I'm used to having my Android phones use apps like KinScreen or Gravity Screen to keep my screen on by motion. On my new Mate 10 (ALP-L29 8.0.0.119 (C636) I'm finding that no matter what I do, the phone's setting for display on time always control, even though I've excepted out both apps from battery optimization and from automatic control of their launch (manually set to run in the background). Anyone experience the same issue or have any thoughts? I don't know if this is an Oreo problem or a Miui one. Thx.
I am having the same issues, no matter what, with persistent notification active, the screen does not stay awake with kinscreen. Installed Wakey, seems to be working at least sometimes... Should be based on your eyes watching the screen...
According to TecTiq, the maker of KinScreen, it's a Miui problem. I'm not the only one to report it. Oh well....
One other possibility is to set your default screen timeout to something long, and then install Proximity Service, which seems to work well on the Mate 10 and turns on and off your screen by covering the proximity sensor. Creates a permanent notification, but installing AutoNotification cures that (as well as the other running notifications, like background Android processes, that you don't want).
EDIT: Nope, belay that! Once the phone sleeps, Proximity Service is still killed (even if excepted from Launch and Battery Optimization). Back to the drawing board....
Hi,
I have noticed a bug where alarm does not give neither audible nor visual notification while do not disturb mode is on with alarms exception. This was tested on 119 and 128 firmware.
Could anyone test this for me so I know this is not just me?
Regards
Mario

Working fine here on 124 UK firmware.
Have you altered a setting in this screen?
Thanks mad.jack10 for testing this.
I have the same setting as yours. Did you test it while the screen was off?

Yeah screen was off, phone was charging.
Do you use ambient display? I don't

Yes I do, however it does not make any difference if I switch it off. I have reset the clock app even
UPDATE: OK, clearing the cache partition seems to fix the issue

On my side, since few days, on my new MATE10PRO, the alarm notification is always SET ON event if I've no alarm set...I've set ALARM off and on, I've resetted clock app, I've cleared cache partition...nothing works. Do you have any idea ?
Use the Google Clock (download from PlayStore). instead of the native Huawei alarm clock. Make sure you enable all the battery settings under battery / start, enable all the notifications (including making it a priority app) and disable battery optimizations under apps / special access.
Too much work for a simple alarm functionality!! I just got a Mate 10 pro. Not set it up yet. Going through the threads make me wonder if I made the right decision.
Huawei has always been and still kinda is about great hardware (or alternatively good hardware for not so much money) but weird software. Some software features are really great (better than stock Android even: screenshots, gestures, plenty of options in the settings, display color modes, app lock, one handed navigation etc.) but others are just worse than on other phones (e.g. lack of all the smart unlock options, battery saving features preventing widgets from updating or apps from staying open etc., lockscreen notifications not expanding etc). You really have to pay attention to the settings with Huawei phones, especially if its about power saving features because they tend to close apps rather than keeping them open. One thing that EMUI already does better than pretty much any other system (Samsung, LG etc. - except Stock Android) is that it's very smooth and fast and stays fast for a very long time (unlike Samsung phones). Hope this helps with deciding whether you want to keep the phone.
Hey guys,
Just got my Mate 10 pro (BLA-29) Dual sim a few days ago and I am loving it!
Have updated it to the latest Android 8.0 and EMUI 8.0.
However instantly within the first hour of using the phone I noticed a strange issue or bug? Where you can be on the homescreen and the screen will be nice and bright, jump into any app it can be Chrome, whats app, Firefox even Youtube or Google Maps and instantly within 2 seconds or so the screen will dim a little, go back to homescreen or switch between apps and the screen will brighten, but then dim again after 2 or so seconds.
Have looked all over for any adaptive brightness, turned off auto brightness and any battery saver and nada, still dims.
The only difference is it doesn't happen if you whack the brightness up full, then the brightness level doesn't dim. So what gives??
Also while I have your attention, will Huawei ever allow us to Lock the phone to 4G/LTE only mode? Or do we need root for this?
Thanks for reading, I hope someone has an answer for me as I love this phone!

Known issue with brightness auto.
It's an IA thing which change brightness depending on your environment
I agree... I posted a topic about this a while ago... dims slightly with chrome, facebook etc.. isn't much that can be done about it.
I'm guessing it's to prolong the screen life (?), because these apps use predominantly white backgrounds ... but don't really know for sure...
Huawei claims this is a bug affecting every device running EMUI 5.1 and above. The standard Mate 10 also does this and so does the Honor View 10. Highly annoying. I actually sold my Mate 10 after three days largely due to this issue.
I was really excited for the Honor View 10 until I saw it also suffers from it. A fix should be simple but clearly isn't a priority.
Looks like i'll be switching to the Galaxy S9+ because of this - it's super annoying especially in sunlight - very noticeable then.
My screen does not change brightness level when using Chrome...I do not use Facebook. Non-pro version here with LCD.
mine also doing this as well for me its fine but some games it also does this not only my screen dim a little fps also drops!! and its very annoying
I confirm this behaviour on my Mate 10 Pro. Very annoying.
I have a P20 Pro and it does the same (all Huawei with Amoled does this I belive). If I enable auto brightness it seems to stop doing it. Only at manual brightness it keept doing it in certain apps.
I lurked around different sites about this problem and found this to work for me on my Mate 10 Pro. You can test it out yourself and see if it helps
1. Turn-off Power Saving Mode
2. Go to System > Developer Options > Increase Readability Under Sunlight> Toggle Off
3. Then make sure to restart your phone and open your apps (like Chrome) to see if it's still auto-dimming
Hi,
I returned my mate 10 pro because of the dimming issues as was very annoying.
I am planning to get p20 pro instead. Does p20 pro have the exact same issue despite EMUI 8.1?

I have heard of it on youtube.
this is no bug though. this "feature" has been around for years and huawei does not admit it. they alwas say its a bug and they gonna fix it but the p9 had this issure already.
Some argue that this is some sneaky way to cheat better battery life and less heating. We all know that the Kirin processor lags behind the others, it can only provide high performance for a short period after 5 min it overheats and gets thermothrottled

Can confirm my Huawei Mate 10 Pro, with BLA-L29 8.0.0.145 (C432) also dims the display when using different apps, among them the SMS/MMS app, WhatsApp, Chrome Browser and the built in Notepad app.
As well as dimming the display when »Auto Brightness« is disabled, »Auto Brightness« is automaticly enabled every time the phone is turned on and off, so not possible to permanently disable »Auto Brightness«.
Sent my phone to be repaired or fixed, and was told that the automatic enabling of »Auto Brightness« is a battery saving feature ...
Regarding the problem with dimming in certain apps, it's supposed to be fixed in a later update ... Just wonder when will that actually be ...

Previous owner of P9 with this screen-dimming feature. I own Mate 10 right now (C636 134noxloader build) and Mate 10 doesn't have this screen dimming at all, I tried chrome, youtube, and all my other apps, it never dims.

Just an update.
Wrote to Huawei Norway, and yesterday got an email telling me that Huawai is aware of the issue and it's on their list, and is to be fixed, as far as they know, in late July or August.
/ Alex / Norway /
No, its november and nothing changed, now a huawei mate 20 pro have that bug too.
This is common amongst all EMUI devices (I think) and it is fixed by freezing or otherwise disabling the Power Genius app. If rooted, you can use Titanium Backup or Service Disabler to do this. If you're not rooted, you might or might not be able to do it via adb.
This is a battery optimization feature, and not an auto brightness bug.

got the mate 20 pro and also noticed screen dimming issues, but after trying your fix, it seemed to magically fixed itseld.. still testing it but even i toggle on the Increase Readability under sunlight, it just went away
I got my Poco last week with bootloader open and right away started with custom roms. I first put Pixel Experience (like i had on my RN5pro and it was great) but i find it doesn't run as well on poco.
Then i went to Nitrogen and now im on LOS16 for the past couple days getting aroun 8-9hrs SOT.
My question is was i too quick to change to custom? anything im missing from MIUI? I stayed with MIUI on RN5 for a while but got pissed because all notifications were late(if the every came at all), i used Sakis debloat tool so dint have bloatware but still felt spied on.
Anyway should i flash MIUI? Goals are long SOT, moderate gaming (hour pubg every now n then). Change my mind.
I'm actually happy with MIUI10, kept the bloat apps too, but it's obviously up to your preferences.
RAM and security management is quite aggressive.
My only real problem is notifications being really badly presented. Though I've just received my Mi Band which shows notifications and is really useful.
No harm in trying it.

you will miss faceunlock via ir camera - afaik only miui (+ miui mods like miui eu / globe ) offer support for it since its a custom manufacture introduced feature and afaik not open source.
iam currently on miui eu (honestly the only mod i tryed) + first android but i don´t really see ads or anything else thats bugs me.

Can you describe the notifications? i remember my RN5 with miui 10 even I wouldnt always get on lockscreen notifications and then if i open the phone the notifications disappear (i did everything, enable auto start, background, lock screen, everything). I would even test it with my gfs phone and it would take like 5-10 mins to get a fb notification or something. Whatsapp always worked though. I mean if theres no notifications whats the point.

I haven't actually missed many notifications at all. If you bring down the notification bar they can be viewed. One app where notifications have never worked (even when removing all restrictions) is my home security system but that's an issue with the way the app handles notifications, it does work flawlessly on my Samsung devices though so definitely an issue with MIUI.
My other issue with MIUI is that it doesn't always display the icons in the upper left of the notification bar and only shows them for a few seconds. I believe they are working on this for a future update.
Not everything shows on the lock screen unless you enable it in the settings under "other permissions". That is actually a feature I like since I've only enabled lock screen notifications with specific apps. You may need to enable the permissions or disable the restrictions with certain apps.

Here's my perspective on MIUI 10...It is buggy!!! Below 3 issues are showstoppers for me:
1. Inconsistent notifications in lock screen.
2. DND doesn't work, infact i have no idea what implementation they have for it. I could only distinguish between loud and silent.
3. App permissions keeps resetting - I will have to re-enable permissions from time to time to use them.
After 6 months of MIUI bull**** for the first time in 4 years I am going to flash a custom ROM. Better stick to custom ROM, stock sucks although its aesthetically beautiful.
I'm fine with MIUI eu beta with custom kernel. I need system audio recording because I play and record games and split screen is better than aosp. Notification is fine for me I just disable MIUI battery savings per app that important. There is no best or worst it all depends on how you use your phone.
The best u will get between performance and bettery life its on miui rom i am on 9.1.7 i got 10+ of sot and if u like aosp the best is crdroid rom will give great battery lifr also but less performance in gaming side. In my off i use my phone all day keeping youtube playlist always on and alot of browsing and playing brawl stars on the end of the day i highly recommend u to give miui a try
For all of you having problems with notifications.. I guess I found a solution. At least, it works for me.
I always complained like you. Either late notifications or no notifications at all.
All that stuff is because of the aggressive standard-settings in the battery saving settings.
You go to settings -> battery -> choose apps -> select your app, you want to get notifications -> select no restrictions.
Ofcourse, you have to set autostart for those apps and setup the notifications importance to high/urgent.
You get the same battery life i guess, so feel free to do that stuff in the battery settings.
Hit thanks if it worked for you.
Some good point here! What about the Xiaomi. Eu rom ? How dire it compare to stock performance wise?

I own a RN5 too (Xiaomi.eu ROM) and I did that and I started getting all the notifications.
eBay notifications (for example) came literally never.
After the stuff I meantioned above, everything started to work as it should.
My Pocophone arrived 1 hour ago and I'm setting it up right now and will to the same and report.
But since its MIUI 10 too (although Pie), it should work!

Will do!
I am fine with Miui 10 global beta with Franco kernel and other root stuff. My Pocophone is a work phone and I don't trust the custom ROMs yet.
I also don't debloat, otherwise it's no longer a MIUI , but I freeze user or system apps I don't use. And the suggestion by another about using Battery saving section (and autostart) to manage Doze should help in not missing notifications. I never miss notifications, but I don't use social apps, only normal calls, sms, GBWhatsApp.
MIUI is a personal taste. I've tried other ROMs on my other phones, they all are similar. Most of their features I can have using apps, and even better, while staying with MIUI global beta, which is updated constantly compared to stable.
I disable Miui optimization in developer options though, a habit of mine since the early days of MIUI
I also like EMUI by Huawei. It is so similar to MIUI on my Huawei
P.S. I don't enable notifications on lock screen, I don't want to answer some immediately. I have configured contacts that I must answer quickly to have their own notification sound.
.
Hello, I recently bought Redmi Note 11s to upgrade from my old Blackview which is running Android 7. After turning the phone on I updated to MIUI 13.0.1 and debloated the phone using UAD. As a side note I don't think debloating is related to this at all.
Now my issue with the phone is that I don't get proper notifications, it's really easy to miss phone calls or messages because there is no blinking notification. My phone usually is in silent mode and often I just leave my phone on my desk. AOD also doesn't work as it should, what I mean by that is that it should stay on when call is missed or if there is a message that is unseen. It doesn't do that.
I can have AOD working if I disable MIUI optimizations but that is not ideal, nor I actually want my screen to always be turned on and draining battery. I did try using black background with everything disabled, so it would only show white thingy on the screen when there are notifications. Which worked alright, but battery seems to be draining quite a bit faster with MIUI optimizations disabled.
Also I don't like the idea of using third party apps to be able to get some sort of better notifications, on top of that third party apps really want to collect a lot of your data which is silly. I am not a dev or anything but I would assume such apps should only be allowed to add notifications based on information what is given by notifications service in the phone. And it shouldn't have access to individual apps that receive messages or phone calls.
As for pop up / floating window notifications, these don't seem to work at all with MIUI 13.0.1.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.
How did you figure it out. I also need notifications on the lock screen, but I haven't found a workable and reliable solution yet
I had the same problem, it's strange that since there is an option to turn on the Notification Effect in the settings, it will only work once (it's some software junk)
So I installed LED Blinker Notification - and even that works, I tested NotifyBuddy but the first one suited me better.
