I've noticed that if my E3D goes into sleep mode while in an open app, it can be very sluggish refreshing my desktop once I take the phone out of sleep. As a matter of fact, the desktop seems sluggish to refresh (and navigate occasionally) more than I would expect from a phone this powerful.
I am using LauncherPro which has probably not been optimized for the E3D and may very will be the culprit. I recall that under the EVO 4G there was some fix for improving screen refresh speed but I can't recall what it was.
Any ideas?
I've had a lot of problems with LP since I've gotten the 3d that I never had with the 4g. The problem you are describing, opening app drawer and the apps disappearing all together, etc. So I went back to ADW EX and haven't had any problems at all in the last 3 days its been installed.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
launcher pro seemed sluggish on my sensation also, but go into preferences/advance and change memory setting from very low to light or moderate, (your pref). I change mines to light and noticed a total improvement when switching between screens and opening the app drawer.
I have a very similar problem using Go Launcher Ex. I'm actually tempted to go to the original sense. The only thing I'll miss is the ability to create folders in the application drawer and hide app icons.
if you go into preferences
advanced settings
I have the minimum scrolling speed set to 100,
both app drawer/opening speed AND Screen preview/opening speed are set to 10
LP is known to have issues on GingerSense ROMS. Nobody is sure why, but the laggy animations are also telltale signs that it's the app itself. I used to prefer LPP but I now use ADW EX because of this behavior.
I set memory usage to 'medium' works smooth for me
Just a word to the wise: if you're having any Launcher crashes and screen brightness changes, it might be due to having the ASUS Task Manager widget running. I noticed that whenever I switched to the screen containing that widget, the screen dimmed, then returned to normal when I switched to another screen. Also, my Launcher was crashing, and I just today noticed it was only crashing when I switched to that screen.
I've since removed the widget, and those problems went away.

I haven't had any of this, but I have noticed that at low brightness settings just about any ASUS widget causes an annoying sputter of the brightness.
I also have the ASUS Task Manager fc all the time, so I just don't use it. Android isn't supposed to need such things anyway and I have faith lol
Task manager does fc pretty often. Thing is I find it so useful. Ill see things running and be like wtf is that doing running. I have no plans on using that app or process n has no business being in active tasks. Lol. I might go a similar route and get rid of it for a while. But its really the only way tl truly close an app out. You can back out of browser n think its closed but its still actually running in background burning up ram unless you manually close it through task manager or system panel.
Ill see how long I can go without needing to use it or look at it and see how things go. Still been getting annoying android.androidprocess.media has stopped message. Need to figure out what is constantly causing that. Hopefully getting rid of Asus task manager will solve that.

As for the browser, don't back out. Just close all the tabs, and it'll close the tab and the browser absolutely.
As for all the other processes, I know what you mean, but my battery is much less affected ignoring them than killing them (using the screen and sensors) and just having them return with time.
The task manager is about junk.
FC often.
Stops keeping up to date often.
Sizing makes it contract to center versus close up from bottom.
Wont accept interactions.
There's no need to kill the Internet browser task. RAM uses the same amount of battery all the time as it requires a constant charge to prevent it losing its data. If you fill RAM up, the power usage stays constant. Android will close background tasks if a foreground task requires more memory.
Only ever kill tasks if they're inexplicably using CPU.
I dont think the merits of task killers is at question. The lame task killer is.

Both really.
I mean, this is certainly the more useless of the ones I've tried. But even the best of them are generally useless considering the platform we're on. The only decent ones are those that watch your CPU usage per app (like watchdog or whatever).
I guess it gives people peace of mind, but the only time it is actually good to use one is like danieldeanhodge said, when there are run-away processes sucking CPU usage. That's what gives you battery drain as the RAM stays pretty consistent on its consumption: that's why the TF700t is going to have worse battery life under all circumstances, it has more hungry RAM.
Crashes for me all the time too. I removed it.
Do note that I'm not specifically talking about the Task Manager widget itself crashing. I actually didn't get that very often. What was happening to me is that the Launcher was crashing--it would throw up the "Wait or Close" dialog and then all icons and widgets would disappear from the home screens. I'd have to go into Settings and force close Launcher to get them to come back. After too many times of that, I'd have to reboot to resolve.
Getting rid of the Task Manager not only solved that problem, but it also resolved the issue of the screen brightness being inconsistent as I changed home screens, and also my UI is much smoother as well.
Bottom line is: I think the ASUS Task Manager is just really badly done and turning it off made a world of difference in how my Prime is performing.

That's nuts, the launcher crashing...
I think all the ASUS widgets are this way with regards to the changing brightness (only happens to me on lower settings). I've noticed it with the Task Manager and the Weather anyway.
I appreciate their work, but ASUS is a h/w manufacturer: I don't understand why they're trying to be another closed system or why they're trying to push themselves as a major developing team or whatever, but they don't seem to be doing well with it.
Sometimes when I go to the stock launcher, I just get my wallpaper.
The screen is totally blank and I cannot access my home screen or the app launcher.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I have two Archos Android tablets that do that regularly. They do recover after some 10s of seconds. The Archos tablets are rather weak in the CPU department, which I think causes their hanging lags getting back to the home screen. My Prime never does that. Do you have some odd non-default settings or possibly some big nasty animated wallpaper? Could you have some application running in the background hogging a lot of resources?
I'd be tempted to perform a factory reset and reinstall all my apps. I basically did that when I upgraded from my original Transformer to my Prime. Amazon and the Android Marketplace had all my stuff, so it was not such a big deal.
Bye.

This was happening to me when I had the ASUS Task Manager widget running. I'd swipe to the screen that had it running and Launcher would crash. Then all home screens would go blank and I'd need to force close the Launcher to get things back to normal.
I removed the Task Manager widget, and mine hasn't done it since. So, if you have that widget running, you might try getting rid of it.
Am i the only one who notices that the stock launcher when going between homescreens is not very smooth? I seem to have to move my finger about 2 inches before it starts "turning the page" as it were, and then its very jittery going between the screens. Has anyone else noticed this?
what can i do to fix it?
You shouldn't have to "move your finger" at all. Just touching the edges of the screen moves between the different home screens.
As for general sluggishness: What apps are you running? Are you using a live wallpaper? How many widgets do you have active? What power mode are you running?
I haven't had any severe jitter or sluggishness, but I found that certain live wall papers made my Prime noticeably slower when switching home screens. Certain widgets also made things sluggish. Since turning them off made things run smooth I can only assume that some downloadable widgets and wallpapers just aren't optimized very well.
Just reverted back to stock and its nice and smooth. will have to monitor what apps i install, widgets i use, etc. to see whats causing it.
I like sliding between screens instead of tapping the edges to flip pages... used to it from using my phone.
hopefully i can track down whats causing the lag i was experiencing.
As to the setup i had:
Asus weather widget
Asus task manager widget
Asus date widget
One page dedicated for games, like 20 shortcuts for games
one page dedicated for other apps, maybe 15-20 shortcuts to apps
always in performance mode, why bother reducing speed when the battery lasts longer than i need anyways?
I'm sure some of you have experienced the Recent Apps button (3 button navigation) not working with 3rd party launchers (Nova, Microsoft, etc). The only fix I have been able to find is to switch the default launcher to the Pixel Launcher, and then back to your 3rd party launcher of choice.
Luckily, I have been able to replicate this problem consistently. While using a 3rd party launcher (Nova launcher in my case), open any app (and only one) and press the Recent Apps button 3 times quickly. The Recent Apps button should stop working. It does not break when there are no recent apps or when there are 2 or more.
Hopefully, this information might be helpful to minds smarter than my own.
If anyone else is experiencing this or is able to replicate the issue as well, I'd like to hear what your setup and experience with the issue is.
Your browser is not able to display this video.
I've been using Nova on my P6 since I got it, until 2-3 days ago anyway when I decided to try Gesture Navigation instead.
I've never had the issue you're showing, not a single time. What I DID encounter a few times is that instead of the proper Recents overview when tapping on Recents I'd only see a weird view of my homescreen, like when you longpress anywhere on the homescreen, except that it was ONLY the homescreen and no settings/wallpaper or other options. That happened randomly and was hard to reproduce, but I've never seen the issue you're showing in the video
Did you import/restore any apps/settings, esp. for Nova, when you set up the phone? That seems to cause a lot of issues when coming from a non-Pixel device. I hard a weird glitch were the display would briefly light up every 10-20 minutes when the phone was just sitting there untouched, a factory reset and fresh install of all apps fixed it.
Maybe try that too?

This is a fresh install of Nova. I Imported all my apps from my Galaxy S10+, so I'll try that and report back with results.
Other than that, what do you think of the gesture navigation? I pretty much wrote it off as soon as I got the phone.

I've never been a fan of it, never used it before and still don't like it. The only reason I'm trying it again is because I'm still not rooted and simply can't stand looking at that ugly white navbar (yea yea, I know I'm weird ). It works I guess, but getting to Recents for example is a hit & miss with gestures, navbar is much more reliable for me.
Whatever your issue is I hope you get it sorted

I can replicate this on my P6 also, 3 taps and recents is broken. I have to change launchers or power cycle (reset) to get it working again. I originally imported settings and apps from an LG V35 10 days ago.

FIX!!!!!!
Settings > System > Developer Options > Animator duration scale
Turn to 'Animation off'
The Window animation scale and Transition animation scale has no effect on this.
After changing this, I have not been able to replicate this issue.
My best guess is that the recent apps button is pressed while the animation is still going, and the phone has the electronic equivalent of a mild stroke.
Can anyone else confirm that this corrects the issue? I haven't seen a solution like this on any of the many threads about this.

Turning animation off prevents the 'recents' button failure, but I wouldn't call it a fix since then animations won't work. Personally I will keep animations set to .5 and try not to press 'recents' too many times. The lack of animations gives the Nova UI a flat and amatuerish look.
This is a Nova bug, probably due to Android 12 incompatability, since it doesn't happen with the Pixel launcher. I guess we can hope that they correct it eventually.
Thanks for identifying the cause, I had this happen multiple times before I read your post and didn't have any idea what was causing it.

I have some shaky hands so I end up pressing the button a few times fairly often.
I think the issue is with Pixel Launcher. I have confirmed that this issue happens in other launchers as well (Microsoft Launcher). I also found that killing the Pixel Launcher fixes it too.

This. I have this problem where the recent apps don't show, and instead I just get a zoomed out version of my homescreen. This happens CONSTANTLY and is the most annoying thing about this phone. It happened to me on the stock launcher as well as on Nova.
Anyone know of a fix for that?

I did tick that, because I couldn't open my recents menu to close apps. I just unticked that option, and still have the same issue happen when I hit the recents button.
It zooms out to a smaller version of my homescreen, and if I swipe up it will close the most recent app, then show the rest of the open apps, if I just swiped to the right to go to another open app, the smaller homescreen slides to the right off my screen but it doesn't show the other running apps. It's almost as if it's having an issue drawing the image of the open apps.

Not sure I'd call it a "fix" but since I switched to Gesture Navigation instead of using the navbar it hasn't happened once. Maybe the P6/A12 does something odd with the Recents button that needs to get fixed through an update, no idea.

I thought that would fix it as well, so I switched to navbar (which I prefer anyway) and it is happening there too . A12 is just so buggy, it's annoying, I hate that companies use the public as their beta testers nowadays
Just noticed it today had it since launch day. Only change was the fingerprint reader update I did yesterday.

I'm coming from an LGV30, running Nova. I was planning to just import settings and apps to my P6Pro when it arrives. Did that ultimately work for you, or did you end up doing a fresh install of all your apps, including Nova?

Actually it worked very well, I was surprised. I used cable method that google recommended with the usb-c cable that came with the phone.
I have done LG to LG imports and Samsung to Samsung but never tried LG to Pixel.
I still had to do a lot of setup steps like passwords, set the home screen to Nova and handle the widgets. Be sure to go the play store and do an 'update all'. But it was much easier and quicker than doing a clean install. I figured I could always do that later if I suspected something was not working.
There are issues with the phone and Android 12 but so far I don't think any of them have to do with the install (of course I could be wrong).
Great! Thanks for the info.
Chiming in with a stock unrooted Pixel 5 using Nova Launcher. My Recents also becomes randomly unresponsive, and I am able to reproduce it using the method in the first post (press three times rapidly). I also get the weird zoomed out blank menu as others have mentioned fairly regularly.
