Hi folks,
I was travelling in Western China recently and on the way out both the police took and immigration officials took my Galaxy S5 (unrooted) and had their way with it.
What I know:
- the police connected my phone to a wifi network and used an app called "mobile hunter", which seemed to be taking all the files off the phone (the screen on the device the police had said "retrieving x of 9xxx files")
- the immigration officials took down my lockscreen password and took the phone out of my sight for about an hour
- when I got the phone back from police there were 5 notifications saying APKs had been installed
- when I got the phone back from immigration there was one notification saying an APK had been installed
- the Samsung Internet app had been opened by the Police, but there was no browsing history
- the police took down my IMEI and SIM details
- my phone was connected to WiFi networks both times when I got it back.
Basically, I'm wondering what steps I should take before feeling like I can use my phone (relatively) securely again. Changing all passwords and flashing a new Android ROM sound like sensible steps, but are there any others? Or am I worrying too much?
Thanks

Hi everyone - I actually don't know who else to ask but this issue has been driving me mental for the last couple of months. After days and nights of investigating and looking through various forums and articles, I think I can find (or try at least) the words to describe my problem more...technically))
So OK, first off the device is Huawei Ascend G510-0100 running KitKat under the Cyanogenmod platform but the issue was already present with the factory's 4.1 ROM. I thought rooting the phone, installing just brand-new everything and having a bloatware/clutter-free Android OS would rectify all the causes of this nightmare but no. I'm not the only one with this problem: Google-search the issue and you'll find numerous forum threads where users seek for a solution to this "software loophole" as well as one of my friends (Galaxy S2) and another one with the HTC One X+ so I rule out my phone's model, OS version or just my device being faulty from the list of potential causes.
So - every time I turn my WiFi off on purpose or when I go out of my house (where logically my phone looses home's wireless signal) - the location services and the app synchronization processes stumble, mess up, run into and furthermore cause internal system mess-ups from such "unexpected" losts of internet. After that I can't make a phone call, send SMS or run USSD codes (checking credit balance etc) but I can still receive calls and texts - basically I fail to reach my cellular services but the service can still reach me. Turning Airplane Mode on and then off or simply restarting the phone altogether temporary fixes the cellular problem until the next time the internet becomes unreachable to Play Services. I tried turning location and sync off, tried different location/sync options...I wish I could disable Play Services but then I wouldn't be able to use the Play Store - | tried messing around with probably every single option available and possible but the Play Services still failed me and.......I honestly don't know what am I missing and where to look next
Edit: (I never use the mobile data btw)
Any suggestions? Anybody? I'm hopeless at this point :crying:
Thank you all...
...
Anyone? Please...
So first of: This is not phone or android version or even firewall-app specific because I've had the problem on previous phones and I know other people who also have this problem.
I'm running a firewall with a whitelist and obviously WhatsApp has Wi-Fi and mobile data allowed. It generally works. I can send and receive messages and media.
But if I put my phone away for a longer period of time (I think around 15 minutes or more) I no longer receive messages until I open WhatsApp.
So for some reason WhatsApp can't establish a connection when the phone is in sleep (or whatever it's called).
I verified this with another person who had the same problem. Turned off firewall and put the phone away for an hour or more, then sent a message and it arrived instantly. Worked for both phones.
I'm guessing that I need to give some other app internet access so WhatsApp receive messages while the phone is in sleep.
P.S: No, it's not that the notifications aren't showing up, it's not some battery saver, I did some research before and no suggested solution worked. Except for turning off the firewall (the 3-4 messages we sent for testing all worked perfectly fine), but since I came up with this idea myself, there was no thread to get some info about it and I didn't really find anything using google (though I found it hard to word the search).
Hello
Firstly i want to wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!
Then, the issue for which i need the help/advice of a specialist in android field:
Recently i bought a huawei P30 lite and from time to time i receive the EMUI update notification.
Well, to get rid of that i tried:
-to go to settings in the emui updater and disable the auto download over wifi option, disabling its permission to use phone and force stop it
-not to connect to WIFI and just use the mobile data (because i have a unlimited data traffic over 4G/LTE network)
-to use the network access option under data usage tab in wireless&networks to completely shut off the access to internet for software update as well as android os and some other associated apps
All of my attempts failed, still, from time to time the update popup is still showing on my screen.
My phone is bought new from a local computer&accessories store, so it doesn't "belong" to any carrier, my carrier is RDS&RCS S.A (and it does not have any "preferences" regarding phone software).
Why i don't want to update? Before i had a samsung galaxy J7 2017, initially it came with android 7.0 from factory, it worked perfectly until it received updates...android 8.1 then android 9.0, and despite regular maintenance it began to run slow and eating up battery faster than it did, while heating up sometimes without reason (sign of some memory&CPU intensive software after the update) same thing as i heard apple do to iphones and ipads to determine people to buy new devices every year. Also i'm not a smartphone enthusiast and i'm not interested in "exciting new features/exciting new look" updates can bring, i only use it as a phone and pocket PC.
How i can get rid of that without root?(my phone's in warranty and i don't want to void it)
Or at least can somebody explain me how the updater app access the internet with all the restrictions i've put in its way?(maybe there are associated processes i didn't blocked)
Thanks
Hello everyone,
Sony Xperia 1 III (QX-BC52)
I found two problems or bugs:
1. PROBLEM WITH MOBILE DATA:
This problem does not occur on the wifi network, but only when the phone uses mobile data. I will also send you a couple of different videos that I recorded with the screen record application so you can see exactly how the problem occurs.
First, for about ten days, I noticed that the icon from 4g was disappearing from time to time, and then I tried for days to find the problem and to see when and why it disappears at times and somehow I succeeded in that. This problem is present in all applications when a video is played and the sound is turned up to maximum, as soon as the sound is reduced to about half of the icons with mobile data (4g) do not disappear and the mobile data transfer works normally without interruption, or only press pause for fix this bug.
I will upload one or two videos in link bellow with situation when I show this bugs:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/vyc7r3
I will share list with all the applications in which this problem occurs that I have personally tested:
- Viber during video calls (occasionally)
- YouTube (every time)
- Facebook (every time)
- Instagram (every time)
In addition to this problem, I noticed that when downloading applications on the 4g network, sometimes the applications are downloaded quite slowly if we keep in mind that the phone downloads them on the 4g network. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to download a 20mb application and sometimes ten seconds, in both situations the signal is full.
2. PROBLEM WITH MOBILE NETWORK:
It also occurs frequently in areas where the phone mainly uses the 2G network, then the connection is often interrupted during the conversation, and therefore also during that period the phone cannot establish a connection, it throws out the message that there is no network even though the area is covered by the network.
I am noticing the same problem, so looks like its a problem with this update. Nothing to do with a particular region or carrier it seems.

My Sony Xperia 1 III is a model for the European market, and a friend has the same phone, but his model is for the Asian market. Both mine and his phone have the same android version and the same software version and he has the same problem, so it doesn't matter what market the phone is made. I tried with another operator's sim card, but the problem is still there. The problem is obviously in the software.
Yea i notice that too. i thought my sim card was bad. f###K after i just made the decision to say on a12..
My XQ-BC62 does it too. When there's loud midrange, LTE drops and the cell indicator flickers. Logcat is so junked up during playback that I don't even know what to look for.
If I output a square wave 22Khz sound, the audio power scales up and down and cellular cycles on and off. It seems like part of the phone is out of power and it's not managed well.
This is an incredibly stupid fault but good to know about. The last thing this phone needs is even more cellular drops.
Im having a problem right now, not entirely sure what exact market my Xperia 1/iii (XQ-BC72) is from, i think Oceanic? As i live in New Zealand but at the moment and for the last week and a half or so i havent been able to make calls and texts either fail a few times then send or take forever to send, its really annoying me cos i also have to use my phone for work, and when i cant make or receive calls most the time it sucks! Aswell as it will say "Calling" when i have Signal Bars, but wont make dail sound/go through or it'll just fail!
I bought new phone Blackview bv 8800.
Great phone, but missing some things, which I have on old phone.
- built in call recorder(tryed some app from google play - not working)
- big % battery in status bar.
I didn't find any custom rom for this device. Anybody know?
after more than one month I have problem with wifi.
suddenly cant connect to my home wifi.
To yesterday was working fine without any problem with the sam settings.
My SSID is hidden, but other phone work with hidden ssid. This phone also copule days ago. I have no change with router setting or phone settings.
What can I do?
