Vibration issue? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I've had my s9+ for like almost a month now, and today it started doing something weird, it started vibrating randomly, I shut it off and the problem was gone, but now everytime I press the Bixby button (that I have disabled) it starts vibrating nonstop so I have to restart my phone. Also now everytime that I unlock my phone it makes a double vibration EVERYTIME, either I unlock it with intelligent scan or my fingerprints. As soon as it launches the main screen it makes a double vibration (like buzz buzz)

To boot into safe mood.
Press and hold the Power button until the Power off prompt appears then release.
Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
To confirm, tap Safe mode. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete. ...
if the problem persists
-Try factory reset
- Hardware fault
doesn't?
- Means one of your third party app is causing this

Well, I have done that and the problem is gone, so I'm assuming that it's a third party app just like you said. Now the problem is, I don recall having any new app installed recently...

It looks like malware, I encourage you to do a Factory Reset by Recovery Mode:
With the phone off press Power + Volume up + Bixby button at the same time until you see a blue screen saying installing updates then release the three buttons and navigate with volume keys to Factory Data Reset press power, select yes, power and Reboot System Now.
NOTE: Before doing this backup your data and logout of your Google n/or Samsung Account. If you don't logout you'll be locked out of your phone if you don't remember the password of these accounts because it triggers FRP Protection.

and yes, if u want a straight fix, do a factory reset and monitor every app you install
OR if you are feeling adventure / want to learn more / curiousity
u can go in to device maintenance and do a security scan + check on every single app u installed.
check app like
home launcher,
lock screen,
"change bixby key" app,
those ram/cache cleaner app (this app have a options that when u lock and unlock screen it will clear ram/cache auto - useless in android and battery waster)
or u can screenshot your app drawer here and let us have a look.

I've done the factory reset and the problem is gone, but seriously I don't remember having ANY weird app installed before the reset, anyway the problem is solved and I'm happy thanks a lot to everyone who responded.
Also in another matter, have you gotten the March or even April security patch yet? Because I'm still on February patch...

Shutdown the phone
Start the phone
W8 until the boot animation starts
Press power button+middle button + left button
the phone will vibrate
Release the buttons
The phone will ask for your PIN and you should be able to see a text(Safe Mode) on the botton left corner of the screen
And I have to ask something, What can do safe mode, that can't do xRecovery ?

if you didnt do a backup on xrecovery and if you install an app that may cause malfunction to the os. You can enter on "safe mode" and you can fix that.
i think it can help devs too... we need to explore the "Safe Mode"
well that's cool but its just something which does not allows me to play games and has dirty watermark of safe mode..! nothing much found..! dev people may try to **** around the kernel thingy! it might allow to change or edit it!
can it be used to reset setcpu settings in case of boot/crash loops due to overclocking too high? if so i can see this being useful to anyone who checks 'set on boot' option and has problems...maybe?
would solve alot of 'keeps crashing' problems people complain about
Tried this on CM7 v14.5 by slade86 on my X10MP. Booted, saw the safe mode watermark, then it automatically rebooted. It wouldn't even let me unlock the screen.
One question: because my phone's vibrator dont work, how many secs i must push the buttons?
Thanks anyway...
Thanks for the tip.
I see that some people are complaining that is not useful, it might not be for them, but you never know if it won't help other, and it's always nice to know what soft is capable, like the engineering or hidden menus.

[Q] Disable power button menu in lock screen

Is there a way to disable the menu option when long pressing the power button when the phone is in lock mode?
My phone is switching its self off sometimes while in my pocket.
I have tried widget locker but that does the same as the stock screen and still offers this menu while the phone is locked.
I'm using Redmi Note 8 pro Miui 12 Global Rom Android 10 i not found the option sec_key.kl
I can't answer your question directly other than to say you may be blaming the wrong thing - is it really possible that you can keep sustained preasure on the switch for about 8 seconds?
Is it possible that your phone may be rebooting / hanging / freezing in your pocket like mine and many others are?
Have a look here and here to start
Two seconds is enough in my stock lockscreen. So it's very much possible.
Stupid how the shutdown-window is accessible through the lockscreen. Takes away the whole function of this so called lockscreen..

But you then have to select "Power off" and then click "OK". Are you suggesting that's happening in your pocket?

Tapping or pressing thepower button will bring the swipe screen / lock screen back but this does not stitch off the phone!
From OFF, if I press and hold the power switch, the lock screen comes on, then goes off after 5 seconds. At this point, the phone has not shut down.
From OFF, if I hold the button down for about 9 seconds, it does shut down.
As I said, I don't think this is all that easy to do by accident - maybe even impossible! BTW, my phone is stock.
I'd still say it's the dreaded phantom rebooter

Never mind, you're right about that. I stand corrected. It takes a lot of effort to shut your phone off with the power button, so that can't be the reason OP's phone is shutting off.

Thanks very much for this
Just removed the wake option from the power button.
To answer a few other posts. The few times it has switched off it has only been while in my jacket pocket. Carrying my niece, seat belt on/off etc. I know it appears difficult to replicate but I have not had any other issues like mentioned in the other forums linked in post 2.
The reason I think its the power button is because I have taken my phone out of my pocket recently and noticed that the menu to shut down has been visable on the screen. I haven't had an issue of it turning off while on a desk etc which is why I think its the power button.
I may be wrong and if it carries on turning off I will look at other options but I do think its silly (how ever hard to replicate) that an option to access the shut down menu while in lock mode is stupid.
By removing the option to wake from the power button and setting widgetlocker to block homehelper there is no way to access the menu the power button had until the phone is unlocked. Which is how the lock screen should work regardless of if it solves my problem or not.
For SGS2 users, I used Root Explorer to edit:
Code:
/System/usr/keylayout/sec_key.kl
I found the following line:
Code:
key 116 POWER WAKE
To disable the Power button from waking up your device, simple delete the word 'WAKE', save the file, and reboot.
Cheers to the others in the HD2 thread for the tip.

i have the same phantom restart problem......but i cant access the phone to use the root explorer ....wat should i do????
Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues

Nice, this was exactly what I was looking for on my Nexus 4 running 4.3 and Cerberus. Unfortunately only the power off menu is disabled (it just flashes for a millisecond) but long pressing the power button still shuts off the phone...

Booting into safe mode

power off the phone and remove the battery for a few seconds and then put it back in. Press your power button and after the phone screen turns on press and hold the volume down button until the phone boots up. It should enter safe mode and display some text near the bottom of the screen.
This loads the phone without any Play Store apps active.

That's the way it was on the Droid Incredible 2. On the original Dinc, it was Volume Down + Optical joystick. You don't have to remove your battery to do this, though, or even turn the power off. A simple restart works.

lol. I wish. Safe mode, as in a desktop operating system, lets you enter the OS without allowing problems plaguing your system from apps or other things generally causing problems. You can uninstall apps or change settings to fix issues. If you're overclocking with an app like SetCPU and having problems, it lets you boot into the OS without the overclock which may be causing the issues. If the overclock is built into the kernel or set before boot, you'll have to find another way.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Screen not shutting off when charging

I updated to Lollipop a several days ago through Kies. My battery life was not good so I did a factory reset. I reinstalled my apps and set up the phone the way I wanted it and it worked properly for a couple of days, still not happy with battery life. Yesterday I found that when I set the phone on the wireless charger the wireless charging notification came on lighting up the screen and the screen would not shut off. I googled it and all I find is to go to developer options and uncheck the stay awake which I have done, it was not checked so I checked and unchecked it same thing happens. I restarted the phone several times. I made sure Daydream is off. I uninstalled the last apps I installed. I tried to plug the wire into the phone to charge it same thing happens. I found that if I unlock the phone then set it on the charger it will time off ok, but if a notification comes in the screen lights up and does not shut down. I found that if I push the power button the screen goes off and stays off until a notification comes in and the screen lights up and stays on. My next step is to factory reset again but I wanted to see if anyone has another suggestion before I reset. Any help will be appreciated.
You may try wiping the cache. I'm assuming you didn't have this problem before the factory reset and not immediately after the factory reset. Now this is just a suggestion but I'd try this before I did a factory reset. I'm guessing you are not rooted and you are running stock so your recovery will be stock. To enter recovery power off your phone then while off hold the volume up, power, and home button at the same time. Hold and you'll see "Recovery Booting" in the upper left. You can let go of the buttons now. You should have stock recovery now booted up. Using the volume keys scroll down and pick "wipe cache partition" Use the power button to select. Once it's done and it won't take long. It will be on "Reboot" go ahead and select that. With any luck that may solve your problem.

You are correct that I did not have the problem before or after the factory reset and I am on stock and not rooted. I am trying your suggestions now and will report back thank you.
Thank you for the suggestions however it did not solve the problem, but after I wiped the cache I found that the T-Mobile My Account was staying in the notifications and showing that I was close to my 3GB high speed data. I turned off the notifications and now I have a normal working phone again that shuts off the screen when charging.

Glad to hear it. Yeah, I would have suggested shutting off those notifications just so they don't bother you. Anytime I want to know what T-Mobile has to say I just open up the app and look. I'm on wifi 90% of my time so I don't see using my quota anytime soon.
My sister updated her phone and somehow keep screen on while charging got enabled as well.
I had to enable developer settings (double tap build number 5 times) and uncheck keep screen on while charging.

Little surprised to see this enabled on a pure stock device.

Question Power On/Off Button Issue

Hi, i have Global Version with newest software. I have a issue with my phone. When I hold power button i don't receive options with power off, reboot ect. Only works on/off screen with click button. And now my question: did any of you have the same? For me it looks like software problem, because when I install application from Google Play something like Reboot everything's work. But it's anoying when all life you hold button and you have that option in android... In all phone there is no option to power off, restart device. Maybe someone have an idea? Thanks
Hold power + volume up for 3 seconds and power menu will appear
I have the Chinese version and the power button lint press launches an assistant feature. But if I press it longer, it loads the power options. Try pressing it longer hopefully it resolves the issue

You need to push all buttons (power and vol +) in the same time and power menu is working, ofc it's better to hold power button instead but it's better than nothing
Thanks tried again and it works still the software still feels a bit buggy but we should expect that with a new phone software updates should clear that.

For me it's not so bad at this state. Sometimes i have a glitch with screen freeze when I go to settings, or something like that. Previously i have a Mi 9 and it was for 3 years (now much software problems, Xiaomi: to much phones, to much software) but this phone is a rocket. Little software upgrades and it will be very good.

yes, same goes with me. tried combined key then accidentally found how to turn off this device. really annoying.
also after update to newer version, AOD not working anymore. and I dont know if finger print reader not always standby? before I am using Mi note 10 pro, and this phone can unlock it without need to wake up the device.
have bug also in 3D photos, the image not separated at all, so the result only photos with wobble movement. Hopes realme fix it soon.

Yeah, I also had this problems. The only way I found to solve it was to factory reset the device and do a clean install WITHOUT Cloud backup from Google (if I restore from Google, AOD, fingerprint icon, etc.. not working)

I found another bug. Hidden apps have a bug. It always unlock when I unlock the phone. It should be using secret code to activate the hidden folder, but now each time I unlock the phone using finger print, it automatically popup the hidden apps folder in unlock state.
Rather than hidden the apps, now apps that I want to hide became always appear right after unlock the phone screen.
