Is anyone else having problems getting Voice Mail notifications? For some reason mine don't show up and I have to call my voicemail randomly just to know when I have one. Is there an app I can download that can help with this? Thanks.
If you aren't getting the voicemail indicator, its most likely a network issue. The MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) Is a text message sent to your phone when a voicemail is deposited into your inbox. If you are receiving sms just fine, but aren't getting voicemail indications, You're going to have to call customer care from a different device, they will basically just reset your location on the network, resend the activation downloads and toggle your messaging services. That pretty much always fixes it.
You might want to also activate Visual Voicemail (just access the application, it will activate as long as your account is set up correctly.)
Thanks for the suggestions, I downloaded voicemail Notifier and it works fine, so I'll just stay with that. I think I deleted Visual voicemail when I was deleting bloatware.

Visual voicemail has been a godsend for me
You should switch your voicemail to Google Voice. Instant notification of transcribed voice mail, as well as free text messaging
Its because you deleted visual voicemail. Reinstall the apk or get it in the mkt it will fix it for you.

I just happened to be going through the AT&T bloatware and happened upon this app - I decided to see what it was all about, and lo and behold, it's actually useful!
It puts your SMS, voicemails, and call log in the same stream. It also puts them in the cloud, and gives you a Speech-to-Text transcription of your voicemails, which is nice.
I have some minor complaints, but overall I enjoy using it. I have a few concerns about AT&T having all my texts on a website somewhere but it's a great way to have them all already backed up if you lose your phone, etc.
You can even send SMS from the website.
So, are you using it? Do you prefer another app for these things?
I was using it the first week of ownership. It's not bad but I quit because people would text me photos and they would only show up tiny?
Went with the gosms pro app...works great.
I don't want to use it but it's the only way I can get my vvm.. I've tried using the. Apk floating around here but it keeps telling me it can't validate it. I wantbto get away from it

I use it.
I like the VV to Text and the "cloud" functionality... I only want it gone b/c it takes over notifications and I'd like to use the BLN functionality of Da_G's OC Kernel... BLN doesn't work with AT&T Messages (yet).
@n00b1269, VV to Text (Which is what AT&T Messages does) is different than regular VV. I think if you have your account changed to regular VV, then the original VV .apk will work... I think.

your going to have to call or chat with AT&T to have them reprovison your account in order to use the VVM app thats posted here in the forum i had used the messages app first then it screwed my account somehow not letting the VVM app validate if you look at that other thread i posted there
that sound like google voice only GV is 1000% better!
I used it for awhile, but the vlingo in car mode won't read text messages from it. So I switched back to handcent for text, and YouMail for vvm. Works great, and I love the new plugin for YouMail, called who are you, that gives true caller id for all calls.

Yes. I like att messaging a lot. Its simple and clean. I like the ui better than GV. For my use it has more functionality than GV except for the option to leave different voicemail greeting for different callers.
GV gives free texting but I have the $30 unlimited m to m and texting so no advantage there. Also I don't think GV support mms unless that's changed.
Only problem I can't get SMS popup app to work with it. I'm using Popup app instead and it works okay.

I am using VVM on my stock GNOTE.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452330
DL it to your pc and email it to your Gmail acct that is on your Note. Then check the box under apps that allows you to install from Non-Market places. (Unknown sources) Under settings-applications-Unknown sources.
PLEASE NOTE
if you have already set up AT&T Messages, you will need to uninstall it and either call AT&T from another phone or log into your online att.com acct and do the support chat. They will have to remove Voice Mail and the feature AT&T Messages. They will then have to provision/apply Visual Voicemail back on.
It works great and I am stoked to have it back on my phone. I just had the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and VVM was on there. Loved it. Anyway, hope this helps.

It did that to me to but I did the support chat and had them remove AT&T Messages feature and Voice Mail. I then powered my phone off and on, they added Visual Voicemail back on, powered off and on again and it worked.
The AT&T Messages feature is what is causing the issue.
I'm using it right now for VVM and it seems to be the only way to receive iMessages (Former iPhone User) in group form. If I try and get the messages from the stock app, I cant reply all... Anyone know of any other messaging apps that can receive and send messages in a group sms/mms fashion?

I know GO SMS Pro supports group messaging, but I'm having an issue with people receiving double and triple messages from me while using that.
EDIT: You can't receive iMessages. iOS and OS X only, for now.
The ATT Messages app seems to work the best for me atleast for the iMessage style group chats. Go SMS Pro always splits it up for some reason, not sure why.
question about Go SMS Pro, I installed the app and its working fine (mostly use for the msg without closing other apps) and i would like to set it to my default Messaging app. So i go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Messaging>Clear Defaults but when i go to launch Messaging app it does not ask me what app i want to launch nor to set it as default.

If you launch the Messaging app, you're going to launch the Samsung Messaging app. Just like if you pressed S Memo, it's going to launch S Memo, not some other note taking app on the phone. You need to open the GO SMS Pro icon. In Edit Mode, you can drag and drop the GO SMS icon over the default Messaging icon to replace it in the TouchWiz tray.

Never used it and never realized it did all that. I thought it was like a chat thing for ATT users like 3 of my friends and me could all see each others texts like a chat room.
I've been using Google Voice for years now.
VVM
To be more specific on the issue with VVM. IF you ran the ATT Messaging app, it causes all sorts of changes in ATT's system on your account. The Tech/Rep looking at it for you will tell you all is well, and in their defence, it appears that it is correct. However, it's not and it's deep in their system and they can not control it.
To get it corrected, you have to have them COMPLETLY REMOVE YOUR DATA PLAN ( re-read that 10x.. it is EXACTLY what they have to do to get it working ). VVM is attached to your data plan. They can tinker with voice mail all day, it will do NOTHING for you. And good luck getting a rep who will actually go though the trouble of removing the data plan, especially if your on unlimited in the states still. However, if you anoy them enough, and keep them on the line long enough, they will eventually do it just to shut you up. Your best method of doing this is actually to go to the store and do it there. The reps there have permission to do it, where as the phone tech's kept having to call other departments to get it done.
After 3 days and 4-5 hours on the phone with a tech they got mine working. So I immediatly loaded the att app, it killed VVM, and I was able to drive to my local store, and they had it working again in 10 minutes ( that is 10 minutes after the guy did what i asked, complete removal of the data plan ). I did this just to prove it was a repeatable fix and not a 1x deal based on some random error.
Apologies if this is irrelevant. I don't have a i777, but I set up AT&T Messages on my i727 (Skyrocket). Didn't take more than a day to realize I hated the interface (and the fact that the app shanghais all notifications).
Unable to resolve how to turn off the notifications, on a whim I decided to just try to uninstall the app. To my amazement, it actually worked. My regular VVM went back to normal. I needed no interjection from AT&T at all.
I know this is very much a "hatchet" solution and not a "scalpel", but hopefully it's helpful all the same.
I've been using AT&T Messages for some time now, primarily because of the free voicemail->text transcription. For some reason, it is flagged in Google Play Store as incompatible with the HTC One (M8).
I sideloaded it (version 2.14.5.41 as of this writing) and it seems to work fine on the M8.

If not using a carrier branded rom it will flag the at&t apps as not compatable...or it just may not have been updated yet for the newest sense htc build

I guess I was unclear. I have an AT&T-branded M8 fully stock, and the Google Play Store shows my phone as incompatible with AT&T Messages. If I sideload it, it appears to work fine so I suspect that it just needs to be marked compatible in the store.

I've become more wary about downloading APKs of apps normally found in Google Play Store from other sources. If you have access to a rooted phone compatible with AT&T Messages, I recommend just copying the APK off of it.

Does the AT&T Messages app still do text transcription of voicemail? I have an M7, and after I changed plans (switched from a legacy plan to Mobile Share plan) the AT&T Messages app stopped transcribing voicemails. I worked with Tech Support for months trying to get it working again, but nothing worked. I noticed the AT&T M8 comes pre-installed with an 'HTC Visual Voicemail' app that apparently offers voicemail text transcription. Was hoping this would have been included on the Sense 6.0 update for the M7 which just rolled out, but it wasn't. I'm literally thinking of upgrading to the M8 just to get ths HTC Visual Voicemail app. Can anyone confirm that the HTC Visual Voicemail M8 transcribes voicemail just like (or hopefully better than) the AT&T Messages app used to? If so, why would anyone with an M8 want to install AT&T Messages anymore?

I can't really compare to the regular at&t messages vs the new htc visual voicemail/messages all in one app - but I was pleasantly surprised to have this feature for free where as I used to have to pay sprint $2.99 a month. Having said that the transcriptions don't really do well - I'd say almost 50% of the words from all the VM's I've received have been improperly transcribed making it almost impossible to get the gist of what the caller was trying to say, so I have to listen to the VM anyway. Not sure if this is on par with what the original ATT messages app did or better or worse.
http://att.com/htcvvm
Based on this article, text transcription of voicemail is included at no additional charge, or at least on the HTC One (M8).
I believe voicemail transcription is/was $2.99/mo with AT&T Visual Voicemail on other devices, while it was a free feature of AT&T Messages.
It took a couple different techs, but I was finally able to get the AT&T Messages feature removed off of my account and HTC Visual Voicemail working on my M8. The test voicemails I've had so far seem to be transcribed at about the same accuracy as AT&T Messages.

AT&T Messages was still transcribing voicemail for me. I have now switched over to HTC Visual Voicemail, which seems to transcribe voicemail at least equally as well.
One possible benefit that AT&T Messages has over HTC Visual Voicemail is I think the former backed up your content to the cloud, because you could wipe your phone (or go to a new phone) and when you set up AT&T Messages, it would sync up everything. (Although not with 100% accuracy; some MMS messages would be lost, and some SMS messages are just restored as phone calls.) As far as I can tell, HTC Visual Voicemail is just a front-end for your voicemailbox, and SMS/MMS is stored locally. There is an option to Backup SMS (only) to SD card.
Anyone know how to get ATT Messages working with Wifi only?
I'm abroad right now and want to use this app for texting.
We can send and receive texts through a computer (messages.att.net) but on the Android app, you can't send or receive a text through Wifi.
It will not work via wifi, states this on AT&T website as well,it needs cellular signal to work properly
So I like a lot of the roms out there that I've tried. But my biggest thing on most is Verizon's stupid VoiceMail app... Most of them don't have it installed and the copy of the app I have found usually doesn't work or crashes non-stop after I install it from TWRP.
I know there's YouMail (I think that's what it's called.) but I wasn't a big fan.
Is there either a way to stop getting the garbled text message when not using the verizon app or what?
I've noticed that if I don't use a rom with the Voicemail app I either don't get Voicemails or I get the garbled text message and it still doesnt' really work correctly.
I get my voicemail thru Google voice, but I also use the vzw messages+ app so no garbled texts. Well other then some rather humorous renderings of a computer program having problems figuring out some Oklahoma and Texas accents.

Yep you should be able to install the My Verizon app from play store. If not use http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ and sideload it.
Youmail sucks because of their horrible contact sync. It messes everything up. However someone made a different app for the service called Better Youmail and it is phenomenal!

Jasmine ROM and Visual Voice Mail.
Flawless.
If anyone is on an AOSP ROM and getting funky SMS messages instead of voicemail notifications:
Condition:
You are running without Verizon VVM "Messaging" app installed.
Symptoms:
When someone leaves a voicemail, you get a SMS message with a bunch of header info. The message starts with //VVMMMS... and usually includes the caller's number somewhere in the string.
You do not get a standard notification of a voicemail (no envelope in the notifications and/or status bar.
Information:
It is likely that your account is setup for Basic Visual Voicemail. The messages that you are receiving are push control messages that stock-installed Verizon apps would pick up and use to generate their own notifications. Since VVM is not installed, they come across as regular SMS messages.
Verizon has 3 different voicemail offerings at present: Voicemail, Basic Visual Voicemail, and Premium Visual Voicemail; the latter is usually a paid service. Based on which is included with your account/line, they determine how the notification should be sent; the app is a key component in the proprietary service.
Solution:
You may contact Verizon at their support 800 number and go through the prompts to get technical support. When you get there, ask them to change your voicemail setting to "IMS Voicemail" instead of "IMS Visual Voicemail Basic." This should allow you to get the standard notification and call *86 when you tap it. Keep in mind that this is something done on the carrier's side, so if you decide to install VVM or use a stock ROM that includes it, the functionality will not be there. If the paid service was included as part of your contract, you may have some difficulty in getting them to change the setting back to "IMS VVM Basic" without an additional fee.
If you install hangouts, you can configure your voicemail to go to the hangouts app. Not only will it transcribe it so you can read it, you can play it right from a thread like an sms message.
It's very neat.
I use Google Voice and have been for a few years. I like the fact they transcribe the voicemail for you. Also, anytime someone leaves a voicemail or I get a missed call, i get an email on my gmail account. The missed call emails are a life saver especially when the phone never rings to notify you of a missed call to start with which has happened to me a couple of times. You can also text and make phone calls from the Google Voice app as well.

It wasn't horrible, I just didn't like having an app like that. I know everything we do even on our phones is being watched/stored somewhere by someone most likely.
But I just didn't like having yet another party having access to my things. It worked, setting up the voicemail message with a slight pain for a bit till I got it working right.
The notifications worked, people didn't have issues leaving me messages etc. It worked is the main thing. I just personally didn't care for it.
Now that I'm back to using plain voicemail without the visual VM etc I'm happy with that.
Hello,
Throughout the years I was occasionally trying to get the native Samsung voicemail app to working with T-Mobile on U1 devices.
After my latest attempts I understood that the app's functionality and visibility at first place are determined by CSC code of the device. If I change CSC from TMB to XAA - the voicemail app appears in app drawer, but thinks that I have Google Fi service.
Question is - is there any chance that the app's logic can be modified to make it work properly on TMB csc code?
I just really hate the T-Mobile\Metro voicemail apps due to their bugs and overall clunkiness.
Attached is the VVM app by Samsung. I did try to check accessible '"activities" of the app through app manager, but it seems like they are not quite accessible although they have fancy names like "TMOSetupActivity".
Hello, any news about this please?
I tried your apk, like you I can't start app or see mvv on native dialer.
Thanks for this. I use google fi and didn't have visual voice mail. Now I do thanks to your app. The visual voice mail app now shows up and picks up voice mails and even shows the text version of them and I can play them directly on the phone without having to call myself or rely on Fi sending me text messages of the voice mails.
Note that this didn't do anything with the phone dialer though. Neither the stock or google dialer. So there's no quick link or tab to get to visual voice mail from there.
Bump, would like to use stock visual voicemail as well
