But most, if not all, retailers only have the chinese version in stock, not the global.
So I have two questions.
1. Is there a difference in band support between Chinese and Global version? I mainly need band 20.
2. Does the global and chinese version support the same roms here on XDA? I don't know chinese, but if I just flash a rom, it wouldn't really matter which language comes preloaded as I intend to run custom roms anyway.

That Chinese Redmi note 5 is Redmi note 5 pro, codename is whyred, totally different with redmi note 5/redmi 5 plus (codename - vince) in this xda device section.

Hello. I just broken screen on my Umi Plus and was looking for a phone with good ROM support (buying localy in czech republic instead of Aliexpress). And Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon 650) fits my needs,except MIUI. But this forum is for Note 3. So,are ROMs and tweaks compatible between them? (Snapdragon and Snapdragon versions)

Roms should work on "Kenzo" model and also for "Kate" with the right firmware flashed, check the rom threads.
So the Chinese variant is redmi 5 plus which is currently available in my country, with same specs as redmi note 5, same processor and everything, will I be able to flash note 5 roms on redmi 5 plus after unlocking the bootloader when the custom roms of note 5 appear on here?
Seems like both are the same devices with different names. Both have Codename Vince.

I am in italy and have RN5 Eu version.
Do i have to refer to the "whyred" version for modding? For custom roms? So is this "Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus" the right section for me?

This forum is for "vince" which is the Redmi 5 Plus in China and some other markets and Redmi Note 5 in India. The forums for whyred are the one with the name of Redmi Note 5 Pro.
To clear confusion check if your phone has single camera or dual camera. If it is single back camera then its vince and this is the forum you should refer to. If you have dual back camera it is whyred and you should refer to Redmi Note 5 Pro forums.

edit: just read that i have to wait 15 days to unlock bootloader... its that true? i thought its 48 hours not 15 days... really stupid i think i have to search other than Xiaomi

REDMI NOTE 5 is the INDIAN version and REDMI 5 PLUS is the GLOBAL version, with the same hardware.
on the other hand yes, it is true, believe or not I had to wait for 360 hours (15 days wait) to unlock de bootloader in order to root my REDMI 5 PLUS, flash twrp and install custom ROMS. That is the unclear policy of XIAOMI.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is known in China like Redmi Note 5 (whyred)
Redmi 5 Plus is known in India as Redmi Note 5 too (vince); This causes the confusion both receives same name depending from where they comes (or where they were released)
Whyred (snapdragon 636) has other specs than vince (625)

The Redmi Note 10 Pro(Indian)(sweetin) has the same specs as the Redmi Note 10 Pro (global) except for the camera which is a 64MP sensor. I want to install to install MIUI EU ROM from the xiaomi.eu website. The model listed in the website has the codename 'sweet' which refers to the global edition with the 108MP. Most blogs and youtube videos with instruction to install the ROM for my model direct me to the official link of the xiaomi.eu webiste which is for the 108MP edition. So It will be better for you to ask this question in Redmi note 10 pro forum
Second for Redmi note 10 both mojito and sunny have exactly the same specs and the respective Roms are compatible for each other
