[Q] Can I use my phone sim (TMO) in a Gear S? - Samsung Gear S

I'm going to start running and I don't want to carry my phone around. I am looking into buying a used Samsung Gear S for my runs (answer calls if/when needed & play music).
I searched but I couldn't get a straight answer.
Can I use my current sim card (nano) to the Gear S when needed? Will TMO locked my sim out if noticed?
I don't plan to use the watch other than when I don't want to carry my phone (running or other sport activity).
Thanks in advance

Anyone know the answer? I also heard that it is best to buy an unlocked (AT&T) Samsung Gear S.
Any information is appreciated.

Work with no Sim card?

Can the Gear S be used via Bluetooth with a phone for just notifications and other things but Not phone calling? Just wanted to find out if I buy a watch outright without a Sim or contract can I still use the watch some daily stuff. Or is it absolutely a must to have a sim?
Yes it can be used without a SIM. As a matter of fact, mobile data and calling is turned off most of the time - when it is connected to the companion phone.

You don't need a sim. I bought an att gear s on ebay and have it connected just via Bluetooth to my phone. You get all your notifications, calls, and I can even use opera browser on my gear.

Another question if I may. I have a Tmobile S5 with AT&T sim card. Is there a difference between which model Gear S watch I would want to buy? In order to pair correctly etc? Would I buy AT&T or a Tmobile one? Are they the same? (guess that was several questions, lol)
Thanks!

The choice is your you can buy whatever you'd like but people have reported problems with the AT&T Gear S if I were you I'd go for T-mo you could always unlock it later on for either carrier as these are the only ones with sim cards. So the real question is which color do you want white is exclusive to AT&T also sold at BestBuy. Everything will work fine. I have a sim card and I forget it is there because I don't use it much just a backup phone I suppose

[Q] Can I use the Gear S like a regular Smartwatch? W/O data plan?

Hello,
I do like the Gear S and wanna buy the ATT version on unlocked version.
But I don't want a data plan on it, I want it connected to my phone just like a Gear 2 or Android Wear watch via Bluetooth.
Can I just do that and have the messages and phone calls forwarded to the watch?

Yep. Works perfectly well without a SIM card.

like stated by vasko, I also went with att since ti was the lowest and 99.5% it is connected via bt to my sprint note2, so there was no need to buy the other gear s which are more expensive. I just recent got a h2o sim which work off att network just for emergencies when I am out of sprint range I have att coverage which we all know is much much better then sprint....

[Q] About to buy! Final questions!

So I am about to pull the trigger on. Gears S, but have some last questions. My use is pretty specific. I travel internationally 90 percent of the time. I have two phones. A local phone which is my primary, and then a U.S. number on AT&T which is for family. I am planning to put the AT&T sim in the gear S.
I need the Gear S to do phone calls, text, and stand alone navigation. I don't really NEED anything else. It would be nice to have Instagram, and Facebook. That's all I need from the device.
My last questions are, one to confirm that the above needs are all possible 100% standalone? And two to confirm there is a way to turn off roaming data on the watch? Or turn off cell data while leave calls and text active?

Gear S works a standalone device. The european models can take any nano SIM card. You can turn data off, while keeping GSM on. That means that calls and SMS still come through.
There is a (not official) client for instagram which is quite good and the same dev is working on a FB client.
If you bought a US version (or anything made for North America) of Gear S, it won't work elsewhere and vice versa. Gear S is not for international travelers. Period.
On top of that, there is no standard alone navigation apps for Gear S.

Even if the US version is unlocked? Also isn't Nokia's Here a stand alone navigation app for the Gear S?
It is not about unlocked or not. North American version only supports NA bands and international version only supports international bands. The two don't overlap. Gear S is not a quad band phone.
Nokia Here maps can't navigate without the phone tethered via bluetooth.

Gears S on Straight Talk What sim do i need to get?

Hello All,
Ive been on this site for some and just got a new gear s. So here is what im working with:
ATT Note 4 with Straight Talk Sim
I originally had a rooted Gear 720 set up on the note 4.
Now I see that the Gears S is a bit different. I see that you still have all the Blue Tooth and Notifications options as the one before but to actually make and recieve them the device requires a SIM.
So the question is what SIM? I assume Straight Talk but just want to make sure. Since this is a newer Gear it looks good but my other one had no issues getting calls in or placing them.
Thanks for the help

swapping antennas

Hi, I have an unlocked At&T galaxy s6 edge plus that I am trying to use on Verizon. After some trial and error it seems that the At&T phone only recognizes some frequencies that Verizon is using making it impossible to call and only be able to use text and data. Has anyone every swapped out the Antenna for a Verizon one onto a AT&T phone? I repair phones quite often so this will not be difficult for me. Just wondering if it should work in theory so i can make calls and use the phone as usual.
