Charging Issue :( - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello guys! I am using a Redmi Note 3 with stock kernel and NOS 8.1 ROM. My phone is not charging with most of the cables/chargers. Only a select few cables work. The stock Mi cable, Aukey and even expensive cables don't work. Only the chargers(non USB one) are working and it connects and disconnects immediately.
Kindly help me to fix this issue. The issue is really annoying

I am also facing same issue charger connects and disconnects immediately. Even when charging the phone in off mode it connects and disconnects. Tried several chargers and cables, all are showing same problem. I remember last time i installed a custom kernel after that this problem started. Hope to get some help

I am facing the same issue with the stock kernel itself

Your charging port is damaged. Like mine. Replacing it is the only solution

Yeah, I faced the same issue, there were some connection issues when I connected my phone to charger or computer. I soldered new usb port, but I recommend replacing the entire charging board, it's cheap and easy.

USB cable connection not working!

Hello, i am new to xda-developers, so please have patience with me
I was using my original usb cable to charge my phone from my laptop. But one day some strange things started to happen, when my phone's battery was completely depleted i connected the usb and phone started turning on and off very often and I wasn't able to charge it even a bit. When connected to wall socket charger everything seems to be fine, it's charging.
But now the usb is not working, neither computer sees it (before i used it), i used other cables, no good. Now it's original ginderbread ROM, maybe i should reinstall it, but i can't do anything since usb is not working in any way.
Maybe someone of you had similar problems and know how to solve it?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply!
I tried cleaning it with Tooth Brush and even used special liquid for cleaning electronics contacts and corrosion removal, everything seems to be clean. But still nothing happens when connecting to laptop.
P.S. Same cable is working when charging from wall socket charger, so it seems the contacts must be clean and intact (at least power supply contacts), so maybe it should charge from laptop?
P.S.S. I forgot to mention, when the phone's battery is depleted, when i connect to laptop, it doesn't charge but in time phone becomes hot. So maybe this would prove it's a hardware problem?
Try different laptop USB port. If this doesnt help than probably your data cable is faulty. Just replace it with another one.
I think Your phone is fully operational if AC charging without any problems.

I have already tried different laptop ports, even different laptops, already tried with different cables (which all functioning properly with other devices and all are marked U2). I am pretty sure that's not connection / cable problem.

Cannot charge with Wall Charger, only USB works

Hi everyone. I own a GS3 that has been running flawlessly for about 3 weeks but since last 2 days it has developed a problem whereby it only charges via the laptop USB port and not the wall charger. I have tried factory reset, flashed two different custom ROMs based on two different firmwares, pulled battery many times, etc etc, to no avail.
the phone starts charging from wall charger, but after a few minutes, charging stops. I have used the original Samsung charger, my old HTC charger, with a combination of many different USB cables and the result is always the same. The USB port appears to be undamaged
ny suggestion to fix the problem?
Android 4.0.4
I9300BWLH1
Kernel SIYAH S3 V1.5.2
Check your usb port of the s3 maybe its damaged.

Without paying someone to open it up and look into it, process of elimination will help.
blow lightly into the port to remove any dust
Try a different plug in your house
Try your neighbours outlets
Try with a different charger
Try with a different charger cable
worst case, a dab of WD40 shouldn't hurt (should help if any contaminants or rust has accumulated, preventing proper contact)
If your experiencing any major heating on the back plate while charging from the wall then the issue is most likely a bad charging mechanism. I had similar issues with my S2.
I had the same problem, as with many other people. See here if anything helps.

(Even mods got frustrated saying it was a solved issue. Clearly it's still unsolved.)
For me the problem disappeared on its own.. All that changed was I started using a Belkin surge protector.. didn't help initially but then it started charging after a few days..
My guess is it's a software bug.. or some sort of a caching issue..
Btw I'm using latest XXLH1 unrooted.

[Q] Strange charging problem

About a month ago this charging problem started overnight. Using the original wall charger and USB cable, current_max in GCC was about 200mA (instead of 1000mA). Somebody suggested a factory reset, which I did (restored apps and settings with TB). Problem still exists and is getting worse. Till now I was able to unplug and replug the charger a few times to bring it up to 1000mA, but now the current randomly goes down during the charge (esp if I use the phone).
The only thing I haven't tried is replacing the charger or cable, but I don't have another one. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yes, used Galaxy Charging Current.

I think it's down to a damaged usb port on the phone. I have pretty much the same thing on my phone since the cable was yanked out of it whilst charging a few months ago. I have several chargers and some are better than others...depending on the cable. I also have issues with connecting to my pc....I have to not touch it otherwise it just disconnects.

But I have no other problem using the USB port apart from this? Is there anyway I can check it? Or shall I just wipe the phone and send it to be replaced?

Charging connects/disconnects BUT...

Hello,
yesterday I tried to connect phone to PC and the phone kept on disconnecting and connecting. The interval seem to be random between 1-30s but most often it's 1-5s . Also tried charging but there was the same problem.
I have lineageOS.
Tried:
Other cables - tried 4, all lead to the same result
Moving the micro USB cable gently up, down, left, right, it had absolutely no impact
Taking dust out of micro usb - no change
I am able to charge, but it takes longer time due to connecting and disconnecting.

What charger are you using? And what charger did you mosltly use all the time? Is it a fast charger or a slow charger?
I was using standard charger that came with the phone, but when this malfunction started I switched to the 3.0 charger to charge a bit faster.

Same thing happened to me about two weeks ago. It fixed itself automatically after I wiped data and reinstalled the ROM. The connection disconnection problem was still there but the frequency was reduced and after about a couple of hours it started working normally. I am not sure what causes the problem.
PS: I was using stock charger all the time and was on stock LineageOS kernel.

I think that you should go back to the stock charger, beacuse I had tried to a 3.0 fast charger (that was for motorola) and it started soon to show those issues.
If you're not using francisco franco's kernel, you shouldn't ever surpass a charging rate of 2000 mAh. It's extremely bad for kenzo hardware.
My Redmi mobile was repaired by mobile repair center. They did same thing in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=KB0dcTqn4rQ
Its been 6 month now, there is no problem in charging. I think mi using low quality charging port.
I have solved this problem
Turn on USB debugging from developer mode then put your phone on charging for 1 full night in switched off mode ...
It will charge normally

In addition to this charging connect/disconnect issue, the USB OTG was not getting detected on my Redmi Note 4, replacing the bottom PCB fixed these 2 issues. Costed Rs. 350 (around 5 USD).

Redmi Note 3 kenzo charger connects/disconnects continually

Redmi Note 3 kenzo charger connects/disconnects continually.
Device charges but the charger just connects and disconnects continually.
I never used any fast charger.
This problem first occurred 3/4 months ago when I was in NOS, somehow I charged my device enough to flash MIUI global stable and the problem was gone, today this problem started again. I'm still on the MIUI global stable. I don't know why it suddenly started and why it was gone when I flashed MIUI. Please help.
I tried changing the cable, adapter, socket but it keeps happening.
One thing, this problem occurred first when I was playing a lot PUBG Mobile and charging my device the whole day, after that problem I stopped playing and everything was fine until recently I started playing again. I don't know is it related or not but I want to fix my device.
Sorry for my bad English.
Change the cord if the problem persists is probably the USB board.

It can be the problem of the usb cable or the power brick check with others! If still the problem exists then there is some problem either in the port or the charging board.
