Hey I just heard from digit.in that xiaomi is rolling MIUI 9.5 based on Android 7.0 to 30 of it's devices including our beloved redmi 3s series. If nothing went wrong, it would be released within few days.I think we can expect some more roms for our devices now. Cheers:laugh:
Yeah it really must be truth. Stable 7.0 without testing in dev builds.
Here it is. As you see still 6.0 and yeah, still almost year old security patch.

Was my first Xiaomi, and now is my last!!!!
Never never Xiaomi again!!
Guys they sell great value for money products.. u can always change the software but what matters is the hardware.
Take the example of leco le max 2 it has snapdragon 820 at a price range of 10500 at banggoods, no one can match.. To its performance per dollar ?..
But still 6.1
?
I am cool with my phone and thank xiaomi because of it selling so many phones we have got such a great community on xda..
I have my pixel but still use my redmi 3s as it being my first phone.

Someone actually know when would android nougat be available on this device?
its a shame, that they not even update the security patch level: still from 04/2017!!!
Otherwise:
i love MIUI - i don't need Nougat/Oreo...
everything work perfekt for me. But Performance and Akku is better in LOS and co...
yup I really hate xiaomi for not providing at least one android upgrade and for this ancient security patch. the moderators on miui forum are very rude one word against xiaomi and baaaam instant ban. They are bootlickers of xiaomi. I also hate ugly round green coloured notification toggles. and with every stable update new bloatwares and no option to remove them and also plenty full of ads
Never

Xiaomi is fooling us by upadting MIUI version. They are not updating Android version.
To everyone complaining about miui. It's true that it's a bad OS but not ****ty. As a matter of fact, MIUI is far more stable than any of the custom ROMs available. Xiaomi instead of bumping the android version from marshmallow, keeps increasing the stability with marshmallow which isn't bad. And those suffering from bloatware, use modded miui like Xiaomi.eu or miuipro.
Official MIUI with Android 7.0 or higher will NEVER come to the 3S. Just flash official LineagOS 14.1, is as stable as the stock ROM, you'll have decent notifications and no bloatware.
The MIUI update 9.5.1 was actually pulled back and made nightly due to critical bugs.
http://en.miui.com/thread-2160466-1-1.html
The update was on Android 6.0.1 (obviously) and with April Security patch ( 2017 not 2018 )
So in short use Custom ROMs and be happy with the minimal bugs and in return get solid performance and stability.
My recommendations : crDroid 3.8.5 OFFICIAL

I'm currently using the Zenfone 2 (4GB RAM) and I will soon getting a Redmi Note 3 PRO (Snapdragon). I'm new to the xiaomi's ecosystem, I'm so confused here. Their stable ROM have version number of v7.** but their beta versions are v6.**. This is so confusing, I'd assume that they have two totally unrelated version numbering (ie betas have betas numbering and stables have stables numbering). Am I right?
But the main question is that now Asus had announced that the Zenfone 2 will get Android M in Q2 2016, and the users are complaining that Q2 is VERY LATE. But now I checked the Internet for Xiaomi's plan on Android M, I can only find that they are planning to upgrade the XIAOMI line of devices (ie Mi4 Mi5 MiNote etc) and nothing have been told about REDMI line of devices (ie Redmi3 RedmiNote3). If the RMN3P is not getting Android M, I consider my switch from Zenfone 2 a downgrade despite the RMN3 have better specs and one year newer. What are your thoughts on this about "Will RMN3P get Android M" ? Will we be upgraded?
And moreover the RMN3 community doesn't seem like they care about Android M. Only one thread that is related to Android M on MIUI forum and that's a poll asking if they want it or not (and some users don't want it). Maybe to some, it's pointless to upgrade to Android M but for me, the main reason I want Android M is the native fingerprint API so that apps like Lastpass can integrate and use the fingerprint sensor present on the RMN3 (we can only use it for unlocking device only currently).

Xiaomi sad "with the start of the Mi5 in India we will bring 6.0 to Redmi Note 3 Pro, like the Mi5"
You got Stable and Dev Rom. With the Dev Rom you get every friday a update.
Look the Mi2, when it's rls and look which version of Android you will get today (I think almost 4 years later).

i used ZF2 now using RN3 Pro 3gb.. only camera is downside on low light...but i trust Xiaomi..they are usually great with camera
also..if u just want to use app locks?? then dont wry they released 7.2.2 for some users and it is having app lock with FPS feature...and mi4i,mi3,mi4 are already upgraded from their initial android version[not miui version]
so yeah they can update android version ..
and also they release RN3 pro kernel yesterday which means custom roms can be more stable and most feature can be implemented ...
just relax and enjoy RN3

Ahhhh I remember you from the ZF2 subforum. I know for sure hardware side it is an upgrade. From the software side I'm not sure because I didn't use Xiaomi devices before. But from opinions of a few users above including you, I think RMN2P software will not be worse than the ZF2. It'd just that maybe RMN2P will get Android M later than the ZF2 since xiaomi still didn't release plan to upgrade it.
And I don't care about applock, but what I meant in OP is that the lastpass app itself do support firstprint but previously it doesn't work with xiaomi's fingerprint sensor because xiaomi didn't release API to the developers. But recently it worked, so it's okay now.

As the kernel source is released yesterday..we can get custom roms with in a month...as the cm12.1 already available in alpha stage developed by Santhosh MM....as u can see in that thread he said its time for cm13....as i saw his development for many devices he even made roma for my previous device yureka he is fast in developing roms...we can get stable cm13 for rn3 with in a month for sure..
I also sold my Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) and purchased Redmi Note 3 (snapdragon with 3gb/32gb). This mobile is far way better in RAM management and battery backup when compared to my zenny. Camera is awesome in zenny, but for a price of 12,000 INR we should not expect much.

I would ofcourse like android 6, but if you are on miui does it really make a big difference? Ofcourse you will miss a few new android features if it doesn't upgrade to M, however, atleast there are other regular updates and system security patches right?
On my samsung tab4 i received just one firmware update and i think after that any official development was discontinued.
I've been stucking here on Nougat and fails to move on to Oreo. I don't know I just think that Nougat is better in term of performance and stability for gaming. But now, you know, all the threads and developers giving all their loves for Oreo. So maybe this is my time to move.
So, please all hard gamers. In your experience. I need your setup badly for which Oreo rom should I flash. The most minimal and only essential customizations but very good performance n gaming, and please tell me which kernel you've been using for gaming. I really need it badly. Gaming is life. Please.
FYI I play Vainglory, FreeFire or ROS. Thank you so much.
Since there are no Oreo blobs for the Redmi Note 4 from Xiaomi (the Redmi Note 4 has yet to get the MIUI Oreo update and Xiaomi won't release sources for it until it does), kernels are pretty useless, IMO. Just stick with Nougat. It has sources so kernels for it are a whole lot more useful.

Probably never. Xiaomi never updates its old phones to new Android versions (only makes aesthetic changes to MIUI in updates), and this phone is a year old now. So it's old in Xiaomi's eyes. Xiaomi is a hardware company. Makes its money off hardware. So it has to keep pumping out new phones to ensure sales. If everyone holds onto old phones, like us Note 4 owners, Xiaomi doesn't get paid.
So don't expect an Oreo update or official sources from Xiaomi. You'll probably have to move onto the Note 5 Pro if you want Oreo and good gaming performance.

They have weekly ROM updates for those who want to opt-in to the developer builds.
Stable builds are at their own discretion.
They're not amazing, but better than many.
Security updates is another story. They're a bit slow with them, though I think that varies per device (Redmi is budget so gets low priority).
Poco is a new brand trying to go global though, so hopefully it's better than other devices (not sure how security updates are on the flagship Mi series)
After one or two months most of the people will shift to some or the other custom rom. So there won't be any problem with the security updates and normal OS upgrades. My Mi3 was released with KitKat now it's running Android Pie

Beta ROM updates are very fast both security n OS updates.
Stable updates within the same OS version are faster too. But OS upgrade need a bit waiting time as OS integrating to MIUI takes time.
Poco I expect faster updates due to treble support.
FYI:
Mix 2S of xiaomi already has Android 9 beta update.
very bad on stock roms stuck to old OS builds for mid range phones but on flagships very fast like blyat cyka rush b
I have used Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3/4/5, Redmi 3S/prime and only Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 3 as my daily driver.
Those things taught the following:
Don't except updates from Xiaomi, not even security patches, although they have started providing patches on Note series but they are always late, so patches may arrive but not when you expect them.
You may not get the latest features even if you have the latest android version on your MIUI, why? because Xiaomi wants to provide same features to all the phones so that phones running on Kitkat will have the same feature as phone running on Oreo, this makes their software development easy, that means that the feature that you are using doesn't have native support and may be buggy and battery hogging.
There are two channels in MIUI - Beta Channel and StableChannel. Stable channel update is provided every 4-5 months or whenever they feel like or to fix a very important bug. Beta channel was previously bimonthly but I have heard that now, it's changed. Due to this, they don't fix bugs properly and instead introduce more bugs in the system
Their update size are generally 500MB-1.5GB but the fixes are things like: Calender icon changed, Button of some subforum in MIUI forum app changed, New Ringtones and every useless things, then in the end *Bug Fixes* but they don't mention which one. Out of every 10 beta updates only 1 or 2 updates are useful while others are just formality.
Now, note this, other companies give update to keep your phone running for longer amount of time. Xiaomi thinks different, they will wreck your device with every update they provide.
When I had Redmi Note 3, Beta channel was more better and more stable than the Stable channel, I am not lying go check the forums.
There is no major change in MIUI 7-9 the first major change I saw was MIUI6 - MIUI 7 after that all changes were just useless and they everytime just change notification shade style.
MIUI 10 - Notification shade now looks like a copy of iPhone and it's really very cheap act by Xiaomi, although their App switcher is somewhat cool.
Custom ROM:
Xiaomi phones works best with stock android and indeed has the best development support. But there are few catches.
Not all features work in custom ROM, you will have to leave one or two things if you want to use custom ROM.
The famous and best developers will not port VOLTE if their cell providers don't provide it
Camera (on Xiaomi phones) doesn't works well on custom ROMS.
Xiaomi does provide kernel but they don't provide a lot of proprietary codes and binaries that ensures smooth functioning of phones.
Don't buy the phone if you want to get updates unless it's Chinese, they do care about Chinese people unlike their global counterpart, or those people who develop global roms are arseheads.
All the above points can be confirmed on MIUI forums and XDA, if anyone says that even one of the point(s) is wrong, he is probably new in Xiaomi's world.
Redmi is the cheap line and they get late updates and bugs are not fixed properly. Mi is the expensive line of Xiaomi so they get proper update in first few months and after that they are also neglected. Since Poco is also a cheap but is a flagship, they will get good number of updates and fixes for few months then they will announce another phone and Poco will be neglected, and people who are saying that Poco has a different team may be wrong, I don't think Xioami will divide the team because internally it uses the same MIUI as others only launcher is different. For world Poco is a brand, for Xiaomi it's yet another phone.
Depends. My Mi3 got updated from kitkat to Marshmallow while my mi tab 1 was still stuck at kitkat with such a laggy interface until I flashed nougat roms with shiels blobs which made the tab as smooth as my oneplus 3. So MIUI sucks and they don't update android versions when they update their miui version. So buy a phone which has strong custom rom support. (Xiaomi models that are sold in India have strong dev support from what I have seen)
Thanks everyone for the info. That gives me a good idea.

Huh? You say it sucks but your Mi 3 got two major updates. How does that suck?
As for tablet, well it's a tablet. Android tablets were always poor selling and are now completely dead anyway (Chrome OS tablets are the future), can't compare phones to tablets.
Yeah yeah. I know that we've seen the news about Poco and other 845 SoC based phone from Mi Series. Since the rollout of Android 11 on Pixel devices few days ago, there are many new features on Android 11 that I would like to add on Poco but since that Xiaomi promised us to get two major os updates (which are Android P and Android Q) it will most likely will stop on Android Q. But I have high hopes for Poco getting Android 11, MIUI based or not.
What are your thoughts about this?
Xiaomi has already cleared that poco f1 isn't getting android 11. It's not on their roadmap. We'll get miui 12 and maybe even 13 looking at the past experience. MIUI version are major upgrades for Xiaomi phones. Android versions like 9.0, 10.0 are practically just numbers to show off and that hardly adds any features on xiaomi phones.
I created petition on change.org for android 11.

Yes I'm fully aware of that. But even though if I posted this on MIUI Forums, I still get the same answers from both Forums.
I highly doubt that someone can use blobs from MIUI 12 Android 10 to start from scratch to build a port to Android 11.
I forgot what device that was, I've experienced this coming back from 2018 when they used blobs from Android M to port and build Android N and that was stable enough they officially launched an official build.
Maybe my intuition was wrong or not, maybe someone from the Poco dev or even from the Poco community might wanna build and port Android 11 and might be one of the biggest breakthroughs of all time. Of course if it is stable enough to be a daily driver. I know that it is hard because of lack of blobs coming from Xiaomi's MIUI but maybe, someone will do it.

Yeah, Android 9 and 10 is kinda bummer because of lack of feature other than setting apps permissions which is great for me.
Android 11 has tons of new features like their improved privacy app features, the new smart device control quick settings which I really need because I have smart devices at home, improved notification and more.
I know these things can be treated on 3rd party apps but who wants to add more apps on their phone and maybe eat the battery on the background.

This is highly unlikely. Check piunikaweb they already mentioned there that a moderator from MIUI forums clarified that we'll get miui12, but unlikely to get Android 11. If you really want 11. Then wait for custom ROMS, but it may not be full MIUI Android 11 ports, rather from Pixel ports (one has already been released)

You misunderstand me. Even if they give android 11, the actual features don't arrive with the update. You will have to wait couple of years more to see native features of android 11 to implement into their MIUI ecosystem.
For example, custom DNS was introduced with Android 7.0 or 8.0 but it really came to xiaomi devices with MIUI 11 in 2020 year only.
On Xiaomi devices going from android 10 or 11 is as unsubstantial like changing security patch from august to september. Most of the people won't notice anything different.
We will 100% get Android 11 as a custom rom. As a matter of fact, it already is a thing. (Search xda) We won't get it officially as all non-pixel devices get only 2 android upgrades.
As far as XDA is there with active dev's updates offically from miui isn't a big deal for me ! Although our dev's are far more better than offical miui cause custom Rom are becoming far more Stabler than stock and in features . :fingers-crossed:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development/rom-reloadedos-t4162237 11 is out for poco f1. Like i said, who needs xiaomis miui updates when you have xda. Long live the aftermarket software scene.

It was said 4-5 months ago that davinci will get MIUI 13 but with A11 although I doubt now
Yep, it looks like Xiami "changed their minds" regarding Mi 9T support.
A shame.
Good thing I stayed with the untouched MIUI 12.0.5 firmware, seeing how many issues came with MIUI 12.1.X
I'll probably go for alternative firmwares once I see one in these forums that looks stable enough.

Hmmm... might try it sooner or later. Though I see that it hasn't been updated since Nov. Does that mean that the 12.5 branch won't get any more updates? (security updates at least...) Because if that's so... I'm not really sure that it's worth the hassle, right?

Seems no more upgrades for the whole series Mi 9 series.
But from my experience it is better than 12.1, 12.2
Also, you have to format Data when switching to Xiaomi.eu and IMO, that heals the issues people otherwise reported while upgrading stock to 12.1 or 12.2
If you are ok with MIUI, that's the best you can get
But it is also questionable how many custom ROMs will continue to get updates

That's what I was afraid of. LineageOS stopped supporting it too, so no luck on that side either. What a shame, because this phone is plenty capable and I see no reason to buy a new one.

Yes but you can think the same about ROM. If you settle with a good one, who cares (for a year or so) if it won't be updated.
It's important that there are other users, and that you can get help/support among them
Ok, you don't get new security updates. But apps will be continually updated for A11 for some years to come (Xiaomi.eu 12.5.2 is A11)

The phone will surely die before A10/A11 stops getting support from apps though.
Lineage from Arian is supported and updated every week. The one reason 19.1 is not popular yet, is because of data decryption is not possible yet on A12, but ROM is soooo smooth andbug free I can't wait to get it as my daily
