My phone is on default resolution 1080x2220 as it came out of the box. However the browsers on the phone (Chrome and Samsung Internet) have a very low resolution of 412x846. I can post as many screenshots necessary, can someone please help? Phone is not rooted, model SM-G965W (Canadian model)
This is ideal and all phones do this. Modern websites will use what's called media queries to display content appropriate to your screen size. If you want to see the site at maximum resolution, you'll want to toggle over to Request Desktop Site.

the previous android phones i'd been using on t-mobile all provided real, desktop/laptop-like web browsing experiences on the phone. not the constrained and formatted for mobile web http://m.espn.com type browsing. so i was a little disappointed when i activated my optimus v on virgin for the first time today and started browsing to notice that the mobile web always loads websites in the constrained format.
is this a limitation of the handset? is there a setting in the mobile browser that you can perhaps change to view it in real html? or is it a limitation of the network even (virgin/sprint)?
Every serious webpage has somewhere at the end of page an optiom to change to desktop version. For example when you go on Google it gives you desktop/html onl/mobile options.
By defult the site is responsible to decide which version to bring you. It does that by reading you device type, which saiz android.
For example facebook forwards you to touch.facebook.com on smarthphone and m.facebook.com for featurephones.
Any yes browser has a setting to "fool" site what you are using. You can chance user agent in setting all browsers can do this, the options are android/iphone/desktop.....
But i leave this to android, if you chance to desktop you will see desktop facebook, which is much worse than touch version. It is easier to just find at the bottom the link to change to desktop version for sites that think android should be viewing mobile optimized, sily them.
Change your browser's user agent to Desktop or something like that. Skyfire, Dolphin HD, etc lets you do that easily.
For the default browser, check this link.
Out of curiosity what is the optimal settings to use in Dolphin Browser HD on a Rooted NT?
I ask because when i first opened it, it asked which User Agent to use, choices being Android, Desktop, iPhone and iPad, not sure what to choose, i went iPad it was closest in size, but i figured Android would be better so i changed it in the settings.
The thing is, i noticed no difference so can someone explain them a little, or just tell me which setting to use? Also is their any other notable settings to use?
Thanks to all who took the time to read and more thanks to those who answer.
It's what the browser tells the website it is. Some pages redirect you to a mobile site if you pick android.
I usually like ipad as that seems to be the best for the 7" form factor. Sometimes though that still redirects you to the crap mobile site.
Same with desktop, usually good, but sometimes a site is just a mess, especially if they are loaded with a million adds or have mouseover menus.
Android usually redirects to the crappiest but slimmest version of the site. Usually appreciated on my phone, but not so great on my tablet. Usually.
Pick whatever and if there is a site that annoys you then just switch.
Relevant settings on mine:
Dolphin settings
. User Agent = Desktop
Page content settings
. Text size = large
. Default zoom = medium
. Open pages in overview = disabled
These allow me to browse mostly in portrait, which is my preferred orientation.
IME, Dolphin HD is the best of a bad lot. Some pages still don't render correctly. And it does statistics collection which I detest.
Am looking forward to trying the native Firefox once it gets a bit more polish.
Gestures can be turned off via the setup wizard.
Hi to all,
I'm new here, so excuse me if I'm posting something wrong.
I just bought an Asus Transformer tablet, and been enjoying it quite a lot. Except for one single thing - can't seem to find the perfect browser.
For various reasons, mainly speed, I decided upon Dolphin Hd browser. All seems perfect, except that all the websites are streched to my screen resolution and though the images are all blurry. There is a fit to screen option there, but it doesn't work for me. Any ideas how to get the website in the original resolution?
Only browser where it works is Opera, but for me it's quite slow, and I have trouble with some websites i frequent - imdb dropdown menus don't work, flickr menus also... and it always sends me to mobile google search though I turned the desktop mode. :-/
Please help!
Thanks
i think its because the browser is rendering the images.
Hello folks!
U're my only hope. As u may noticed, Cinemagram made it to Android finally. I know there are still many clones but I love Cinemagram and the community behind it plus it's animations are in a better resolution/quality that almost all it's clones.
The problem is: It seems that Cinemagram saves the animations as MP4 files. Plus there's no direct way to save 'em on the phone. Via the share function it is only possible to share the link into a text file (or an Evernote note). When I do so, open Evernote (or the text file) and follow the link I get to the Cinemagram website where the animation is embedded as a MP4. But that's only possible from a PC. From my mobile browsers (even with desktop mode) it's just possible to view the mobile version of the website when I follow the shared link. There - surprisingly - it appears as a GIF and I can save it to my phone. The problem with this way is, that the GIF is reduced to a lower resolution than it is in the app originally.
So it would be great if one of you could make a small app, which appears in the SHARE function of cinemagram and when I use it, it converts the original MP4 (from the desktop version of the cinemagram website) and save it as a GIF on my phone.
Is that possible?
Cheers from Germany

Alright, I'm dare to push this once.
i'm also very interested in this.
Hi all,
I am new to this forum and if I have posted anything wrong or annoyed anyone, please let me know nicely.
Background:
I am very new to andriod (have not used it before) and I am very interested in learning to use it very well (including rooting it). I can write some programming language but I am not familiar with java or anything as fundamental at all, but I am sure I can learn it.
At the moment, I am planning to buy a nexus 7 to build up my android experience simply because it is not expensive and it should run the latest available Andriod being a google device.
Question:
At the moment, I am studying for a professional qualification (with BPP), and their online VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) is extremely annoying on browser, what is even more annoying is that they have "security" to the online streaming lectures, I cannot download them (even with softwares) nor stream them on tablets.
I was wondering if streaming these videos would be possible on a (moded) android? - I have put as much details of the type of streaming below
Dilemma:
Another totally off topic question is regarding nexus 7 2. Should I wait? I was thinking of just buying a 2nd hand or refurbed nexus 7 first and then cut the loses and buy the 7 2 when it comes out. Opinions on this would also be appreciated!
Reference:
Details regarding the videos - this is from their FAQ regarding the videos:
If you still cannot launch the online lectures please run the three diagnostic tests linked to below. Allow each test to complete and then take a screen shot of each result screen. Paste each screen shot into a single document and upload the document with the screenshots when you submit your issue to us using our Contact Form. Some of the tests may take a minute or so to run. Please wait until either 'Test Completed' appears or the flowplayer spinning circle is replaced with an image.
Check your bandwidth using the bandwidth speed test
We use a high compression ratio to make the size of our online lecture files as small as possible. However, to prevent poor quality there is a limit we can go to. This means that anyone launching one will need a minimum download speed of 512kbps. If you have less, then you may not get smooth playback. Carry out a bandwidth speed test to check what your download speed is.
Check you have streaming access using the protocol test
We use RTMPE and RTMPTE protocols to securely stream video to your browser. RTMPE is tried first. If this fails then we try to use RTMPTE. One of these protocol types needs to be enabled. This may be the reason why you can't see anything load. To test for these two protocols please run the protocol test.
The last test is the port test
The ports used for streaming are ports 80, 1935 (TCP) and your default port (normally set to 443). If they are not open for the streaming servers we use then you won't be able to see the lectures. To test the ports please run the port test.
If you need more info please ask - I am very keen to get this working, as I will need it for the next 3 months...
Thank you all very much in advance
Hi guys, could anyone help me please?
