Hi,
I need help locating the path to a bookmarks file that I installed on my motoX4 SD card.
On my Galaxy Tab running android 4.4.2 it's a simple process. My Files app> SD memory card > click on the file 'bookmarks.html' > open file with my choice of browser. Within the browser (Naked pro) I then bookmark that location, which looks like this:
file:///storage/extSdCard/bookmarks.html
On my motoX4 (xt1900-1) running android 7.1.1 I'm only given the option to open that file with Chrome (which I normally don't use) or html viewer. When I copy the file that appears in Chrome [ content://com.android.externalstorage.documents/document/0000-0000%3Abookmarks.html ] to different browsers, I get the message, net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
What I'm looking for is a 'good' path to my bookmarks on the motox4 sd card that I can paste into my preferred browsers, Naked pro & DuckDuckGo

Hi,
I would like to open a *.html file from my SD card with Chrome.
With Opera it is : "file://localhost/mnt/extSdcard/Myfolder/myfile.html"
With the native browser it is "file://mnt/extSdcard/Myfolder/myfile.html"
I have tried with Chrome many possibilities but it doesn't work.
Any idea please.

I don't know. Try open it when you browse your files with a file manager.

Try : "file:///localhost/mnt/extSdcard/Myfolder/myfile.html" with three "/" after "file:".
On my laptop (running Archlinux and Chromium), to open file I have try "file:///localhost/home/*myuseraccount*/*myfilename*.txt" and it works.

I tried to open the sd-card and it denied the access, but I could open the downloads folder. I don't know exactly why but it doesn't matter. The main thing is that the link is workin

Using ES File Explorer on my XPERIA Z1, choosing Open As > Other > Chrome Beta, I get the following URL:
"file:///sdcard/Download/file.html"
As long as the file is on the internal storage, and not on an SD card, the page will open.
Otherwise i get a page stating "Access to the file was denied. ERR_ACCESS_DENIED

Having the file on the internal storage (i.e. the phone / device) and not an external storage (SD card) worked for me also.
FOR OTHERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES:
Generally Android browsers do not allow viewing of files on the external media card (SD card) for security reasons (e.g.. a malicious website could read/write to your SD card). Directory browsing is also prohibited. So if you try to load a page it may give the option to open the file using its HTML viewer - which isn't as fully functional as a browser (and no good for simple web page design testing).
Placing the file on the device's internal storage (e.g. in Download folder) and opening the URL link in the browser (e.g. file:///sdcard/Download/file.html †) will open the HTML file in the browser normally.
†Despite "sdcard" being in the name, "file:///sdcard/Download/file.html" is actually a path to the internal device storage. (The device's internal storage is an emulated SD card for technical reasons). An external SD card path is usually "extSDcard" or similar - but the browser will not load it due to the security restrictions mentioned.
Neat trick to get a file from sdcard using web browser.
Have a web browser but not a file manager, have files you want to access on your sdcard but can't with out a file manager. Always make sure to have a file manager on your sdcard so you can use the following to install it even with out a web connection or a file browser
Type in your web browser:

Should work with any file to download the file and you can then install it. Should show up in downloads after you type the exact file location.
This trick saved me when I had no web connections data or WiFi to download from the play store, but had a file manager on my phone
Verizon Galaxy Note 3, up-to-date, stock ROM, not rooted.
I have a 64gb MicroSD card installed, and put a copy of my photography website on it. I find I am unable to figure out a way to open it in Google Chrome.
I used ES File Explorer's FTP function to begin with, to copy files from my website to the card, and this worked beautifully. When I click on the index.html file on the card, the only options offered are HTML Viewer and some text editors. Chrome is not an option (Chrome is the default browser for my phone). I can try "Open as" and choose Chrome, but get the same error message as below.
If I long-press the file, and select Properties, I can copy the (full) Path for the file, but when I paste this into Chrome's URL bar, it won't open:
Access to the file was denied
"The file at file:///storage/extSdCard/PhotoWebsite/index.html is not readable. It may have been removed, moved, or file permissions may be preventing access"
I have searched quite a bit, and tried various addresses, including localhost, localhost/mnt, content:, etc., etc., but nothing seems to work.
Ultimately I want to have a Bookmark in Chrome where I can view my website offline when necessary, but this seems to be more complex than would appear necessary.
Any help appreciated.
Seriously? Is there no way to accomplish what should be a fairly basic task: for a browser to open up an html file???
I have no idea on how to do that. I want to import them at my PC, anyway of doing this? Thank you!
There is a way to sinc your cookies through chrome on your phone then sinc it on the chrome browser for your computer as one way. Another way but not sure if it will work is to go into your "Android" file and into the "data" file and find the browser and open the folder. Navigate to the cookies folder and copy them to a USB or SD card that your computer can read and then place them into the browser cookie files on the computer by going through the AppData folder to the browser files, and eventually finding the cookie folder and copying the files over.

If your phone is rooted you can find your cookies in data->data->com.android.chrome->app_chrome->Default->Cookies
It is an sql file and I couldn't find an easy way to get it into chrome. In my case I was looking to specifically move facebook cookies, so I was able to query the database with:

Pixel 3A (Sargo), Android 11 Oct update.
Rooted with Magisk (MM 8.0.2, Magisk 21 beta channel).
System-less hosts module, Adaway root mode.
Google app, Files by Google and many other google bloatware disabled (not removed, just disabled).
I have always used "OI Notepad" for my notes and for simple text editing on small files (plain txt, of course).
To view and search within the text (txt or htm files) I have been using Dolphin Browser as well.
PROBLEM:
Since the update to A11, Dolphin and OI Notepad seem unable to access internal storage.
If I try to open a txt file from the root if internal storage (/storage/emulated/0) or any sub-folder (/storage/emulated/0/download), both the apps fail. OI Notepad just closes, Dolphin shows the "page unavailable" message, with the address bar changing to "data:text/html;charset=utf-8;base64,"
WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR:
1) Disable Ad-away. Maybe it was interfering with the address passed to the app by the file system (localhost:// ???)
2) Passed the command "adb shell cmd appops set package-name android:legacy_storage allow", found on another thread, related to scoped storage.
3) Tried to give all possible permissions to OI Notepad and Dolphin.
4) Reinstalled Files by Google and tried to "open with" from there.
5) Used the Dolphin internal file manager (downloads/file manager) and navigate to the file, then try to open.
NOTE:
I can still save files in the internal storage. OI Notepad can "save to SD card" a note, in txt format.
Dolphin can save images or downloaded files.
Well, so far, no success.
Any of you has an idea about WHY this happens and a possible SOLUTION?
