I am able to connect to the M5, though the M5 is not passing the network on to it's clients.
I haven't tried any other 3rd party options. I'm in the US using the LTE 8.4 on B125(C00).
Thanks.

I have the same problem. Did you figure it out. I'm on att unlimited data only plan. Using my tab s 8.4 it works fine.but m5 I can get on it but no internet
I use a treble ROM in which the hotspot function works without a hassle. I didn't like EMUI from the beginning and didn't want to install a 3rd party app to get functionality that is built in to the OS.
it works for me on stock rom (10.8 pro) so as usual it might be carrier related you poor guys
It also worked for me on the stock rom when I tested it out of the box.

Or use it temporary before getting the solution?

I have noticed that ever since I rooted my Thunderbolt I cannot tether. All devices will connect to my phone(other phones, computers, xbox, etc) but they cannot open a web browser. It used to work on the hotspot ap that came with the phone. The only thing I can think of is that on the stock app, I could change the security to wpa/wpa2/wep. On this new app I cannot change, am I grasping at something that isnt there or is there something else that needs to be done?
help me pleas,e, my neighbors internet wont be there forever. , .
I've been rooted for some time and it may be coincidence but sense the last 4g outage last week my tethering has "limited access" wired or wireless. I'm using liquid 3.0.2 built in wired/wireless hotspot. wifi apps I've installed don't work either now??? Help
Go here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and try the newest version thats available. Also in settings check the router fix option.
Also you can try open garden from the market..

wifi tether>settings> enable Routing fix
Then it worked.
My neighbors now have one les person stealing their wifi. Thank you!
Still no luck here, may just be the rom? Ill try another with the new wifi and see if that works.

I'm on Liquid 3.2 and I've had the best luck recently with Open Garden (wireless tether app)
@ tatt: did you go to that link above and download the new app to your phone?
I never did this on the old Rom so it may be that.

I noticed that the android wifi tether app states that it only works for 3G and 2G. I wonder if this is just a "canned" statement? Does anyone know, for sure, if it works for 4G tethering?
Yeah I did, neither the old or new one are getting more than limited access. Know idea what may have changed on the PC side? Nothing new or changed? Just the outrage on Verizons end last week. I'm baffled. I have tried a couple other Rome with the same results. Sucks pdanet is a third of the speed.
There's a bug with CM7 if your using it, I'm having the same problem. I have a none stock kernel with it but I can't using wifi-tether or the built in tether. Makes me want to switch to my sense ROM. :/

It works for 4g, I use it all the time. Im running stock rooted sense
If you're running CM7 set your built in tethering to OPEN for security and run this version of wireless tether use the same name as the built in one and it'll work. I finally got it working a few minutes ago.
Thanks will give it a try when I get home.

Thank you.
It works on my 4g, I tested it with a speed test website and was getting 5mbs.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I dont know what I did but my hotspot can only hit .25 mbps now according to speedtest.net
I then watched the speed on the hotspot and it shows the same
Its been like this for a week now, does any one know the settings layout on the hotspot? Are theer any that could affect this?
I have rebooted my phone, switched airplane on and off. I then tested the speed on my phone and it is getting 4g, so the problem is with the hotspot.

You rock JRocker23! Always helpful - a Thx is in order. Of course the Market QR code returns "No Results Found"
Try changing the type of connection to Infastructure or Ad-Hoc. I don't remember which one it was, but one of these fixed a very similar issue for me.
I have tried few different 3rd party vpn programs and they all yields the same result, always disconnects after 30 seconds or so, especially when data is being used.
I read that could be Verizon, phone specifics, openvpn, vpn program, and or android kitkat.
I had the issue on stock root rom and Jasmine rom.
Is there any way to fix this?
I'm using the non LG vpn. pptp. my vpn works fine on jasmine 3.0. I know it's not secure but I'm not doing any banking transactions or anything.
perhaps you could give more info as what your connecting with and connecting to, and what protocol.

I just use the default protocols and settings that comes with the app. Lets say Cyberghost vpn app. It would say connected, I open Firefox, go (any websites), in less then 30 secs it would disconnect and would try to reconnect.
Bump
Anybody know anything about vpn over 4g?

Been an issue for years. It happens on almost every phone with every VPN app when using Verizon 4g. It has something to do with the way data is passed through Verizon 4g. There is some kind of firewall causing it used by Verizon. I read you can fix it by paying Verizon a buttload of cash for a static IP. Other than that, there is no fix.
And it's not like they want you using one anyway since they track what you visit on their network and sell that information.
I'm on the Jasmine ROM and even stock I used the LG VPN to connect and it works.
I can stay connected all day with no issues.

I had a s3 with Verizon and never had an issue with VPN disconnecting like with the g3. I do not know being on 4.3 on the s3 and 4.4.2 on the g3 has anything to do with it.

Any simple ways to bypass the security lock screen requirement?
I decided to try it and could not get it to connect with the VPN service I am using on my desktop.
VPN worked perfectly find for me on my note 2 that was on 4.3.
I know there is an issue with 4.4.2 because my note 2 on 4.4.2 didn't work either.
Anybody have anymore leads? I am aware that the stock VPN may work, but it does not have the options of the VPN apps (I need to configure each individual profile/site).
Hi all
A while since posted but grateful for all info Ive learnt from this site re rooting etc.
Anyway my query...
What is different about these two settings?
first the background.....
I have a Nexus 4 with a contract that includes unlimited data and up to 4GB of tethering.
My provider has a website that shows a live figure for the amount of data ive used
Now the issue/question....
when I use the "portable wifi hotspot" on Kitkat I can tether my laptop or ps4 to it and it never registers any tethering use... Fantastic!
Then I updated to Lollipop and tried the same and it registers/uses all tethering unfortunately!
Not happy with this I rooted my nexus4 and reinstalled the official kitkat4.4 from the google developers website and thankfully its gone back to my network provider not being able to monitor my tethering use.
So what has changed?
Is there a way around this?
Im tempted to buy the samsung note 4 whilst its still on kitkat4.4 just purely for my tethering benefits but will there be software on that allowing the monitoring?
Thanks in advance for all/any help
Do you want to monitor the data which consuming from your device ?

No I dont want to monitor the amount of data Im using.
I want to continue tethering my laptop to my phones data plan without my network provider knowing, as I can with Kitkat4.4 but not with Lollipop5
Oh, I think it's cavity "lake" in kitkat an Google fixed it, in lollipop so you have to try finding a new method to do that. If you can explain more how you did that, I will try to help you.

Sorry Im not sure what cavity lake is.
As for how I did it. its simply the option in settings; wireless&networks; More; Tethering & portable hotspot; Portable Ii-Fi hotspot; Then I just ticked the box and it works perfectly, no method or extra apps required.
Its a UK issued nexus4 from google on a uk network if that makes any difference
Thanks
Maybe you should to install a hotspot app such as this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.core.technology.wifi.hotspot&hl=en .

Thanks for the suggestion, luckily ive rooted my phone back to 4.4 so all is working OK I'm just interested to know why, maybe a change in monitoring/tracing software by google?
Anybody else have an idea?
Or advise if Sammy note4 works OK?
Hey, late reply but what network was able to monitor your usage after upgrade? I'm on UK network and my Xperia has just been offered the 5.0 upgrade but I don't want to upgrade if it will limit my tethering.
The app works and I changed the mobile settings to ipv4..it still is using the hotspot data..does any one have all the correct settings? Thank you and thanks to all the developers for their great work.

I have been noticing that on the lg g4 and now the v10 that mobile my account shows small usage of mobile data but not the actual amount I used. I might just be a mobile thing. Not quite sure but I too saw the same thing. But I also watched a week's worth of anime on my laptop via router and only was a 20mb increase in hotspot usage.
What are your mobile settings and the app settings? Thanks

I used all the same as the stock apn except I changed to ipv4...I assume you're rooted. Did you turn off the wifi scan setting under wifi?
Yes, I'm rooted and the scanning is off. I have even emailed the developer of the app. His last response was that I need a vpn.
There must be some sneaky software tracking whether you have tethering enabled. My Hotspot Data is being used/throttled no matter if I'm behind a VPN or tethering to another Android phone.
I'm rooted, removed all of the suspicious looking system apps, and set the APN settings to what I've always used before. I'm at the point of giving up and probably just going to use another phone to tether until a stable custom ROM is released.
I used to have this problem on my old Note 4 where the WiFi Tether app was working perfectly but Tmo was still tracking my data usage. The workaround that I found was to connect to a private VPN on my laptop. I used Private Internet Access to hide my IP and then I was able to tether off my phone with Tmo no longer capturing data used. I'm not sure if it will work on my new v10 though since I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet. I think there's a free Google Chrome extension that will do that same thing and for free. I forgot the name, sorry.
On my note 3 the guide I followed said I had to change the build file in a couple spots and then it worked perfect if that helps u guys out at all I really want this but can't use a vpn bc ps4 won't allow it with online gaming and my phone all I got out here in the woods
I don't know about this feature of turning our android device into Wi-Fi repeater until I come across this app Fqrouter2 and the sad part is, it's not working currently I don't know the reason, it's even pulled down from the Play Store. Is there anyone in development interested in making such app or already trying? I searched the internet and couldn't find a similar app like this, it has other features as well but Wi-Fi repeater/extender caught my eye. If anyone can come up with only Wi-Fi repeater/extender feature app, that would be great. Thanks.

AFAIK most devices/wifi chips can use either AP mode (WiFi Hotspot) or connect to an existing WiFi. I guess it just works with some devices/WiFi chipsets.

Even I was under this impression for long time. I got to know with this App you can use Wi-Fi and Extender(Hotspot) simultaneously.
Edit: It works only on rooted devices, I can install the app but unable to execute it on both Marshmallow and Kitkat.
I wish there is one. Wifi extender/repeater is a catching feature

Try netshare-no-root-tethering on Google Play, tested and works on my Marshmallow device. You connect to a wi-fi, turn on the netshare app, and it creates another wifi network like mobile hotspot that other devices can connect to.
So does FQrouter2 still work on Android 4.2.2? Or did it require ancient versions of Android to work?

As far as I can tell, this is the only working app. Tested on AOSP Marshmallow Galaxy S4 - I took my sim card out to make sure it wasn't using mobile data, and it works! Shares your WiFi as another network. Unfortunately the app is ugly as all hell and doesn't let you change the name or password of the hotspot. Plus it requires you to use some dodgy proxy thing so it's not quite as good as fqrouter used to be. Anyone know of any other apps?
EDIT: also doesn't seem to play well with HTTPS

Hey mate! Do you have apk of the pro version of this app? Thanks.
Alternative
By the way, i found this similar app in Playstore which is completely free. ) See attached.
It still requires a proxy to be able to connect the devices.
Unfortunately, I need an app that will repeat wifi without the need for a proxy, as the device I want to use it on has no options to enter proxy.
