Moto g4 play - stuck in boot - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, i have a moto g4 play and after installing pokemon go and root switch to try to play the game i disabled xposed and everything was fin after i enabled xposed and rebooted my phone has been stuck in boot since. i can boot into twrp just fine. any help is good help, thank you.
edit: Should aslo add that it has booted fine since i rooted it around last march (2017)
Edit(2): Ok, issue seems to be xposed if i disable it via touch /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/disabled in twrp i can boot, but enabling xposed makes me bootloop
Edit(3): Reinstalling xposed framework via fresh zip still boot loops, any ideas?
Edit(4): Runing the uninstaller via TWRP still bootloops, im assuming its something in the xposed files is messed up.

well i can boot into my phone but cant get xposed to do anything and i have to use the disabled file trick, any ideas on how to get xposed working again?

a hopeful bump as i still haven't found any fix.

why are you using xposed in the first place (i may help you to get some work arounds to get what you need without xposed)

there is an open source app named newpipe which can full fill your needs of youtube
the edits with neo power menu can be permanently achieved by editing system resources (bit hard for beginners but it's good ones you done it)
stuff with gravity box can also be done permanently by system resource editing
what you do with lucky patcher?
for you it will look like more simple to use xposed , but believe me editing system resorces can be more good

I'll give newpipe a try, do you know where I can find any guides on how to do the edits? And lucky patcher for in app purchases. And the only thing I used from gravity box was the pie menus

[Q] Xposed

What exactly does Xposed do? Is it only a developers' tool, or can a noob/novice use it?

Here's the easy answer for this question. According to the Xposed website it changes the behavior of the system without touching APKs. If you are rooted then you can install the framework and download modules from the App (or other places) that you want to use. Using the stock rooted Rom, an example of a module that works is Sense 6 Toolbar. It modifies a lot of things in the system that you normally couldn't You have to reboot after installing the framework and you must reboot after activating a downloaded module in order for it to work. You activate modules within the app.
That's the simple version. You can google the finer details. I always get the installer from the website.

Xposed Modules

Now that we have Xposed working, what modules have you installed that work? Or ones that don't work? Anyone try Notify Clean?
Root cloak
NotifyClean seems to be working well.
I'm using appopsxposed, directapkinstall module, play store changelog, rootcloak, swype row, youtube adaway, and youtube background playback.
Gravity Box [LP] also working... although I only am using some tweaks to clean up the status bar...
Anyone else try G4 Tweaksbox? I installed the module, but when starting the app, it said the Xposed framework was not found (or something like that...). anyone else have any luck with it?
Im using the G4 tweakbox, amplify, and acdisplay. All work well

I can't update my xposed, how did you guys go about doing it? Also, kind of off topic, when I installed V4A it asked me to install busybox (which I did, the one that it redirects you to) and it still says that I don't have the proper busybox installed which makes it so it is unable to install the driver.

Not sure what you mean by "update" xposed... there is no update - you just install the latest framework (and app) as discussed in a couple of other threads. What am I missing? Also, my not be relevant as I have not tried to install V4A, but the Busybox installer that worked best for most folks was the one from JRummy (app store)--you might try uninstalling busybox and then reinstall with that app... Hope this helps.

That is what I meant, by installing a newer framework. Anyways I got that working, but now I have a new problem. I am unable to uninstall the xposed framework. The reason why I am trying to do this is so that I can sign back into snapchat. I have tried flashing the uninstall zip via flashfire, but it doesn't seem to be working (I have tried flashing it multiple times with no luck).

I think at this point, the only way to "uninstall" xposed is to flash the stock tot via LGUP.

Let's share what does/doesn't work
Since I made the post, it's only fair I go first.
On A2017G, stock and updated via OTA to 7.1, the flash was successful. The first boot took ~10 minutes. I will now start testing modules and update this post with what does/doesn't work.
Modules I tried so far:
LP: Works
Amplify Battery Extender: Works
Greenify: Does NOT work - The module is active, however, the app does not seem to be aware that it is.
-I'm looking for the old Youtube Background Playback module. It seems to have been pulled from the download list inside xposed manager. If anyone has a copy of it, it would be great to see if it's still working. The LP patch for background play stopped working for me on 3 different devices about 2 weeks ago.
Great!
Maybe a stupid question, but will installing xposed still break safetynet checks? That was the only benefit of running.g without xposed; aps like horizon / Ziggo Go worked, hate to have to do without it.
TIA,
Cheers,
/Cacti
Sent from my ZTE A2017G using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Amplify can't see wakelock or service...greenfy continue to tell me to activate the module. (I just set on the module and reboot many times)
UPDATE: other users with different device have the same problem, I think we need an update of these apps for working with the new version of exposed.

I had the magisk FC too. Fixed it by switching to stable channel reinstalling both the zip and the launcher. Safety net is broken with magisk hide setting and the "universal safety net fix" module.

@rzarectha thank you, but it didn't help. even tried install beta version;
tried to complete uninstall and install again the zip and apk - it worked and no more FC.
Im also on B32 with Magisk, but currently running the official Xposed for Magisk. Should I use the Xposed uninstaller or just remove and uninstall the Magisk Xposed module before starting with the official Xposed process?
Regarding YouTube background play:
I found the .apk on their github page, it's in the first thread that mentions it being removed from the repo. I tested it and it works!
For whatever reason, I cannot get past a bootloop after installing via TWRP. Interestingly, I can install the unofficial module from back in August. I can uninstall that just fine, but reinstalling the proper one does nothing but bootloop. Anyone else having this problerm?
Could anyone try running Fate Grand Order?
After update to V88 the boot time is longer for 45-50 second on my A2017G with Stock 7.1.1B06. With inofficial V87 boots better
This is what I have setup so far. Crappalinks, YouTube Adaway, XInsta, all work. Greenify doesn't and neither did Amplify, not properly anyway. Also it does break Safety net. We'll have to wait for the Magisk Module

why use Xposed for youtube adaway and background player when they make a separate app for that over here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-iytbp-injected-youtube-background-t3560900 I have been using this for a while now and it is great

There is a magisk module on the repo but to my knowledge it still breaks safetynet
For those with issues with magisk and xposed, you can't use them both together, if you want to then you have to use the specific xposed magisk module here https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268 also flashing xposed regardless magisk or not its going to break safetynet no matter what. Will explain in that magisk xposed thread.
If someone got problems like me, heres my way i installed it successfully and get everything to work (Magisk!):
- disable xposed modules
- restart to recovery
- install Xposed v88.2 by topjohnwho (from xposed thread) via recovery
- reboot to system (first boot took ~9min)
- install Xposed Installer 3.1.2 for Magisk
- activate modules in xposed installer
- reboot phone and its done.
If you dont deactivate the xposed modules before flashing xposed, you maybe have to reinstall them and maybe set up everything new, if you cant save the settings for the modules. This was happening in my first try. In my second try i disabled them before and activated after flashing and dont have do setup every xposed module again.
A2017G with B06 and Magisk v14.2.

I think it's just as good as SuperSU in handling root apps. The way Magisk stands out though is the modules. I would recommend that you install only the magisk manager (it does not mess with anything in your phone if you just install it), and browse through the list of modules it has. It's very similar to the way modules in xposed look like. Maybe you can find some interesting functionality in there.
I am using the greenify module (works much like boost mode on xposed), busybox, adblocker, systemiser (turns user apps in sys apps), debloater (completely uninstall user apps). There's a ton of mods though, I don't even understand what most actually do.
Keep in mind that having xposed installed will break safetynet no matter what. Magisk can't hide it.

Edit: i moved this issue to the Q&A and help section since more issues keep coming
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/finally-decided-to-switch-supersu-to-t3787201
just switched to latest stock rom (1.2.0 B10) and installed magisk (16.4). it works and safetynet passes. the problem i got now is that the greenify module fails to install in magisk (see screenshot)
do i gotta flash the module through TWRP maybe? still a newbie to magisk since the axon 7 is the first phone to have it working
EDIT: for some reason magisk doesn't remember which apps have requested root after a reboot. everytime i reboot i get a prompt to allow root access to all my root apps (like greenify). idk why this is happening. i mean, root itself is working as it should. i already uninstalled bloatware and disabled/freezed things like the powermanagement
I'm interested in knowing where Magisk is at

Question Possible to downgrade included app (YouTube) to earlier version than is included in Android 13 factory image?

Youtube version is 17.17.37
My understanding is that this is the version included in Android 13 factory image for P6. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier version? So far I am experiencing failed installs using earlier .apks. I assume this is because it was an app included in the factory image? IS there a workaround?
I am rooted and stock, FWIW
I used magisk module "debloater" to uninstall apps like YouTube.
After, you should be able to install a lower version.
[MODULE][Terminal] Debloater v17.3.2 - Debloat Systemlessly!
[TERMINAL] DEBLOATER Debloat your phone Systemlessly! Debloating can sometimes be device specific. OEM apps can sometimes be a trash to a user but not to the other. So I decided to make a module to Customize the uninstallation of a system app...

You have to force YouTube to a user app instead of a system app.
Then you can uninstall the updated (installed) version.
Rooted with Magisk you can use a module to kick YouTube to a user app.
I made a module awhile back to do just this.
Replace System YouTube - [GitHub] - Link
Not sure if the module will work as is with a13.
You might need to adjust it a bit to work with a13.
Cheers.
Edit:
PS.
Just checked.
Seems everything is still the same on a13.
So I did a quick test on my Pixel 5a, no issues.

Apologize for the delay.
I did not intend to ignore your question, it just got lost in my list of replies.
As for OTA updates, it should not affect anything.
I never tested with an OTA update. I download the full version and use fastboot to update.
If you disable the module it will revert back to the newer system version.
The older version that you installed, will be uninstalled.
---
As for a YTMusic version..
I never needed one but, it would be easy to do the same.
Should have time this weekend to look into it.
Cheers.

When an app is included in system (app, priv-app, product, ...).
Newer versions get installed into userdata, regardless if it is an update from PlayStore or manually installed.
Both will be found and the newer version will be loaded.
You can only uninstall the update (userdata) version since system is read-only.
It will revert back to loading the version in system.
By replacing the system app version with zero byte file(s), the system version can not be loaded.
This leaves only the version that is installed in userdata.
It is then treated the same as any other user app.
If you uninstall the version in userdata, it will be gone since there is no system version available to load.
Cheers.

Not sure off hand but, it should be able to be modified to include yet another OnePlus directory.
I checked on my 7T (Android 12) and it was in
