S9 messages app bug? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Ok so I have a weird problem to report. After installing the latest Oreo update over-the-air from T-Mobile this morning, I installed the Galaxy S9 messages app from apkmirror.com, the one with the blue icon.
The messages that functions normally like you would expect it to but any time I get a text message from my wife who has a Galaxy S9, I get the text message twice. This issue can only be reproduced by receiving a text message from My Wife and nobody else.
I have been searching for a solution to this problem and I have already wiped the apps data and cache multiple times but nothing has fixed the problem.
Has anybody who has installed the S9 messages app from apkmirror.com run into the same problem and if so, how have you fixed it?
Update: it seems I'm getting duplicates from all my friends who have T-Mobile android devices, regardless of manufacturer or software version.

This happens randomly to me as well, it doesn't happen all the time but I think it is from those on tmobile as well that send me messages. I'd wait and see if it just clears up on its own. Or switch to another messaging app.

I have since uninstalled the updated version of Samsung messages and the bug is no longer present.
I was hoping for a solution or work around that didn't involve uninstalling the update but perhaps it's a bugged version of the app. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a newer version, hopefully one from a note build and not an s9 build.

If you don't mind sharing - how did you uninstall the updated Messages app? I have the same sporadic duplicate thing going on, so want to go back to stock app. Thank you

Go to settings > apps > messages and click the 3 dot menu button and click uninstall updates.

Update! I have officially figured out what is causing the duplicate text messages after updating to the latest messages app.
In the newest releases, like the ones that came on the S9 and S9+, samsung integrated the message service app into the messages app. This, for some, is causing duplicate text messages when receiving messages from people who are on the same service provider who's devices also have advanced messaging with chat features.
To fix the problem of duplicate texts, you will need to purchase and install package disabler pro ($2.50 - don't be cheap...) from the play store and disable message service app and reboot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...pdp.singleplay
That's all there is to it enjoy no longer getting duplicate text messages just as I am.
Happy Tuesday!

I have recently purchased an S3 and I am quite happy with it except it is showing one unread message and when you open messages there is not any unread messages.
I have managed to clear it by rebooting my phone and then when I receive another SMS it goes back one unread even though I have read.
How do I clear this annoyance.

Are you using the stock messaging app? I bet you're not... If you have a third-party SMS app, the stock messaging app will continue to register and notify about new messages received, even if they've been read in the third-party app.
To resolve this, just switch off notifications in the stock messaging app.
This is a bug in the firmware, it has been fixed you just need to wait for the OTA to be pushed to your phone

No. This is a problem with some S3s. Check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705015
My colleague had this issue and I played around with it on Friday without success but she says that the issue was resolved on Friday and she has received several messages and calls but the 1 is not stuck on the icon after reading the message anymore. I am at a loss as to what I did...

Problems with facebook chat integration

Hi,
i have a strange problem: i'm constantly connected to facebook chat with my WP7.
(last update)
but i don't receive messages directly to WP7
so when i connect to facebook on my computer i see messages i never had on my phone...
does anybody got the same problem? it was working good 2 month ago and now it doesn't
Is it after updating to Tango?
Delete your Facebook account from your phone and unlink it on your Live account and then join them back together.
This is a problem that is starting to show up for a lot of users. Me included.
Most likely something to do with the integration itself. No one has been able to fix it as far as I know. Happens both on Tango or non-Tango so it's not related to that.
I can get like one or two messages from Facebook in the chat but then I get no more only to find out I got more messages if I log in to Facebook on the web and take a look. The messages just stops being delivered to the phone for some reason.

Have you ever used some kind of third party Facebook Messenger. I used to use IM+ which caused problems, because It didnt sign me off accurately, and left me signed in. This caused the same behaviour that you described. I suggest you to log in to your facebook accout and remove all the unused apps from your profile, and try It again. If It now works, maybe there is something with your operator, maybe they have network instability and lose some network packages or anything like that. If nothing works, try to do a hard reset, but make a backup before that in case It didnt solve your problem.
Yep exactly same thing
i already tried:
- hard reset
- disconnect / reconnect in "Messages" tab
- switch from "available" to "offline" and get back to available
- as OndraSter said, remove facebook link in Live, and then relink it
i hope Microsoft will solve the problem.
as far as i know, everything goes through Live no? so i think it's microsoft problem, not facebook
and i never used other softwares (like IM+)
I had this problem. Solved by itself.
What happens is when you reply a facebook message via integrated message app you'll stop receiving messages until you disconnect and connect again. Seen to be a problem with live integration with facebook, hope it'll be fixed with the new revamp they'll do to make MS web pages more metro.

[Q] Restoring Deleted Texts

Hi All,
I'm new here, clearly. I did a fair amount of searching (albeit I may have overlooked the one thread to answer my question), but I need some help. I'm not familiar with the dev side of phones, nor am I very educated by any means.
I recently somehow deleted all of my texts on my vwz galaxy s4 32gb blackmist. I can see that when I open a contact and view the history - the text messages still exist there. I tried the Dr. Fone app by wondershare (and paid for it). Didn't work. I just rooted my phone to see if that would help, and while successful in the rooting, still have found that I can not revive my dead texts.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
Much thanks,
Matt
I too have deleted text messages from my phone when clean flashing ROMs. To restore, download the Verizon Messaging app from the Play Store. Set is as your default messaging app, and refresh the messages. Then open your regular messaging app and it should update with the old text messages.
After this you can uninstall the Verizon app. I use Hangouts for text messaging and for me it's a 3 step process: run Verzion meesaging, then load the standard Messaging apk, and then finally run Hangouts.
Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the advice; I did download the vzw messaging app and set it as default. I don't see a "refresh" for this app - but have toyed around and think I've tried everything to no avail.
I'm trying my best here to not sound like an idiot - but I'm not sure how to 'refresh.' I still do see quite a bit of messages in the history of each contact.
Do i need to go into settings to make default app or simply just set it when it asks?
Any more advice?
Thanks again.
That app seems to imply that it only lets you restore messages that have been synced with Verizon in the last 90 days. That makes more sense. I didn't think they kept a user-accessible log of all SMS messages (could be wrong).

[Q] - How can I fix Lollipop notification bug

Ever since lollipop came out my phone no longer gives me instant notifications. Often times I will receive them an hour after I should have. Generally, the notifications that are lagging are emails from gmail app and messages from the meetup app among others. After the 5.0 update came out I've read numerous posts online about this issue and that turning off wifi connection will make the notifications push through just fine. That worked for awhile, but with the recent update to 23c(i think) not even that works.
I rooted my phone in hopes to fine a kitkat rom to use, as it was lollipop that effectively ruined the use of my phone. Though I've also noticed that some of the lollipop roms (skydragon) claim to fix the issue by disabling IPv6, yet skydragon somehow disabled push notifications all together. So my question is, how do I fix this notification issue. Is there an app/script i can install to fix it? Or is there a good rom I can use that will work? Thanks.
This may not be strictly related to Lollipop. On May 29, I received the following eMail from Google:
Starting on June 27th, 2015, SMS notifications from Google Calendar will no longer be sent. SMS notifications launched before smartphones were available. Now, in a world with smartphones and notifications, you can get richer, more reliable experience on your mobile device, even offline.
To receive notifications on your smartphone, either configure the calendar app that came with your device or install Google Calendar for Android or iPhone. For more information on how to configure notification defaults, check out the Help Center.

This bug was fixed with the 24b update. And yes @DeanGibson it is related to the 23c lollipop update.

Issues with Google Android Messages App Not Receiving MMS and LG's Messenging App

Hey guys...so since I've owned my V30 I've always been a user of Google's Messages app. It works flawelessly other than the fact that MMS's and Group Messages don't always come through. They'll show who sent them and state something along the lines of "unable to download, please click to retry" after doing so, sometimes the message is recovered sometimes it is not able to. More often not able to. Recently, it would seem I've become more annoyed with this issue. After many calls back and forth the with T-Mobile they've recommended I ditch Google's Messages app and use the included LG Messaging app.
Well, I can tell you...I no longer have issues not receiving MMS's or Group Messages....The issue I have now is, the LG app is SUPER SLOW. It can take 10-30 seconds just to open a chat....and if I have a group chat open with an active chat...the entire phone and app will freeze until the last message has stopped being received.
Does anybody have any suggestions to getting Google Messages working, or speeding up the LG Messaging app? I am not rooted so I'm stuck using this crappy app even disabled and not the default messaging app. I also removed LG Package disabler to see if turning something off was the issue but it is not.
