Does anyone know if my sprint device will even work on at&t and tmobile's network once it's sim unlocked? Because sprint is cdma and at&t and tmobile are GSM carriers. Would my device operate alright on GSM carriers are would I just be able to use it on sprint's and Verizon's network? Are should I just sell my device and go buy a tmobile or At&t device.what would you guys do? Thanks In advance!!!
I guess this is your answer?

Well I know you can take and put a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card in Sprint in a work I'm just curious how closer frequencies are how good it will work that's what I meant thanks
Since the S8 (I think) the manufacturers (Samsung) started making their devices to support both CDMA and GSM.
Older smartphones (up until last year) used to support either one of the two technologies, but not anymore, now you can use your CDMA (Sprint) S9 with a GSM sim (AT&T and T-Mobile).
In my experience CDMA unlocked phones work on GSM. Not the other way around. And just an add on Verizon phones I think all of them but I know the s9+ , Note 8 , and the iPhones all are unlocked from factory and will work and even populate the APNs for (ATT) GSM. Which is what I use.

Did you ever get your sim unlocked figured out? Man this is becoming a pain lol even finding a website isn't working I figured they'd have something figured out by now. Any info is appreciated tho.

After inquiring if they could provide me an unlock code for my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9+ and getting the reply
"That's does not matter, all carriers are supported. For Sprint phones there is a 100% success rate.". :victory:
I used the service yesterday, paying $13 via paypal; and got the "unlock code" this morning and instructions on hot to unlock my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9+.
After downloading their Network_Unlock App and following the instructions to apply the unlock code, I got the message "Device Permanently Unlocked";
Rebooted the phone as indicated and inserted a non Sprint SIM, the phone notifies "Invalid SIM card" and "Unable to read SIM card contact your service provider"
This makes me think that the service may be a hoax.... Other unlock providers for this phone charge from $45 up to $180... so $13 is too good to be true. :crying:
Anyway, I'm looking to double check with a different online network unlocker, but I'm facing the issue of that my phone is not being recognized by my computer.

Ask for a refund, if no response alert paypal immediately. they'll eventually refund you and block the scammers account after investigation
Can't speak for the S9 but my S8 was unlocked through Sprint since last year and I have used it on both att and t mobile. When an att sim is added, phone restarts with att apps installed. It evens displays that annoying NFC indicator. I was really surprised to see WiFi calling was working on att with my Sprint GS8

No I didn't work I bought the service day before yesterday I followed all the steps they told me in the email and I didn't work at all not for sprint. I'm opening a PayPal case for refund.
I am actually working with them as we speak and or said that my phone was permanently unlocked, which I believe due to the actions of the phone before it was unlocked. which was the signal bar image changing. before I paid to have it unlocked the signal bar was not there when I put in different Sim cards.
it was that circle with the line "?" in its spot. And it constantly wanted me to put in the UICC sim that came with it. now it had a signal bar, but it is grayed out with an "X" in it.
no longer am I being asked to in put the UICC Sim card. those messages and alerts have all stopped. it is just saying that my Sim card is "not readable contact service provider".
I told them before they started and showed them afterwards with pictures and they informed me that my level of luck isn't just a normal network lock. and they claimed to have sent in a request to Sprint Servers or whatever to have the phone unlocked.
now when it comes to it not working flat out. I was told that custom firmware and Roms causes the unlocking to not work. I didn't want to believe them, but being trusting, I reflashed the stock firmware and followed the instructions and it unlocked the phone, my sim card just can't be read atm. but the company is working to get that fixed. they have been very helpful and answering all my questions and concerns. I blame Sprint for them using different security patches and ****

Any update?
Just adding some more info and possible options for us sprint s9+ owners..
I did not have any luck with samsungsimunlock either and so I'm trying with unlockpolice. They claim to be able to perform an uicc unlock.
Costs 180.00 but if it works for me will post the results. Should hopefully know by around Friday if they were able to do it.
The company actually read into a small snag. Which is another encryption type lock. They actually had to contact Sprint for some other code that I have to input. That's is if Sprint answers them back anytime soon. And I was going to try unlock police, but 180$ is way too much. I wonder I can do a trade in with Samsung for another phone

I have been trying to get the unlock code from AT$T ever since I got this phone. finally, the code is now available to customers for free and I got my yesterday. just in time for my trip overseas later this month. now my little aria is perfect.
so call at$t and get your aria unlocked
Do you need a foreign sim for it to unlock, or can you simply boot with no sim inserted?
you will need a sim card. all you have to do is:
1. power down
2. remove your AT$T sim
3. insert any sim, active or inactive (in my case I used my china mobile sim)
4. boot back up
5. it will ask you for the unlock code
6. type in code
7. done. your aria is free and unlocked
I tested it by using my friends t-mobiles sim and it worked fine

What exactly did you do to get the unlock code? I just called them and they said that an unlock code is not available for this phone
Also, are you out of contract or still in contract? when i called again, they said that the phone is still in contract, so they can't provide an unlock code.

I can use a friend's AT&T sim card but does it registers on his account or something? clarifications will be greatly appreciated.
boxcar8028,
wondering who you called/number. I too called yesterday (before reading this) even talked toa supervisor in the US (not India call center which is worthless) and they told me ATT doesn't provide unlocking code for the Aria ever (!), and would be 9 months from purchase for my other HTC phone (Inspire 4G) - both are in contract.
Sight, as I switched to ATT to get a world phone, and I'm traveling to europe in a week. Not looking foreward to paying >$25/phone on soem untrusted site...

not sure why AT$T didn't give you the code, but keep trying. it took me 4 try's in the past 7 months and each time they would tell me the same thing "code is not available for this phone" until last week. but maybe its because I have been with ATT for over 10 years, and yes my aria has a 2 year contract (17 months to go) and if they ask you why you want it unlocked, just tell them for use traveling overseas. keep trying, good luck.

not sure about a used aria, but AT$T will ask for the IMEI number to track the hardware. be careful AT$T may try to get you into a two year contract.

I just called 1-800-331-0500
I have been trying for over 7 months. each time I ask AT$T would always say check back in 2 months. not sure if the more you ask the more likely you'll get the code or not.
I thought AT$T would just make the code open to all now since the aria is an older model

We can make this happen if everyone will ask for this in AT&T forums. If HTC listened with the rom locking, I'm sure we can make AT&T listen as well.

as we can see even though the phone is sold exclusively by AT&T you still got the code. So the guidelines don't represent the situation here.
Unlock Codes
I'm going to try to get my unlock code. If they tell me they can't do it, I'm going to remind them that unlocking my phone is my right and the DCMA was modified by the custodian of the Library of Congress. If they refuse, I'm going to demand that they purchase my phone. Either way, if I don't get the code, I'm going to start filing complaints with the FCC. I don't believe they have a choice in the unlocking debate.
Cell phone providers, software providers, etc, enjoy benefits and protections that no one would tolerate for any other device. If you purchased a car that would only run on gas from one station, you would burn the dealership to the ground. But cell phone companies do it, because many people don't exercise their rights.
yeah, I have to agreed with you. I wish USA cell services was more like overseas, were people are more lock into their phone numbers then their providers. make sure to point out that you are within the unlock rules of AT$T and hopefully they will give you the code. - good luck

I'm sure everybody here support our right for unlocked devices. But this is even not the issue here. Even if we assume that AT&T has the right to lock the device, it seems that the company does give out the unlock codes to many users. That's what really frustrates me since I don't understand the reason to prefer one customer over another.
Please update us on any progress.
You just have to have been used the phone for 3-4 months for them to give you the unlock code. I have done this with previous phones, as well as with my Aria and my Mom's Aria. Both of them I bought on craigslist, so not on contract.

I'm not an ATT customer so the ATT store wouldn't sell it to me unless I have an account. The thing is I wanted the great no contract price of $299 so that I can choose whom ever I'd like service with. So I just asked my friend that has Att service if I could use his account info to buy the device and it worked. Sold me the gear S with no tie ins. No contact at full price of $299.
Compare that to no contract pricing of :
T-Mobile $350
Sprint $384

Good to hear. Ya im going after work today to pick mine up from the ATT store. I dont think im going to get service on it though. I trying to see if I can just use the sim card from my note 4 in it.
Your choice of carriers is still limited. You can only use it with GSM carriers which means AT&T and T-mobile and their prepaid partners. It doesn't support AWS so won't guarantee 3G on t-mobile.
Wait wouldn't your friend have to add some kind of gear s plan to his account? If not then I need to find an At&t friend.
I was considering the same since the local Sprint stores are out of stock, but every ATT store is swimming in them. Then it came to me that Sprint cannot work with GSM.

I wonder if its better to just buy the Gear S outright, with no service plan and rely completely on Bluetooth. I'm never without my phone, plus it would be nice to not have to pay $10/mo for a service I know I'd never use (3G on watch).
My only worry would be endless prompts of "No Service" but I'm not sure if that's how it would work.

Doesn't matter. Still should work with CDMA YAY! Just need to get a Sprint sim or any sim of your choosing. If you want to use it with your Sprint account then you'll need that sim. The watch is CDMA capable. I don't know about AWS but T-Mobile seems to say it is 4G (HSPA+) compatible. I don't know that it will work on 1700 but they also use the standard for their 3G. Tizen is not locked and the device shouldn't be either.

I haven't opened it yet still debating to keep my gear 2 or not mean while I did post in on Swappa/Craigslist but for now if I decide to keep I will figure something out with a sim card not paying 30$ a month for a freak watch plan on AT&T
What's the verdict if it's unlocked and can be used on Verizon? I'd rather pay $299 than $399. Would prefer Android but for $299 I can live with Tizen and hope a Google Voice and Groove IP equivalent app show up eventually.

I have some experience with unlocking android devices and rooting but never with HTC product.
I found a way to OEM Unlock the device. I was able to just go into developer mode and all i had to do was click OEM Unlocking. From my experience doing this should have unlocked the device from Sprint but it still lock up if i try to put in any other carrier sim.
Have you gotten anywhere so far?

When you enable 'OEM unlocking' it does absolutely NOTHING to unlock your carrier. That option is used to allow the bootloader to be unlocked (if your manufacturer allows for it). To do a carrier unlock you can do two things:
1. Buy the unlock code from a trusted source
2. If you know what your doing dump the needed partition holding that data and go from there

When you enable 'OEM unlocking' it does absolutely NOTHING to unlock your carrier. That option is used to allow the bootloader to be unlocked (if your manufacturer allows for it). To do a carrier unlock you can do two things:
1. Buy the unlock code from a trusted source
2. If you know what your doing dump the needed partition holding that data and go from there[/QUOTE

Contact the carrier.
If you bought your phone outright then you are legally entitled to have it carrier unlocked straight away. If you have a prepaid device, you can get it unlocked once it has been in service for a year. If your two-year contract has expired, carriers are legally obligated to unlock your device upon request. Furthermore, carriers are now expected to inform you when you become entitled to unlock your phone.

I used the same kernel read/write exploit as mtk-su does. I modify some parts of the kernel symbol table to enable fastboot and once you run:
reboot bootloader or adb reboot bootloader
You'll see on screen:
fastboot_init() and some other text. From there I ran a quick fastboot oem unlock and was able to unlock it's bootloader. There is another device (Alcatel 5059R which is the exact same device) that uses a similar method but the available little kernel (bootloader) can't be downloaded due to a 'virus'

No.
BTW: Your phone's Android must NOT be rooted to network unlock it ( read: unlock SIM ). You simply need the unlock code what typically is stored in file /efs/nv_data.bin and hence can get retrieved from there in case you aren't willing to contact carrier as I suggested ealier here.

I've contacted Sprint at least 30 times. They will not tell me anything about the lock. I told them all i would pay whatever the original owner owed. They say no. They want me to get all the guys info so i can prove it. Name, address, phone, and even his god damn pin. No one in hell is going to give you their pin. I bought the HTC HUB from a guy on ebay, who also bought it from a guy on ebay. So theirs no getting anything info wise. Sprint just merged with T-Mobile. I have T-Mobile and the two wont let unlock to use it on their network. They just transfer me back and forth from the old sprint accounts they are trying to transition to the real T-Mobile. I'm a postpaid customer for 3 years now 4 lines yet there is nothing they can do. It's ridiculous. My only chance would be to buy a sprint plan. Ohh wait...Sprint Merged and theirs no more f-ing Sprint plans.
Now all hope is lost.......
Thank you for getting bcak to me. I don't know what to do. I will try and locate that file the HTC Hub though.
I also have a Oneplus 7 Pro 5G Sprint, same friggin deal. I got them real cheap, but still come on. These companies are the worst.
Sorry to pump old post
But I have htc hub (2q6u200) and it's unlocked but the 5G isn't working on it I tried several methods to make it work but with no luck & never received any update
Also tried 3 sim cards here in Saudi Arabia (stc, zain & mobily) all of them worked on 4G+ with good speed
Is it locked or there is something else I can do to make 5G work?
please read next reply

First, the device must be unlocked to a certain carrier.
Second, there is more control over the 5G and assigned regions from the manufacturers
It seems that adding a region will cost OEM a royalty fee
All carriers Zain Viva Ooredoo etc.. have models of 5G phones preregister to the region by the companies like HTC, Sami, and all
HTC must register their units to your region in order for the 5G service to be fully functional.
Yes the 5G band n77 or n78 are available in ME but if your model is meant for US or CH for example then it will not work unless HTC goes and add ME region to those devices model#
One incident to the Samsung Note 10 (out of the box the Middle East - ME wasn't written!) but the authorized Samsung distributor had requested SAMSUNG to add the region for these units. Later on, the 5G started to appear on all these SD devices. similarly, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 was sold only by Qatar Ooredoo, but the 5G was working with no issue in all ME countries.
In your case, I think your HTC 5G HUB is locked for some company.

I've contacted htc support and they said my hub is for UK market so 5G is not going to work in Saudi Arabia and I can't find trusted website to unlock it so I'm stuck on 4G.

I got a Cricket Wireless SIM card, and their site says it's compatible with the HTC 5G hub (in 4G mode) according to the IMEI, but then I read that Cricket is now AT&T, and they *were* LTE but now they are *GSM*.
Or maybe it's not unlocked?
I'm sure there's a whole procedure for unlocking, something like get an Alacatel nv reader/writer tool, get into recovery mode, etc, etc. I was able to adb reboot recovery, and then figure out that the reset button on the rear is used to step through the menus, and the button on the top is for selecting.
So I'm off to find out about the Alcatel tool and how to use that, but am I wasting my time because Cricket is now AT&T/GSM?
Hi, I'm from the UK and have a band 41 HTC 5G Hub that only works on 4g here. Any help on unlocking?? Or a potential swap with someone with a UK compatible model?
This question is for anyone who has a pixel 6, or really any new pixel (5, 5a, 4a) on At&T or Firstnet (same policies).
Does ATT's Sim unlock also enable Bootloader unlock. (Ungrey the setting in dev options and allow root).
Trying to confirm what this user said: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/at-t-pixel-5-is-carrier-locked.4195785/post-84100651
For anyone who says "Just buy a Google one", I can't. I'm a first responder and need a full firstnet capable device. I also don't have $900 to spend on a pixel 6 pro, especially when FirstNet is discounting the mmwave + sub 6 pixel 6 $200 for first responders.
THIS IS FOR TMOBILE but is prob similar on ATT -- i have owned several tmobile oneplus devices, as well as countless other tmobile devices. can't help but trade in my old junk, you know? anyway, if you are getting your phone on EIP, then you will need to stay on the network for 40 days before you can ask tmobile to SIM unlock your phone. and they will do it. no questions. just make sure that phone is activated on the tmo network for 40 days. this is for SIM unlock.
alternatively, you can pay the phone off in full. then tmobile will SIM unlock it for your sooner. again, this is SIM unlock.
alternatively (#2), there's a guy on XDA who does this for Tmobile. he requires 3 days of active service. there may be someone similar for ATT.
once you are SIM unlocked, the OEM UNLOCKING toggle becomes active. at that point you can turn it on.
from there, its a matter of using fastboot commands to unlock the bootloader. or whatever other methods are necessary on a pixel phone. i've owned oneplus phones for the last 8 years so this will all be new to me when i get my pixel 6 in a couple days.

Did you have to fill out their online web form , or put in the new sim for it to ungrey out ? How long did it take to allow you to change the setting?
Also thanks for answering. This is good news.
Interesting. Does anyone know if you have to have an AT&T account to purchase an AT&T phone at full retail price (ie: without buying it on a plan and then paying it off)?
I wonder if it would be possible to purchase an AT&T Pixel 6 outright so it's unlocked, unlock the bootloader, and use it on Verizon (with full Sub-6 and mmWave support).

It looks like you would have to have an account and choose a plan, but you could cancel it immediately if you bought the phone at full price. At worst you would have to pay $30 for activation, but hopefully not.

Seems doable.
I wonder if the VZ and/or AT&T variant of the firmware is needed for mmWave to function correctly or if the "global," non carrier-specific firmware still includes drivers for mmWave (even though the global variant of the phone lacks a mmWave modem).
Probably a stretch, but I figure it's worth asking: You wouldn't happen to have access to and/or know somebody that has a 5G Verizon phone with a 5G sim you could test it with, do you? Even better would be in an area with known-working 5G mmWave.

Good question. I had assumed the mmWave capability was hardware-dependent. Honestly I'm not sure.

Super excited received my P6 from tmobile today, loving it so far, except for the fact that i cant unlock the device!, i received it and dev option was already enabled and the device has a greyed out Oem unlock with (cannot be used on carrier locked device)
I believe you can unlock the bootloader once the device has been paid off in full. That was the case with my 4 xl anyway
So you need to contact tmobile and get an unlock code, or look for an unlock app here, but I'll try to help by asking, whats a p6?
A year away from leaving primary school lol...
Nah, seriously, who made the p6?

You have to the sim unlocked. TMobile's policy is 40 days after purchase and paid off, they will unlock the sim, which provides the authorization (ungrey) to unlock the bootloader.
You can try and chat with T-Mobile via social media and they may or may not unlock the sim for you. It's good to have a reason you need it unlocked.
I answer a question in the HELP OTHERS ANSWER UN_ANSWERED QUESTIONS... thanks...

Ask @mobbdeep
Your best bet is chat, if the chat doesn't do it. Call in during mid day to get ahold of a local expert. You can ask for a whitelist of your IMEI. 'Your job requires it to have the bootloader unlock'.
Had mine done today because the software was broken - forced flash all partitions through the pixel utility.
But give T-Maybe a call.
It took me (7) times, yes 6 returns and re-upgrades before i got the right rep to whitelist the IMEI, before i even took the device out of the box, the customer service rep had the IMEI whitelisted and Carrier Unlocked Successfully.
I am awaiting my P6P now, and if the 1st boot with no SIM doesn't work, to the phone i'll go...
I talked to a FB chat rep and he didn't do it for me. Attempt 1 is a failure. I'll try again tomorrow and then maybe everyday once. All I need is just one considerate rep.

Throughout the years I've noticed @T-MobileHelp on Twitter has more tools/authority in General, over Customer Care or in a Store. That being said, they are more "by the book" and stick to the rules more. The only difference was I told them it was a replacement device, and my last Pixel (4XL) was Unlocked. No questions asked, the Rep flipped the switch without question. Device was NOT paid off, it was actually billed to my account, downpayment and all...

Actually, right after my reply last night at 1:30 am CST, I talked to a customer service rep and asked her to out my device to whitelist. And she did it! She said that it'll take up to 24 hours for the request to get processed. She also confirmed that then my device will be network unlocked and I'll be able to OEM unlock.
20 hours have passed since then and I'm waiting patiently...

This contradicts most of what we know. For T-Mobile to have your IMEI in their system, you’d have to have the SIM card in the phone and have used it, otherwise they wouldn’t have record of your IMEI? Even @mobbdeep who was the user here that unlocks TMO for us for free, one his requirements was exactly this, the device to be unlocked needs to have the SIM currently installed for a minimum of 3 days. He even went as far as saying if we happened to remove it at any time, the 3 day minimum resets. But other Pixel 6 users said they were able to unlock the same or next day after buying it so maybe 3 days is no longer required, however the phone sim still needed to be inserted for your IMEI to show in the system. How did you unlock a device that you hadn’t possessed yet and why the need to return the device 6-7 times? If TMO refused to unlock you, there’s no need to return or reupgrade your device? There’s nothing wrong with it, the issue is with the TMO rep, them refusing to help means they likely did nothing to your device at all so no need to exchange it?
I asked Twitter T-Mobile help to get my phone unlocked. They did it for me. After I got the notification I tried to use the unlock app from T-Mobile for Google pixels only. It didn't work. I suspect you don't need it though.
