Odin does not install stock rom... - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Trying to go back to stock rom downloaded from Sammobile, but Odin gets stuck and says check partition. also would OEM unlock needs to be on in Developer mode? as this does not seem to turn on, get message saying phone will be erased...Would most appreciate procedure to return to stock.

Have you tried the patched version of ODIN? To go back to stock, you really should fully wipe the device or you risk running into a lot of issues with carrier settings, features, APN's, etc., not working.

Just to chime in about wiping. When I reverted back, and didn't manually wipe in recovery, I had no navigation bar. Even though Odin will wipe depending on which CSC you use, I'd still suggest a wipe.

I have had this issue yesterday, with 3-4 different ODIN versions. I got it to work using the ODIN version 3.13 from sammobile.

Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F)
Will it also work for Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F)??? or any other solution.

ODIN 3.13.1

[HELP]ODIN Stock Firmware Flash Issue. Virgin GT-I9300

I'm having real issues trying to get a stock ROM on my Virgin Mobile S3 (GT-I9300) and I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've looked absolutely everywhere for a solution but so far nothing has worked.
OK so a little history about the problem:
Using phone as normal, and then randomly turns off. Turn it back on and I get the two Samsung splash screens loop booting constantly. I boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset - same problem. Clear the cache - same problem. Send phone back to Virgin and they tell me I've rooted and installed a custom ROM which I absolutely have not but they have a screenshot with the custom counter showing '1'.
I've no idea how this is possible, but I would have remembered if I'd installed a custom ROM. Anyway, they send it back because I'm not going to fork out £100 for them to flash it.
So...lots of research later, I download the latest Odin (3.09), find the most likely stock ROM that will work with my phone (Carrier is Virgin Mobile UK). I find this ROM on SamMobile: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU. Cannot for the life of me find an actual Virgin rom so this apparently should be fine as it's a generic EU build.
Fine, so I apply it using the AP selection in Odin, connect phone, it goes through and applies fine "PASS" etc.. and phone reboots automatically.
Now, it just sits at the Samsung splash screen (the static white text) and doesn't go any further. I've left it upwards of 10 minutes but no dice. So look online and find threads that suggest booting to recovery and doing a factory reset will do the trick. So try that (Power+volume up+home) and same problem - static splash screen. Balls.
So now I don't know what to do. I either need to try an actual Virgin ROM which doesn't seem to exist(?!) or my phone is truely bricked and I'll finally have a good reason to destroy the thing.
Can anyone let me know what the next steps should be? I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I found the s3 to be a pain when doing a reset. Basically do it twice. Wipe, flash, wipe then boot. As far as I know btu is correct but virmin mobile used to rent their airspace from tmobile who are now half ee. Such a minefield..

When you say 'wipe' do you mean factory reset via recovery mode? Because I'm not able to access that. All I can get to is Download Manager to use with Odin...
I thought you said you could access recovery and you had cleared cache. In that case you are buggered. If it goes through the flashing phase and reboots but you still cannot get into recovery then you have 3 options..
1. Flash another rom but no lower than 4.3. Carrier shouldn't matter.
2. Full on flash with pit file (dangerous and can perma brick).
3. Return the phone under warranty and state that the flash counter also clocks official flashes too, samsung should know this as they make the phone.. staff need training if they say otherwise.

Try the rescue firmware from general forum, follow the instructions exactly as it includes a pit.
It sounds like nand failure, so it's possible that you won't be able to fix it.

Apologies for not being clearer, before sending it back to Virgin for the warranty repair I could access the recovery mode fine, when I got it back I couldn't - whether that was caused by the flashing of the firmware or something Virgin did I don't know unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip - I've flashed the stock recovery and I can now get into recovery mode! Looks slightly different but I can now access the factory reset/wipe cache options so that's some improvement.
I'm just downloading the stock international ROM as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847 but it's going to take a few hours. Thanks so much for your advice so far i'll report back once the download completes.
No joy
I can however get into download mode and recovery mode now. Is there anything else I can try? Is it possible I can get a custom recovery image on there and flash it with something other than the stock rom?
I've got a feeling you're correct and it could be a hardware fault. Virgin say I can pay £100 to get it fixed, if they have to replace the entire phone that would prove it wasn't 'tampering' that caused it so I could potentially get my money back I guess, if I complained. I think that might be my only option now.
Ok I just booted into recovery mode and I was greeted with this error:
Any ideas what this could mean?

I say this to people who have this sort of problem but I mention the dreaded word and they tend to ignore it but will tell you what to try anyway.
Install Kies 3 for android 4.3 (there I said it Kies) on the top menu bar click Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the on screen instructions, this process will wipe the phone and install the most up to date original carrier / phone firmware, after this the phone should work and you can then root, flash roms etc , it may work for you so try it, don't just dismiss it because it refers to the use of Kies

Make sure you are using the USB cable supplied with the phone and it is connected direct to your PC USB port, ideally the ones on the back but don't connect through any multi USB port connectors.
The USB cables and how you connect can make a difference

So, I've now been 3 days without a phone because what started as a status 7 error, turned into NOTHING working except my download and recovery modes. I can't flash roms, I get every error known to man about bootloaders, kernel junk. All I want is a stock phone that works!!! What do I need to download to flash with odin?? Im pretty sure I'm going to need everything. Could you provide download links??

[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered

So, this all started last year when i wanted to disable updates. For the life of me, i cant remember what i did but there have been no updates. Recently, I have been getting the OTA notification to update. So i did that and when it installs it gives an error at 26%. My phone is rooted and has USB debugging on so i put it in download mode and tried to use ODIN to update it with both the stock firmware and KitKat. they both failed. Today, I tried to do it again but added the file to BL instead of AP in ODIN. Now my phone gives the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen. I tried to use Kies to fix it but it doesnt connect when this screen is up. When i restart the phone in download mode, then my computer detects the device.
I have a ATT gs4 model SGH-I337
Please HELP!

flash a stock rom and then fastboot flash your stock recovery, then update your phone the update should be triggered in the stock recovery, with a custom recovery, it won't work
the only other easy way around this besides doing what I said is to look for a firmware thread for your device and flash the firmware as a op who has tested it states.

So i did that but still got an error. I think that one of the reasons why it was messing up before is an issue with Kies blocking the port from opening. So i closed that out per the below thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622790
But it started and the status bar on my phone is now blue (which is what how this bigger issue started before) I found this other link that kind of fits whats going on. Should i just follow the PIT instructions from here and of course just restart my phone again?

Im pretty sure i was at 4.3. So everything was working and then i found a random article saying that with the ALL_ATT_I337UCUFNB1_I337ATTFNB1_505595_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 update, you have to put in the PIT file again. So i did that and now my phone turns on and says custom, but then shuts off. I can go into download mode and recovery. I tried to factory reset everything but to no avail.

Hmm, the pit might be why you're having issues. Most updates don't need the separate pit file. If it's needed, it's often packaged in the main tar file. I would just redo the Odin flash without pit and factory reset afterwards.

What a pickle

Was running Hyperdrive 21. I switched to Straight Talk and my data connection was getting dropped about every few days. So I decided to wipe and update to Lollipop. Wiped, and used Odin upgrade. Worked great. In my infinite wisdom I wanted to go back. So downloaded a 4.4 tar and flashed it with Odin. Could not root. So wiped and TRIED to flash back to Lollipop. now I am getting failed when I try to flash with Odin 3.09.
If I try to go to other menu. It says software updated failed.

Yeah, you cannot go back from OC1 to previous(as you know now).
Best bet is to get a FULL STOCK tar with PIT.... @muniz_ri has one somewhere I think.

Got the phone up and running. To be honest I did not do anything to it just let it set. It is running lollipop now BUT when it boots I still have the Samsung logo with the unlock picture. So i don't think it is loading correctly.

Yep. You'll have the Custom/unlock icon unless it's completely bone stock factory image now. (you can install Xposed now and Wanam and fake system status though)

What I, and many others have done is go ahead with Kingroot, (reboot, verify root) and then download Super-sume app from the Play store. The Super-sume app will replace all of Kingroot with normal SuperSu.

What exactly do you mean when you say you can't roll back after taking PJ2? Do you mean that I wouldnt be able to flash earlier versions with odin, even if i wipe the phone?

PJ2 uses Bootloader 4 so you can only flash firmware that uses that Bootloader. Like the Latest Version of the G930U can be flashed.
So you wouldn't be able to flash earlier ones correct even if you wipe

I can confirm this, I was stock and took the pj2 update. Decided to tinker with an eng boot loader and it went south. Wasn't able to odin and previous versions and ended up going to sprint for them to flash pj2. Now we have pj2 to download ( thanks @colin0998 ) so, onward with more tinkering.

Has this rom been rooted and if so, where?
Thank you.
I needed this badly. I had rooted my s7 with the engineering boot loader and it decided that it would not participate in the carrier network AND reboot at will. Then it decided to spin on the LTE Full Speed splash screen until the battery drained. I did have root over adb and it did work, but something went sideways. I will skin this cat but the day is not today.
One thing to note: The Odin supplied in the download link did not work for me. It would start and then exit very quickly with some unidentified unicode dialog box. I had to go and find another copy of Odin 3.12 from elsewhere which did work.
I'm back to stock and everything is more or less calm with the exception of the sprint and samsung bloatware. I mean, seriously, why are one or more shopping apps in the priv-app install anyway?
:good:
Has anyone been able to root this firmware yet?

You probably lost your unlock during all of that. This has happened to me before. I had an unlock done on 930P then went to 930U and the unlock was still there. But once i went back to 930P I had lost the unlock so had to have it done again.
You might be in the same situation where after all of those flashes back and forth it became locked again. Suggestion is to install 930P PJ2, root it, then use an unlock service. Once done it will be unlocked. You can install 930U if you want afterwards if you do not want the Sprint bloat.
