They fail to install? Do you have the complete deodexed APK? Have you tried pushing the APK file to /system/app folder and reboot? Even then they may fail due to dependencies on Samsung's framework.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
you don't rename it.
on computer you extract it, go into system and you see the apk
it won't let you install on phone by just clicking
put on sd card
go to astro, or root manager
move the memo.apk to system/app
done.
you need to extract the folder with winrar winzip whatever then there is a folder with the apk in it. copy it over to your phone under downloads or where ever you want to put it. then install.
edit: just did all that i said and when i tried to install the apk it says "application not installed"
just did what u said, even rebooted, and still don't see it

read the post above.
you have to move the .apk to system/apps
because memo isn't a regular app.
got the same thing. used astro, place the apk in system/apps. nothing happened. rebooted, still nothing. then even tried using the app manager in astro to install it and it says "there is a problem parsing the package"
Link no longer working... could somebody upload it again please ?
thanks

I've tried this with MIUI (1.7.22) on a SGS Captivate with no success. I have flashed many roms and installed/sideloaded many apps over the past 10 months. I know I'm doing it right, as I have 'installed' other system apps by moving the apk to /system/apps and fixing permissions and ownership. Has this worked for anyone on a MIUI ROM?
Another related question would be - is there a way to export the notes from the stock memo.apk?
Does anyone know an idiot's guide/tool for unpacking a rom, removing unwanted apk's and then repackaging it suitably for install. I can unzip and remove the apk's from the system/app but the problem I have is zipping the package up suitably for install, I understand that the package needs to be signed and I have seen a few guides using openssl and SignAPK but couldn't get a package that would install.
I know I can uninstall some of these apps using an uninstaller app but I would prefer they just weren't in my rom in the first place so I have a relatively clean rom - my phone is basically a glorified mp3 player that occasionally makes some calls and send the odd text so there are a fair few things I just don't need to be installed on the phone.
On my mini pro I'm using the SonyStyle GB rom

Any help will be appreciated.

Open the zip in something like 7-Zip or WinZip or windows or whatever the default archive manager is on linux, delete the files you want and close it then install. that's it, signing is done on creation by the dev and isn't like a MD5 so it doesn't matter if you modify it
X10man
what i do is i have winrar and i just double click the rom zip file then go to system then go to app then delete the app (and the odex file if it has one) that simple and if you want to add an app just hit add (provided your still on system>app folder) browse to the apk file you want to add then hit hit ok. hope that helps
Cheers guys - from what I had read I thought I had to re-sign the package once I had edited it.
Hey there, I have an xperia S running rooted stock 4.1.2 jellybean, and I'd like to install a keyboard from the playstore as a system application. The keyboard works fine when installed from the playstore, but when I push it to system (and set the permissions properly) it just force closes and does not work at all.
I've pushed various other apps from the playstore into system and they have worked without fault. Is there something finicky with installing keyboards from the playstore as system applications?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey, thanks for the answer. I actually have no idea how to grab all the libraries from an apk. Any chance you could give me a rundown on how to do it?
So I realise now that "opening" the apk is as simple as changing the extension to zip and opening it like a normal archive. The apk does not contain and libraries, however. Is there any other way to get it to work?
I'm trying to reinstall some deleted apps to my Verizon GS4. I downloaded the big zip file with all the stock apk's but am confused now since there's also a ".odex" file for most of the ".apk" files. Do I need to install both the apk and odex? If so, how?

You need the odex files.
They go in /system/app just like the apk files.

Thanks. The next question is about how I'm installing the apps. Typically, I've just downloaded an apk to the phone, clicked on it and pressed "install". If I do that, then what do I do with the .odex? Do I manually copy/paste it into the app folder?
Also, with some of the apk's, i get a "application won't install" message. Any ideas why? These apk's are all from a huge master apk download of all stock Verizon GS4 apk's.
I want to extract the files from the APK to get the app installed,
the problem is that the system does not recognize the apk files anymore.

if you want to just extract apk then it can be done by winrar but if you want to make it installable in your device then decompile it using apk tool

I think you are trying to actually extract it on the device and not your computer. This is possible with easily with an app called RAR For Android available in the Playstore. It's a free download.
If you mean extracting .apk files from your phone to get elsewhere you can use an app called "ApkExtractor" available in Play store for free of charge.
It's an android device (4.2.2) and it doesn't recognize APK files
So I need to extract the APK files from my computer to my device so the app will be installed.
