Since updating to Oreo, every so often (maybe once and hour) a notification sound goes off for apparently no reason. I have notification reminders off so it's not that. I've turned off most notifications as well, except for important ones like sms or email. It's annoying and if sounds are off and vibrate turned on it will vibrate instead but still nothing on the status bar. Does anyone know what's going on and/or how I can solve this annoyance?
Yes Im experiencing this as well. It seems like it may be related to gmail but I'm not sure. The new notification settings are confusing and don't seem to work at least for that app.
I may have found the reason. The new power saving "feature" may be the culprit. It seems to sound an alert every time it sleeps an app not whitelisted. Probably one of the stupidest pieces of coding ever. I caught a notification in the bar of like an ekg line when it happened. But get this it immediately disappears. So if you dont catch it you have now idea why you're being alerted. Go in to maintenance and switch all off or whatever you think is appropriate and it should stop. However the random vibration alerts I can't figure out. Ill get them for apps I dont have them set for but sporadically like instagram. And then on next sms which I have it specifically set notvto vibrate. Hope this helps.

I think I may have a clue: I have a Gear Fit. My Note 8 vibrates when it sends an alert to my Gear Fit.
In my case, because I can hardly notice the notification vibration on my Gear Fit, but hear it clearly when my Note 8 is resting on a hard surface, it took me a while to make the connection.
Now to find a way to disable this behavior....
My S8 sends me a text notification EVERY morning at 3:49 AM!!!! There is never a text message. I have turned off everything that I can but it still keeps happening! HELP

theres an app called "notification history" that will track it for you. Might be the charger full indication.
Check my previous threads.

It usually pops up in the middle of the night and can be pretty annoying. Any way to disable it?
Currently there is no full fix. This is the closest I have gotten: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748400&highlight=battery+popup
Why remove it? I find it very useful, nvm read wrong

yeah this is very annoying... has there been further development of a fix(REMOVE!) for this?!?!
If you have JI6 update already applied you will notice that they changed that annoying pop up to a simple notification which shows up in the status bar when battery is fully charged.
That is definitely an improvement for me.
Definitely NOT an improvement for me. I need to be able to be alerted at night when an SMS message comes in when I am on call, and really don't want to be woken up because my battery is charged. There really should have been a way to disable the it alone, not move it to something if you disable, you no longer will hear SMS, alarms, event,... notifications.
This worked for me. Read through all of the threads so you are confident what to do. Main thing is to flash the correct one and wipe the cache and dalvik-cache first.

I did find a good way to get around this problem, at least for me. Set the global Notification ringtone to Silent, then change the Ringtone on Messaging to something you want for texts and same for email. Then the battery charge won't make a sound, and I will still be notified on text messages and/or emails.
The only 'solution' I've found is to do as others have said, disable generic notification sounds, and in applications-development set it so screen does not stay on while charging. The popup still happens, but there's no sound and the screen times out after my setting of 2 minutes. This is lame because when I use it in the car for music, plugged in, I want the screen to stay on all the time. Epic 4g
I have a stock Vibrant running 2.1. I like to have audible notifications for text messages, etc., but not for new emails. I get a lot of email at all hours and I prefer not to hear my notification tone multiple times a night in the wee hours whenever a new junk message comes in. So, is there a fix for this on a stock phone? I've looked through the Settings: if there's something there to manage the various types of notifications separately, I've missed it. Any suggestions other than turning notification sound off completely?
I thought this was a pretty basic question when I posted it. Out of all the smart folks who hang out here, nobody knows the answer?
go through the settings on your email app and turn off notifications or select your ringtone as "silent" for the app
or u can use "no led " app and use its features to silent wht u want..

brilliant app just for vibrant

Thanks a lot (and my light sleeper of a wife thanks you). The fix seems obvious when you mention it, but I'm not sure it would ever have dawned on me. That took care of my issue.

Thanks to you, as well. NoLED looks like a clever app, and I'll give it a try for certain notifications.
I am having this problem with my phone. Every time I set the phone ring volume, after a while (30-60 minutes) I suddenly hear my phone vibrate and then it automatically on its own goes into silent mode with silent icon appearing in the top bar. It is very annoying to keep checking my phone to see if it has not gone into silent mode.
Any idea what may be causing this. I cannot find in anything in the settings to enable or disable this.
please help!
I am getting tired of my phone automatically turning the ringer off and going into silent mode after emitting a short pulse vibration (like in notification) while sitting on my desk every few hours.

got this tip from an user on Android Central:
There is a settings tweak in the Power Save mode to toggle vibrations. I think the default is no vibrations.
I will give this a try now.

Thank you for the tip. I want to say that I love this phone....however, given its rounded back shape, the vibration was especially loud and annoying. I had been looking for ways to disable all vibration but didn't realize the power saving mode was the culprit. Now, I wont jump out of my chair every time I get a notification. Thank you again for putting my nerves at ease!

i figured out what the issue is - an app called Onavo has been changing the ringer profile to silent whenever mobile data is becoming active. uninstalled the app and it works like a charm.
good job
Its mostly caused by power savers. just uninstall apps you suspect one at a time
Hello Team ,
I am using one plus X phone . currently , my android phone version is 6.0.1 , Oxygen OS version 3.1.4 and kernel version us 3.4.0-perf-ge4f53e4.
I am facing the below problem :
My phone automatically went silent mode. i faced these type of problem since 1 week .
If any one face the same problem , please help me to solve the concern.
I am currently having this same issue with my U11. It`s very annoying when I miss calls and notifications!!!!!
My Verizon S4 is set to vibration mode (sound turned down/off)
In the options for gmail, facebook, and hangouts I have notifications turned on, but the vibration is off (unticked), BUT I still get vibrations when an incoming email, message, or notification comes along.
Anyone know how to override this issue? Are there external apps that can fix it? I only want my phone to vibrate when I get phone calls or text messages.
I have searched and found nothing.
Does no one else have this problem? It's driving me nuts!
I have the issue but mine only affects my enhanced Email app running Yahoo. Going to try uninstalling that and just use default email app, see if that helps.
Anybody find a solution to this yet????

I'm thinking that the sound/vibrate settings in Settings may be overriding this, but don't know why?

because you have it in vibration mode. all notifications are vibrate when in vibration mode, even when you have vibration turned off in the apps.

It never used to do this on the Galaxy S4, whoever finds a fix for this I will love forever!
This is not a bug but an annoying change Google made as of Android 4.2. Basically anything with a notification is supposed to vibrate when the phone is in vibrate mode regardless of the app setting although the app needs to support it. There is no fix but CM10.1 has the ability to revert this behavior.

Sorry for digging up this Thread, but this is not acceptable for me.
My S3 is always on Silent/Vibrate - Mode. In this case, Hangouts isn't usable for me. I have to disable all hangouts notificitaions, or my phone would vibrate almost all of the time.
So, is there any workaround available, so far?
I've allready tried to revoke permissions for vibration from hangouts and G+ via "App Settings" (Xposed module), but that didn't work. :/
Any solution would be great. Otherwise I have to go back to 4.1.2.
Best regards,
Marcus

You can try to manually turn off the vibration in the sound settings. settings<my device<sounds<vibration intensity
Change the slider of anyone of them that needs to be changed (from what I can tell you just want the notification vibration to be turned off so slide that one all the way to the left).
Let me know how this go.
Thx for your reply. But this will turn off Vibration for all notifications, won't it? I just want to turn it off for Hangouts because I receive lots of messages there and it's pretty annoying to have a phone on your pocket, that is vibrating all the time. I also have an app, that comes along with the OmegaROM, called "Notifications Mangaer" But changes there doesn't take effect. :/
Best regards,
Marcus

That is the only way I know, other than the notifications manager. I know what you means too, I also hate the annoying vibration all the time and it waste battery life. I got tired of looking for a way around it and just turned off the notification vibration.
Sad to hear... But I won't surrender. This is not acceptable for me. There must be a way to disable vibration on Hangouts even if enabled in system settings. I'll hang on it and let you know as soon as I found a solution . Thx, so far.
Best regards,
Marcus
I have the same problem so I just hav the notifications that I want to vibrate set to vibrate all the time and hangouts not to, then I put my volume at 1.

Thats not bad as an temporarily soliution. It hits me on an idea:
Lets perfection this and create a 1s long, silent track and set it as ringtone. That should work as well.
But even this cant be the final solution. There must be a way to prevent hangouts from vibrating, although global settings force vibration. It worked in the past as well, so why not on above 4.1.2 versions?
Same problem with S5 Mini
I got the same problem on m S5 Mini - it's driving me crazy! Why should I want apps to vibrate in vibration mode, when i don't want the to vibrate in general - when I turn off vibration in the app settings?!
I wake up every night because of notifications from facebook or emails..
I just want whatsapp and phone calls to vibrate!
I came from HTC devices (Desire, Sensation, Sensation XE) and never had this problem before.
It's also annoying that I can't change the notifications volume together with the ringtone volume, but have to seperately adjust the slider
Any solutions without root would be great
All,
My S4 non-rooted stock Mk2 has recently started playing the notification sound and vibration without there being an actual notification in the bar. No New e-mails or texts are coming in when this happens and nothing new in the apps being updated.
How can I track it down? It appears at random times not on any discernible pattern.
I'm pulling my hair out looking for what is causing this. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior? Is it app related? If so what app?
I have Facebook notifications turned off, and I've not installed any new apps around the time this behavior began.

I've never experienced that myself, but I'd probably start by assigning different apps to different notification colours. (assuming the issue also causes the notification light to turn on)
I think TouchWiz roms don't have that option, but an app or xposed module may be able to do it like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager
Depending on how many apps you have, you could start by e.g. assigning half to red and half to green. Then when it happens you'll know which half contains the app causing it. Then you can split that half in half again, etc...
