Just some info for everyone that is wondering, not sure if this has been covered yet, I looked and it seems that it hasn't been mentioned.
This is a very easy way to get customized knock-off (double-tap to turn off screen) working on any non-stock ROM where knock-off might not be included.
1. Download GMD Gesture Control from the market. You should probably use the paid version since the free version doesn't support custom gestures. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol&hl=en
2. Download the Screen Off app (free). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
3. Open up GMD and turn off any gestures you don't want that are included with the app.
4. Click on User Gestures up top, and then click path.
5. Under "Gesture Path", type in "T-T"
6. Click under action, select "application" and select "Screen Off" (the one that you just downloaded).
7. Click "Save" at the bottom, and bam. Double-tap goes to screen off.
**NOTE** I changed the starting zone (in the Create Gesture window) to only recognize double-taps on my status bar region, because often I would shut my screen off without meaning to.
Sorry, if this is a repost, I just spent a long hour pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with Nova launcher (wanted my double-tap to work anywhere in my ROM), and was super stoked when I figured this out.
Great idea I wonder why I haven't thought about this before
Thank you. I tried to spread the word on this method when CM was first released for the G2. My only difference is I use Secure Settings
Edit: just realized you missed another obvious bit
If you use Nova or Apex you can set a double tap gesture to turn off the screen the same way. Suddenly you have the same functionality as LG included

Ah good idea. Then you can have an easier time turning the screen off when you're in your launcher. Good stuff.

How can you do the screen off? I stopped using Nova because I could no longer turn off the screen, there is no turn screen of under gesture settings.

Hi,
It works with Nova, you need to double-tap in the notification bar area (but only here), nothing to set in Nova it works just like that...
How about screen on?

You are correct, there isn't a screen off option. However, you can set the double tap gesture to open a SHORTCUT that will turn the screen off.
I'm assuming the app OP linked to allows you to set a shortcut for screen off. If not, Secure Settings for sure does (it's what I use).
Here's proof that it works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvesNzvgKDQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That video uses OP's GMD Gesture control trick and Nova Launcher's double tap gesture. Only difference is I'm using secure settings instead of the screen off app
Ok, for those who want to use screen off with Nova or CM do this.
Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
in Nova Settings go to gesture and Buttons/ Double tap/ and select Screen off, Simple as that. GL
So used to swipe down on any part of home screen to show notification bar when using Nova launcher
but no longer work in s6 (not sure if it's a know TW issue)
tried both Nova and Apex , both not working
Anyone get it to work? Am I doing anything wrong with setting ? or there is a alternative way to overcome the issue

you don't have what is in this image?
weirdly no, I cant find it, I even use the search function
And i noticed there a some little different in design layout as well, such as no "more" button on right top corner as well as no "off" on the switch button
I'm holding the SM-G925I version
This issue is fixed in the beta version of Nova
Just wait for the newest update when they release it and it will work, or download the beta.

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.
I like to use Nova Launcher for several reasons. However with the new LG V30, when Nova Launcher is active the Double Tap to turn off the screen fails to work. Double Tap to turn it back on works fine, as does the Double Tap from the Lock Screen works for both screen on and off.
Is this a known issue with launchers, or is it an LG V30 issue?
I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.
Thank you for reading,

it is issue of nova launchers
May have to have the paid version, but it's in Nova Settings, then Gestures and Inputs.
That does work! Thanks!

Well I'll be... that works even when Nova Launcher is active. Thank you!
Nova has its own homescreen shortcut for switching off the screen: Widgets -> Nova Action -> activate lockscreen. Of course Nova needs the permission for that.
OMG this is great, thanks for that!

A pretty substance free coment: What was your actual expectation?
Since that shortcut switched off the screen on every Android phone I had so far as long as Nova has the required administrator permissions set. So I see no need to avoid it.

There are two modes, one of which locks the phone, after which the fingerprint unlock doesn't work, you have to enter your code to unlock the phone. The other one doesn't lock the phone at all, it just turns off the screen, and the AOD doesn't show up untill the phone actually times out and locks on its own (it says after 5 seconds, but it's actually 30 seconds for me).
I would agree. The present implementation of Nova Launcher doesn't really follow function or form with the V30's own lockup function. It doesn't really lock the phone up. It just darkens the screen... not secure it.
What I really would like for Nova Launcher to do is to enable the user to use the whole screen to implement the knock code to lock the screen up. I think the reason we can use the notification area alone, is that this is part of the V30's own infrastructure layout, and not a Nova Launcher area.

Yes that always works with Nova.
And if you configure this option, it will also work anywhere on the screen.

Yes but as other posters have said, it doesn't actually lock the phone - it just turns the display black and only locks after the display time out (60seconds in my case). It doesn't turn off the touchscreen, it just blanks it.
If you are rooted nova can lock the screen just as lg launcher does.
Is anyone else having trouble using gestures with third party launchers? For me, they work just fine and then after some time it reverts to buttons and I get the message "System navigation updated. To make changes, go to settings".
Searching around, it seems like people on other phones don't have this problem anymore.
On a different note, I started using fluid navigation gestures (FNG) and I preferred that since I could add more gestures. Problem is if I'm plugged into the dual screen case and I turn off the dual screen - either by turning the screen behind the phone or manually turning it off - and use the notification shade, then the buttons come back and hide and FNG is disabled until I start using the dual screen again.
Anyone have any solutions?

Same annoying issue! I think it happens every time Nova gets restarted but not sure on that. I've searched for a resolution too and can't find one. I tried creating a tasker profile to make it easier to switch back to gestures via a quick setting but it doesn't work. The secure setting to change is navigation_mode value of 2.

Nova shows you an explanation right on the settings page of the problem. Google has not made gestures 100% compatible with 3rd party launchers and there is nothing devs can do until Google gives them what they need
Yes, I've seen that message. I've also seen that Google delivered this ability in December of last year and that some users have this working fine. It's different from when it would gray out the option to use the gestures. This one feels like LGs software is the one resetting the gestures since the notification is titled System UI.
I'd be fine with any solid gesture solution as I'm not mated to the built in gestures, but it seems like others break due to the dual screen. Meanwhile the built in ones fail. I could of course change back to gestures every time this happens, but it feels like I'm using a beta device in this regard.

I don't think it's LG. My wife has the same issue on her Note10, and I have it in both my V60 and my OnePlus 6t all using Nova. Maybe another launcher has implemented the fix?
So far for me Action Launcher seems to be working ok with gestures, even after a reboot. I prefer Nova but this is close.
edit: Dual screen causes the navigation to revert back
I didn't like how the stock launcher only gave you only a few applications to choose from on the top screen when you were in 'T' mode. I played around with Nova Launcher and changing the options to auto rotate seems to work pretty well.
Let me know how you did it. And if you came up with a better solution.
1. Too screen
2. Bottom screen
3. Top screen (app drawer)
@kaluna00
Same here.
I always select auto rotate for any phone w/Nova Launcher.
Another tool I use is Ultimate Rotation Control (Pro) from the Google Play Store. It has a basic default selection & you can customize on a per-app basis.
Been a good while since the app was last updated, but, it's still 100% functional.
This phone would be a perfect candidate for having Nova Launcher as the default home UI, as Razer has with their two phones. Naturally, it'd need a bit of tweaking for the 2nd display, but, anything other than the stock Launcher would be an improvement.

It allows for orientation on a per-app basis.
Basically, you select a default orientation, whatever that may be (say, automatic). Then, if you want certain apps to remain in something else, say, portrait mode, you can select that app to ignore the default orientation & remain locked in portrait mode.
So, the app isn't really necessary for Nova Launcher, but, a nice tool to have for the rest of your apps.
After a factory data reset. I was playing more with the stock launcher. Hi believe it is a little bit snappier. I'm not a fan of the carousel on the top screen. However, you can swipe up and get into the app drawer on the top screen. You also still can double tap to turn the screen off. Without going into an administrator lock where fingerprints do not work (you need to use the pattern or your code)
Microsoft Launcher is good and feels native if you aren't a fan of carousel mode. The icons will just rotate in landscape. Worth checking out.
Ruthless launcher works great and allows you to change the bottom screen launcher as well ;3

Testing out ruthless launcher. Mostly like it. I'll play with it for a few days and let you know how it sticks.
I liked ruthless launcher, but it would not allow me to double tap off the screen unless I gave it elevated rights. I did so, but after you double tap the screen off it locks the phone and you can't activate the fingerprint sensor without hitting the power button. I also noticed that if you double tap to lock the phone and then swing it open the second screen is still unlocked and you have access to the phone. That was the deal killer for me. Back to the stock launcher.
To get out of Carousel mode when you winging the phone open. Just swipe up and you will get to your app drawer
This is my screen setup using
KLWP and the Wing launcher

Allow ruthless to be set as a second screen app. On the second screen select ruthless launcher. Then, swipe up and hold to bring up recent apps. Then pin the ruthless launcher. You should be set after that
