Just ordered "MyGica A681 USB ATSC HDTV Tuner" and a "DuaFire Amplified Digital HDTV Antenna" from Amazon. According to Google's support side you simply "connect a USB tuner to your Android TV device." src- support.google.com/androidtv/answer/6285282?hl=en
Will report back on functionality.
Please do, this would be pretty amazing.
NO go
Didnt work, and I suspected it wouldn't from the start considering how unknown the brand of TV tuner I bought. Even when I hooked it up to my Win 8 machine it wouldn't work, thinking I could use a DVB server. HDHomerun here I come.

I can confirm this device DOES WORK on NP, however only app to work with it is PadTv HD or
hookup to pc as backend and using kodi pvr * if going kodi route live Tv is useless on wireless due to low download speeds, have not tested via wired
Just thinking out loud here,
These two tuners are specifically built for android:
D-Link DSM-T100 + App
pctv AndoroiDTV + App
Theres lots out there, as long as they say they support android i reckon its just a matter of grabbing the APK and sideloading it
Looks like you can hook them into a home antenna with a simple adapter.
Neither specifically state they support the nexus player, but they do support all the nexus phones and some tv's
really i am guessing whatever drivers they require are built into an app for them.
So really it would just be a matter of these app developers to support live channels and this would be a far cheaper option over something like a HDhomerun
I just use my Tablo 4 tuner box connected to my OTA antenna on the roof, works great. Live TV, guide and everything, and works perfectly on the Nexus Player. Kind of pricey, but more functional than just the HDHomerun boxes (which I've had several of over the years, they make great hardware). The Tablo boxes are a full OTA dvr, just add an external hard drive to it and go.
is there still support for this?
Here androidtv.news/2016/10/live-channels-updated-supports-usb-tuners-adds-dvr-capabilities/ says that now ATSC USB TV tuners are supported (TV signal for USA), at least 3 tested.
Anyone tried DVB usb tuner (europe)???????????

I've just tried the official Xbox one digital TV tuner and it wasn't detected. I'm not surprised but even Google couldn't give me a list of compatible USB tuners.
Does anyone know a custom kernel which includes the drivers for this?
Disclaimer: I received this box free as part of a beelink beta-test group. I am not a professional reviewer so please take this review as more from an average user perspective.
On tearing open the package, I have to say the premium feel of this box is outstanding and on a level above any other Android TV box I’ve received in this price range. The sleek black box with the silver lettering definitely screams classy premium.

Unboxing:
[see pics at end]
Initial Setup/Performance:
Included in the box is the main device itself, a “high speed” HDMI cable, power adapter and remote which carries 2xAAA batteries (batteries not included).
The top of the device carries a classy beelink logo with a glossy finish helping this box stand out. The right side of the device is blank and I wish there was an additional USB port here. The back houses the main ports: Power, 1xUSB, HDMI, GB Ethernet and SPDIF. On the left side of the box is a 1xUSB port and a microSD card slot. Beelink states the microSD slot supports up to 32GB cards but I was able to read/write to my 64GB PNY card with no problems. On the bottom there are four subtle feet to help stop the device from sliding around.
Powering up the device you will find 1 ‘soft’ white LED status indicator on the front. Thankfully it’s not super bright and shouldn’t keep you up at night.
Boot time - first boot 23.7 seconds
Reboot from home screen - 34.06 seconds
The beelink launcher is one of the best Android TVBox launchers out there. It’s simple, uncluttered with big bright unmistakable icons and most of all it works great with the remote or a mouse.
Bluetooth is also natively supported on the box (you won’t need an external dongle) and I successfully connected my bluetooth speakers and headset for use.
There is no bloatware on this box. None at all. Kudos to beelink for this as some manufacturers preload too much unnecessary software on these boxes. Of the 16GB storage about 10GB is available to the user to install apps or store your media files. Here’s a list of what’s installed by default: App4TV, AppInstaller, Browser, FileBrowser, Fishing Joy, Gallery, Kodi, KodiMate, Media Center, MoviePlayer, Music, Play Store, PPOE, Settings, Update&Backup.
Additional apps I’ve installed:
MXPlayer - plays pretty much everything you can throw at it.
CrossyRoad - game response is better than expected even with the slow remote
Riptide GP - gameplay was good even with the slow remote
Youtube for AndroidTV.
Antutu Benchmark - direct through Play Store
Geekbench 4 - direct through Play Store
Youtube installed via play store does not have the native Android TV resolution or controls and is extremely hard to navigate without a mouse. You will have a better experience if you manually install Youtube for Android TV. Max resolution available 1080p60.
Download Youtube for Android TV (current version 1.3.11) from APKMirror here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube-for-android-tv/
The included remote is very basic, is lighter than their previous controls and does not match the premium feel of the box. It’s functional but somewhat slow.
Wifi Connectivity:
The S912 device successfully found and connected to both my 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Also picked up a few of my neighbors
The following results are from the SpeedTest.net app from the Play Store:
My home internet speed 250 Mbps Down / 50 Mbps Up
Router 3 feet away
2.4GHz - 30.91 Mbps Down / 38.18 Mbps Up
5GHz - 107.88 Mbps Down / 48.86 Mbps Up
Router 13 feet away with 1 wall between
2.4GHz - 2.94 Mbps Down / 26.50 Mbps Up
5 GHz - 16.58 Mbps Down / 15.52 Mbps Up
The 5GHz band is clearly superior so I’d recommend using this if you can.
Benchmarks:
I’m not a big fan of software benchmarks so I won’t go into any details here as there are plenty of other reviews listing them. However here are the scores:
Antutu scored - 41407
Geekbench 4 score - 585 Single-Core / 2418 Multi-Core
Video Playback:
Majority of videos play smooth with no issues including 4K. Streaming via Kodi was smooth and error free on those add-ons we all love to use that I won’t mention. Playback was fast from both attached USB drives and the microSD card. Pausing and seeking (forward and back) provided no challenges.
I have experienced some video stutters and audio is out of sync with some 4K files but this will need further testing. Not sure if this is user error or a limitation of this particular chip as has been mentioned of boxes from other manufacturers carrying the S912 chip. However, this shouldn’t be a problem for the average user whose main goal is to stream general content via Kodi, Hulu, Netflix and 1080p Youtube.
Video Test Files:
BigBuck Bunny
4K Samples from: http://4ksamples.com/
Linaro Sample Media: http://samplemedia.linaro.org/
Google Widevine - Supported
Apps like Netflix need Widevine Level 1 DRM to be able to stream in a resolution above SD.
Missing Features / Issues:
Button on remote to open multitasking like on the Zidoo boxes.
Remote not as responsive as the MiniMX III remote. Clicks sometimes don’t register or register as double. Hopefully this can be fixed in a software update.
Does not come pre-rooted. Hopefully root can come as part of an OTA update.
HDMI CEC - starts the box when you turn on your TV. Would be a nice feature to have.
Overall:
From my limited time with this device I am highly satisfied with this box specs vs performance. If you enjoyed the beelink MiniMX III then you will enjoy the upgrade this box provides. This is another great offering from beelink and I doubt you will find another Android TV box with this spec/performance for this price. I would definitely recommend this to my customers.

Can you check if its possible to send picture to a miracast enabled TV?
i have 3 issues with this GT1 box.
1) Plugging 1TB hard drive while the box is on will cause the screen goes blank. Nothing can be done except turn off and on the power plug to reboot it.
2) Random green screen flickering. Change to other HDMI cable and change display setting still not solve the issue.
3) Picture quality a little bit darker compare to my other android box. Can notice when I watch movie with a lot dark scene.

I want to know if it has the option. I think it would be more settings, display, cast screen then enable "enable wireless display" option
I have same issues. Green screen flickering, maybe caused by automatic brightness option or by Rendering Section, maybe option "Turn off hardware overlays" hardware overlays", will force the device to always use GPU for screen compositing.
I read this somewhere....

Hello,
I'd like to use it to share my external harddisk with Samba, have you tested the speed transfert between a computer and an external device connected?
Got a RPI2+ but the transfert is maximum 11MB/S due to 100mbits chip.

Hevc 10-bit
My problem is with hevc 10-bit videos. While in some video reviews I watched over the Internet everything worked perfectly, when I tried it didn't go very well. While with h264 and h265 video files everything is ok in kodi, there is no way to play h265 10bit videos(with kodi). Green flickering all over the screen, absolutely unwatchable. Also tried to play h265 10bit video files with mx player and default media player and everything was working smooth with hw decoding. Absolutely no idea why kodi can't play h265 10bit files. Any idea?
Plex app for android same result when using direct play. Green flickering. Interesting that when I use external player for plex (mx player, default video player) no flickering at all
If you're planning on using any live tv/live channels or streaming on kodi with this box, it will NOT work.
A lot of us are having issues with anything live on Kodi. Meanwhile, 1080p Youtube, 4k media files, kodi with pre-recorded programs all play fine, very smooth and without issue, and so it isn't a network problem.
But load up Kodi and open any addon with any live tv/channel streaming (Exodus, cCloudTV, Phoenix) and all you get is working audio with very choppy/lagging video that changes one frame every 3-5 seconds. Other standalone streaming apps work without problem. The problem is just Kodi but Kodi is far too important and I might have to return this drive if there's no fix.
Many people are complaining on the company site and Beelink is just ignoring them. Avoid this box if you are planning on using Kodi streaming.

Same thing with my box. Very disappointed.
Beelink forum has a thread about this, and they said change kodi system set may solve this problem.

It is terrible. Everyone buys this box for kodi and it does not even work properly. They not only ignore the problem in their website forum but they have intentionally deleted posts about this problem.
I managed to get it fixed today after many factory resets and using the pre-installed kodi. So it looks like Kodi doesn't work on the Beelink GT1 box if you remove/uninstall the one that comes already included with the Beelink and attempt to use a brand new Kodi from the Play Store or Kodi website. I do not like this as I prefer a clean fresh kodi install and you can never know what they might have put in the already installed kodi.

Yes, that is what appears to happen.
You said you already ordered it, right?
When the box comes, before you do anything, try using the preinstalled kodi and see if it streams properly and good. If it works, that is great. Then try erasing Kodi and installing a fresh new one from the Play Store and try streaming with that one. If you see any problems, just do a quick system factory reset and use the preinstalled kodi.
This is what I ended up doing now

Which video files are you trying? Any chance you can give me the names or provide a download link and I'll test. Also have you tried SPMC instead of Kodi? The guy behind SPMC was the main Android Dev for Kodi but he left the group a few months back.

Honestly since Koying stopped developing the main Kodi app I've been using his fork SPMC, With SPMC I don't have any issue with Live TV/Channel streaming. cCloud, Clu IPTV, UKTurks all work ok. Phoenix has always been hit or miss for me so I hardly ever use it. I expect this is a problem with Kodi which the Android devs have yet to fix since it works OK in SPMC which is a fork of Kodi.

Until they fix the Kodi app you can give SPMC a try. It works great and is in active development.

Like I mentioned above, this could be a problem for the Kodi devs to fix not Beelink. I could be wrong, however the fact that SPMC (the Kodi fork) works great for live streaming, is still actively developed by the guy that was the main Android dev for the Kodi team, speaks volumes.
Also the Kodi that comes pre-installed on the box is the same from the PlayStore, check the signature on the apk.
(You can safely replace Roku, Xbox or other similar streaming devices for Amazon FireTV in below discussion, without affecting the results.)
Here is a familiar situation...
MiBox MDZ-16-AB gives Netflix Tvq-pm100 5.2.5 Error.
replace Mibox with Amazon FireTV box, play same Netflix video, on same TV, without error.
Naive conclusion...........MiBox fails to work with Netflix, MiBox is defective......
Proper conclusion requires adding info to a snap judgement.
Netflix REQUIRES proper DRM to enable HD streams, including the connected TV.
With MiBox, Netflix enforces a 'make or break' philosophy. Either DRM chain is complete or you get error message.
Netflix dictates this behavior.
With Amazon FireTV devices, Netflix allows two possible outcomes:
1-DRM is verified........
Netflix streams at HD resolution.
2-DRM is compromised...........
(usually by a tv that doesn't meet Netflix's DRM requirements)
Netflix streams at SD resolution, but it works, to a degree
Trying to imply existence of valid DRM by simply stating it works with Amazon device represents flawed logic.
DRM is crucial to getting HD streams with EVERY setup. DRM is not needed for only SD streams.
Netflix charges a premium for HD subscriptions.
You can use Netflix created "TEST PATTERNS" video #8 to get an accurate reading of current video resolution.
Conclusion:
99.5 instances of MiBox MDZ-16-AB failing to work with Netflix is due to using a TV that lacks proper DRM to support Netflix's requirements.

As far as I can tell Netflix's DRM checks are complete voodoo. On my TV downstairs with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, I can play Netflix 4K UHD just fine with my Mi Box. In my office, I have HDMI 1.4 4K screens, so I use an HDCP stripper with the same Mi Box. DRM Info (Play Store) shows HDCP enabled at 2.2 level, Widevine DRM supported, Microsoft PlayReady supported, etc. But Netflix is limited to HD 1080p only.
At this point I just wish there'd be a Magisk module that spoofs all DRM-related functionality to being enabled and verified, and I wouldn't even need the HDCP stripper.

Please name names of your TVs.
Is your other TV a Haier brand or Sylvania or CTL? In my extensive investigation there are certain tv sets whose DRM responses vacillate according to the phases of the moon or change from acceptable to none depending on which hand you used to power on from the remote. Absolutely no rhyme or reason for some screwy tvs.
I imagine you use the HDMI stripper to overcome the fact that DRMINFO and MiBox failed with Netflix. What does the factory spec say about DRM capabilities of your TV? Is there a firmware update available for your TV?
As to the hdmi stripper, these are notorious for being temperamental. Stripper makers are even more clueless and inconsistent when it comes to properly implementing DRM that TV makers are.
Shame, since DRM/HDCP has been an established standard since 2008!!!
Lastly, is there ANY inkling this problem is associated with your MiBox?
Nice idea for the Magisk folks but seems an overwhelming task. Hard to replicate the hardware functions employed by the stripper into software code.
Thanks for your meaningful reply.
The TV is an LG UF640V, and 4K worked immediately after updating the Mi Box to 6.0.1, updating Netflix in the Play Store and rebooting. Nothing else was needed.
My desktop monitor only supports HDMI 1.4 and HDCP 1.1, which is correctly reflected in DRM Info when I connect it directly to the Mi Box. It shows max HDCP version 1.x and active HDCP 1.x. So when I connect through the HDCP stripper it shows HDCP 2.2, and I would expect the 4K option to appear in Netflix, but it doesn't. The HDCP stripper is a Voxlink 4K 3x1 HDMI 2.0 switch from AliExpress.
I doubt the Mi Box itself or its firmware is at fault here, it just looks like something in the HDMI output configuration/handshake is tripping up Widevine and/or Netflix's DRM checks.

Netflix would love to send 4K streams to any device that will support them. Its likely Netflix itself has found your monltor's HDMI port unable to support needed data throughput. Netflix is the sole determinant in measuring throughput. It is, at times, at odds with the suggestions reported by drminfo.
I have seen many similar instances of this behavior in various wireshark captures. Netflix is very nosey about evaluating every step from their servers to the ultimate screen.
Thanks for your detailed response.
I actually discovered the real problem: Netflix refuses to do 4K at 24Hz. It will only do it at 60Hz. With or without HDCP stripper makes no difference. Tested on my UF640V: [email protected] -> 4K UHD, [email protected] -> HD only.
People are actually pissed about it because it causes motion judder (duh): SHIELD TV forums - Experience 6 means I can no longer watch Netflix in 4K/24

Was using a USB C to HDMI wired mirror screening dongle with LG V20 earlier without any issue but even though Poco F1 plays USB DAC and other storage devices normally mirroring doesn't work at all. I've read a couple of threads on here and one on Mi forums where people have found the same. I'm hoping it will be added in a software update. Meanwhile it casts to Chromecast natively (not what you're asking for, but something)

Yeah looks like one of those things that Xiaomi thinks doesn't matter to include. Also, I see 'wireless display' in settings on Poco but doesn't mention what kind. So my extended question is does it support Miracast/DLNA?

The "wireless display" function initiates Chromecast screen cast. It might do Miracast as well but I don't have a dongle to test
Found that OP5 has same issue and they found a solution https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/wired-tv-one-plus-5-makes-displaylink-t3667974 though it's more expensive than a Chromecast/Miracast. I miss my LG now.

I have last MIUI 10.3.8.0 and I have problems with screen mirroring. Previous MIUI I used to connect my phone to my Samsung TV and it worked as a charm. Yesterday i tried to connect again, but i didn't manage to connect. Have anyone the same problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Did u find a solution bro? I'm facing same issue.
Yes, I did hard reset and all is OK now.
Hi you all probably figured this out already but it seems that screen mirroring native miracast is broken on most recent xiaomi phone models since they were updated. I have a Redmi Note 5 (Whyred), a mi max 2 and a mi max 3. Only the Max 2 works normally. The other models can cast using apps that cast like Prime Video, VLC etc but can't simply mirror whatever is on the screen. The Miui forums are full of such reports. No response from Xiaomi and no viable workaround. I was already reluctant to upgrade because Id been waiting for MHL hardwired video out to be implemented and it never was (Id pay a premium fot a xiaomi phone that had it). I saw a couple of XDA threads where folks got mirroring to work via custom roms and my phone is rooted but I am uncertain which rom might accomplish this fix for my particular model.
These are my last Xiaomi phones unless I see something official from them about a solution for this known problem. Mirroring is anessential for me not just for entertainment but for work.
Hi I finally solved the problem of screen cast
first (turn on Bluetooth and WiFi )
Then enable the Screen mirroring on the TV
Then connect the WiFi to the TV
Enable Screen cast on phone and search and connect to TV

The "wireless display" function initiates Chromecast screen cast. It might do Miracast as well but I don't have a dongle to test

Poco X3 is not able to Cast screen by using Wireless Display or Google Home App with Google Chromecast. Need solution.
I don't know whether this might help anyone else but I had disabled miconnect package on my Xiaomi devices. when I re-enabled miconnect service and uniplay service, Chromecast started working again (I am not sure why miconnect should matter ... it isn't supposed to be related to non xiaomi devices, but it is something else to try if you disabled it too).
I have slow DSL with buffer issues so I prefer to download shows for offline viewing. I sideloaded the phone/tablet prime video apk and aside from graphical glitches (no rewind/forward/subs controls) downloads are only in SD - even after selecting "Best" download quality which downloads HD on my other android devices.
Is there a workaround? Or another android tv box which Amazon officially supports for HD downloads?
I installed DRM Info and it all checks out. The device is Widevine L1 certified & connected via HDCP 2.2.
It seems Amazon simply does not acknowledge TV boxes! (when it comes to offline viewing)
To answer my own question, Android TV as an OS is not & never will be suitable for any kind of show downloads!
From experimenting with the non-HD download support in sideloaded TV apps, Android TV is very susceptible to data corruption as it lacks a shutdown procedure.
It is designed to be abruptly turned off at the mains along with the TV (for example, it is an integrated into many Sony TVs).
Thus it is nothing more than a streaming OS and offers nothing extra when connected to already smart TVs.
I feel "Android TV" is false advertising. It is far more minimal and less capable than Android phones & tablets with many features, app permissions, settings screens missing. Also it has no notification area at all.
Thus many sideloaded apps are uninstallable or unusable.
They should go back to calling it Google TV to remove the associations & expectations of an Android device!
