Has anyone had any issue with the G Tablet shutting down after it goes to sleep? Right now I am running virtually stock (rooted with latest VS update). If I leave the tablet for 10 minutes the screen will shut off as expected, but when I try to wake it by hitting the power momentarily the tablet does nothing. If I press power for a few seconds the tablet boots up as it does from being completely shut down.
If I select sleep from the power off menu, I can wake it if I hit the power button or home button, but only if I do it within about 30 seconds. If I wait any longer, it seems to shutdown. I don't see any settings anywhere for this.
Other than this, everything else seems fine. About the only other thing I can think to mention is I did flash to tnt lite 2.02 and had to recover due to boot loops. I've reset, cleared data and cache, etc...
Thanks for any feedback.
Same happens to mine sometime. Currently running TNT 2.02
I've noticed this a few times also. I have no idea what's causing it. Fortunately, boot up is fast!
Same here
Not all the time, but close to half.
Plain vanilla not rooted.
mysterious fix
I had the similar problem where is shuts off half the time after pressing the sleep button. The symptom went away after installing the Miren browser. Can't explain it.
SH
This was happening to me and I tried many nvflashes and every rom so everything you can try. I exchanged mine today after a lot of research online and now for the first time it sleeps and wakes up. I am certain that there are just a few models that can not be fixed.
So happy to be able to hit the power button to have it wake up.
I recommend if you still can then exchange it for another.
My Malata Zpad does this sometimes too. I thought it was movement that did it, or the magnets on the case, but it looks to do it at random (or when something runs in the background?)
It used to do it 5-6 times a day, now that it's a week old it seems to do it maybe once or twice a day.
I am having the same problem. I do not remember this before the last update (3389).
The tablet is stock, not rooted.
I use the volume button to wake mine.
any one else having this problem? just got my g tablet today and it always shuts down when it goes to sleep
any way to fix it?
i was going to root it right away but hesitating now since it will void warranty - the shutdown after sleep is kinda annoying...thanks
Yeah I had similar issues under stock firmware but subsequent patches fixed the issue for me. Have yet tohave it happen on vegan or tnt lite roms.

i took the plunge and installed vegan last night - still have the problem (shut down after going to sleep) -
so any suggestions?

Did you wipe to factory reset before going to vegan? Mine was doing that, but I never did factory wipe for subsequent vegan updates. Since I have done the clean install, never had this problem.
There are also several kernel updates which allows VPN, cifs, ntfs and other enhancement as well as higher fps.
Love my tablet.
well i only have the tablet for a few hours - and that was a problem out of the box
before installing anything i did the "wipe user data" option from the settings menue in the original/stock TnT - then logged in using Family name - and shut down to root (install CM/vegan ect)
i just downloaded and installed this: "1.0.0 Beta5.1 Link" - thats posted on the first post on the vegan thread
so didn't install any kernal updates or anything yet...if you can point me towards them and what to install i would really appreciate it - thanks
also seem to have a problem where no matter where on the homescreen i swipe down it pulls down the notification bar - any way to fix that?
my solution
I had the same problem out of the box as well. I tried using the Vegan rom with the same result. I went ahead and downloaded a free app called hibernate from the market. It puts it to sleep and allows me to wake it up like how its suppose to. As of now, it has yet to shutdown when asleep.
My ghetto fix til someone can truly id the problem with a proper solution. Hope this helps...

If you are running ADW launcher it is a "gestures" setting that can be changed in the ADW specific settings.
The ntofication bar problem was caused by adw ex launcher
Still having problems with the sleep mode thing, tried all thedelete user data and cashed deleting still no luck
Other then that I really love this tablet. So should I return it?

Mine too
I'm having this same problem....I find it hard to believe this is a "hardware" issue although I guess its possible. I'm running Vegan 5.1beta but it did it with the stock 3389 firmware too before I upgraded.
This issue is the only fatal flaw thus far I've run into, I'd love to get it resolved.

This is a "bump".
I just wanted to know if the folks with the original issue on this thread (gTab shutting down after sleep) tried my suggestion and if so did it fix the issue for them?
I had the same problem and it fixed it for me.
Hi folks,
I have had this issue a few times now, basically when I try to tun wifi on using the quick settings tile it doesn't come on, if I then go into settings-wifi & try to turn it on using the toggle the toggle moves but doesn't change to the blue colour or say it is on, it just goes a light blue colour, if I then back out of settings & try again the toggle is back to off. I then basically have to turn the phone off & then back on (the quick boot feature in developer settings doesn't do anything) & when it boots up wifi is on.
Anybody else had this issue? The phone is getting replaced in a few days due to gap issues, over heating & camera lens not being centred anyway but just though I would check.
Cheers.

I had this issue on .55 firmware. Haven't noticed it on .69 yet.
Cheers for the reply Jackos.
I had it both on the .55 firmware as well as the .69 firmware, have done factory reset etc but it still happens every few days, really stumped by it.

I think I saw someone posting this issue at Sony Support Forums, let's hope they fix this in the next firmware revisions.
I'll keep you posted if this happens to me again on .69.
I have this happening to me, on .69 fw. Normally a restart will do.

@Jackos Cheers for keeping us posted mate
@pohsze Yeah mate, only way I have found so far to resolve it is to power off then back on, strange thing is wifi is on when phone finishes booting lol.
I have the exact same problem and I am on .55.
Sometimes I can't even turn Wifi off so I have to reboot. It is really weird because I don't know what triggers the bug.
I almost decided to return the phone but it is hard to recreate the error, and a reboot fixes it so I don't know if my phone company will accept the bug.
Since others have the same problem I hope they fix it in the new updates. Will come back when the .69 is released here.
I have same problem - switching in & out of AIrport mode cleared it.
I have the same problem.
First time I encountered it this morning.
Not sure from when wifi was not working for me.
In wifi settings no networks were shown.
Turning on wifi button would go light blue . . . but nothing would happen.
I selected Airport mode. Waited a moment. Then exited Airport mode . . . and wifi started working.
I'm on firmware .55

Hey I get it sometimes too, just press and hold on the wifi icon and then manually turn wifi on in the wifi settings, works fine after that. Just a minor bug.
I have also experienced the exact same problem on the newest firmware. Only happened once, and going in to the actual WiFi settings didn't solve it, since the button turned light blue as described. Strangely after a little while when the phone was inactive it started working all by itself.

Same issue
Hello all,
I have the same problem when I tried to turn Wifi on by accessing Quick Settings and pressing Wifi button.
It works again after 10-15 times pressing Wifi icon.
It just happened last few days and I didn't have any system update recently.
Im also having the same issue. Anyone managed to get a fix for this?

Im also having the same issue.
Anyone had a solution for this :/ ?
I don't think i have this issue yet since I just got the phone, but I remember when I setup my wifi connection there was an option to enable/disable wifi based on location. Could it be that the phone's GPS location hasn't update yet and think you are close to your wifi location thus won't let you turn on? May be disable this feature and report back if you guys still have this issue.
I am on .167 and this is happening to me more and more often it seems like it is getting worse. If I go into settings/wifi I get a white screen that says tunring wifi on and no further change. This usually starts occurring 18 hours or so after I reboot. It looks like no one has any idea what is wrong.
Fred
I have this same issue, a restart fixed this fora couple of days but now it seems the Wifi wont start up at all
Still had some warranty so returned the phone at the store that I bought it at.
Had the issue from the moment I got the phone from my gf (she has a new one) and did a factory reset.
After that I have flashed 3 different versions on it and for all the WiFi didn't work.
Let's see what happens after I get the phone back..
Hi,
This morning I randomly decided to update my firmware (as per Sony's incessant reminders). I updated to 17.1.1.A.0.402, as it was what Sony's updating app was telling me the latest firmware was. I updated as instructed on my tablet, wirelessly. The update was successful and totally uneventful -- no incidents whatsoever.
However, immediately after my update, my wifi dropped, and after that, I couldn't reconnect to *any* wifi network whatsoever. I toggled on/off, and the wifi would reconnect for a matter of seconds, maximum 2-3 minutes before dropping and never reconnecting again. To reconnect to wifi, I'd have to toggle off/on again and then would have seconds to try and load a page (but would never succeed)
So, I updated the firmware again, this time using the update application for the Mac since my tablet could no longer connect to wifi.
I successfully updated to 17.1.2.A.0.314.
Still the same wifi dropping and not coming back issues.
Then I tried "repairing" my software from the Mac, which I'm lead to believe erases everything and flashes with the most recent firmware.
Still had the same wifi issues.
Then I tried an erase/factory reset directly from the tablet.
I still have the same wifi issues, but they don't kick in within seconds anymore. Now after several minutes, the wifi will drop and not come back.
Any suggestions for a fix? I'm as of yet unrooted, and would like to remain that way if possible...
Thanks!
I would suggest a factory reset after flashing the update. Might solve your problem.
Before that you could try to delete your Wi-Fi and set it up again...

Thanks for your help
"Repairing" from this Mac app is flashing the update, correct? It erased and then flashed anyway. Had to set up the tablet like it was new. Is that not a factory reset?
In any case, I did a factory reset immediately afterwards, from the settings screen of the tablet, as mentioned above.
By "delete your wifi" do you mean "forget" the networks I'm trying to connect to? If so, I've done that many times, and have had to re set up my wifi networks anyway upon each factory reset/flash/erase.
So I think I tried what you suggested, and no dice, unless I've misunderstood?
Perhaps worth noting: I'm using the accompanying Sony Bluetooth keyboard.
Wifi seems to stick around a bit longer when Bluetooth is toggled off (no keyboard), though I could use the Sony keyboard before the update, no problem at all.
Yes that was what I ment.
Sorry it didn't help solving your problem.
Seems like you should call Sony.
It's the Bluetooth. Wifi and Bluetooth are on the same chip and won't work at the same time. It's a hardware fault with pretty much every Android system I've used. Turn off the Bluetooth and your wifi will be fine.
Thanks for your reply – though it was possible to use the bluetooth keyboard at the same time as wifi before the update.
Bluetooth keyboards would be pretty pointless if you couldn't use wifi at the same time as you use the keyboard, wouldn't they?
Between the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S, and an iPad, I've used all with bluetooth keyboards + wifi without issues (until this firmware update on the Z2).
Use 5GHz Wifi, then the problem will be solved.
Sounds like you have been lucky so far and due to the small amount of data a bluetooth keyboard transmits. Bluetooth headphones are always transmitting as is wifi when watching hd youtube videos. They will always interfere with each other, but only every minute or so. Google the problem and you'll see its pretty universal.

Hi, here's my experience with my Z2 tablet, unrooted. I too have had wifi problems: after using the tablet fine for a while, with a strong signal, the tablet drops out, then wifi access stalls whilst "Obtaining IP address". I sometimes use a Bluetooth Microsoft keyboard, but have had the wifi drop out when I have Bluetooth off.
The only reliable (so far) solution I have found is to move to a static IP address. Not ideal, and perhaps not much help when travelling, but an OK workaround for a home or other wifi network where you have admin access to the router.
Hope that helps. Apologies if my newbie post is naive.
So I know this topic has a few posts many a year or so old but I'm looking for a possible work around for this issue. Here's a background of what happened:
I have a rooted note 4 originally running cm12, I wanted to return to a stock build and when I did something happened (can't remember what) and my wifi stopped working it would click on them immediately off my first thought was kernel so I flashed a new one but didn't help I tried a different stock build 5.0.1 instead of 5.1.1 but still same issue. I went back to the cm12 and that seemed to work fine still, I looked for another stock build because I'm stubborn and flashed a different kernel than the previous ones I've tried. This seemed to fix my wifi issue at least for a day then back to the same issues. Anyway here's what I've been messing with to try and figure this out.
I'm focused around the file wpa_supplicant.conf as I've tried restarts and all that but that won't do anything. What I have noticed recently is when I don't have any networks saved in that file I can toggle airplane mode and try toggling wifi, after a few sometimes dozen attempts it comes on and works fine so long as it stays on. If I turn it off I have to restart my process of going into wpa_supplicant.conf>deleting my saved network>toggling airplane>then spamming wifi. As I'm able to repeat this it leads me to believe it's not hardware related, slim chance on loose cable, But if there's a way to prevent the system from auto saving a password that might help with a workaround. I've tried changing that files permissions as well as the ones in the system>etc>wifi folder but they get changed back
Anyway I'm still working on finding the root cause but will update if I find anything also tried deleting the wpa file and that works to after a restart but issue comes back and so does file which doesn't seem to me that its a corruption issue
Update:
So I somehow crashed my Samsung messenger app switch to hangouts and then back so decided to wipe my phone and refresh the OS. I factory reset then advanced wiped cache, dalvik, system and data. When it rebooted I tested the WiFi in the system setup and it worked fine I could turn it on and then off normally so I decided to continue setup once fully setup and no other apps installed I retested the WiFi. It worked fine I connected to an access point and it stayed connected I then forgot the network cycled wifi and tried again and again still worked so I let it sit and would test it throughout the day. About an hour or so later the problem reappeared which was odd. I did my old workaround deleting wpa_supplicant.conf and toggling wifi until it turns on. I got it to turn on and connect to my home WiFi and left it, so far I've kept my wifi on and it's stayed active for 24hours now and reconnects fine to my home router when I'm in range and back to lte when I'm away so right now it seems I can have wifi if I don't toggle it off. Still not sure what's causing this issue as since I'm currently using wifi to write this I don't see it as a hardware issue. After trying multiple kernels I don't see that as the cause either, although possible. Will keep messing around and update if I find anything further
Update 2: so far I've been able to keep my wifi working great as long as I keep it on and don't toggle it off. Doing this has kept it active and auto connecting to my home wifi for a week straight. I make sure to keep wifi I during sleep so it won't disconnect but it also seems to stay active through restarts which is great. This still leads me to believe it's software related and not hardware but not sure where the issue is.
Update 3:
So far I've just kept my wifi on while trying to find the issue. The only other issue I've come across was since my wifi is on 24/7 and auto connects if I want to use my lte instead i have to either turn off wifi or forget my home network which neither is an option. But I have found a solution:
I was able to add a shortcut to my home screen that actually disables the current wifi connection without disabling wifi and forgetting the password. To do this you must have Tasker just create a new task in second tab, I named mine disconnect wifi, click the plus sign and select "net", next select "wifi net" there is an option that says disconnect. Have that selected then go back and thats it,add in icon on bottom right to use as a shortcut. I've tested this and it works great one tap and it disconnects the wifi but keeps wifi turned on and if I want to re connect just go into WiFi settings and choose the one to connect to
Ok so to start off im gonna give you some information: my phone was rooted with magisk and it was running b360, it worked just fine until one day my wifi kept turning it's self off for no reason. That kept happening but not very often so i didn't mind it. Today my wifi wouldn't start at all(the switch thingy went blue then gray immediately) again and if i tried to turn it on again my phone would reboot.I then unrooted and went into safe mode to see if it would fix the issue but it was the same, so i tried recovering my data from twrp. That didn't fix anything once again, so i did a factory reset(that prolly screwed me over big time) after the factory reset i realized that my phone wouldn't finish the setup thing because it needs to connect to the internet to check for new updates. So my issues are that i can't seem to be able to access my phone through adb since when i use "adb devices" it doesn't show my device, and that my phone is basically unusable right now since it wont get past the "checking for updates" phase. So what should i do? Any help is appreciated!
*update*
I got past the "checking for updates" phase and i completed the setup by sheer luck(my wifi worked for a couple of seconds), but the problem still persists. My wifi can't be turned on, or when it turns on it stays like that only for a couple of seconds and then goes off again also my phone crashes from time to time aswell(usually when i mess with the wifi, but sometimes it just does it on it's own).
I know is abvious, but is WiFi+ turned on? That can turn off your WiFi for you if not near a saved hotspot. Could be a confusion between this and location services.

WiFi+ is turned off. From what I've observed so far after i restart the phone i can use the WiFi for about an hour or two, after that it stops turning on. But if i use it for about 20-30 mins, turn it off, and turn it on again after a while when i want to use it again, it works (obv if i use it for 1-2 hours the problem will occur again). So what I've been doing so far is just use it for about half an hour then turn it off until i need it, and repeat. I know that im probably not making much sense right now but i don't know what to do anymore.
