware of of FM AGAIN
I also couldnt get that file to install, so instead i went to the market and downloaded just about every one i could find, and none of them worked. Many of them appeared to be working but not a single bit of sound out of the speakers/headset.
I believe they removed the FM Tuner hardware and instead, gave us the tunein app.
Yea so you use more data streaming data over their network

I doubt that was their goal. AT&T didnt give us the 50GB of dropbox because they were afraid of everyone eating bandwidth and causing a network catastrophe like when the first iPhone came out. So i think its safe to assume that this was Samsungs move. They didnt give us the quad core because of incompatibilities with the LTE networks, so instead they gave us the Snapdragon S4 and compensated with an extra gig of ram.
They also removed the FM Radio, so i think they compensated by giving us the TuneIn Radio.... kinda lame....
I used the i9100 prior to picking up my new SGH-747M from Rogers yesterday. The i9100 had FM radio. The antenna was built into the headphones and there was an application on the phone. I noticed the SGH-747 headphones looked slightly different and wasn't sure if they would work.
I downloaded the international FM APK but it won't install even after my device has been rooted.. My guess is that the headphones that come with the i747 probably won't have an FM antenna built in though.

Hi all,
I'm a proud owner of Samsung Galaxy S and I have been using it last 22 months. I could have recontacted my phone for free last month (end of 21 months) but I was eagerly waiting to get the Galazy S3 LTE version. I'm with Singtel Singapore.
Finally last Saturday they released and I found out that that version don't have FM Radio. It's a International Quad Core with 2GB Ram seems. I really miss FM Radio. I'm a radio fan (Yeah still )
So my question is FM Radio supports depends on Hardware? (I'm not talking about streaming. Real radio we have in S, S2 and can be use even without data). Is it like they removed some chip so it's no longer possible? Or just some software related things which can be fixable in the future?
Can anyone shed some lights on this issue for me? Thanks!
I searched Internet and I found a interesting pattern. It seems all Samsung LTE variants doesn't have FM Radio. In Singapore I checked Galaxy S2 LTE and Galaxy Note LTE and both don't have.
Anyone from US or other countries can confirm this? There are lot of other countries S3 LTE released long ago. Can you confirm you have or not? Also is there anyone have FM Radio with LTE version? I read somewhere Korean version have it but I don't know how true that news....
Also my initial question is it a Hardware thing?
There is an app called Spirit FM that has a thread here on XDA. Basically its a root app that supports FM radio on as many devices as possible and there is a listing there of what devices support it and what devices lack hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of that app and even tried on my Galaxy S.
But my question is FM support depends on hardware (Like a fm receiver) or purely depends on software? Why LTE phones don't have FM radio?
Anyone from Kore confirms whether they have the FM radio in LTE version??
There is a radio which actually depends on mobile signal whether it is gsm or lte and there are also radio which depends on hardwares, like fm/am radio transceivers, however on some phones like those with tv apps and radio apps most likely on phone with dual sims and with adjustable antennas (like an aluminum rod which is connected to radio chips itself and adjustable, or you can see this at the back of the phone, they are software and hardware related. As for the phone which supports lte signal, maybe some of them dont have it but most of them have, i got one on my phone and without earplugs, it cannot be switch on but once earphones or external speakers have been connected it would start scanning signals, unlike those with built in hardwares they can however with the use of the adjustable antennas.
If however i am wrong on my info, i would be glad to be corrected.

Hi Alex, Thats'w a bad news to hear Anyway there is no way and just have to live with it. Thanks for the information...
BTW which version phone you have? Korean?
I downloaded the Next Radio app and it works.
I even disabled data and WiFi to make sure it was only using FM radio and it worked, unlike my Axon 7 where it seem FM receiver locked and only works with Data or WiFi.
Just in case anyone else didn't know this was a possibility, as I didn't initially.
for how long did you leave wifi and cell data off for?
I can confirm this works. Disabled WiFi, data, cleared cache and data of next radio, plugged headphones in and it works! N950W (Canada version with Snapdragon)

Not long. I turns off days and wifi then tested the radio and changed through several radio stations with no issues. My Axon 7 would not play local station s with WiFi and data disabled. So it appears to be working.
Maybe I'll test again tonight when I get home.
BTW I'm on the AT&T Note 8, though that shouldn't make I difference.

Yes, Snapdragon version. I believe only the Snapdragon version has the FM tuner so the exynos version won't work with FM radio.
And yes I believe the Snapdragon version is locked down and not rootable so far. But that's not a big deal to me.
The easiest way to check if the phone uses FM radio or wifi/cell network is to disconnect headphones, FM radio needs headphones wire as antenna and it won't work without it unless maybe if you live right under FM tower, also if you're far away from the station you may hear FM interference. BTW working FM radio was confirmed way back, couple days after first sets reached customers, before 9/10 I think.
I am on Verizon and i can confirm it works and it is relying on the antenna unless I click the stream button.i also bunched up the headphones in my hand and put it on output to speaker and there is static on the weaker stations.

All the other FM radio apps seem to use data instead of the tuner chip in the Snapdragon SOC.
I like the simple tuner app on my LG V20. It allows my to long press or hit a time button to get the next in time station. NextRadio seem to your your location and data to give you a list of stations and info.
I'm going to see if I can find an APK for the V20 tuner and try it on my Note 8.
I am also interested in a real simple tuner app. Let me know if you come across any good ones

Well my brother has S8 Plus G955U (Snapdragon) and nextradio dosent work. Thats why i want to know which version of Note 8 are really working. I need to listen FM Radio because of my job. I read N955W does it, but which one else? Thanks
SM-N950U works, bought directly from Samsung for t-mobile
Also have the SM-N950U but mine is an AT&T device. I would imagine the FM Radio works on all Snapdragon Note 8, but that's just an assumption.
Not sure why your brother S8 Plus. Did he have headphones attached? I don't really know much about the S8 line move looked into that model.
My s8 from t-mobile worked fine, so is N8 from t-mo. I think all US models are N950U and Snapdragon, so all should work, but as I already mentioned it could be blocked by particular service provider, BUT as far as I know, even if you have phone from T-mo or Verizon, you could flash it with different software and probably unlock it, even if it is locked. So the answer to your question may not be as simple as it seems. Also, which service your brothers S8+ came from? Is it Verizon? Because in the past they liked to make life of their customers miserable, like not allowing any non Verizon phone on their network, just to give an example.
I have just received the unlocked S9+ from Samsung today. I noticed that it does not have any FM app so I downloaded the NextRadio app. However, when I launched the app, it does not detect any FM chip and can only stream. I know the both the S8 and S8+ have native FM chip.

Good to hear, I sent them a message as well since mine appears to not be active either. Blows!
I have an S9+ unlocked that I flashed to the T-Mobile (US) firmware variant, and now FM radio works. Just a bug in the firmware on the unlocked phones I assume.

Hello everybody. I'm a newcomer here, and own the Samsung Galaxy A 52 5G (model SM-A526B/DS).
Unlike other Samsung devices I own or have owned, there's no radio app on it so far.
I've found several contradictory information about this on the net : some pages state there's an FM chip on the motherboard of the device, and others state the opposite.
So I'd like to know if someone here has the right answer. I don't want to use my data nor to empty my battery listening to radio apps, whereas former devices allowed me to listen to radio using only my headphones.
I also read somewhere - don't remember where, sorry - that rooting the device allowed one to use F-Droid (which I already installed for other purposes) to install a radio app called Spirit. But I first need to know if there's a radio chip on it, or it would have no interest otherwise. Though I intend to root the phone... one of these days...
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi, there's no FM radio chip on A52 5G.
Yes, there is.
I own an A526B/DS and it has an FM radio and the Radio app preinstalled. Maybe it's a regional thing? I have the UK model if that makes a difference. But I can 100% confirm that my A52 5G has a working FM radio as seen by the attached screenshot.

Thank you for your answer. As you said, maybe it's a regional thing : I'm in France. I sent Samsung a mail, and am waiting for the answer.
I wrote Samsung an inquiry mail, and just received an answer. I paste the translation here :
"
[...] I am following up on your message about the possibility of listening to the radio directly on your smartphone without using an Internet connection. To do this, your mobile must have an FM receiver. This chip, directly integrated into the motherboard of your phone, will allow you to pick up the waves emitted by the radios.
Some smartphones do not have an FM receiver.
Your Samsung Galaxy A52 5G does not have Radio.
The Radio application no longer exists. This is not a malfunction of your phone. When updates are made, some of the old features disappear to make room for new ones, depending on the memory of the device.
If your smartphone does not have an FM receiver, you can always turn to podcast services. Most major radio stations offer this type of offline listening.
- Open your web browser;
- Type in the URL of your favourite FM station;
- Then select the podcast section in the navigation menu.
In addition, the phone can work with third-party online radio applications that require an internet connection.
In the Play Store you will find a multitude of radio applications to choose from.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I wish you a pleasant day!
Sincerely yours, [...]"
So it seems to be a regional thing indeed. I should have bought and ordered mine in the UK...
Maybe Ill be able to use Spirit if I root the device. But I won't ask Samsung about it...
Thanks for the answres anyhow.
And a 2nd mail from Samsung taught me today it's a territorial restriction indeed : the Australian version for instance has got this radio chip...
