Cannot View 60FPS Media Content - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

This is an issue I've been dealing with since I got my Note 8 back in September.
I haven't been able to view 60 FPS streams from apps that offer that content.
Apps like:
NFL Sunday Ticket
DirectvNow
Playstation Vue
Streams from those apps never load to 60FPS. 60FPS worked fine for me in all those apps on my Note 5.
The only apps it works on is YouTube, and I think Twitch worked iirc.
Has anyone else had this issue, and were you able to resolve it?

Anyone??

No one?

[Q] Issues with recorded videos over DLNA/Allshare

I've searched thoroughly on this and no solutions, only a few other users reporting the same problem.
Got a TV, Blu-ray player, or network media player that supports DLNA? Can you record a video on your Vibrant, and successfully play it on your client device? I think I saw someone say they had success using a WD Live HD Plus...but I'd sure like to get confirmation before I go get one.
I picked up a Samsung BD-C6900 player that ought to do this. Getting the networking set up on both the phone and the blu-ray went extremely smoothly. The Avatar trailer plays over DLNA perfectly. But videos recorded with the phone's camera? No go. They play for a second or two, then freeze, then sometimes pick up again, much farther into the clip, then freeze again. Even on the smallest resolution.
The C6900 is going back, unless I get some satisfaction from level three support in the morning...by the time I got that far tonight, the department had closed for the day.
So maybe I try the WD, or wait until some future time when Samsung finally gets around to doing the engineering that should have been done before releasing product, and spreading hype about Allshare that crosses the fine line from fraud into marketing.
Any other experiences or ideas?
---
Update 10/1/2010 5PM MT:
Amie at level 3 support did not have any solutions, but was conscientious in taking down the data to relay to development.
I discovered that turning off "record audio" results in videos that play through allshare correctly, excepting the highest resolution mode. Even though they play correctly, there is a notice at the beginning: "Audio codec not support". This notice also sometimes briefly appears at the start of the malfunctioning videos that do contain audio.
I've copied the videos over to Ubuntu and used mplayer -identify to start analyzing them. Nothing jumps out as suspicious. In both cases, the audio format ID is 255 and mplayer selects the FAAD AAC codec. Mplayer plays them all fine.
I tried Twonky Mobile Server in addition to allshare, and it behaved similarly to allshare. It produced a log file in which the most interesting difference between avatar_trailer and the recorded videos is that DLNA profiles were found for the malfunctioning videos, but no profile was found for the Avatar trailer.
I wonder if something is triggering on-the-fly transcoding to happen, even though it should not be needed? On-the-fly transcoding is something that can happen under DLNA, so that broader compatibility can be achieved. It's going to be slow, though, on these embedded processors. Slowness due to transcoding would be consistent with the symptoms. I don't know whether such transcoding would happen on the server end (phone in this case), or the client end. Anyone, anyone? Bueller?
My next experiment will be to burn the videos to disc and see what the C6900 does with them in that case.
Update 10/1/2010 10PM MT: All the videos play fine when burned to disc. So it's purely an allshare issue...but is it on the phone end, or the BD player end? I checked back and found the source of the report that the WD Live worked with DLNA from a Vibrant...but it was not claimed that videos recored using the Vibrant's camera worked. So I have never seen any report of anyone ever playing their Vibrant-recorded videos using DLNA/allshare. Seems like something amiss on the phone end, then...but why, if the video files themselves are OK, do two different DLNA server apps (allshare and Twonky) both fail in the same way?
Next experiment: stream to Windows 7 as the DLNA client.
I would like to capture the DLNA streams, but am not sure how to go about that.
Mods: I see you moved this to Q&A. I think perhaps it would be a better fit in Development, now?
Tried flashing a different ROM, Frankin-Twiz Final. It has allshare removed. TwonkyServer Mobile had Unrecoverable Error on startup. So I restored to stock.
(someone has since posted a dlna.apk in that thread that restores allshare)
I had to reinstall Twonky after flashing back to stock, and after that, it worked better! There must have been an update to it in the interim...
Still not perfect; there are pauses every few seconds, but it resumes from the right spot.
My best guess is that an on-the-fly transcode is happening due to the unusual 32k audio sample rate of the camcorder videos. The client device probably doesn't support that rate over dlna. I bet some client devices do, and would play the videos smoothly.
Hopefully a firmware update for the BD-C6900 player will come along that fixes it.
I acquired a Western Digital Live Plus HD player at Best Buy for $99. With the Vibrant running TwonkyServer Mobile, the WD plays all videos perfectly, even 720p!
I didn't try allshare--no reason to bother, and I like how Twonky stays running in the background and lets you do other things on the phone.
The C6900 is boxed up ready to go back to the store.

[Q] archos gen 8 video error

idk if anyone else has put the new market on their tablet but i did and was trying to get the videos app to play on it but its throwing an error and wont load i was wondering if anyone has found a fix for this or if it is an issue with the tablet not being google certified.Anyone have any ideas on a fix?
That has nothing to do with the Market, as it is working for "everyone" else.
What type of Video?
Where is that video?
Rebooted?
i mentioned the new market only because the video rental is a feature of the new market i knew that wasnt the cause but ive tried three different movies and im using the videos app in the market i was thinking it just doesnt support archos but i wasnt sure do you know of any other ways to play videos rented from the market on the tablet other than the videos app? also i tried rebooting and its actually occurred on two different 101s cuse i just got my replacement today
Where did you state that you are talking about the new google video rental?
As this is ( if it would work ) only available in the us, i can't helop you there.
That's what I meant by the videos app I was referring to theories rental service but the videos app is the player used to play the rented videos from the market
Could you please try to talk in a way that someone outside your head could get what you are talking about?
What is your problem?
Is that Google Videoplayer not working or is the "normal" Videoplayer not able to play the google encrypted and drm'ed videos?

MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!

So awhile back I sent an email to both BSplayer and MXplayer devs.. Asking if they could implement something in their app that gives full screen hdmi like Google play movies does, where it goes in to "hdmi mode" and the output is full screen...
Long story short MXplayer got back to me and had me send them some pictures of the Google app at work as well as what it looks like using mxplayer...
They just emailed me this morning saying they figured it out and it will be implemented in the next major update!!
Woohoo!!
I still think google needs to implement full ui scaling... But this is a great step
If this belongs in the apps section feel free to move it... I put it here because it is more about the hdmi than the app to me
AW: MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!
Sounds good. Let's hope that the next update will be soon.

I have been waiting for this for a while and it's finally here, time to give Mxplayer another shot
:good: Thanks
Hopefully netflix do the same ..
Sv: MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!
It's great they fix this. However I would prefer a system wide setting before individual app. Now we need to fix this for every app we want it.
But I'm very greatful to mx player developers who fix it on their side.
Skickat från min HTC Desire via Tapatalk 2
I totally agree... It should have been system wide from the beginning...
Beware of the latest update. It doesn't like tablets apparently, definitely the N10. It will force close trying to load any video. I had to restore the previous version to get it working again.
Update: Problem fixed by updating the custom codec to the matching version.

Great news! Thank you! :victory:
This is where they say so https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/mx-videoplayer/VkTmfrueMYk
Sweet mxplayer rocks! Thanks for the info!:good:
Did this get implemented? I don't see anything @,@
In the mean time I use this hack from the android terminal
Code:
am display-size 2560x1440
And to reset

Has anyone gotten MX player to work with the android 4.3 update?

See: "MX Player alternatives for Android 4.3" dosn't look like there is a working player for HD content yet (as of Jul 25th 12:30PM EST) issues throughout various players are dropped frames (HD content) to no audio.

Wait a minute: Are you saying that with a single update Google has managed to render ALL HD video players non-functional on the Nexus 10?
That's hard to believe.....
And I think, that would have to be considered a significant problem.....
Oh well who wants video on a media consumption device anyway.....I'm sure Google has it all figured out...

As of (Jul 27th 8:20PM EST), MX Player Pro still does not work but:
> VLC arm7 Nightly from git 0.1.3+ works but not on HD content even with HW acceleration enabled the audio is out of sync
> I am reading that VPlayer works but have not tried it myself
> Of course Google's own Movie player works
There are other apps that no longer work with 4.3 which will need updates (e.g. full!screen, ServeStream, Superuser ... etc). All told this is a temporary blip with some devs playing catch up. Unfortunitely MX Player Pro plays a central roll in my N10 usage so that is a pain. In the mean time I'm using Plex for HD content and VLC for my transcoded NAS content.

LOL Yes VPlayer Works but in Software only mode (h264 mkv files) and just barely (video isn't very smooth) - which I suppose is a testimony to how powerful the processor in the Nexus 10 is - it can decode h264 video and audio reasonably well in software - problem is, your are maxing out the processor to do this, so just about any other process will cause the video to periodically slow - and I can only imagine what software only decoding will do to battery life when watching videos...
The built in player seems to have two modes: choppy and unwatchable or smooth and silent ( no audio ) so it appears useless as well
I suspect transcoding everything to mp4 might work, but seriously? Back to that again?
The Nexus 10 had spoiled me. Its been working so well for so long I've lost patience with all these stupid format games and transcoding - just want something that works at this point.
I'm surprised - this was touted as a minor update - sure has broken a lot of things for a minor update....
For me BSPlayer is working for 1080p mkv videos. Both VLC and MxPlayer don't work.

[Q] Youtube app constant buffering issue?

Hello, I originally posted this on r/androidquestions on reddit but received no responses in well over a couple of months. Thought I'd try my luck here even though I never get replies. ;p
I got this weird issue on all my devices where after a certain point the video freezes, buffers for ~8 seconds, plays for a couple and repeat. This is not video specific and changing the quality does not fix this, it just makes the problem appear later on. In HQ quality, after about 1:45 minutes of playing flawlessly it starts buffering the whole damn time. SQ quality can play up to 3-4 minutes before any issues arise.
This is on a broad range of devices, both mine and those of friends. My own Samsung Galaxy S2 running CM10.1 and Cube U30GT running CM10, but had the issue on stock, and a stock Galaxy Note and HTC Hero 2.
Other info. It's not network related. Happens on both wifi and 3g and on different connections/ISPs. My own Internet connection clocks up to 20mbps and has no problem playing any YT video on my PC. Other "streaming" video stuff work great. Twitch.tv plays great as does dailymotion. Other players, other than the default YT app, have no issues playing videos even on HQ. YT through the browser works fine but somehow doesn't let me switch to HQ and the "UI" generally feels bad. Feedly (which is great btw), has a sort of plugin that uses the YT app to play videos natively. Any videos played in the feedly app, using this "plugin" play great even in HQ, which is weird. I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, stalling, killing, maiming, clearing data+cache, completely wiping the devices and sacrificing firstborns to Lucifer.
This feels like a caching issue of the youtube app. It feels like it starts caching up to a point (playing great in the process) and at some points cache fills up and starts deleting in order to make space to cache further. That leads to the pause and buffering of the video.
Has anyone else experienced issues like this and has managed to fix them? Does anyone techsavvy enough know if it's indeed a cache issue and how to bypass it?
bumping.
Seriously, I've never got a reply to any of my threads.
Isn't news. YouTube app sucks. I have an iPhone and frequent Apple forums quite often and its preferred to use the YouTube web app or 3rd party app over the actual app. Just getting throttled. My biggest gripe with Androids YouTube app is there is no way for it to use SD as the default resolution.
I just tried the WiFi optimization with no effect. If I wait a couple hours it will stream HD no problem once network traffic slows down. I have a 30 mbs home connection which I can get those speeds easily, usually much higher, but not to a YouTube server between 3pm - 11pm.

Playing videos from dropbox

All I have found is older threads on the subject.
Currently running TeamVenom Viper 1.60 ROM.
Out of the box, the phone still has the issue.
Which is...
Difficulty playing videos on drop box that camera uploaded.
They will open the player and start to stream but won't playback like they should.
No problems doing this (over wifi or LTE) on iOS 7.1.1 or 4.4 KK on other devices.
Plenty of speed both on wifi and LTE so that's not the problem.
Any solution to this?
I've tried a variety of video players but all have the same issue.

Thanks, tried that player a while ago.
Same issue.
Really weird because S4/S5 devices, both stock and rooted, don't have this issue.
Yeah, besides that one time of a connection time out to server I've been able to view videos from drop box on my Stock M8
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sorry to necro an older thread, but found out something of interest over the holiday weekend...
I believe this may be a Sense related issue.
I have a Note 3 that plays back videos on dropbox without an issue at all. Typically takes a few seconds, sometimes even less to start playing with no pausing, etc. It's a T-Mobile unlocked to ATT and is running Jovy's Darthstalker V7.
On a stock M8 as well as custom rom (Team Venom which is pretty much the best rom for this device) has the issue unfortunately.
