Le Max 2 X820 & WiFI Calling - LeEco Le Max 2 Questions & Answers

So, after my Le Max 2 X829 died a horrible death (see a previous post I started back in Feb 2018) I ordered the Max2 X820 version from Banggood. It arrived yesterday. I unlocked the bootloader, and installed TWRP, and I found out the hard way that TWRP version Twrp-3.1.0-0-x2 doesn't work! It freezes, and locks up! Finally, figured out that Twrp-3.2.1-0-x2 works stable.
However, even the Stock EUI that ships with the phone the WiFi calling is not stable. Or throws the common WiFi calling error codes. I'm running RR-N-v5.8.5-20171006-x2-Final which runs stable, but without WiFi calling support. I tried installing X829_5.8.16s_EUI_rooted, but only errors in TWRP, and doesn't complete. Is there a stable version of EUI that for the X820 that supports WiFi calling, or any other supporting ROM that supports it? I'm using Tmo by the way.

I beta tested the X2. Was an issue they never fixed.

You can try VoEnabler magisk module to make wifi calling work. Link :https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-v4-volte-enabler-t3649613

Using Root Explore to edit build.prop.
open root-explore.
Root/system/
select build.prob ( touch and hold )
open with vi editor ( touch 3 dots on uper right corner of screen.)
add 2 lines:
# Add for wifi calling
persist.data.iwlan.enable=true
then find ( near the end of file)
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=0
change it to
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=1
save & exit ( at 3 dots).
reboot phone...
I am current with T-moblil . Some time it has error " liker 99.." . Simply reboot the phone and it is good for wife calling. It may due to wifi change IP address.
To test just select wifi calling only when you have connected to wifi.

I ended up going w/ this ROM. WiFi calling, Volte, Leeco Remote, & Camera all flawless. All other options work like hotspot, and live screen too. Fantastic customization, and battery life.

Initial place holder for lineageOS ported rom.
Ported from Vampirefo Life_Max rom
So far same methods to get camera to run on this rom have not worked.
ROM needs bug testing.
so far.
what works.
1. wifi
2. data.
3. gps.
4. microphone.
5. video playback
6. music streaming
NOT working
1. Camera
2. Bluetooth (when paired to BT video plays too fast and sounds like "chipmonk" also same for music- too fast)
work-around is to use mono-bt app. _-It will force stereo BT to play mono , but sound is at correct speed
3. Initial set-up wizzard will crash if you connect to network during set-up. Just skip wifi. I did it without simcard so cant be certain If cell data has same problem.
Of course the more I know the more I will try to update this.

Need to have bootloader unlocked
Need to have TWRP =>Latest TWRP 3.1.1

For the record, GPS is *not* working for me on this current build. Also, setup completes fine over cellular. I also noticed that I am limited to 4G; not connecting to LTE.

I used the "gps test" app the see gps working, the first time connecting sometimes took about 2 minutes while inside. Also but default I see the fps toggle is off.
As for LTE, I'm thinking it's just an icon thing. Because I did a speed test and I'm getting 64M download which is LTE speed not h+ or 4g like it's showing
For lte try this app.

Yeah, I should have done more testing before posting. GPS is working, it just took a little while to get a fix.

Looks like it displays "4G" for LTE and "H+" for regular 4G. Also, has anyone attempted encryption on this build?

Fwiw, I tried encryption. It appeared to go through the process normally but when the timer got to 00:00 it stayed there for roughly two hours until I decided something had gone wrong and gave up.

I have never heard of anyone wanting to encrypt a custom rom, I have zero zero desire to do it, but if I was going to do it, I would modify the boot.img to encrypt on boot just like stock roms do.

I successfully got the build up and going on my device.
I didn't see the note about not connecting to wi-fi during set up, but it seemed to work fine.
GPS seems to be working (the GPS test app shows 5 in use and maps has a circle around me).
My SD card isn't recognized and won't format. I can't figure out how to trigger it again to get the exact error message.
Have not put my SIM card in so haven't tested that stuff yet.
Edit: A reboot fixed the SD Card issue
I'm on T-Mobile. LTE is doing something weird. LTE Discovery app reports me being on Band 1 (wut?) while SignalCheck Lite reports band 4 (as it should).
Icon says "4G".
Coming over the hills into work today, my data connection quit when it should've had LTE (maybe a band 12 issue?).
OpenCamera just says "failed to open camera. Is camera in use by another application?".
Bluetooth definitely has weird sound. How do I force it into mono?
Haven't made/received any phone calls. Had to update the T-Mobile APN to do MMS and Wi-fi hotspot.
Edit: successfully received a phone call and everything went well.
Another note: My "network" is just a bunch of numbers. This is displayed under the "Mobile data" icon in the notification shade and in the upper left on the notification bar. (I would expect it to say "T-Mobile" or something.)

There is no working camera on this build.
bluetooth mono is an app you can find on play-store or f-droid
do not know about the network name, but I do know I had once used an exposed exploit app to modify that name to what ever I wanted it say. So not too big of a problem, I think.

Camera: no problem, I saw on some of the other ROMs that it was almost working so I thought I would just report what happens to me.
Bluetooth: Cool, I'll just look for an app.
Network name: I thought Xposed wasn't available for Nougat yet. Am I wrong? I'll look around and see if there's a Magisk Module to do the same thing. Not a big deal.
By the way, thanks for your work, I'm using it as my daily driver for now! (Got tired of waiting for a root solution on ZTE Zmax Pro.)
Hi, can I use this ROM in my phone as daily driver?
@overthc I did for a while but then I switched to lineage 13 because the camera works on 13

I am, but I'm okay with the camera not working.
Only issues I've had:
Bluetooth listening to music or videos is borked. Supposedly, getting a mono-bluetooth app will help but I haven't had luck (my car keeps thinking I'm constantly on a call).
When I'm using Reddit Is Fun, some gifs start playing Google Play Music in the background for some reason (could be a problem with RIF).
Network name is shown as "310260" instead of "T-Mobile".
Camera doesn't work (as noted already)
On the positive column, it's been fast and stable. Haven't had any crashes or other problems. I'm super happy with it!

Thanks @codyalan I ´d used it but was killing my battery.. so I back to stock.
Cellular and data have been fine. There was a hiccup when I was driving into work the other day where I lost signal when I shouldn't have. I'm not sure that Band 12 is working (I'm on T-Mobile) but LTE seems to be working fine on Band 2 and 4.
I haven't noticed any problems with the battery consumption. I've been using it for a week or so and it lasts me all day.
I haven't had a single unexpected reboot. I have rebooted it a couple of times, but only because I was tinkering with Bluetooth and I wanted to make sure I was in a fresh state each time.

I flashed the micro ARM non-64bit version. I wish I would've flashed stock or something higher than micro so I wouldn't have to uninstall "Mail" and "Browser" and whatnot.

Bad Reception on (Non-EUI) Custom Roms

I am an American X829 user on H2O (an AT&T MNVO) network.
I've been having an issue with any custom ROM I've tried here that is not EUI based. Cuoco92 or Small EUI work great, but any other ROM has an issue with general signal strengh, tower switching and what protocol it uses (4G, LTE, WCDMA).
Specifically:
1. When I move out of an aera of coverage, then back into covered area the phone will not reconnect without a restart or airplane mode toggle.
2. The phone will be in WCDMA mode in an area with LTE coverage, and will only connect to LTE with restart or airplane toggle.
Network Guru will show that there are towers that it can be connected to, but the phone will not actually connect to them. I always make sure to set the correct APN settings when I install a ROM.
So far I've tried RR, AOSIP, and OmniROM, for RR I tried both the 7.1.2 and 5.7.4 Final (in case the issue was 7.1.2 being too new for the modem file). For all of them I have tried the 23S, 23S(v2), and 419D modem, with all gave me signal but still give me this issue. The also used the default kernel that comes with the rom and BlackScreen with each rom.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I experience the same error.

I also experienced the same error as you have described when using Nougat based ROMS. I did not change kernels like you did but I did flash the modem with the same versions you mentioned. Unfortunately I didn't find a resolution and eventually fell back to Small EUI. One thing I've noticed on Small EUI is that the default APN seems to be an emergency one that is pretty bare bones. Frankly the reception is even better than stock. I don't know if this will help or not but I included some screenshots so you can try the setup. Can't make things any worse than they are already

Thanks for the reply, I'm back on Small EUI too. Just curious, are you using the "emergency" APN for normal usage or for testing the ROM's signal? On my carrier, can only use the APN settings they provide in order to connect, I've experimented with other APN settings.

I will consider that, I did reinstall the stock 23s rom before reinstalling Small EUI this last time, but I have also installed Small EUI coming a non-fuctioning ROM, and had the same effect.

I wasn't aware that any custom ROM developers on here are making infected ROMs , I would think they would be banned. Speaking of privacy issues though, the reason I want a custom ROM is that they are free of Google Play Services and LeEco's code. I prefer the open source nature of custom ROMs more so then the extra features/performance you get it (though I like those too).
In my installation of Small EUI I can't create another APN. I use AT&T post paid and the emergency APN works without an issue. Probably a bug in my installation but it's a happy accident.

MiUI wifi symbol confusing when there is no internet connection !! Plz help

I have just got a new Redmi note 4. Trying to test basic functionalities. Using Miui for the first time.
Currently there is some problem in my wifi connection. Happens sometimes from isp end.
In stock or lineage the wifi symbol clearly shows an excalamation mark or a small cross mark on/beside the wifi symbol which suggests "connected but no internet access" which is correct and gives me a clear indication that connectivity is down now. See attached screenshot.
But on RN4 on MiUI, I don't see any such symbol. The wifi symbol simply shows as connected but obviously there is no connectivity now so it is confusing. Is it how miui is or is there some setting which will enable such feature.
This in my opinion is a very basic feature and miui seems to be missing it!!
Posting from moto g so cant share the miui screenshot but it shows simply connected on rn4
In the wifi menu also, moto g is clearly showing "connected, no internet" but RN4 is simply showing connected
Very disappointed so far. Both speaker and headphone music output of my moto g 1st gen is far far better than redmi note 4. No quality in RN4. Hyped device!!
I got Mi-Globe rom with Dolby Atmos installed and I think it's very nice sound quality with that. Maybe try that?
Try the Mi-Globe ROM with Viper and Dolby. It's the deodexed and debloated version of MIUI tuned to near perfection. You can find these tuning options in the expert sections of the download page.
Any idea on my main query in the opening post?

You are correct, hadn't thought about it before.
Failover from wifi to mobil data is not working.
This is the same on my Redmi Note 4 3/32 sd global version running MIUI 9 Global beta, and on my Mi Max running MIUI 8 Global Stable.
So this is a basic fault/bug in MIUI, should be reported. How one does that, no idea just now . . .
So we are in MiUI 9 and since 9 generations of this OS (or whatever) noone has noticed, reported or fixed this bug? I don't believe it.
This is just a small example why heavily bloated skins line MiUI are not good. This is such a basic feature and I can't imagine myself living with MiUI as my daily driver.
There are tons of custom roms for Redmi Note 4 but still all have some bugs (Volte signal fluctuation, low volume on speaker etc)
Sold the recently bought RN4 on OLX. Not satisfied with overall quality.
Also, speaker grill position and touch capacitive buttons placement was not comfortable to me.
Holding in one hand, the thumb can't reach the capacitive button on other end.
Also, the hand often covers the speaker grill.
One can simply reproduce / test the defect mention in OP by disconnecting LAN cable from Wifi Router and having the phone connected to that wifi network.
This functionality is missing yet from MIUI.

This is not a big issue in RN4 SD but yes, this feature is still missing from MIUI. Whenever you will connect with your Wi-Fi then the wifi symbol will appear but it will not show any symbol for no internet connection. Even the roaming symbol does not appear in my own RN4 SD. I hope that this will be fixed soon by MIUI developer team. If no internet connection symbol is a must have thing in your device then i suggest you to flash lineage os or any other custom ROM. But be careful. download custom ROM only from official sources. Custom ROM from unofficial sources may effect your phone performance and your privacy.
This is not a big problem for me, just a little irritating.
I did a bug report on it, we shall see.
China is on holiday.
I do get the roaming symbol, no problem there.
VoLTE works in my Mi Max with Telia in Sweden, began working this fall after Telia implemented it.
I only have a prepaid sim card in the Redmi Note 4, so Telia does not give it VoLTE.
Generally I'm quite happy with MIUI and the Xiaomii phones.

Mobile Network Issue Lineage OS (HELP!)

I'm on a pocophone f1 (64gb) running lineage os (android 9) and the latest version of magisk with no problems..... Almost.
I noticed that where I got 4g cell service, I get h+. No 4g (much less lte.)
Instead of saying "oh well" I decided to take to Google and tackle the issue. What I found is that sometimes you need to edit some things in the Mobile Network Options (this was the case on my old phone), well to my dismay I found that clicking on the Mobile Network Options did either of these or both.
-instantly take me back to the main settings screen with a "com.android.phone keeps stopping" message if attempted multiple times,
-stay on the same screen after I click it, the signal strength indicator in the notification bar/status bar will go blank for a couple seconds before redetecting my mobile network provider and go back to its h+ signal.
Please help I don't want to have to reset my phone unless it is the ONLY option, I already reinstalled magisk via twrp, I checked for lineage os updates and restarted my phone several times. I know that the pocophone's cell band works with my provider because I got 4g/lte before I put this custom rom on this.
(I am using Cricket Wireless BTW)
Thanks in advance.
Did you have a resolution that worked? I'm on Cricket in Virginia, US and was curious since I saw how few 4G bands it has.

I had returned to MiUi for a while but after a couple months decided to go back to lineage using the now updated firmware.
I'm still using it and it is working fine, the crashes in the settings were fixed, but I still only get h+ data. I switched preferred networks and in the busiest town near me (Jackson CA) I was able to get a tiny short lived sliver of LTE, before getting no signal at all. So I stuck with H+ because that was the only network I got reception on.
I understand that the pocophone has limited LTE signal in the US, but I used to be able to get 4g on MiUi. I'm planning on upgrading to the Mix 3, but I'd still like to get this resolved for future pocophone users.
Quick Update, I still have my good 'ol poco f1, still with h+ data, but I didnt really notice speed differences from 4g that much, but when I go to folsom, (where I go to college now), I get normal LTE.
I'm switching to a fairly new OS called POSP https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development/rom-posp-v3-0-0-alpha-1-beryllium-t3965821 which brings android 10 to the poco f1, will report that later on in a different thread :3

POCO F1 has modified vendor image! if you are using lineage of 7-8-2019 (before it got reported and development stopped) , that version had its own vendor image making 400mb LOS to 700+mb LOS,
having said that!
you still need to flash firmware , use 9.6.27-9

now lets say you are on that firmware!
modified vendor creates strange Network issues and com.android.xxxx crashing notifications if YOU EVER HAVE/HAD used USB TETHERING on 3g network!
the modifited vendor dumps 3g log stats on /data/system/netstats which makes network configuration faulty and system UI keeps crashing restarting making mobile data also crash and restart
Perminant solution is NONE
temporary solution
1. avoid usb tethering on 3g
2. whenever such happens, put device on AIRPLAIN MODE and DELETE all the files in /data/system/netstats and REBOOT POCO

My experience with customs roms on my Redmi 3s

I'm writing for me and everybody else who have same problems with roms. I started to change roms after phone started to drain battery on original MIUI. It could be some problems with apps or hardware but battery drain is happening even on new installation of MIUI so I'm sure it's planned obsolescence of product by xiaomi. After changing OS not one system have battery problem but each and every one have different problems:
1) Pixel Experience and PixelReloaded - some callers hear echo during voice calls and i don't. Tbh those system are great but 2/3 callers cant talk with you so no go for me. I have tried turning off google assistants, voice enchanters, blocking top microphone and many more but nothing helps.
2)ArrowOS 11.0 - no wifi
3)Lineage OS 18.0 - this have echo and no mobile data.
4)Lineage OS 16.0 +/- opengapps - no mobile data, checked APN, changed preferred network, changed sim tray.
5)AospExtended-v7.3-land - no mobile data.
6)Havoc-OS-v3.9-20200920-land-Official-GApps - echo and mobile data works only after changing preferred network.
7)Paranoid Android Quartz 4 - Xiaomi Redmi 3S - mobile data works out of the box but echo on calls
8)Lineage-17.1-20200328-UNOFFICIAL-land - mobile data irregular working. When i change preferred network its working 2 min.
9)DerpFest-10-Official-land-20200408 - All seems to work but I'm not sure about battery I will tell you after some testing. After testing phone can last only from 8:00 till 20:00 so I will search something better.
10)Corvus and Nusantara both give me Error 7 during install each time I make full wipe so instructions are not correct?
11)Nitrogen-OS-10-land-20200207 this is what stays all working out of box.

@Atam2001
Thanks for your feedback.
I have the same problem with no mobile data on many ROMs....
Did you try the last LineageOS 18 since ?
I'm Using Superior OS & It's Working Flawlessly, I Tried Other ROMs Too But All Had Some Kind Of Problems But Superior Has Never Let Me Down I'm Using This ROM As My Daily Driver I Haven't Seen Any Problems On My Device(2GB/16GB).
Thank you for your responses next time I will try your offers. Superior OS and lineage OS 18.
Thank You so much. I was always trying different ROMS. I tried the pixel experience ROM on Redmi 3s and it still had echo on calling but that got solved when I connected earphone. However, it has a new set of problems like automatically restarting and the microphone doesn't work once in a while(Always happens when I use Google assistant) but gets solved after restart. Seriously, the phone lagged and stuck at the wallpaper while I was typing this comment. Really, moving out of the project.
Let me see if Nitrogen OS does the magic. Please keep this thread updated on your findings. I am looking for a stable ROM as well.

Nitrogen OS doesn't have official thread. Are you referring to ones at sourceforge or did I miss those threads? Help me please.

Yeah, it's really good.
Hi, I tried to install Lineage OS 16 official yesterday. It does not boot with GApps. Did anyone else face the same experience? Is there any workaround to it?
Does all Android 10 ROMs have problems with volte in second sim?
I want stability and all features working like calling, volte, bluetooth, wifi and won't mind an older Android version or security patch. I just don't want to use miui. Any recommendations?
The patch to enable VoLTE in 2nd SIM(not simultaneously ) was added in Komodo OS, Corvus v7 AFAIK. For other ROMs just one line needs to be added in vendor/etc/init/hw "restart ril-daemon" without the quotes ofc. Reboot device.
mido: Workaround VoLTE SIM Slot switching issue · zeelog/[email protected]
* For some unknown reason, with new ims.apk VoLTE switching doesn't occur in real time unless we restart ril-daemon to re-initialize slots. * Test with this workaround: Switch mobile...

This fix was reported added to Fork LOS but I couldn't get it to work IIRC.
Everything seems to be working well in Fork LOS. VoLTE works for Vi and Airtel besides Jio ofc. I get 0.5%/h idle drain in 2G mode and all other radios off. Others report zero overnight drain. Active drain is decent. Of particular note is that laptop charging mode seems to work now(after battery is charged either fully or any other value current seems to be drawn directly from charger bypassing the battery which is great from battery longevity POV ). Previously it was working only in a few Pie ROMs like Havoc and DotOS (worked in most N and MM ROMs ).

Yes but very old ROM without any security patch since more than 15 months
Try Fork LOS or Havoc Q by Sairam (AEX had a few minor issues). Idle drain is mind-bogglingly good. At times 1% drop over 24+ hours. On average 0.1%/h. That too with BT on all the time. (2G only and mobile data off. Wifi and GPS disabled)
Active drain over 4G is decent varying from 10-13%/h. In Kiwi drain is far lower compared to Chrome, under 10%/h vs >15%/h.
I haven't noticed any bugs. Flos Q is better suited for 2GB variant.
Are there any new and stable roms for us to try?

Several available. Most of them don't seem to be posted on XDA nowadays. If you want I can post the link to the TG channel for all the updated ROMs.

https://t.me/R3SPX_UPDATES ROMs by Sairam are very good. Fork LOS (R) and Havoc 4.x are stable, performant and deliver good bb. I prefer the latter as I need more customization options. Stock kernel.

The only problem I found in HAVOC was it doesn't have Gcam and it sometimes gets too messy installing mods. By the way, thanks for your recommendation mate!

GCam 5.1 worked in Havoc 4.3. Since then I am on FLOS R as I don't change ROMs too often. Anyways newee GCam versions are too memory hungry for my 2GB variant.
Which mods are you talking about? R has proved really demanding for 2GB so nowadays I stick to the bare minimum.
