This has been hounding me since EMUI 3.1 and now there's an easy way to solve it by exploiting a bug in the widget handling.
Maybe you've seen it before. You choose another launcher and you get EMUI icons. Then you choose another icon pack, or none, or system - and you end up with blank icons.
Get an add-on launcher like Nova (free) or Smart Launcher 3 Pro. If you're already using one, SAVE YOUR SETUP in the launcher.
In the launcher settings, choose system, default, or none for the icon style.
Now add the the first Weather widget shown in the upper left, your selection method may vary by launcher -

Your screen will freak out for a moment and give you a scary warning about the launcher being no good and tell you to uninstall it. Cancel/ignore that.
You'll now be in the stock EMUI launcher with stock Oreo or default icons for everything.
Go to settings, apps, the other launcher, storage, and clear cache and data. If you want to use that launcher, bring it back up and restore the backup.
Either way, regardless of the launcher you choose, you'll be free of the EMUI icons - except for the Huawei/honor apps - and you won't need to mess with custom themes for that.
Hope that helps.

I was wondering if someone could please help explain to me how to go about resizing my desktop icons? I've downloaded some GO themes that include larger icons and are easy to replace--the icons were big enough to cover the icon label text. I don't have the experience to mess with rooting, and would like to have the "cubed icons" I found big enough as well, but when I insert them using Astro file manager, they're small and don't cover the icon labels. I am new to Android and am using GO Launcher EX. I have known for a couple of years that the best work and insight comes from XDA. Thanks.

ADWLauncher has the setting for size of icons, and a bunch of other settings to change the way they look.
I'll look into that launcher, but I would like to maintain GO Launcher EX...if it's possible.

Ideally, I'd like to have my cubed icons the size of the Firefox icon in the pic...again remaining with GO Launcher EX.

So for anyone who might be looking for this same thing, Desktop Visualizer is the best option I've found. It can take a little time to go through all of the icons and set them up, but ultimately it will give you the ability to size icons and route them to whatever shortcut/app you'd like. You could even get rid of app labals as well, if you wanted to. Here's what I was able to do.

Posting this here since I don't yet have 10 posts. I keep losing my main dock maybe once or twice a day. I have CM7.2 w 1.3OC kernal. Sometimes when i go to tap Go SMS which i have in my main dock(5 icons) i lose the dock, the trash can appears and i have to reboot. When i reboot GoSMS icon is gone and have to reload to the dock from AD. Other than this the ROM is rock solid and fast as heck. 4600 quadrant scores. I am very grateful to the devs like jokersax and cougar for graciously sharing their work. thanks for any info you can provide. Here's a screenshot of the result. As you can see this time the icon got duplicated somehow.

Are you using the stock ADW launcher or GO launcher.
There's a few settings where you can turn off the hidden dock. Sometimes it's triggered with a long press or double tap. See if the hide dock is set to any of the settings in adwlauncher setting >general behavior
To restore or turn it off.
Settings>adwlauncher>UI settings> Hidden dockbar settings.
For go launcher, idk maybe someone can help with that on.
Thanks cougar. Yes, I'm using the ADW launcher not go launcher. Only checkmark in Hidden Dockbar menu is "Dockbar". Two others are unchecked.

No, it's like a football game without a foot
what happened to the gingerbread version?
We know that most people are not fan of Samsung's Touchwiz UI, because of its laggy and has a lot of bloat, But many of us do like the look and its style . So this is a really simple guide is for those who are on CM based custom rom and want to experience Latest Touchwiz look without giving up on performance front.
Prerequisites:
Phone- Your device must be running any CM based custom rom
Apps-
1- Nova Launcher (Latest Version) Here
2- CM Touchwiz Theme Here
3- Xwidget Here
Download above apps and follow the below Guide:
1: install all the apps
2: set the cm touchwiz theme
3: download galaxy 5 widget in Xwidget app
4: Set nova launcher as your default launcher
5: configure nova launcher like this:
Desktop> Scroll indicator> choose the dotted one
Dock> check Label Icons
Dock> Dock Height> Set it large (keep it default if you like that way)
Look and Feel> Icon theme> Sytem
Look and Feel> Icon Font> Condensed
Keep the rest default, change it only if you want
6: Get back to Homescreen , set xwidget galaxy s5 widget
Done!!!
Now you have Galaxy S5 or Touchwiz look without giving up your custom ROM features and performance

Nice [emoji51]
Sometimes the homescreen fails to load. It just shows the wallpaper and status bar. Normally there are widgets and apps. Any idea why? I'm using Nova Launcher but on other phones it worked fine.

it's a weird bug with the pixel 6/Android 12 and third party launchers, I experience the same thing with Niagara launcher and have yet to find any solution to it
YES!! I thought I was the only one experiencing this. Also using Nova and 12L on Pixel 6.
Make sure that you are using Nova launcher version 7.0.57

Looking at your home screen and the notifications. It looks like you have a lot running tasks in the background.
Find out which app or mod is interfering with Nova.
I am using Nova with root and the basics, without issues.
I have the same issue in a ZTE Axon 40
Everytime I swipe up to go home, if I make a quick press after the swipe, the home screen goes blank nd I have to swipe up again to recover the icons and widgets
