So I'm not sure if its just me but I've tried several different apps to change my Mac address and they just all don't seem to work and you are forced to restart your phone otherwise you are unable to connect back to your WiFi network. But recently I have figured out a way to change your Mac address for devices with android 7.1.2
Here are the steps: (rooted devices only)
1. Download zANTI from their website type zANTI and you should be able to go to their website
2. Download "Change My Mac" from play store the first one that pops up
3. Open zANTI and go to the top left and click on it next go to "Mac Changer" and just click set new Mac address
4. Now open up Change my Mac but don't delete zANTI from your recent
5. Now enter your desired Mac in the box and click the checkmark button then your Mac address should be changed you can check by going to your device info.
You will find no help here. Changing the Mac is illegal in some countries and as such any and all talks about it are not allowed.

I'm not sure whether this post belongs here, but I have googled high and low and I have not found anything that directly pertains to my Samsung Galaxy S2 issue. And here at XDA, the VPN questions seem to be about private VPNs (not commercial).
I am currently running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.XXKG6
I follow these steps for connecting to a LT2P
www_dot_hopthewall_dot_com/wiki/wiki/Android_L2TP_Over_IPSec
And these for PPTP
www_dot_hopthewall_dot_com/wiki/wiki/Installing_personalVPN-PPTP_on_Android_Mobile_Phone
I have tried the PPTP and L2TP
Both fail to connect
L2TP yields:
"Unable to connect to network. Try again?"
But no additional error message.
PPTP however, seems to allow the connection.
I connected a few times.
I used pptp.sfo.witopia.net. as the VPN server
That seemed to let me connect a few times;
and according to hide-my-ip.com I had an L.A. IP
But now, when I try to connect, I'm getting an error message that reads:
"Server hung up. User name or password incorrect. Try again?"
But I didn’t do or change anything. I just tried to connect as usual.
I've tried
restarting the phone.
waiting a while.
Connecting with the computer (connects without a problem)
I tried connecting to the different VPN servers.
I also tried connecting changing the VPN server from URL to an IP address,
but that just tells me "Unable to connect to network. Try again?"
I am at a loss...
I have tried at home, on my wifi account...
The same one that my computer is on, but no dice.
The VPN service provider is also at a loss.
They said "...iPhones connect all day..." (talk about a kick in the teeth)
They asked me if I wanted to cancel my account and request a refund.
Nice.
Thanks for the replies.
This forums are always so helpful.
No, that's okay, don't get up. I'll get that.
A two part work around I found was:
PART I
Sharing the VPN Connection Over WiFi by Converting my Laptop into WiFi VPN Router. An article by BESTVPNSERVICE.COM
Using a Windows 7 machine with a Wi-Fi NIC
1) Click on your computers start button and in the search box type “cmd” and wait for it to appear on the menu.
2) After it appears, right click on it and select “Run As Administrator”.
3) When the Black Command Prompt Opens up, type the following command and press enter
4) netsh wlan show drivers
5) You will see something like the following image. If the ‘Hosted Network Supported’ (in the red square) say ‘Yes’, it means the driver is installed and if it says ‘No’, download the drivers.
6) Once it is made sure that you have the required driver, it’s time to set it up.
7) Type netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=test key=password. Following Screen would appear. (Devices will detect network SSID as “test” change it to anything you want. Moreover, ‘key’ is your password which in this case is ‘password’, change it to whatever you want, I would suggest you to not to use numbers in password)
8 ) Then type, netsh wlan start hostednetwork. You will see the messages illustrated in the snap shot.
9) If you see the message that the ‘hosted network couldn’t be started’, then your WiFi driver is outdated, the best way to update the WiFi driver is Run you Windows Update or download the latest version from its official website.
10) Now that we have setup hosted network, we will make sure that it is shared on public Wi-Fi.
11) To do this, click on your Wi-Fi signal buttons on the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
12) Click on ‘Open Network and Sharing Center’.
13) Then click on Change adapter settings.
14) Click on the Connection that has description of ‘Your Created VPN Connection’ and right click on the Icon to go to its properties.
15) In Properties, go to ‘Sharing’ tab and check on ‘Allow Other Network User to connect through this computer…’
16) From the drop down menu of ‘Home Networking Connection’, Select the connection which had a description of ‘Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter’/’Virtula AP’ or it can be ‘Wireless Network Connection 2’ as in my case.
17) Check on the ‘Allow other network users to control or disable….’ Option as well.
18) Click ok and you are all set to go now.
19) Connect your VPN and ask your Friends or Colleague to discover your VPN enabled WiFi Connection.
20) Now, whenever you will restart your computer, your Shared WiFi connection will be disabled. You will have to reenter only the following command in the command prompt to enable it again.
netsh wlan start hostednetwork (or create a custom batch file for this, if you want to avoid reentering the command every time).
PART II
If the wi-fi direct on your phone isn't discovering your freshly created network,
you may need enable Ad Hoc connections for it.
For that I looked at an article here; but instead of Root Explorer is simply used ES Explorer:
Download this version of wpa_supplicant
Like I said, I used "ES Explorer"
• use "ES Explorer" to mount /system/bin/ and make a backup of wpa_supplicant
• rename the current one to wpa_supplicant.bak and copy the new wpa_supplicant to /system/bin
• then we need to adjust the permissions on the file to:
ticked - All options in the read and execute columns; and write column owner row
unticked - write column & group row; write column & others row.
• change /system/bin back to read only
• disable and re-enable wireless
• now your adhoc wireless network should be listed with the other wireless networks and you can connect.
After this two maneuvers, I was able to connect my phone to my laptop using my laptop's internet access and thus connecting to the VPN.
I find that the order of network activation matters.
What I mean is:
First connect to the internet (router, modem, or however that may be)
Then connect to the VPN
And then activate and connect to the hostednetwork.
I hope this helps someone, despite the fact that you have to be within wifi range of your windows machine. It's not quite the same as being on the streets and connecting to your VPN -but Android can't [consistently and reliably] connect to VPNs. And since no one replied to me here it stands to reason that no one knows how to get Android to connect to commercial VPN services (not even WiTopia's tech support).
Firt, Great site very helpfull. Sorry my english.
I need to change my wifi mac adress on my huawei u8180 with ROM CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC0 U8160 (thx is great).
I have try to change/modify nvram.txt but no good
Also try with softwares :
- com.jiaofamily.android.mac: change mac for huawei (it´s old). it can read the mac but can´t change it (unsuported device)
-Set MAC adress : cant read mac adress
both don´t ask root right.
Any idea?
You can spoof your MAC using busybox
For instance:
http://blog.thecodecracker.com/hacks/spoof-mac-address-in-android/
First, you need Busybox and Terminal Emulator installed. And you need root.
After you have that, open up Terminal Emulator and give it superuser permissions by typing
"su" (without quotes)
and press enter. You should be asked if you want to allow it to have superuser access. Press allow
Next, type in
"busybox ifconfig". (make sure your wifi is on first). Look for either eth0 or wlan0. Whichever one is on the list is your wifi device. Keep that in mind.
Next, type in
"busybox ifconfig wlan0(or eth0) hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"
with the xx's being your MAC address you want to change it to.
Now, this is the important part!
It WILL NOT change your MAC address properly if your wifi is not off first! You must have it off, and then turn it on (through the status bar toggle) and then quickly hit enter! If it says no such device found you must press Volume Up+W to automatically reenter your last command and press enter again until it does not say no such device found.
I find it works best when I do Volume up+W and then hit enter multiple times.
To check if your MAC address has been changed, go to your wifi settings, click the menu key and select advanced. Your current MAC address will be under the MAC address section.
Good luck!

You can also do this without having to use Terminal Emulator by using the adb.
With your device properly setup for development on your pc just type adb shell in your terminal on your pc and then you can enter your busybox commands. This still does require that your root and have busybox installed!
thx

I have done that and it work ...Thx. to all off course, but now I have an another question :
How can I make the wifi shutdown and start on the terminal?
My idea, it´s to make:
wifi off
wifi on
busybox ifconfig wlan0(or eth0) hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Any adeia?
trouble
Hi,
it changes my MAC, however I can’t connect to any wifi network! It always say that the password is bad, or in open networks, it hangs on retriving ip address.
But if I use:
busybox ip link set wlan0(or eth0) address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
It work at the first time or second.
Insted of turn the wifi off and on and quickly run the command.
I use the terminal with su:
svc wifi disable
svc wifi on
(need to wait 0.5s to proced)
busybox ip link set wlan0(or eth0) address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
and its done .
it will be great if an app developer can make an app to run this command automatically when we want to connect to wifi. it will make the mac address not permanent but almost.

You must have rooted device and busybox installed. First switch to su and type commands.
I have tried this it actually changed my mac address. I can able to connect open network and verify that. but when I'm trying to wps2 password protected network it gave authentication error "incorrect password" but i know the password I'm using is correct.
Hi guys so I got the ATT version of LG V10 and I unlocked it. after put in my T mobile simcard everything works fine except for I wasnt able to get mobile data. So i set up a new APN and now mobile data is working fine with 4g Lte. However, when i tried to turn on my mobile hotspot, I kept getting this error.
Authentication was unsuccessful.
There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the Mobile Hotspot function. Please retry later.
I tried messing with the set ups and restarting and about all the things i can think of but still cant fix the error. if somebody know how to fix this please help me.
Thank you very much

Hello, I was just wondering if you ever found a solution to this problem? I am thinking about unlocking my AT&T LG V10 and switching it over to T-Mobile but I would hate not being able to use the phone as a mobile hotspot on T-Mobile.
Please let me know if you found a solution, thank you.
Possible solution
In case anyone is interested, I found that the following helped my laptop to connect to my mobile hotspot and have interent access.
1. Download Settings Database Editor from Google Play
2. Scroll down to find "tether_entitlement_check_state" under the System Table and set it to "0" without the quotations.
3. Then you will need to download adb onto your computer. This tutorial is helpful: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141817
3. Once you install adb onto your computer you will want to follow the steps about opening the cmd function as administrator and type "adb devices" in lowercase and no quotations so that your computer can find your device. If it cannot find the device then you will need to download the necessary drivers to your computer. This can be found at the lg main website. I just downloaded all of them.
4. Once it can find your device then type in adb shell. However, if it cannot find your device you may need to switch some things up like under Tethering in your phone, turn on the USB tethering. Type the command adb device once more. This should allow your computer to find it and authorize it.
5. Once device is found and authorized type in adb shell. Once that commands registers, then type in the following: "pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS" without quotations.
6. Now you should be able to go back to the Settings Database Editor app, change to global table and scroll down to find "tether_dun_required" and set that to 0. (You may find it helpful to also add these prompts in the adb command prompt as well by typing "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" without quotes after the adb shell command)
7. Now your laptop should be able to connect to your mobile hotspot (once it's set up and turned on your lg v10) If it still doesn't have internet access even though it's connected then you need to follow the steps from this website: https://www.digitalreborn.com/fix-android-wifi-tethering-dns-responding/
Yay! Success it should all work. Note I did not find the DNS Changer described in the above link. I just went to google play and typed in DNS Charger and picked the one that popped up first and followed the instructions, turned on my VPN and once it was set up and connected I had internet access on my laptop through my mobile hotspot! However, you will need to go through all these settings again if either phone or laptop restarts. I haven't figured out how to make phone and laptop to keep these changes. Hope this helps someone because it took me forever to figure this out. Shalom.

This worked for me, but I have a couple clarifications to add.
First, in case it wasn't clear, this does NOT require root to work. But after restarting the phone and/or uninstalling Settings Database Editor these steps need to be repeated again and again. Not that big a deal if u don't restart your phone often but still a pain in the neck. For me it's still preferable over rooting and installing a custom rom though so I'm very appreciative for this solution.
Also, finding the LG v10 adb drivers was the most time consuming part of the process. I found working ones here
Drivers also attached in case link goes dead
I want to change my MAC Address.. Device redmi note 4 (Snapdragon) has rooted + supersu + twrp + busybox.
i tried many methods with miui roms and LOS/AOSP custom roms.. nothing works.
I tried a app "change my mac" which one working awsm with other devices. But when i trying to change MAC im getting reboot. And after rebnot nothing changed.
Even i found MAC Address path after many research and trying to change manually but no luck..
here is path
/sys/devices/soc/a000000.qcom,wcnss-wlan/wcnss_mac_addr
But, when i try to save after edit MAC, sometimes it saves but file automatically gets to his default Mac and sometimes its getting reboot, (same like "change my mac app")
There is another app called "WiFi Mac changer" by Osama abukmail which changes Mac address successfully but it is not changing Mac from "wcnss_mac_addr" so when try connect to wifi after changing my Mac from this app its says "" network selection disabled authentication rejection""
Anyone plz help me
I have been searching for a while to find a way to connect from Windows 7 Network to android shared folders. I had no success. Can anyone help?

Thank you for your reply. But, as I said, what I want is that android shared folders be accessible in Windows Network.

This app does not need Chrome or any other browser indeed. It works with Network (in Windows Explorer window).
But a problem still remains which I am going to ask you. The problem is that when I click on the device name (ANDROID) in Network, a message pops up and says that "...cannot access \\ANDROID". I am forced to open Run in Windows and type the IP of the device and hit enter. This way the IP appears in Network and I can access the device shared folder. Why clicking on ANDROID does not work?
