WiFi calling on T-Mobile Note-8 using Straight Talk (AT&T) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hello
I'm using a T-Mobile Note-8 that has been unlocked (from T-Mobile) and currently have a Straight Talk (AT&T) service.
Reason for buying the T-Mobile version:
1. Easy unlock.
2. Easy access to hotspot.
Question:
How do I get WiFi calling enabled on this? I'm currently on the latest Oreo CRC2 build...
Searched around but NOT much information that I could find for my specific scenario.
Thanks
Max

Wow... Looks like the T-Mobile Note-8 forum is completely dead.
So there's NO one who is using this device on Straight Talk?

I use straight talk with att byop sim. My model is U1 and I have been looking for an answer for months also. I have tried all the userdata files, CSCs, shortcut tricks, everything I can find but nothing works. Do your service mode numbers work on your phone? Everytime I dial *#*#ANYCODE#* I get an error "Connecttion problem or invalid MMI code"

Thanks bro. I'm on oreo. And also another issue is I think straight talk doesn't technically support the features. I'm running CRC1 on my U1. I just downloaded the ATT CRC2 userdata file and was gonna flash that but also was actually gonna ask if you (or if you know anyone who may have) happen to have the CRC2 ATT CP file uploaded anywhere so I didn't have to download the whole stock firmware.

Ok. Sounds good. Thanks for the tip. Do you think the modem is worth the download? I know it's all circumstantial but just curious what route you would take

I wanted to do the same thing as well.. Flash with AT&T CRC2, but then the hot spot feature goes away.
At this point, I want the hot spot more than WiFi calling.. So kind of giving up on this

OK what I mean is can it be done successfully (porting, etc.)? I want the wifi tethering (aka hotspot) feature that exist on all international variants of the phones, not locked by the stupid US carriers trying to rip-off it's customers by making you pay again for the same data you already purchased.

Do you have Att though? I think he's referring to using the att model on another network like I am doing as well. I'm using on tmobile and some users report, after having to edit system configs to be able to even turn on hotspot without an error, that they don't have any data once connected.

Hi, send a private message, i can tell you about that
Hello Guys,
I can't see how could be possible to download a "Porto Rico" (H820PR) software in ATT version.
Normally, Bootloader checks if region code matches before flash.
Could you please explain more about this procedure?

Its not more of the bootloader, but Antirollback. This works perfectly on older LG's like the G2, G3, G Pro, etc.

Has anyone been able to get WiFi calling or VOLTE to work on the U firmware? I haven't been on it in a while.
Edit: not sure why i quoted you for this question. Lol sorry.
I have been trying to get it working as well. I wish that att would support wifi calling like T-Mobile does I only get 1-2 bars and sometimes no signal when I'm at a certain spot in my workplace and when I had the original att software on my phone I loved wifi calling, I don't particularly miss VOLTE though
Thank you so much for doing this. I was using the wrong Odin to flash.
Quick question on this. Now that I am running the U firmware, will I get OTA updates? I'm using a Cricket sim card.
I hated the AT&T firmware so much. I'm so much happier with this.

Need to flash T-Mobile firmware in order for at least wifi calling to work.
after flashing this firmware.. I noticed a huge gain in performance.
and mobile hotspot works, I run cricket unlimited, and will come in handy.
I like the clean appearance and the smooth responsiveness, I used the AT&T firmware and I used PDP to disable a ****load of bloat, but nothing like this smooth.
not to mention I'm getting updates, which I'm more happy about.
this is really nice to have.
Had anyone tried this and used on rogers?

Next put your phone in download mode and open odin make sure all firmware files are in the right spot and click start wait until your phone boots into recovery mode and restarts, after that to clean up old temp files factory reset in recovery when your phone boots to the welcome screen, after that you are finished. THIS is For att and tmobile phones only unless your verizon phone is using one of the two carriers sprint won't work due to proprietary activation processes. As long as you had att unlock the phone you are fine
I bought it "factory unlocked" so I'm not sure who did it. What would happen if att didn't unlock it?
Please help me understand
I see some forums on this site that says, " G930UUEU2APEH flashes to g930a" then you have this post that says G930U firmware on SM-G930A. It seems as if one is saying to take the G930U and go to G930A and the other saying G930A and go to G930U. I thought the advantage is to go to the U and get off the A. Please confirm if this is the case. Granted then if this is the case... then, what are the advantages of going to the U? From what I understand it gets rid of the bloatware, and makes it so you can tether?
Also once I go, are there any negative reasons for me not to go from A to U?
Does this give me the current version of Nougat?
Do I get the upgrades from AT&T to keep up with future version of Nougat?
Also before proceeding to the U version MUST I first ROOT my phone?
Also MUST my phone be UNLOCKED?
Thanks in advance,

None, unless you like the ATT bloat.

No, you will get the U OTAs from now on.

No WiFi calling option

I have an international S9+ (SM-965F/DS, 256G) and noticed there is no WiFi calling option under Connections/More Connection Settings (or anywhere else). What's up with that? The phone passed all authenticity checks I threw at it, including working Iris scanner and dual-aperture camera, so I really don't think it's a fake.
Of note, I have 2 T-Mobile Sims in it, and everything else seems to be working fine.
Stumped...
Unless you unlock the bootloader and flash the T-Mobile CSC, WiFi calling, VoLTE, video calling, and RCS will not work on the SM-G965F.
Wow, really? Where can I get TMo firmware? And if I do that, will it trip Knox and kill Samsung Pay? Also, will I get Tmo OTA updates after that? Thanks.

That is incorrect! I have it working perfectly fine on my Canadian version 965W. Did you flash to U1 and stay there or did you flash to the TMB U firmware? I have tried both but went back to U1 because of the updates contain the v2 bootloader. I don't have the option to turn it on in U1 but when I connect to WiFi, WiFi Calling automatically is enabled and yes, I have made calls over WiFi to confirm it works.

Thanks, I'll correct my post to say SM-G965F instead of "any non-US model". It seems that the SM-G965W firmware contains all the T-Mobile bits (eg. /system/framework/TmoWfcUtils.jar), while the SM-G965F does not.

The Canadian and US model are essentially identical.
Our exynos devices are vastly different but also superior in many ways. No locked bootloader for us, snap doesn't even have root!

In the UK, you will need to have a "branded" handset.
My S9+ was originally from Vodafone, but I'm using it on Three.
To get WiFI calling, I flashed the stock Three firmware.
You can probably get away with a BTU firmware, and flashing your carriers CSC, but I couldn't be bothered as there was very little bloatware on the Three firmware.

Ah - well that explains it!
Do you have linkage to the Three 9+ firmware?
I have heard there is a way to change the CSC without rooting, unlocking bootloader, or tripping Knox. I want to avoid that in order to continue using Samsung Pay. Mixing and matching firmware can be hit and miss. I wouldn't swap Exynos bootloaders with SnapDragon or vice versa though. The CSC contains the bulk of the carrier related settings and apps. There are usually two CSC files. One will wipe, one won't. The CSC_HOME doesn't wipe but may cause some issues. The other will wipe, at least to some degree. You also might want to look at some of the Combination ROM's available to see if they have all of what you need.
In order to flash without tripping things. The modded or patched version of ODIN is needed.

So if I wanted to flash the US T-Mobile stock firmware, how would I do it? Where would I even get the firmware? It's not on sammobile as far as I can see.
So I flashed the XEU most recent firmware - released a couple days ago. My device is SM-G965F BTU. Downloaded via SamFirm and flashed the four files with Odin.
Now have VoWifi and VoLTE.

Good News!! The brand new XEU stock firmware with may security patch for the S9+ works with WiFi calling and Volte so no need to use the three firmware anymore. I don't know about TMobile but the changelogs stated improvements to Volte and VoWiFI so my guess is that lots of carriers where added to get it work in the multi CSC. Btu for some reason uses a different non multi CSC so don't use BTU

LG G8 Volte Fix.

So to use this, you will need to be bootloader unlocked, magisk perma rooted, and twrp installed, DM Verity Disabled this is a must!!(its always good to make a nandroid before making any changes on your phone). What this will do is more or less provision your Lg G8 to your Desired Carrier, it will also let you change your apns, so you have volte working and also the data indicator will change to match the carrier. WIfi calling i have not been able to get working, i personally do not use it. .
*Copy the files manually, it seems flashing them directly is causing unforeseen issues*
1.Extract to Content of zip to Sdcard
2.Make a copy/backup of your own files apns.xml,,custom_apk_list.xml,telephony.xml inside /product/op/config and cust.prop from /product
3.Copy and paste the files from my zip to:
apns.xml,,custom_apk_list.xml,telephony.xml to /product/op/config
cust.prop to /product/op
make sure permissions are 644.
4.Reboot your device it should now be provisioned to your Desired Carrier.

Hi. I have a LM-G820UM that I got off ebay a while ago. It boots as Sprint. It's unlocked and I'm on Tmobile. VOLTE/calls only work on 3G and if there is no 3G available then I can't receive/make calls. With Tmobile requiring VOLTE effective Jan, will this fix the issue to where I don't need to buy a new phone?

Only way to get Volte for your specific network is to unlock the bootloader, as you will need the op files from the network you want to use volte for.
Has anyone tried these on the Sprint V50 and/or GSI ROMs?

Thanks antintin. I am hoping someone does an pull of the current stock ROM for the Sprint V50 since Sprint doesn't provide KDZ's.
