Extremely slow screen rotation - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Upon rotating my screen while watching a YouTube video for example, it sometimes takes up to 10 seconds for the screen to rotate. Audio continues to play, but the screen freezes until finally it's in the correct orientation. This also applies to any other app. I'm using an unlocked snapdragon. Anyone else have this issue? I restarted my phone earlier today and it seemed to resolve the issue, only for it to come back later in the day.

I don't have that issue but sometimes the autorotaion won't toggle and I have to disable and enable it to make it work. I'm on exynos.

Are you running Flar2's button mapper by any chance? And if so, are you by any chance remapping the bixby button to perform screenshots? For some odd reason performing a screenshot that way caused the rotation to lag for me.

That's interesting. I am having screen rotation issues and I'm using bxActions to remap the bixby button to screenshot.

That's interesting. I thought maybe it could be bx actions, so I turned the service off to see what would happen. Nothing happened, so I wrote it off as being unrelated. I have long press as screenshot.

All interesting points regarding the remapping of the Bixby button. I had this issue recently and I have the BxAction set for screenshots. I reinstalled YouTube and it seemed to have fixed it, for the time being at least. It sounds like there could be something here, I'd like to keep a close eye on. Hopefully a small update could fix this.

No issues here. I'm remapping bixby, but not for screenshots.

I have the same issue, but only for one game, really, no other full screen apps, and also use bxActions to remap to screen shot. Hmm.

I mean just remapping didn't cause the lag, but the instant I performed a screenshot through the bixby button, the rotation lag would start. Restarting the phone remedies it until I use the bixby button to do a screenshot again. Doing the screenshot via the power button + volume down doesn't cause the lag

This happened to me once about one week ago - Auto rotate is extremely slow, over several seconds. I can't pin-point the culprit but in my case, a simple reboot fixed my issue. I have not encounter the issue since.
Good luck!

Having disabled screenshot only and restarted my device, all day I have yet to experience the lag. I think it's definitely tied to bxActions.

It's bxActions.... I had really bad lag rotating Chrome to watch a video from a news site this morning and then used Package Disabler to disable it... instantly cured.

I have bxActions installed and experience freezes. Double-pressing the Bixby button is set to take screenshots. Freezes happen during screen rotation, and while using the galley app. Hopefully they can get this sorted out with an update if it's truly the culprit as I really like this app's features.

You nailed it! Thank you!
It wasnt Flar's app but it was definitely bxActions w screenshot enabled causing me rotation lags (in all apps).
Disabled screenshot via Bixby button & rotation is 100%

screen inverted / negative mode - randomly?

Anyone had this problem?
Randomly I'll wake my phone and it'll be in negative mode (where all the colours are inverted). I can fix it back selecting negative mode, then going back to normal, but it's very annoying!
Many thanks
Maybe you're using Siyah kernel and pressing the home button four times.

Of course you can. Just read the thread or search into it.
In ExTweaks you can disable it.

Now we have Root Can we fix Loackscreen LAG?

Now that we have root is there a fix for lock screen lag?
The current root procedure breaks more things so its not worth it even if it did

On my Note it appears to be a TouchWiz problem. I do not have the lock screen enabled as my phone never leaves my side. From sleep it takes approx. 1 second to wake if i press the power button when using TouchWiz. It wakes in less than half a second when i use SSLauncher or Nova!
Not using touchwiz. Nova launcher instead. Still get crazy lag. Seems its across all Note 2. Hoping for a fix.
I was browsing the n7100 forums and someone there asked the same question. A lot of people said that the lag was because of the phone coming out of deep sleep so the only way to fix the lag would be to keep some app running in the background that keeps the phone from sleeping. The only problem with that is that your battery life won't be as good.
why not just download voltage control or similar app and raise the minimum clock speed?
I have no lag at all. My note 2 is faster then my g3

It's not lag so much as it is a delay. On my Razr, there's no delay between pushing the power button and the screen coming on. There is a delay on the Note 2 of around a second between pushing the button and the screen coming on.
I don't think it's the lockscreen. I don't see a difference when I turn it off. My guess is the little bit of lag is for hardware reasons.
I've read that this is due to S-Voice waiting for input before the screen completely wakes up. Go into S-Voice and find the setting to wait for input on wake or something similar and turn that off. Lag should be fixed...dont have the phone yet and already giving advice, lol.

This video is for home button lag not lockscreen lag. Plu my s voice was all ready disable by home button. This thread is for lockscreen lag/delay not home button.
The Fix for me
Here is what i found turn off s-voice this what i found to fix the lag i think it is running waiting for the wake voice command
do turn it off if you dont use it did and it did the trick it is in the apps drawer so dont look for it in the settings
I thought this was generally accepted to be due to the phone entering a deep sleep and shutting off the CPU cores, thus the delay in waking up the processor and thus the display.
Will do further testing around forced wake locks and hold cpu states.
i disabled the lock screen...so much better! this phone does not pocket dial, so its not needed anyway imo.

[Q] Other ways to turn on/off the screen without using the hardware button

I'm wondering if there's a way (app or manual edit of system files) to make the hardware buttons less used to keep them from getting soft
and for that I'm mainly focusing on the power button as it is frequently used, I have two ideas:
- taking the gesture from the new M8 which is by double tapping the screen, if you're a developer please tell me if it's possible to take that function from the M8 maybe edit it and make it work on the One Max!
- We have a great special thing called fingerprint scanner, and since it's not that good at identifying the owner's fingerprint but always works at identifying fingerprints of people, maybe we can use it to wake up screen by simply swiping the finger over it!
So here is my question and here are my ideas, if you have a good answer for me please share it in the comments!
Thanks XDA!
Also looking for a way to do it, but in my case the reason is my power button stopped working and the only way to wake the device is by plugging a charger. What could I use else before having it fixed by service?
for switching off i use nova launcher with the app "screen off and lock"
DoubleTap on screen now the max going off. (i do this with all phones)
But switching on with doubleTap i always searching how it can work. I have
no idea
my understanding is that without a modded kernel, turning screen ON with touchscreen taps is a no go.
an alternate is to use something like the xposed sense 6 toolkit feature "wake screen with volume buttons". granted it still uses hardware buttons, but at least the power button wont have to take as much "abuse" anymore.
for turning screen off, sense 6 tookit offers gestures on the homescreen. i have mapped swipe down to screen off.
i vaguely remember reading about another xposed mod that can map double tap on status bar to screen off.
just my 2 cents!
edit: i m using another xposed mod called "sense 6 lockscreen mods" that enables double tap to screen off on the lockscreen.

Try WTN by Wolandsoft. Works perfect for me. I was looking for a way to turn on the phone in the car while driving. This works perfectly.

Even better than WTN that I recommended. Just found this one last night. A lot smoother.

Camera timer not working

Ever since I've had this phone I've never managed to get the timer working on the camera. I thought an update would sort this out. Having updated to B140 I see that the timer is now more accesible in 'pro' mode rather than buried in the menu... but it doesn't work. Whether I put it on 2,5 or 10 second delay the shutter goes immediately when I press the button. Could someone please confirm?
Cheers

I tried it just now (normal mode) and it works as supposed. I’m on B140 as of yesterday, and I didn’t try the timer until today. The selection buttons are a bit confusing in the settings depending on theme and colour selection, but once you go back you see what timer mode you have selected and it stays that way.
Thanks for trying. This is plain weird. I can select 2,5 or 10 seconds delay and it appears at the top of the screen but when I press the shutter it takes a picture immediately. I can't imagine hardware damage causing this and I had the same problem in B121 so square bugs seen unlikely. Irritating, as I'd like to try out the night mode.
Works perfectly for me too. Only thing I noticed is that you must lightly tap the shutter button to start the timer countdown - if you hold it down it will take the picture immediately. If you are struggling with that, use the fingerprint scanner as the shutter button, its less sensitive.

Thanks for your reply but nope, just doesn't work. The shutter works immediately. Looks like I have a dud even though it makes no sense as it can't possibly be a hardware problem.
timer for me only works for rear camera and not for front

How do you switch to the pro mode? I am on B160 with the Indian version and presuming would have this feature
No, the pro mode is available on Android 5.1.1 and Indian users are on 5.0.2. So either an update to 5.1.1 or marshmallow should bring us there, hopefully
A full phone reset solved this problem. The timer now works. Many thanks for your answers.

Power button delay caused by Google Assistant (9.0 Pie)

Sony seems to have added a double tap shortcut for the Google Assistant on the power button. This causes a short delay when opening the display. Did anyone find a way to disable this?
Go to settings -> system -> power key behavior -> none

I don't know if it's a placebo effect I'm having, but changing it to none only disables the Google Assistant. The delay is still there. Hope someone confirms this to me, it kinda irritates me.
I was also having this exact issue.
Immediately after going from Oreo to Pie, I was shocked at the delay (even with the power key behavior set to disabled).
Not sure if I am just getting used to it, but it doesn't seem as slow as when I first disabled the setting.
Do you still feel a delay after using it for some time? Shortening Android animation speeds also helps to make it faster.

Definitely still noticable if I look for it, but I got used to it. I like the animation speed so rather not speed it up. I still hope that they fix this next patch.
There is some specific timing to it. If I wake the phone after it's been sleeping for a couple seconds, then there's almost no delay waking and unlocking.
But if I press the power button twice consecutively (or within a couple seconds), then there easily at least a .5 second delay.
