you cannot unless your phone is s-off...
Ninji is correct.
You need to S-Off then reflash RUU to obtain the "Locked" Status.
I unlocked my phone, rooted and installed custom Rom e.g. elegancia's ROM. Now I want to relock, when I use fastboot oem lock to relock it after flashing stock recovery or leaving custom recovery. In both cases my phone does not go beyond boot loader, if i reboot it remains on boot loader does go and boot ahead, till I unlock it again using Unlock_code.bin from HTC dev. And unlocking wipes off all the settings and applications as expected.
So how can I relock the phone but it boots normally.
I previously had HTC Legend, I rooted and installed cyanogenmod and then relocked as well but it works fine. What I am doing wrong with my Desire X?

i need help becose my phone cannot root
This is a perfectly rootable device. Head over to htcdev and unlock the boot loader first. And do a backup before you do that
can any one help please.
i bricked my phone but did the ruu after relocking the bootloader. Now it says relocked in the fastboot mode.
i tried google to look for answers but could not find any.
by the way i have s-off which i guess is a problem.
so could anyone tell the way around it to reunlock the bootloader so i can root and install updated roms .
thanks in advance.

The method is the same for S-OFF as S-ON. Since, you are S-OFF you can use the Guru Bootloader Reset tool in TWRP after you unlock it the HTCDev method.
You do not have to relock your bootloader to run RUU or firmware when you are S-OFF.
Hi I basically want to trade in my HTC desire 610 (EU addition) at CEX.
It is currently S-ON, deodexed & modified stock rom with JMZ kernel.
I want to be able to unroot and relock bootloader without signs of tampering as I will get less for it if they find it has been rooted.
I am fine to flash an odexed stock rom (im pretty sure there is one in the dev thread), but does anyone know how to get the bootloader back to its original state, when I have tried with other phones it always says "re-locked" instead of locked and is obvious it has been tampered with.
Any ideas?

You can do "fastboot oem lock" to re-lock the bootloader. This will change it from saying "unlocked" to "Locked". However it will still say "Tampered" above it and there is no way to get rid of that once it has been unlocked.
