Charger/3.5mm adapter - Huawei MediaPad M5 Accessories

Has anyone been able to find an adapter that works with this tablet for charging and listening to music at the same time?

Interested in this as well. Were you able to find anything yet?

I too am interested. I see a bunch on Amazon but they all look cheap. Does anyone know of a high end micro usb-c to 3.5mm+usb-c charging?
I tried a non-charging adapter for the Moto Z2 force I had laying around and it works fine. However I still want to charge.

The following one from amazon, works fine on my mediapad M5.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BTX2DX7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Edit: Only one of the two adapters works and that one only with the original Huawei charger. It did not work when I used USB C chargers, unlike the Huawei USB A one. I have a different charger on the way and will post if it works.

This one works on type C chargers, but I'm discovering they all have an audio hum when plugged into power. Also be prepared for long ship times from Walmart.

It's a bit pricey @ $25 but this is what I've been using for the last couple weeks:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCZY1ZB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The build quality, specifically the outer shell, is excellent and the additional DAC makes for crisp sound output.

I've been playing with mine the last two days and would have to agree on the sound quality. I'm not getting the audio hum, I was getting with the cheaper ones, when plugged into power. Good find.

This one works fine, and you can charge at the same time, but it disables quick-charge (must only connect the + and - connections and not the ones used for data).

Here is a link from my previous order in France. Works perfectly well

MHL Adapter Question

When using the MHL adapter, is the whole screen mirrored or is it just some apps like gallery/youtube?
Also, does Cyanogenmod (AOSP) work with it?

It is full mirroring of the whole screen great huh? I found that out here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXotbjcB6xA
And as far as I know Cyanogenmod does not have it yet but i'm really sure it will soon.
Yup, it does full mirroring, so you can play games as well
The bad part is that i got the ikross mhl adapter and it seems to be defective or smth, cause it keeps disconnecting for no apparent reason (even if i don't touch it).
My question is which mhl adapter is worth buying? I'd really like one i could use while moving the phone. Should i just go with the original one from htc? but that's a bit expensive. Any suggestions?
I have the T-Mobile brand and have no issues with it. It's been carried around in my laptop bag for a while, still works perfect. $20 from the store and around $27 shipped if you order from their site

Which adapter charges as well?
All of them should, that's their design. Mhl plugs in to the phone, charger and hdmi plug in to the mhl. I know that atleast the T-Mobile version does, all should though. It mirrors everything, and charges my phone just fine at the same time.

Got my MHL for $15.73 shipped from Monoprice. Been using it everyday since the day I got it to stream netflix and other TV/movie sites from my 3D or off one of the flyers in my house. It's probably been in use for 60+ days straight for about 5-6 hours each day, maybe more... I don't have cable or satellite I'm actually thinking of ordering another one maybe two just in case this one breaks or gets lost.
The monoprice adapter works very well. I've had no connection problems - and I get a great picture depending on the app. Diceplayer works particularly well for putting out HD video.
The only possible drawback is that the monoprice adapter limits you to USB charging, not AC charging - when you use it. So if you're streaming while outputting to the TV, you'll still lose a small amount of phone battery.
On another thread specifically on the MHL adapter charging topic - no one confirmed whether the other chargers were registering AC charging or not. That might be the one advantage in getting another brand.

Thanks - please do. People in the other thread assumed their phone was charging whether streaming or not - but couldn't confirm with testing values. I thought my phone was charging as well - until I installed a battery monitor and checked. After using many - Battery Monitor Widget appears to work the best on our phone.
If you could test your MHL adapter while streaming, and report back the charging rate reported - that would be a great help. Please report what radios you have on, I usually leave all of them on for testing purposes.
I'm very interested to see if any of these MHL adapters will charge while streaming, as well. I plan on this being my next accessory for the 3D but I don't want to get one that charges with half power.
Forgot to test out the other night. I'll try an get to it tonight before going to bed. Oh, I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro. Saw some one mentioning that app earlier, so you'll be able to relate fully. For radios, Wifi and Mobile Network are never turned off on my phone. That's how I'll be testing as I never have Bluetooth on when steaming movies, and only have GPS on when I'm using Navigation or an app that needs GPS. Obviously won't need GPS to stream a movie in my house...

got Monoprice MHL to charge last night while streaming
Took quite a bit of tinkering, but finally got positive charging (albeit not much) while streaming Battle of Midway from Netflix and the Wire from HBO GO last night. Using WTSB 1.9 rom and Monoprice MHL adapter.
What I had to do was:
-Airplane Mode;
-Turn on Wifi;
-Turn off account sync;
-Taskmanager to kill off everything but netflix;
-Use SetCPU to underclock to (648ishMHZ for netflix) or (900ishMHZ for HBO GO);
-Covedesign app to turn off button backlights;
-Covedesign app to go to backlight "blink" and disabled blink (like jumping rope) just at the right time for the backlight to stay off (may have to do this several times)(though this makes it damn hard to interact with phone unless you have bt mouse or keyboard - if not, may just want to turn brightness down as far as you can get);
My setup:
Evo3d streaming via wifi from iSpot 4G Clear device, outputting via MHL to optoma pk201 pico projector, with stock charger+usb, and audio via MHL/HDMI to pico projector.
Comment:
Netflix ROCKS (wonder why no stock landscape UI though)!!! Great streaming, no hiccups; HBO GO, on the other hand, (while AMAZING selection) constantly drops out to "Audio only stream, connect to stronger network or wifi for video", stutters, ... all kinds of crap and this is on a pretty regular 6mbps 4G Clear iSpot!

BTW, anyone know of an app that lets you monitor your total mA usage live?
like a graphing app or anything?
There used to be a great one for WM6 that showed, for example 400milliamps with screen on, and 200milliamps with screen off and graphed it over time.
I keep getting pissed off with these phones; can anyone help me (I've been searching for years and can't find answers) mind you, I'm coming from the x51v wm6.5.3; PalmTX; Sammy Omnia...
-Why can't we turn off the backlight to the screen?
-Why can't we MANUALLY rotate to landscape or portrait? (I know you can manually engage or disengage the AUTOmatic rotation feature)
-(maybe this does exist) Why can't we get readings on how many mA we are using?
It just seems like the x51v from 2002 was so much more advanced and customizable, seems like we are re-creating the wheel over and over again.
Sorry for the rant.
Battery Monitor Widget, as mentioned in the post previous to yours...

MHL Adapters are required to charge while being used, in fact, they only function if the charger is plugged in. That's part the spec, and I'd like to think I know quite a bit about MHL since I've done work and testing on the product for the company that created it, which is Silicon Image : http://www.siliconimage.com/products/family.aspx?id=10 . As for the quoted person, the adapter is not supposed to the the problem (unless you're getting a cheap knockoff one) but the power output of your charger can be an issue as well. The original Evo 3D charger outputs the proper power for the adapter to charge your phone properly. If you're using a cheap generic brand eBay MicroSD power cord, it will most likely not charge at the same output.
I've been using and testing these adapters before you ever knew about them. Is that enough information for you?
Went to a friends after work an just got home a little while ago. Battery is at 15% so instead of putting in a freshly charged battery, I'm going to test my T-Mobile MHL Adaptor for those interested. Hope to post results tonight, definitely going to test tonight though even if results aren't posted until the morning.

@LiquidSolstice What the heck's a "cheap generic brand eBay MicroSD power cord"? Did you mean microUSB? So much for your expertise... Dunno what you're going on about, but the MHL adapters could very well affect the current fed to the phone since it's literally going THRU them. Have you tested every single MHL adapter? Even if there's a spec they should conform to, it doesn't mean they all do, just like all chargers out there are not 1A chargers with properly shorted pins to deliver 1A.
The concerns you quoted and dismissed were valid, no need for that attitude. The USB cable used shouldn't really matter in the vast majority of cases, resistances introduced by even the thinnest retractable cables are pretty much negligible... I've actually tested that too. It really comes down to the charger, and possibly the MHL adapter that's in between. If mike hasn't posted his results with the T-Mo adapter tomorrow I'll test mine as I have the same one. Can't speak for the MP adapter as I don't have it, MP usually sells quality cables & adapters tho.

So much for my expertise? Tell you what. Remove the MHL adapter out of the question. Try to charge the phone using a Samsung Moment power cord. It's all MicroUSB as you say.
It won't properly charge. Just because a power cord has a plug on one end a MicroUSB on another doesn't mean they're all equal. The point that I'm responding to is that unless you're buying a knockoff MHL adapter (or a really, really cheap one) the spec specifies that they all charge from both USB and AC, and that there is enough power to properly charge the device.

MHL adapter from monoprice!

Hey guys I found this mhl adapter on monoprice and it's $10.20. By far one of the cheapest out there. Also monoprice has great build quality on their products! Here's the product link http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8805&seq=1&format=2, and here's their video on it! They use it on our evo 3d's! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=P5tJl_a_wcc
Yep - that's already been discussed many times under the MHL adapter threads. There have been many reviews about that particular adapter - including mine.
Honestly - I have no complaints about my MHL adapter.

Really!? I've never seen it haha thanks! Do you like it?
I do - it works well. You just have to make sure you're using the right app - beause they don't all look equally as sharp.
For example - Diceplayer looks better when playing video than the stock gallery app in my opinion.
All that said, I just decided to order this adapter since it was so cheap:

I bought it when it went on sale a couple weeks ago for something like 9 bucks shipped. I wouldn't recommend it. The battery drains even when plugged in (which has to be plugged in to work). If you read the reviews monoprice actually responded that it only can input of 500mA which is only half of what the stock charger puts out but standard for USB ports on a PC. Don't know if its an MHL flaw or a monoprice adapter flaw but a 720p movie with the phone in airplane mode still managed to drain the battery in under 2 hours. You also can't manually change resolution although that's a limitation on the phone. This really isn't a problem as it defaults to 720p for most TVs but I did have it go to a really low resolution in a monitor.
Don't blame the monoprice adapter, that's a weakness with all mhl adapters. There was a guy who claimed his was charging, but checking the system settings showed he was limited to USB charging and not AC.
The key is not having other apps running or services you don't need. On an airplane, you should have gotten a much better discharge rate! The last time I used mine at a friends house to watch a 720p MKV, I had over 90% of my battery left. I figured I could have watched over 10 hours of video. If you're streaming, you will burn more battery obviously.

That's crazy ill have to try with a clean install. Also wish I could turnoff the backlight wwithout turning off the LCD. That would save some power. I though it might have been an MHL limitation but I have seen 1amp MHL adapters. That could just be the reseller making up specs they don't know. Really huge design flaw in my og Evo I could stream any content and it would still charge even with Bluetooth enabled. Shame you have to cripple the phone so much so it doesn't die on you.

Yeah, buy you had two connections into your phone with the OG Evo. The MHL adaptor will eventually (when tv's come with it) only need the HDMI cable and hopefully charge more than the USB does.

Didn't think they would.wrap it into a TV but if 500mA is an MHL limitation then it really wouldn't make a difference since the stock charger already outputs more than that and what the adaptot itself consumes.
Nice find! I was looking on Amazon for an MHL adapter, but glad I checked here before purchasing one.

Can you point me to any 1 AMP advertised MHL adapters?
Even if they work for other phones, this phone's funny. I have quite a few 2.1A chargers, both car and AC - and not all of them charge beyond USB charging rate. It seems one or two of the micro usb pins need to be shorted to charge our phone at a rate higher than 0.5A.

I just got this EBAY adapter - and I haven't had a chance to fully test it. It wouldn't work for HDMI out - so I thought it was defective, but I realized I haven't used MHL since I rooted my phone (olympus rom). I used my monoprice adapter and also wasn't able to get it to work, though it ran very well when the phone was stock. So I'll wait to review until I flash a new rom that actally lets me use the MHL adapter properly.
One thing that shows promise is that when I charge through the EBAY $6 MHL adapter, it shows up as AC charging on my phone. The monoprice shows up as USB charging. I've also confirmed that it definitely charges faster.
I'll still have to test whether or not it actually works - and if it'll actually charge faster IN USE. I'll let you guys know. If it does work and charge faster than the mono price adapter, I'll post here and start a new thread. Otherwise, I'll report back and apologize.
I updated to a kernel which allowed HDMI out and tested the new HDMI adapter. Visually, back to back with the monoprice adapter - the EBAY $6 adapter worked just as good. That is to say that the picture looked idetically sharp.
I then played a 42 minute 720P MKV through diceplayer - and my phone's charge increased from 66% to 70%. It's the first time I've seen that with an MHL adapter.
With this new kernel (Anthrax R13) - this MHL adapter now shows charging my phone as being via USB instead of AC. But next, I plan to play an identical video with the monoprice adapter - to see if my charge level increases or drains in use.
I'll start a new thread when I have the results, but regardless, at $6 - this EBAY cheapie has to be the best value yet.
Are there any other kernel/rom options that would support hdmi out to tv? Thanks
One thing you might want to consider if using this with the HTC dock, is that the Monoprice adapter won't fit well. You have to force the micro usb in. To use it in the dock, you need a micro usb adapter that has the micro end with a less bulky plastic enclosure. The curved side of the tip needs to be closer to the plastic edge. The adapter I got from eBay fits better, without forcing or bending. You could also try carving away excess material.

I'm looking to get a slimport adapter to connect to a TV via HDMI. Has anyone had good luck with one? I've been looking for an "official" one and not a knockoff but can't seem to find it. I don't want to have to buy a bunch of them to get one that works. Thanks in advance.

You can find the genuine, official SlimPort-branded one on Amazon here. It's a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion. I bought mine last month and it works great without any issues.
As long as you buy from the Demandport seller, you're guaranteed to get a legitimate one since that's SlimPort's official reseller.
A little off-topic, but just a heads-up since I've got this adapter: at least in my experience, the convenient integrated charging port doesn't seem to charge the G3 as quickly as it uses power (when it's actively mirroring your screen), even on a higher-amp wall wart. It's possible it might be an issue with my cable or something, but I can't be sure. Not really too much of a problem for most people, but worth mentioning.
Also, YMMV when it comes to using it on 720p TVs. It works totally fine with the ones I've tested, but as the Amazon description states, it's only really guaranteed to work on 1080p.

Well with mine i have a 2 amp charger it could be the adapter that does not output 2 amps
so I bought this slimport adapter which works.

now If I remember correctly some adapters which were compatible with older phones had lower refresh rates. although they still work on lg g3 you phone is capable of higher refresh rates. If it meets your needs, I would suggest using an amazon firetv stick. This device is miracast compatible which uses wifi-direct for wireless connectivity and the phone in your hand rather than attached to the TV. just saying.

USB C type adapter cable that allows charge the phone and listen to music at once?

I was looking for the type of cable that allow to charge and use cable headphones( C type) . There are solutions for Iphone 7 but I have not come across any for Android. What's the situation in regards HTC U11?
I did the same search for about an hour one night, I didn't find anything either. I expected many options out of China. I was a bit surprised. Maybe the plug cannot put out and accept power at the same time on Android?
I seen a thread last night that someone bought something like https://www.amazon.com/Goliton-Fema...qid=1496202880&sr=8-44&keywords=usb+c+adapter and https://www.amazon.com/multiport-US...qid=1496203314&sr=8-14&keywords=USB-c+PD+Port

I found this where the blogger talks a out possible schematics for usb c that enables both charge and music listening at the same time. Article is written in 2016.
Because I saw such adapters for iphone 7 maybe apple worked it out how to do it on lighting cable. Anyway here is a link : http://pocketnow.com/2016/09/08/the-impending-horror-of-usb-type-c-audio-adapters
I read something about type C that claims that splitting the port for simultaneous use and charging may be technically challenging for some reason. I tried looking for that article, but couldn't find it again. Regardless, if I need to charge while listening to my earphones, I temporarily use Bluetooth and one of these adapters: (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MJMV0GU/ref=psdcmw_1293687011_t1_B01NCSFAAO)
to continue using my normal earphones until my phone fully charges. I really like my normal earphones and don't want to use Bluetooth ones, so I use this adapter till the phone's charged.
@itiskonrad
Isn't that a rushed decision by android manufacturers to replace 3.5 jack without exploring give situation ?! I have already two decent pair of earbuds and will have the third bundled with handset.
Did you buy that Bluetooth adaptor and using by any chance? If so are you fully satisfied?

It is a rushed decision. What I'm curious about is if they used the anonymous usage data to make this decision. If so, it's possible that people who used both the headphone jack and charged their phone at the same time under-represented themselves by opting out of anonymous usage data.
Companies like Samsung and LG are "throw as many features into the phone as possible!" companies; making them more likely to be the last major manufacturers to get rid of the headphone jack.
3.5 jack on phones is dying off just like removable batteries. It's that simple.
You get a free included adaptor - so this is really not an issue as I see it.

Could be they used wrong audience for that purpose. For instance apple by getting rid of 3.5 jack and patenting lighting port makes a lot of money. And that makes a sense because every company that wants to make lighting cable they pay apple. I don't know what is the situation with 3.5 jack and USB C type but that could also be related to Bluetooth earbuds/head[hone market. Just guessing.
I use my G5 connected to USB Type C for charging, while also using the 3.5mm headset jack connected to the car's AUX Audio input for playing Music, Navigation, Waze. I was hoping there would be an adapter somewhere (for phones like the U11) that would allow it to charge while also being able to connect to 3.5mm audio.
Hi got redirected here by @Lock and Load. Seems it is possible to do manual cable, but have to use data + - for charging (from what i read). That means 500mA charging only. I will try a cable when i get some time. Can a usb-c hub be used? Has anyone tried? Would save a lot of messing around.

Investigated the same option you did. And mailed some sellers about it.
The Y+cables won't charge your phone, only the peripheral which you plugged in the other USB Port. And a power bank or. Charger in the other port.
As for this part for instance,
Wavlink USB 3.1 Type C 4 Ports Hub Adapter High Speed 5Gbps Aluminum Multiple USB-C HUB For Windows Mac OS Android 5.0 later

(from AliExpress Android)
I got the answer it won't charge either.
What i did for now, i ordered a quick charge 3.0 powerbank. So when you are out. It charges quickly to listen further.

Would that charge as fast as the charger provided by HTC?

Nice! I am still keen to buy Bluetooth earbuds at some point but that power bank is a must buy. Do you have case?

What do you mean with case? Case for U11?
Hmzzz Bluetooth earbuds. If you appreciate good sound quality, don't do that. If you still want to... Choose a Senheisser or Bose... And they don't come really cheap.
But that's up to you.

Yes protective case.
BT earbuds I would most likely use for audio books and other content but the music. I do get your point though.

How about that one? Seems like a simple solution for the Moto Z and maybe for the HTC U11?

USB-C - 3.5mm headphone adapter

Hi guys,
I've got to work today and found I've not brought my bundled USB-C - 3.5mm Headphone adapter with me. I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to get a spare or two.
Looking around it seems that not all types are compatible with all phones.
Can anyone confirm if an adapter compatible with other Huawei phones e.g. P20 will work with Mediapad M5?
I'm thinking of something like:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Headphone-Adapter-TriLink-Huawei-Black/dp/B077FJKZMM/
Thanks for any advice!
The one I bought for my M5 8.4 was https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-C-Ty...cd803a66b:m:mTROBXmtYcyehHK4G3vWF6A:rk:1:pf:0
Only used it a couple of times, but seems solid enough.

This works great if you're wanting something that sounds a bit better than stock.
Pixel 2XL USB C to 3.5mm Audio Adapter,Hi-Res DAC Chip Headphone Jack CONMDEX Type C to 3.5 Converter Compatible Google Pixel 2 Pixel 2 XL HTC U11 Essential PH-1 Phone Razer Phone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DXP213B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KywBCb00FQQAK
This one works fine, and you can charge at the same time, but it disables quick-charge (must only connect the + and - connections and not the ones used for data).
The M5 supports analog audio directly out of the USB C port, that is how the bundled USBC-3.5mm adapter works. I found that my bundled adapter makes clicking sounds if the usb connector wiggles at all.
I bought 3 of these adapters (only $1 each so I bought 3 incase any were duds) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07KT2F7K7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
It works like the bundled adapter, it doesn't need a DAC chip as it takes the analog audio directly from the usbc port. It doesn't click like the huawei adapter, sound is excellent. 1 of 3 the connector case on the usb-c end slides off as if its not glued properly, the other 2 of 3 are perfect.
I also bought digital adapter with a built-in DAC chip, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07MX553YX/ref=twister_B07KSSXZ8Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It works fine, sound is excellent, it drains the battery a bit faster however so I choose to use the analog adapter.
Here is a link from my previous order in France. Works perfectly well
