Upgraded W- Couple Questions... - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, long time, but still see a lot of great information here! I'll make this a quick one as I just upgraded, through a VERY long process of trying to find the right phone, from an LG Tribute 1 to the LG Tribute Dynasty. The main reason the search was extensive was due to trying to find the right Virgin phone that could be rooted. So far no good, so I just went with the LGTD.
I got it nice and tweaked and organized, but figured I'd still hold out hope on any suggestions root related. I checked through the forum and google and nothing extensive, which sucks b\c King Root worked so well for the Tribute's 1 and 2. My friend who mods a lot said that the manufactures are really cracking down on this apparently, related to the boot loader or some such; I'm not as techy.
And the second issue would be, if there's no hope root wise for the LGTD, any suggestions on a reliable system \ phone wide ad \ spam blocker? I got REALLY spoiled with Ad Away but oh guess what, it's root only!
Either way thanks in advance everyone!

i came across your post because i wish my friends, who know i'm a tech person, would ask for help before wasting their money on crap like this.
so next time... figure out which of the tri-opolies you are going to get your mobile service from and *then* pick something that already has community support behind it.
even a bing search quickly shows Virgin Mobile runs on the Sprint network, so basically look for any Sprint device that has official LineageOS support, buy used, same money all around and enjoy more complete control over a new to you device.
meanwhile... you can at least use latest GC has some ad blocking built in, Fx can do similar as well with stuff like uBlock Origin, but those sorts of add-ons tend to eat ram and cpu, so i just stick to minor improvements like HTTPS Everywhere, Decentraleyes, and Dark Reader.
hope that helps.

Help for an young(ish) fool

There is so much that I would like to know, I am not a programmer although I did dabble with Basic on a ZX81 and I don't really think i could learn a new language at my age, not that i'm old, its just that i'm lazy.
Over the past few days I have been amazed by the developments on this site; new ROMs issued, new(?) software found and I've done my best to keep up but I just find myself losing my way.
I've installed the v1.1 dev rom and am getting on with it fine, its just that it doesn't seem to do things that the o2 version did - i suppose that's the point - but i'm never sure whether its something i've done to mess things up.
I can sit in front of my pc at work and tweak, change, mess up and start all over again and the same at home, but when it comes to the XDA i'm a little lost. I know (or at least think I know) what's going on 'under the hood' but as with pcs i still keep coming back to 'what if, what if.....?
I would like to help in some way. This site has given me confidence to change things - although I don't really understand them - and I'm not sure I could get myself out of trouble - I know where to go for help but that's not the same thing.
So if anyone knows of something that I can do please let me know.

Ah, good old 81: I had one. I'd say it's gotten easier since...

It would help if you were more specific: what did it do before that doesn't do now. I can only think of this 'Action Engine framework' thing, which we found to be superfluous. We have, to our surprise, since discovered there were some people that actually used it. It's big, it's installed in RAM, and it can do sneaky things behind your back. We didn't like it.
So if anyone knows of something that I can do please let me know.

You're purposely being vague here, right?
not purposely vague, just feeling my age, its the end of term at college and despite being student free for 6 weeks, i will have plenty to keep me occupied, i'd like to get to grips with.............but that's another story. i'd like to learn more about xda's without trashing mine - i'm still paying for it and i'm a tight-wad.
as to things it doesn't do - wap doesn't, ezos shortcut works but i can't get anywhere. action engine doesn't but it was there and i did use it - however the apparent difference in speed and the difference in space make that no loss.
how, for instance is it possible to remove items that are apparently unremovable? Transcriber for one, i have a copy of Calligrapher that doesn't like transcriber, but can i use calligrapher - no.
oh and i'm really interested in anything free. and my students like me - when i'm awake, and when i'm not asking them to work.
that'll teach me for rambling, another thing not working is my o2 email account i get into this endless cycle of connecting, logging in, disconnecting, connecting, logging in, disconnecting..........................

[Q][Solved] Hello looking for info on modding an android for boost mobile

Hi, I am new here I have modded a few droid phones and windows phones following guides here. I wanted to ask the gurus around here about getting an android phone on boost mobile. I see that they are selling them now but the phones are not all the great.
What I was wondering if there is a list of compatible phones and what options I might have. I would love to duel boot with Debian and have a decently moderate CPU and amount of ram. I have been using a blackberry 8350i for years and its starting to fall apart and I think it is time for an upgrade. I do work in IT and I do a of networking setups and such and being able to use Debian on the side would be a huge plus as I would not need to carry my laptop as much.
Thank you for reading sorry if this sounds noobish but I was search Google and this forum and I did not really find any relevant information.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Thanks for moving and sorry for posting in the wrong spot
Boost (in my area and I think most area's) run off the Sprint CDMA network.
What you need to do is get any Sprint Android Phone with a clean ESN and call Boost to have them activate it on their network.
If they tell you no, keep calling back until you get a Rep that will do it. It's not against any of their policies, but some Reps don't want to do it.
My brother is on Boost and has done this successfully.
What we have found that they WON'T do (at least any/all we have talked too) is activate an Unlocked Verizon phone on their network (I think Sprint may really hate that).
So it wont be like my Blackberry where i had to mod the service books and such to make it work it will just work? ... any recommendations on a phone to get? I would like to get something with 8 gig internal storage that will handle duel booting and handle a lot of network tools that run off debian ... I was also thinking of getting a nook color but Id rather have a phone as its not so bulky i am trying to minimize what i gotta lug around ... Thank you so much for the info.
I should just be able to bypass the reps and do it online right?

This is not like GSM phone where you just pop in a SIM card and go. They have to actually have the ESN of the phone, validate that it is clean (not stolen or the person you bought it from had is account closed for non-payment or something else) before they will activate it.
They have to actually provision the phone onto their network and allow it to access it. no way to By pass this unless you work for Boost.
As for which phone to get, just go to their website and take a look at their devices. You can even go into the store and check them out. Asking a question like that won't get you far as everyone has different tastes so best to just go look on your own.
I, personally, could not make a recommendation as I am a GSM only user. I refuse to go to anything CDMA for the sheer fact that it makes it almost impossible to travel internationally, at the present.
Ok thank you so much ... I am looking at the Samsung Epic at the moment
Well I went with the epic ... thanks everyone for the help I am very happy going from a blackberry to a droid ... now to figure out how to skin and and such !

Cheap Android Tablet for children

Hi Guys
apologies if this has already been answered i did search and found a few pots but they didn't give me all the information i was hoping for or match my criteria exactly.
Ok so i have a 3 year old son,
his hand to eye coordination is coming along and ever since he's been able to unlock his mothers ipad we cant get him off it.
i have no problem with him using the technology at such a young age in moderation and im sure it can be quite educational with the right apps etc.
however using his mothers ipad is not ideal, its totally open he could accidentally press anything from in app purchases or anything that is available on the internet which is a scary thing.
we came to the conclusion that he needs his own tablet, that we can load with selected app's and he can play etc.
i looked at the tablets designed specifically for kids like the vtech's leapfrogs etc but im not exactly sure they will be the best way forward because they wont really grow with him yes they are probably great for a certain age range but as he gets older it will loose its usefulness.
i need something that's going to be pretty much a disposable price (£30/£60) lets be frank this is probably going to be destroyed on several occasions.
so i want want an android tablet the bigger size the better. I need it to be able to root the device as i want to take advantage fully of titanium back and restore direct to a replacement device if needed.
needs to be able to run sort of childrens apps available i know the can be a broad spectrum but lets just say the average ones (processor / memory consumption wise)
i have seen lots of different softwares to lock the os down, so only use certain apps etc but any other suggestions would be great. or anyone who has made something similar.
cheers guys

There's a dedicated thread for such questions here,

I'll close this thread.
Good luck!

what can I do with a Trio Stealth G5?

(running KitKat) I received this for my birthday, and was advised by Linux tech friends to come straight here, greets everyone.
My goal with this tablet is to watch tutorials and grab faster bandwidth for uploads and downloads when in range - nothing too exotic.
I'm hoping to persuade the goods out of anyone familiar with this. If it's TOO bad there's time to return it, but my real concern is just battery life and if a ROM can help it to OTG while charging at the same time, or alternate means to power it if I go camping or am away from power.
All I've done in the meantime is disabled apps I know I don't want, and rooted it for a while (Kingo Root) just for AppFreeze but ditched both.
Any and all info and comments, even bad ones, are really appreciated! I have decades on Windows Mac and bits and pieces of Linux. No Android but I can find my way around.
Was this worth buying?

I definitely think it was worth buying. It's fast and has a nice screen for not being HD. I was in a bad accident a month ago and my mom bought it for me to waste time in the hospital and skilled care facility. I haven't found any roms for it yet, I just opened a thread about that.
Sorry I don't have any more info for you, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure.
First of all I hope you recovered well - I hadn't logged in here for ages. Super nice of your mom to get you one in your time of suffering and recovery.
Lately I've hoped this could upgrade to at least Android 5 because of an app that would allow me to use the tablet as a remote control for the audio workstation Presonus Studio One.
I emailed the G5 people (they seem gone now) who told me they didn't have a ROM to upgrade the tablet.
Any upgrade is better than where I stand with Android 4.4. Nothing that matters runs on it and the tablet sees wasted with no use.

Are there any phones actually worth rooting anymore?

Due to a little frustration I decided to create a whole thread for this.
I suck at computers and I have no idea what I am doing so I ended up bricking my device lmao.
In theory, the thought of rooting your device, and installing a custom OS sounds great! (Like communism) but when put in practice never really works out. The reason for that (I think) is because there are so many different versions, models, and brands. I end up spending all my time trying to refine my search to the right software and versions, and then when I do, I am stuck with some stupid site like (every damn rom site) with a 20kb/s download rate, and a page full of ads! Why? Because they are storing like 2 billion different 2GB roms. In my opinion paying for faster download speed from these websites is ridiculous. I don't even know why they offer (you would have to be stupid(like me)).
(tl;dr: Android SUCKS)
So, now to my actual question...
With the release of the Librem 5 phone, there really is not going to be a point to rooting phones anymore, because google with already be decimated from it... But that comes out in April/May and I still need a phone in the meantime.
So.. Are there any cheap phones ($500+/-), that are not a pain in the ass to root? And one that the developers actually care about to actively develop. All I wan't is a phone I can install stock android with root, and that can be installed without google or gapps. Also I live in Canada, which is another reason why it's a pain in the ass to find a decent phone because all our carriers deadbolt their firmware, and bootloaders like their storing the coordinates to some secret location with a pot of gold.

Try Mediatek phones, they are cheap, easy to unlock and root.
However, you will have to search whether they have a custom ROM since Mediatek never releases their source.
HIT THANKS IF FOUND USEFUL
